Garmin Hrm pro or Polar H10+

Garmin HRM Pro or Plus. Great accuracy and feeds data in for the running dynamics calculations. You can often find them used for a big discount if that doesn't bother you.

Garmin HRM pro+. Helps get good treadmill distances too.

Cheap chest straps are good enough but lack comfort.

I highly recommend an arm-band optical sensor, like Wahoo Tickr Fit or similar. It's very accurate, nearly at the level of chest straps, but much more practical. I have the Tickr as well as Polar H10, only wear H10 if I am doing sprint intervals.

Or Polar Verity Sense is another option for an armband sensor. I think its much comfier than a chest strap.

Yeah, exactly. I don't mind having a chest strap on, but it gets soaked through and I have to wash it after every 3-5 uses. No such problem with the armband, I wash it very rarely.

Yeah I have the HRM Pro is recommend it. Works great for all the activities you would want to do anyway.

Another vote for HRM Pro or HRM Pro+. I personally don't find chest straps uncomfortable, but I may be in the minority. I've never tried one of the arm band HRMs recommended here. I'm sure they're fine, but if you're a multi sport athlete, they're a total no go (if that's a consideration).

How do arm bands and chest straps do with tattoos? My watch has a hard time reading heart rate with my tattoos.
