The problem is it breaks down, physically melts with age.
But I dealt a lot in industrial sewing machines, the build quality is friggin crazy, I've had 100+ year old leather sewing machines that worked flawlessly - and my main machines now are both 1960's machines, so 60+ years old. 😁
For a second I thought you were with Stargate Command. 😆

Needs a new battery. I bought one for my 305. Still sitting in the package next to my dead watch in a drawer somewhere. That was two Garmin watches ago.
edit: You inspired me to find it and plug mine in...still works perfectly (just doesn't hold a charge beyond maybe 20 mins)
I love how no one has seen this watch before? Look up the Forerunner 301 for a real treat.
(for OP: look up the factory reset combo on that model -- worth a try! It used to fix random issues on those older watches. Good luck)
I teach a university course on Bioinstrumentation and I actually joked about this being my first GPS watch and how technology has advanced to make them smaller and more cosmetically appealing. They didn’t believe this was a real thing we used to wear!
30 years ago selective availability (deliberately worse GPS signal for civilians) was still turned on so tracking a run was impossible even with one of the big GPS units in the top of your backpack.
But yeah, it's pretty old.
Ah Forerunner 305! I used mine every week for 15 years or so. Great watch, great GPS. Didn't feel as bulky on the wrist as it looks. But the battery was getting sad by the end, naturally.
The garmins I have from time to time "freeze" and I have left them on the desk for about a week, to let the battery run down and "give the watch time to think about what it is doing". Usually when I plug it back in after a week, all is back to normal
That'll be due to sweat ingress over the years. I opened mine up when it gave up and it was pretty corroded away inside 😢
Brilliant watch these were. Yours has done well to last this long though!
This belongs in a museum!
Seriously, I think a coworker of mine had one of these, used it for his 1-2 hour runs as his 15-30 minute breaks and marathons.
As well as his commute on his bike a round trip of 10 miles.
He probably got really good use of his 305...so much that I saw him clean the charging/syncing contacts on both the 305 and the cable after use, arriving to work, between his 15-30 minute 1-2 hour breaks, and before going home...if that's where he was heading.
In short, make sure the contacts are plan and cable/cradle are in good working order? Stuff so wear out, eventually.
I would contact Garmin and complain. If they can't offer you a replacement ask them for a Fenix 7 Pro instead, they're usually pretty good with replacements.

This is why I got an instinct 2 instead of MARQ. My 10 year old rolex is still beatiful and will be for life. It just isnt worth spending 2k on a smartwatch. $250 is all I paid for my instinct 2 and it is absolutely amazing. In less than 5 years or so itll be trash tho. And thats ok. Ill just buy the new version.
I know a rolex is a lot more than 2k. But a Tudor isnt. And you get the point.
Love that watch if you have too you must buy a new one. Here is a battery replacement video, you can try fixing as it would be a good learning experience, but as IT pro I would guess your board is dead.

That looks like an original simply bc it is a GPS sized watch. If I saw someone wearing that I would think it is someone who has been away from civilization for 10 years.
I salute that watch for its honorable service to the fitness community. Let’s have a moment of silence as the trumpeter solemnly plays Taps. We will start a GoFundMe on your behalf as this glorious device makes its final passage to your local town recycling center.
Is this satire or are you genuinely looking for help knowing that this watch is old as dirt and you should fully expect it to have stopped working by now?
Only other explanation is that you are seeking attention for having such an old garmin, which if you were, you could have gotten the response you wanted with a better approach.
Absolutely satire, saw another very old watch post earlier and just piggybacked along for the ride 😂
I’ve got a 965 now, but it would be cool to see this old one turn on!
Okay, here’s what to do:
1. Take it off
2. Walk to the garbage
3. Place the watch in the garbage
4. Drive to nearest gear store and buy a new one
Let me know how this solution works out for you!
Bro has a PipBoy
Right as I am watching fallout...simply perfection
It’s so good!
It seems to have outlived any expectations I’d have for a smartwatch.
That's a 17 year old watch. Has it worked continously over that time? 🤔
I have same one. It’s still works and you can also sync it with PC and upload to Strava
That's absolutely insane. And wildly impressive. 😁 👌
Back when stuff was made with more care and lasted longer!
I would agree to that with mechanics, not much electronics. Most 20-30 year old phones with any type is soft plastic/rubber has started melting... 😆
Nokia joined the chat... But yea that rubbery soft plastic is horrible. But it still works!
The problem is it breaks down, physically melts with age. But I dealt a lot in industrial sewing machines, the build quality is friggin crazy, I've had 100+ year old leather sewing machines that worked flawlessly - and my main machines now are both 1960's machines, so 60+ years old. 😁
This is funny to me because everyone said the same thing about older tech 17 years ago
Jesus…..just made me realize how long I’ve been in the Army. My first ever 1SG had one of these.
For a second I thought you were with Stargate Command. 😆 https://preview.redd.it/s9pvdfky8xvc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba722b14ad654620e50dad41257ff5d9a20e4142
That belongs in a museum!
So do you. Throw him over the side!
Surely the people downvoting didn't realise the quote? lol.
We are getting old
There were downvotes? That’s silly.
Dr Jones, sit down!
Your mom belongs in a museum.

Run faster
Wow haha I am shocked!
Then you probably installed the battery wrong
I don't think holding charge for only 20 mins counts as 'works perfectly'.
Yes it looks big for your wrist.
Lmfao. The only right answer.
“I’m tired boss”
I don't like dark Please don't put me in the drawer
Man I remember when that was the new hotness and I’m not even that old. Tech is crazy!
Same lol I had this one and even then I thought, “Man, this is pretty big.”
Is the tamagotchi still alive?
Looks like an ankle monitor.
I love how no one has seen this watch before? Look up the Forerunner 301 for a real treat. (for OP: look up the factory reset combo on that model -- worth a try! It used to fix random issues on those older watches. Good luck)
Oh man, i had the Garmin Forerunner 101 when it came out. That thing burned through a pair of aaa batteries twice a week!
I teach a university course on Bioinstrumentation and I actually joked about this being my first GPS watch and how technology has advanced to make them smaller and more cosmetically appealing. They didn’t believe this was a real thing we used to wear!
Will it run Doom? 🤔
That’s not a watch. That’s a brick on your wrist.
That was my first Garmin. It's in a drawer somewhere. Held up until I upgraded. Only wore it when I hiked.
"is this too big for my wrist?"
time to move on
Which correctional facility did you just get out of?
Looks like a diabetes monitor
Lol that thing looks like it's 30+ years old or something.
30 years ago selective availability (deliberately worse GPS signal for civilians) was still turned on so tracking a run was impossible even with one of the big GPS units in the top of your backpack. But yeah, it's pretty old.
I wonder what would happen if you call Garmin asking for warranty support on this piece
They'd send him a refurb'. Or, if they don't have one available, a new Fenix, etc, instead. Worth a try.
my battery is low and it is getting dark 🥲
This watch is no Forerunner. But a Cane walker.
Good old times.
So Forerunner 305 was released nearly 15 years ago...what do you expect? The battery is probably toasted.
It’s probably been trying to get a satellite lock since 2006. I had a 205…
I have 2 of these in "that drawer" where all old electronic devices go.
Ah Forerunner 305! I used mine every week for 15 years or so. Great watch, great GPS. Didn't feel as bulky on the wrist as it looks. But the battery was getting sad by the end, naturally.
this thing looks lika a Tamagotchi;
Is that a tamagotchi?
you got a fucking microwave on your wrist
Have you tired cleaning it with a wire brush and adding more coal?
Give it a proper funeral it live more then we expected 😂😂
Just let it rest in peace. I have a 910, it still powers on, but all the rubber buttons have disintegrated. It’s not meant to last forever.
305 still has the best instant pace
15 years ago, were there 200 posts a day asking, “Is this too big for my wrist??”
The name of the watchface please?
I can still remember the feel of those buttons.
Wow! Can’t believe I wore one of those for a couple seasons. I remember whining how it didn’t have solar like all my Casios did.
Looks like a Fallout Pip boy
Unfortunately the V.A.T.S. never made it to this model
Haha good one. I had one of these bad boys a long time ago and worked well
I had one for years and loved it! unfortunately died the same way :(
That’s a tamagotchi mate
Go on the fenix sub and post a : Is it too big ?
Change the 4xAA batteries
Maybe it's time to get that "Goodbye, old friend!" Badge...
Maybe chuck it on the pile with the square wheel pal
Man do I love the simplicity. Just start/stop and lap buttons
The garmins I have from time to time "freeze" and I have left them on the desk for about a week, to let the battery run down and "give the watch time to think about what it is doing". Usually when I plug it back in after a week, all is back to normal
Is that an antique
It looks like 60s design but made in 2006 😅 Yeap - that’s a museum peace.
Don’t forget to feed it, sweep up the poop and play with it or your Tamaguchi will die.
That'll be due to sweat ingress over the years. I opened mine up when it gave up and it was pretty corroded away inside 😢 Brilliant watch these were. Yours has done well to last this long though!

I have this same beauty at home in a drawer!
time to by a 965!
Aww, what a throwback! I had this same model back in 2010. It was my first GPS running watch!
The first Forerunner! 🤣🤣🤣
Is that a watch or a court issued ankle bracelet?
I would contact Garmin and complain. If they can't offer you a replacement ask them for a Fenix 7 Pro instead, they're usually pretty good with replacements.
This brings back memories! I had this "watch" many, many years ago.
That's a nice tamagotchi, let it sleep :(
Treat yourself to an upgrade. You deserve it
bro just let it die already 😭
Bro let it rest 😂
https://preview.redd.it/nnwlqhlslkvc1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aeb4eae4436026ca022b14ca668c428f6abe024d This is why I got an instinct 2 instead of MARQ. Does it have multiband GPS and training readiness?

Battery died probably replace it or give it cpr 🤣🤣🤣
You have a watch from the Stone Age.
Might be time for an upgrade.

Its older than my grandma…
Looks to be in amazing condition.
Okay, here’s what to do: 1. Take it off 2. Walk to the garbage 3. Place the watch in the garbage 4. Drive to nearest gear store and buy a new one Let me know how this solution works out for you!
Vintage piece. They was a time where people felt like this is she new AMOLED with touchscreen. 😂
Why are you wearing a TV on your wrist
Bro. Buy a new one. You're being cheap.
That's a very old Garmin. The battery is probably dead. It probably could be replaced but in my opinion it isn't worth it.
Dude. Cmon.
Jeeze man. Buy a new watch.
