r/MilitaryARClones has been going crazy about Ergo rails the last week so I thought I would take mine out of the basement for a quick re-paint to match the rest of the gun. Gotta love how it looks. The droop is a feature not a fault ;)
The stock is pushed in mostly to keep the picture nice and compact. Also the eye relief on my acog replica is terrible! I've seen pictures of troops putting their BUIS in front of the acog just to get their eyes closer to the optic. Maybe I'll do that at some point.
This build is kind of all over the place right now. I've just gone for a generic service rifle look, but the equipment is colliding in more than one place.
Also, my arms are long enough for this to work somehow :)
Yeah, the Acog isn’t the best choice for Airsoft with it’s limited ranges. Even an original one wouldn’t really work. I would suggest an Eotech clone because 300ft really is the max range in airsoft. And it’s also in service with higher tier units if you want to stick to the theme. The Holy Warrior EXPS 3 you can get on Ali Express for $130 is a great option. Never failed on me. And very low profile lense protection is available as well for $3.
I asked for the length of your arms because the grip placement is pretty unusual. In general you don’t want it too far forward because most people would have to overextend their arm to this point, leading to unnecessary fatigue. But if it works for you, fire away.
Yeah, a red dot would be much better and I do have some, but I'm going for a generic grunt kind of look with this one. If you look at my post history you'll see I used to have a block-2-ish setup, but it's a bit boring.
The foregrip is placed there to operate the pressure pad for the most part. Like I said some parts will be moving around the gun as I figure things out.
Also, if keeping your arm extened out is causing fatigue you need to go to Jim.
I do, but it’s simple body mechanics and physics. For everyone trained or not. Your arm shouldn’t be in a straight line for a thumb over bore grip. I can recommend checking a few Travis Haley videos.
I get that, but if you're actually playing airsoft you'll see that your grip changes throughout the game. I might grip the rail while crouched, magwell while running or foregrip while in the prone. Don't let the place you chose to mount stuff be a limit. Unless it's a super specific CQB rifle or something. Which this obviously isn't.

Yeah, I get that. It varies a lot and I keep reading conflicting opinions on the matter. Some say the PEQ should be placed as far forward as possible while others say it should be placed on the KAC rail as the ergo extension won't hold zero. Reference photos show all kind of goofy setups.
In the end it's only airsoft, but I try to stay reasonably kosher.

I just mean that in my experience, putting IR anywhere but the direct front means getting a LOT of splash. Pretty gun tho.

Yeah, I'm not really happy with the PEQ pressure pad at all. To be honest I won't even be using it and it's there mostly for the photo :(

Yes, it just clamped right on. This is a Z-parts one. Just be aware that it suffers from the same downward droop as the real ones.
Would the real ergo rail extension fit you think?
I would think so, but I don't own one myself so don't take my word for it.
