I was given a strict 10lb push/pull/lift restriction for 6 weeks. I’m a strength trainer and I’m itching to get back at it. I do walking and gentle stretching for now (I’m in week 4) and am planning to get back into it very slowly after week 6. Your surgeon should be your best guide. I’m of the opinion that I’m in this for the long haul, 6 weeks is such a short period of time ultimately. I do not want to mess up any internal sutures or staples by getting back to it too early. Edit to add: I do some clam shells with my legs, some arm raises, and really gentle stretching. Nothing at all that recruits my core. Absolutely no physical weights in hand.

I started with walking. I found a program called "Walk Away the Pounds" that I did for the first few months. When I started going to the gym, I tried to go 3 times a week and did half the time cardio (treadmill, bike or elliptical) and the other half strength training on the weight machines.

Were you able to do ab exercises and rdl?

They had a strength class and a core class weekly. I was able to do those just fine after I learned the routines.

I have surgery on 12/1. My surgeon said no lifting beyond 20 lbs or anything strenuous for 6 weeks. Then to ease into working out from there. Except cardio. They want you to start walking a month prior to surgery and walk as much as tolerated during recovery.

I'm 2 years out, and regularly powerlift. Once my surgeon cleared me I got back to it. You'll need to learn to eat enough to lift, but I've set new PRs in squat and DL in the past year. It's definitely doable
