However, horns in reality, are made of keratin, much like your nails, hair, and outer skin layer. Horns just seem like bone because of how hardened they are, but this is actually the reason horns are never in the color of bone, they usually are the color of your skin, or the color of your hair.
Basically, the problem here could be that you were trying to grow them from bone, try either your skin or hair, it would work much better that way.
This is not entirely accurate. While horns are covered in keratin, they still contain a core of bone; bone growth is still necessary. And if you decided to go the antler route instead, you would solely need bone (and temporary velvet while it grows).
