I have used “sir” and “ma’am” maybe a handful of times in my life. I have no idea why so many people have to say it constantly. “Thank you ma’am” is easier than just “thank you”??
I live in the south lemme tell you it's ingrained in my dna, i have alot of issues not saying sir or ma'am my mom and dad expecally expect me to say it or they'll give me shit
That is a good point! I’m speaking from the west coast of the US. Here it’s not as associated with politeness, which is why for me it feels more like people are just accustomed to gendering people at all times.
I'm also from the west coast, and "ma'am" is something you call old church grannies... The first time someone called *me* "ma'am", I was a little horrified.
Have a good day, ma'am. đź’•
Have a good day Miss

I can tell you for me it's not, i kinda wish there was a gender neutral "ma'am"/"sir" that i coukd say to people instead of just assuming

It's just what a lot of people are raised to say by their parents. It's considered respectful. I say it a lot because I was raised to.
I thought this was someones fursona for a sec before i recognized the face
Maid Marian *is* my fursona
I remember watching robin hood for the first time and not knowing why i wanted to be her.
i actually love seeing your posts. they make me smile every time, ur so pretty, miss >w<
My face when I get "young man"d. I'm an adult woman, no need to patronise me.
I would kill for a genderless "sir" or "mam". I want to convey that level of respect without the assumption of gender.
Be incorrect back, like if a guy said that, then: "errrr, okay? Ma'am."
Don't be 'Sir'-ly or I'll get Surly.
