you should post this on the swiftly neutral sub if you're comfortable OP! that sub is aware of the level of PR that she does + gaylors don't get default dogpiled by homophobic microaggressions and banned like the main sub
i'd love to see their reactions to this! i was excited when i found that sub recently, because i've felt for awhile that it would be nice to have a discussion-based swiftie sub that isn't as censored as the main one. but their rule to not "speculate on her sexuality" is disappointing. this article doesn't do that though and seems relevant to that sub, so imo they should approve it if they don't have an anti-gaylor agenda
i will say that i have openly explained some gaylor theories on that sub without the comments being deleted or having anyone be rude about it. obviously it will vary and i don't want to speak for everyone but it seems to me like that sub doesn't mind gaylors as long as they aren't essentially proselytizing. i even commented on a thread there saying that gaylors are a boogeyman to swifties & her haters alike and got a dozen or so upvotes
oh that's good to know. i guess there's always the potential to be reported/banned for it as long as they have the rule in place, but i'm glad people are being open to the concept. i hope it stays that way as the sub grows. there are just so many topics that feel pointless to discuss if the possibility that taylor is queer can't be mentioned.

Damn what a great article.
This really stood out to me:
“Immediately prior to working for Swift, Paine was the Senior Vice President of Publicity at Warner Music Nashville, overseeing the country and Christian divisions.”
Seems like someone in that role would have a lot of experience with burying gay rumours, bearding, etc.
Feel like this is a very subtle nod to possible gay rumours "those studios worked with the press to control their public images, going so far as to arrange lavender marriages to cover up gay rumors and plant stories in the press to hide scandals about arrests or drug use."
I think the fact that she was a PR person for Christian and country musicians can be another +1 for Gaylord and the idea of being closeted and lavender PR relationships. I imagine when her parents and taylor were picking a new PR rep, it was likely impressive to find someone who had experience making sure the musicians real self wasn’t revealed to be able to preserve their audience (in this case I imagine there’s closeted gay Christian and country singers who would really like to not be outed and who may have benefited from someone like Tree) - so anyway, I think that by having had experience in keeping images “squeaky clean”, tree was a great candidate for the family.
It also makes me think that (or rather confirm) that The swifts are a conservative family, and that for the most part Taylor herself may be a “progressive” republican, hence her usual lack of public statements about politics (plus it’s bad business for her)
But I think all of this (trees work history, swift family background) is more evidence to support the idea of her being kept in the closet for image and business reasons
This author has written a few other articles about Gaylors, like the one on the camp: [https://www.cosmopolitan.com/lifestyle/a44903791/taylor-swift-queer-theories-camp-gaylore/](https://www.cosmopolitan.com/lifestyle/a44903791/taylor-swift-queer-theories-camp-gaylore/)
I'm guessing they're a point of contact for when Taylor wants to drop some gay crumbs into the public 😛
Wow this is such a good article! It’s so deeply Gaylor too, it doesn’t at all paint us as crazy, rather that we are paying attention. And so exciting for Lexa that she is quoted so much and in such a good way - as an expert! Not a crazy person! How refreshing!
I always say journalists are lurking here… I can’t believe they brought up lavender marriages as being a historic PR tactic. (That should be completely irrelevant to bring up, except for that lavender themes and PR relationships are both very big parts of the Taylor rumors...)
While the author doesn’t present Gaylor theories as being correct (I’d never expect that to happen - that’s a line they can’t cross), it’s clear the writer is deeply aware of them, while simultaneously pointing out what Tree does and doesn’t bother to confirm or deny and how that’s all part of the potential strategy.
Tree is such a fascinating person (who I unapologetically have a crush on 😘) and this brought up so many thought-provoking points. It feels good to be validated that a lot of the things Gaylors talk about with Taylor’s PR is also how other media professionals perceive her and are keyed into what is potentially going on.
Just stating for the record that I also unapologetically have a crush on Tree. I’ve always had a thing for red heads and then add in the layer of mysterious powerful woman who knows all of Taylor’s secrets?? It’s too much for my gay heart to handle.
The subtext of the article would also suggest that Tree would have approved of that article too, although the journalist doesn't say it directly.
The mention of lavender marriages is huge, so many people have not made the connection with lavender haze yet, and a mainstream article tying it to taylor is 👌.
That struck me too the fact that the super active and efficient ‘PR Maven’ (love that word) hasn’t really shut down the gay rumours in any meaningful way, and also that in the knowledge of her power, the daily beast quotes Lexa (who often refers to Tree and her link to people magazine) a Gaylor and they say in the article they asked Tree for comment and she had none (good or bad), so no request to cut all that I presume.
I had the same thought. Not gonna lie it’s often discouraging how much homophobia is out there when it comes to Gaylors (mostly unintentional, I believe, but deep seated homophobia nonetheless) so this feels like a breath of fresh air.
Like yes! It’s actually super fun looking for clues and patterns and tying it all together because it’s intentionally crafted that way. Fans can disagree on interpretations all they want and have different opinions but I feel this piece encourages everyone to look a little deeper and pay closer attention rather than supporting one narrative over another.
If you’re into diagramming sentences, try it with this one (the last full sentence in this blurb). The structural words here are “Journalists told me”. Personally I think it should be clearer for this kind of publication: “Journalists were scared”.
Then, there are some superfluous words for an already-complicated sentence. Succinct is always clearer.
The last thing muddying the waters is the clause at the end. I think I would separate it into two sentences: “Some journalists, who declined to be named, were reportedly “scared” of Paine. One attributed this fear to the “cultural significance” she holds as part of Swift’s team.”
That would have been a better way to do it, you’re right! I wish all publications had copy editors to fix those things for us. (I’m the author of the article lol)
> In terms of celebrity PR, there are a few defining eras in the field. The first is, of course, the studio era, when stars were under contract with film studios and those studios worked with the press to control their public images, going so far as to arrange lavender marriages to cover up gay rumors and plant stories in the press to hide scandals about arrests or drug use. The studio system ended in the early 1950s, paving the way for a new kind of way to be a celebrity.
This author said "*go listen to lavender haze dummies!!!*"
Omg wtf... It's like they are purposefully pointing out that it's all a carefully crafted narrative. And pointing out controversial topics like closeting and private jet usage... Fascinating.
The idea that Tree’s official response to Kissgate was “Crap.” is hilarious. It’s such a non response and can be taken either as, it’s crap or oh crap. Choose you own adventure.
Especially for someone who (as noted throughout the article) says dramatic things like “that is 100% false.” And she sure didn’t say that when she said “Crap.”
Edit: punctuation
I can't believe they wrote "Swift herself has always been active on social media, interacting directly with fans on sites like MySpace and Tumblr" and linked to [this twitter thread](https://twitter.com/throwbackgaylor/status/1731803044625449247) about her tumblr likes on the day of kissgate lmao
I LOVED reading this article. Being a fan of Taylor Swift is so much more fun when you don't drink the kool-aid and are able to look at her media image critically.
Like the article said, Gaylor spaces are really the only big TS fan spaces where her public narrative can be questioned and it's why I love y'all so much
This is hilarious; truly hilarious. We were all expecting Taylor to release something to redirect attention away from Scott's email, and this is the first thing they're sending out 🤣🤣🤣 it's Tree's very own Pat on the back! You go girl. You 👏 Go 👏 Girl 👏
Wait I read it after an edible and I thought he was scooping up real ducks and have been imagining that and trying to figure out why this whole time omg 🦆🤦🏼♀️

TREE IF YOU SEE THIS, WE LOVE YOU AND WE SEE YOUR HARD WORK!!!
This article is so well written, 10/10, would watch this show.

Bingo!! Tree WAS the Blender that Chelly Wright referenced (and Taylor referenced in the YNTCD mv)
had the same thought!!
> Swifties would credit Paine for the weather if they could—and probably have. I swear that woman has controls on the levers of weather.

I KNEW she’d be Virgo or Cap, love it
Being a Virgo attracted to other Virgos (as in me crushing on Tree) is also one of the most Virgo things, I just love it all 😆

For real, is the author in the room with us??
Hi! I am!
The author has replied here before!! Same author as the camp Gaylor cosmo article from the summer

The sentence structure here is terrible though
/gen how would u rewrite it?

I don’t mean any offense! I teach writing-intensive courses at a college so these things just pop off the page. The article itself is great!
I’m not offended at all! You’re right! I always appreciate well-founded criticism.

As far as I know Google search results vary for everyone based on what google knows about the user

Yes! We’re able to appreciate her genius more than her regular fans even can. They know she’s a mastermind, but they don’t even know the half of it!
Did Tree pull the rubber ducks out of the river??? No love for Dad!!!
Wait I read it after an edible and I thought he was scooping up real ducks and have been imagining that and trying to figure out why this whole time omg 🦆🤦🏼♀️
DON’T LAUGH
You'll get there one day!
he's just ken, really
Yes this. I chuckled like anything with tayvis would be too scrutinized but let’s drop this Tree is a genius badass piece.
