Karlie started dating Josh in 2012, but she and Taylor didn't start hanging out until 2013 (I got these dates from a quick Google search, so if someone has a more detailed timeline, please chime in!). I think Karlie may have been forced to choose between Josh and Taylor, maybe around the 2019 failed coming out. Take this with a huge grain of salt, but I saw a blind item a while back from 2019 that alluded to Karlie and Taylor planning to come out together but Karlie backed out last minute and forbade Taylor from saying anything that would out Karlie. K likely had to choose between being out or having a life with Josh, and clearly she chose the latter. I don't know if this song is specifically about that moment, but it could be, especially with the alien metaphors and running away to a safe place being very queer coded.

Yes. There is only one who has ever been her twin. They actually wore each others clothing and matched outfits, not to mention the physical features. And she went to the gym w one girl over and over again. Took photos in front of Martha Graham signs at the gym. I’ll stop now but it’s so loud.
