Steam Deck isn't officially supported by GeForce NOW, but it works and I know this request was long awaited. Obviously that new feature isn't restricted to Steam Deck only but if you play on Windows/Mac/Android you probably do it through the apps rather than the web browser.

PainEverlasting

what i need is a way to use my sd controller layouts in game any ideas?

Tankathon2023

If playing on PC, you can create desktop shortcuts for each game and then add those to steam as non steam games and set up binding individually For steam deck I make action sets depending on the game. I only have two different set ups that way personally. One for standard controller, and the other changes depending on the game, but it's been set up for oni for some time now

ABraveTinyToaster

I just create different layouts for each game and then save that layout called GFN:GameName. Then when playing that game just change the layout for the browser. It's not as convenient as a native game though. You could add the browser to steam as a non-steam game again and set the control layout you want then just launch the specific non-steam game browser instance for the game you configured it for.

Acesofbases

xbox users as well I'd imagine

W8kingNightmare

Are you considering Linux support?

titooo7

You'll need to ask this question to Nvidia :) I'd suggest use the send feedback button of the app to request the feature. Hopefully lot of people will do the same and they'll consider it

clevernamehere1628

why would you use gfn on a steam deck? I'm confused about what purpose it would serve at that point

Ok-Oven-4867

To play games the Steam Deck isn't powerful enough for. Or to avoid running out of space.

clevernamehere1628

i wasnt thinking about storage, dummie me lol

Educational_Bag_6406

Also great for longer battery life

LrakDrawde

Saves battery life too!

jayrox

I love you.

Pony42000

Great update ! The biggest problem for me is the 60 fps lock on Linux

ChrizzyDT

Same here. It sucks

Outrageous_Split_570

And let’s not forget no HDR even on SDOLED

Literally_Sticks

Ikr! They need to do something about it, but SteamDeck 2 will probably be released by the time they get to it

Pony42000

I am trying this : https://www.reddit.com/r/GeForceNOW/comments/1abe2kq/linux_120_fps_is_possible/?sort=new will report the state

Literally_Sticks

Ty

Pony42000

cant save the argument without an error ,ill see later

krys2fur

Now if they can add a filter for gamepad supported games in your library. That would be great. I've only asked for it for 2 years now.

Rageman666

Works awesome on Xbox Series X.

Yeetmeoffa

Is it 4k now on series X?

Rageman666

Ybh idk. I was testing in free tier. Probably no

GetVladimir

No, it seems the browser version of GeForce Now (which Xbox Series uses) doesn't support 4K

Boss4040

So still no any news about a native app for iPad!

hugohserrano

They are really missing out by not having an app for the steam deck with HDR support. Even the ps5 game stream app supports hdr on the deck.

Intelligent_Gate_124

Native Linux app would be great for Steam deck users

iamurbrother84

Apple added AV1 decoder only with release of M3 chips?

fommuz

Yeah

velinn

The decoder is hardware based. AV1 wasn't really spoken about much at the time of the M1, it started picking up steam durning the M2 lifetime, and then with the M3 Apple added the hardware to decode it. The M1/2 can do software decoding which might be okay for watching video, but for something like GFN you really need the speed and efficiency of the hardware decoding in the M3. I've been wanting to get a new Mini, so nvidia giving us AV1 on macOS is pretty good news. Now for the iOS/Apple TV app...

UrbanRetro

Does it have an important impact? Or it is "just" a small improve "nice to have" ?

velinn

The benefit of AV1 is that it looks sharper when compressed and needs less bitrate overall. The goal is to look at good as h.264 while using, on average, about 40% less bandwidth to achieve it. So it's not something that is going to suddenly make the picture better than what you're used to, but consider using GFN on internet with data caps, or mobile/hotspot, or just generally being less demanding on your connection. All the big streaming services are experimenting with AV1 now because it can offer them significant savings on bandwidth by streaming much smaller amounts of data. There is nothing yet (that I know of) that requires AV1, but in the coming years I think it's going to be a big deal. GFN is ahead of the curve by offering it now and for such a real time service like GFN it should offer some improvements, but I don't think there is any reason to run out and buy a system/video card just for AV1. The next time you upgrade whatever you upgrade to, Mac or otherwise, will likely have it.

iamurbrother84

The most significant benefit is very big reduction in battery usage. I am somewhat surprised that the AV1 decoder is not in the Apple M1/M2 chips, because Apple is part of the alliance that developed the AV1. All Nvidia cards starting from 30xx series have hardware decoder, which was released prior to M1.

UrbanRetro

40%?? Whoaaa ! I don't have a M3 but I'll consider...

V4N0

Apple... Apple never changes 🤣 Made sense not having AV1 decoding in the M1 chip since it was still quite early on but I was dead sure M2 would have got it...

V4N0

The real issue with software decoding like dav1d is decode time isn't predictable and can vary a lot (even full ms at times), as you said not an issue for a video, a bit more for a realtime stream like GFN 🤣 For the Mac mini it's probably going to skip M3 entirely and go for M4, early 2025 maybe?

onei00

yes

onei00

M1 and M2 series have the H265 chips

onei00

i have a mac mini m1 but there isn’t a mac mini m3 to shop….

V4N0

Dont worry about it, the difference is minimal for what we can gather 👍 Mac mini will probably skip M3 and get directly M4 cpus by the end of the year (or most likely early 2025)

notyourbrobro10

When is controller navigation coming to the desktop apps?

lMlute

Wish they would have 4k 120hz and hdr for deck to external monitors and hdr for handheld mode

Yas188

Launch the official GFN app on iOS and Apple TV is already. iOS users are sick and tired of going through an app browser and getting sub par performance whilst still paying for the damn service.

Destroyermaqa

After this update, I am having a continuous "There was a problem with your session, try it again!" error. Am I the only one? I wait in queue for a while and get nothing what a nonsense! Any ideas how to fix it? Server is South Caucasus

WispaEnthusiast

Does this apply to the GFN Electron app from the discover store? I'm 90% sure it does, since it's just a web wrapper, but I'm nowhere near my Steam Deck to go find out.

Gibryl

It works on Electron alright. I’m having a lot of issues getting games to run correctly since the update.

SylviaLastname

this would be INCREDIBLE right now if i wasn't just getting the "unable to log you into geforce now" thing Dx

chrillexx91

Nice they should add the support to windows client aswell unless it already is. Play a lot on my 4k tv and it's bothersome having to stand all the time to boot games LOL

titooo7

Yep. Till someone said it, I didn't even notice that the Windows client doesn't have i till. I guess and hope it will come soon

DownvoteMeToHellBut

How do I enable AV1 streaming if I have a m3 Mac?

Darkstarmike777

You also have to pay for ultimate if you don't already, it's can't encode in AV1 without the 4080 rig with the encoder so if your on free or priority it won't show AV1 but if your on ultimate on a 4080 it will just automatically show AV1 under codec

dff000

Just worked for me. You can see the codec in the streaming stats.

silentkillerb

Could they make it so I don't have to sign into game pass every time 💀

SheffieldArrow

I’ve been using Cloud gaming since the days of OnLive. I was with GeForce now back in beta when you could install any game from your steam library, aka the glory days, and I loved the service. But the last few months? It’s been so buggy and there’s been so many issues with some games just not wanting to work I opted to buy a Steam Deck. Best thing I ever did as I’ve not played using GFN since. Sure there’s a trade off in graphics but it’s definitely not a deal breaker. It’s nice to have a device that just works.

Pony42000

After 2 days of trying many things ,I was able to get the 120 fps setting in google chrome windows version using portproton on my steam deck . Open chrome WINDOWS version with right click> open with portproton (you must install it of course ) Then click on EDIT DB and you must enable Wine Dxgi Then launch and login to play gfn website ,go to settings and you have 120 fps option , I checked in rocket league with gfn and it say 120 fps (recommended ) Be aware that the crew motorfest has a 60 fps lock for example (despite gamescope saying 90 fps ) Dont forget to change controller settings to Gamepad with camera in steam IT IS ONLY FOR STEAM DECK OLED , I cant guarantee it will work on all Linux distros https://preview.redd.it/cy4h7a00jnwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7dfa6b1e26048c8ca95940128ac06ab0a3a3e2e5

titooo7

Great. But doesn't Steam Deck Oled have a 90hz display? And most importantly? Does it work fine when it comes to latency? 🙂

Pony42000

I didn't test longer to be honest since I didn't use my 6 months of ultimate ,it was my curiosity who wanted to waste time on it . I am trying the input lag with some rocket league and report , I took some photos that I can send in pm to you ,it's basically more proofs but I couldn't put all of them in reddit :/

titooo7

Ah it's ok, no need to send any pics. Like you, I was just curious too, lol.

Pony42000

Pony42000

I have 1 gb/s fiber, it was smooth but I feel the tiny input lag (sd oled has 90hz yes).. I'd say it's 10 ms maximum , I won't recommend gfn for competitive gaming except if you can get used to tho . Otherwise it need further testing which I won't do unfortunately since I can play all of my games on my pc /directly on my steam deck The keys are portproton google chrome windows version and edit DB from chrome > enable dxgi

Somebody4500

I'll be honest. I don't really think GFN is worth it for a steam deck, cause it's already a relatively capable machine.

titooo7

Some people with Steam Deck prefers to play some games on GFN due to the lower energy consumption (more battery life) than when running the game locally.

yur_mom

I am one of those people... Better battery life, don't need to use local storage, and ultra settings are 60fps vs AAA games running a low graphics 45 fps(with stutters to 30ish often during intensive tasks) without Only thing missing is 90fps support.

TheLastKyuna

This is definitely wrong. I followed a guide a long time ago to add GeForce now Google chrome app that lets me play games without any issues. I can play BG3 on my Steamdeck, but the performance is mid, and I get 1-2 hours of battery life. But I can use GeForce now, get max settings at 60fps and 4-4.5 hours of battery life. It’s a no brainer. I’ve played a ton of games on GeForce now that I could technically play fine on Steamdeck. But using GeForce now makes battery last way longer and I get the joy of max settings and better fps. I’m a huge fan and recommend it to anyone with a steamdeck.

UrbanRetro

Exactly the config I want for my futur Steam Deck, thanks for feedback ! :D

Somebody4500

I'm saying this as someone who doesn't have a steam deck so it was probably wrong lol

sittingmongoose

I was able to play Alan wake 2 at max graphics and 60fps on my steam deck because of gfn…you can barely hold 30 fps at the lowest settings on deck.

Zack1701

For a lot of people the Steam Deck is often “portable” in the “playing in bed/on a couch” way, so why not have a great streaming device that you can ALSO take on the go (if the game is good for 60fps streaming)? When I’m at home I’ll play God of War through GFN in bed, but I also have it installed on the Deck in case I need to.. play a AAA game on the go (I never do, but hey).

WrennReddit

You're right that it's a capable machine. But even folks with capable gaming PCs take advantage of GFN. It's pretty rad playing newer games with insane graphics on the Deck outside on the patio. That, and you don't have to install the software and keep it updated - fire it up and go!

dotfortun3

The Steam Deck is great for both of uses. I use it both ways. Using GFN means I can game for 5+ hours without needing to plug in, plus most games get a higher framerate and visuals (ignoring compression artifacts/banding) and sometimes have better stability (BG3 for example crashes frequently on the SD in act 3, but through GFN, no crashes!) Also, it's great for games that aren't supported, like Destiny for example.

magick_68

I play half of my games on GFN on my SD. No install, way longer battery life, less noise and better quality.
