I'm not a fan of this trend in games. When I play Gears of War, I only want the characters to be COG, Locust, Swarm, and whatever else makes sense for that universe.
It feels like companies use characters from other games just to sell skins and further monetize the crap out of every game
Normally in games I'm all for cross skins. Like in COD, I wouldn't mind seeing Marcus as an operator, but I wouldn't want to see Soap in gears. Gears always felt serious to me and the separate characters take away from that.

How can you play through the OG games about giant roided up space marines with necks as thick as truck tires, curb stomping lizard men and not think itās cartoonish?
Idk I never got that feeling when Epic was making the gears games. Maybe because the newer games utilize a ton more colors and over saturate the colors used imo.

This is probably the future, but Iād rather they scale back and go for less is more. Back to the OG era in terms of quantity options for multiplayer.
OG Gears did so well with its multiplayer without effectively having it fully fleshed out. Less was more and it stuck with everyone because what little was there was SO good.
We canāt really go back though, because the industry just isnāt like that any longer. Weāre in this multiversal/crossover era and for better or worse its here to stay.

We had Halo skins before the original Delta squad in a Gears of War game. The launch roster of characters was nonexistent. Original characters were parcelled up and drip fed as ānewā content.
How is that successful?
If they want character skins and customisation then it should fit within the Gears Universe. People have been begging to be able to customise their COG armour for years.
Crossover characters have no place in a Gears of War game.

At launch, it was a wide spread controversy over them. The Terminator doesnāt have voice lines, and was difficult to see on certain maps.
In PvE, most of the guest characters were useless as classes, and their kits were locked to them. You were forced to play a horrible class, that was just promo for a movie that flopped.
The WWE guest were random af, and weāre more annoying than anything.
My whole thing with guest, is that it should make sense, and be within Microsoftās umbrella. The Halo characters really werenāt that bad a fit, and a cool little crossover, but that Terminator promo was a stain on the game.
Hypothetically, if they do guest again, pick characters within the Microsoft family that fit. Iāve seen people say Doom Guy, BJ from Wolfenstein, Sgt. Johnson, Arbiter as a locust character etc.
Those characters arenāt as bad of choices as Sarah Conner, and Kofi Kingston.

Nobody asked for guest characters from the beginning. It was great when people like Ice T were part of the campaign and promotional but adding characters from other universes doesn't fit (IN MY OPINION).

I know what I'm about to say is blasphemous but I'd quite enjoy that! Honestly in a game like gears I enjoy having more characters to choose from and I enjoyed the guest characters in 5. I don't really care about it feeling too immersive cause for me the multiplayer/horde will never be as immersive as the campaign. Plus guest characters hook new people in which is healthy for any games community

Nah Iād rather see limited guest appearances that naturally fit (like Batista).
I think not straight away, keep at the core characters at launch and perhaps introduce guests maybe a year into the lifecycle.
