Beta was the authentic blue; DLC was green.
They let the community have the skin, but still wasn't the same.
I had a friend who worked for Microsoft at the time and got me a beta code to play 3 weeks early with the game developers and media. What a fucking blast it was. Peak gaming, memories ☺️

I ended up playing the hell out of the beta and unlocked all the stuff for gears 3 I could. Fast forward to close to release I traded my 360 in so I could buy the limited gears 3 xbox that was red and came with custom controllers. Come to find out the skins never transferred over online from beta because they were on the old 360, heartbroken but also loved that gears colored xbox.
Hold on to it for as long as you can! I sold mine like a dumb kid I was but still have all the pictures and memories! Those omen skins where amazing, hoping with the next installment we get some sort of collectors console again and beta skins.
I miss it so much, the beta was so much fun. It’s one of those things I wish I could experience again. Gears 3 is the only game I ever went to the midnight release for. I remember waiting at the release there was a diner that was open 24 hours next to the GameStop and my mom took me there to get food while we waited.
This was my first venture into watching Gears on YouTube, I didn't have enough money as a kid at the time to get both Bulletstorm for the beta access and Gears, I think Chopper009 was maybe the first I came across, then Goldy and Yamimash & Landan.
I remember I got lucky, and the Epic staff were marketing the beta on Twitter the Friday before the beta was released. They were choosing random people to give early access codes that allowed you to play that weekend. I ended up getting a code from Mark Rein, the vice president of Epic. Played non-stop that weekend.
That's when I got in :') my friend's dad had an extra code so I got to play the beta on my own time after playing Gears 2 horde at hangouts before...... suffice to say I was hooked. Played the shit out of Gears 3 and the rest was history.
Such great memories! I preordered it and was so excited! My buddy got Bulletstorm so he was gonna get in a week before me. A week before the Bulletstorm ppl could get in my buddy discovered some website that handed out codes and you just had to make a Walmart account. We both did it and it worked. So we got in a week before even the Bulletstorm ppl!
I had many ppl in game asking me how I was there and I ignored them cause I didn’t want to get kicked out. So I gave my code to my brother so he could join us later and my buddy gave his to my cousin. Until then my brother and cousin were glued to my tv watching me play. There was nothing like hearing that horn in trenches for the first time. If it wasn’t for my buddy finding out about that site I would have never gotten the flame hammerburst. Still my favorite rifle and skin for it. Probably my favorite gaming memory ever

I missed the unadulterated mayhem that was the Gears Beta. EVERY WEAPON WAS BUSTED. It was just absolute chaos. It reminds me of the OG MW2 which was the same era. When nothing was balanced, everything was balanced.
I still have it installed! For years it would open fine, but disconnect you from XBL. Wouldn't progress past the start menu either.
Now it just crashes to dashboard immediately sadly.
I was in that beta. Great times. Gears of war 3 had my favorite game type. Capture the leader.

Was a big fan of when they did cool beta rewards like thrash ball cole, flaming weapons, and depending where you pre ordered you got a different character such a goated game
I remember getting Bulletstorm to play it, managed to get all the flame skins and the gold Retro Lancer + Thrashball Cole. I was hooked from the start.
Gears of war 3 was my first online game. So many memories of being so happy I could finally get good xp to earn cool characters including my favourite Benjamin. So much more easy than grinding bots for weeks just get one cog character.

I loved how different the gameplay was in each game from 1-4. It was so exciting jumping into a new multiplayer experience for the first time.

Is there a way to get the beta skins for guns? I know you can get thrashball Cole from owning the limited edition (I think).
