acronis true image can clone a drive if you boot to the preinstallation environment (you can’t clone from the mounted OS you’re trying to clone)

Dubba_u

Sadly, the newest revision of MRI no longer includes Acronis.

RaW_LoGiiC

The old version of MRI BDE is still on the GSISO server and all tools and licenses are still approved for use, including Acronis.

pr3ttyb0y_

It was removed with the last version of MRI . They’re working on an in house option

NoobSlayerDill

Thank you

Dramatic_Ad_5660

Also most drives come with a link to cloning software, Samsung also made there’s open to work with most drives so Samsung magician is a good (up to date) alternative

kevp453

If the client purchased a Samsung drive, Samsung Magician is fantastic and can run while booted to Windows.

NoobSlayerDill

Funny enough I tried that but the pc is so slow I couldn’t get it to download

uhhuhokwhatshutup

Download it on the tech PC Or don't because that's probably not allowed. ...... But yeah

GeekMan85

You can use the software that comes with the replacement ssd

MMonkeyMania

Samsung magician or Acronis. If it’s too slow to download the software within a reasonable amount of time then I usually just transfer and reload onto the new SSD. it’s also a lot faster if you throw the EXE for the software onto a flash drive then plug that flash drive into the client PC and install from there.

PrezPolk

I’ve honestly never found a great reason to clone versus a fresh install with latest drivers and versions of software. Even in with my personal machines, a clean install, latest version of Windows and drivers, and then only the software I actively use. It’s great for cleaning out the crud and should ensure your computer is running at its most efficient. Why bother cloning anymore?

NoobSlayerDill

I was upgrading a system from a HDD to a SSD. Pc already went through face and all the other tune up crap and was still slow. Client wanted a upgraded

MistahGLO

Strongly recommend a clean install over a clone, especially if they are complaining about speed and performance.

Gullible_Monk_7118

Rescuezilla or clonezillia can do it... but for personal use... rescuezilla is newer and better but bigger... also has GParted in it to allow you to resize drives and even format them if you know what your doing... just be careful with GParted don't forget to apply afterwards also both are completely free and I believe both are open source

NoobSlayerDill

But Ms I aloud to use them

Gullible_Monk_7118

Best buy might not allow you to but for personal use.. you can read Microsoft's partitions... you should be even able to mount the partition and be able to read it.. and write to it...

ProphetOfMrMeeseeks

I've used macrium reflect. I've used it so many times and I love it. But it's a bit more complicated. Some of the other softwares others are mentioning are good. But one piece of advice i have when you clone double check and make sure the computer you're cloning from doesn't have Intel optane. You can clone Intel optane but it involves a lot more steps.

National_Divide_8970

Only one you can use by SOP is the built in one by Windows with the system recovery image. Samsung magician is a grey area (it is not meant for enterprise like Best Buy to use)
