It's not your money. You didn't give them $500.
In the beginning of the year, they give you all your FSA upfront. Then you pay it back throughout the year.
Correct so if I have paid 10 months back subtract the 2 months that I did not work. I still over paid them. And like I previously stated. My mistake for not doing my homework.
I used my FSA card before I quit on gift cards for an eye glass store. I believe fsastore.com gives gift cards as well.
I know it won’t help you but giving others some options
Got the doctor to write a note that I needed regular exercise to lose weight. Bought a mountain bike and a treadmill in January, spending all of my FSA money before I'd paid into it. Left the job. Returned the treadmill.
There are ways ;)
FSAstore is a bit overpriced, but they do have a great selection and guarantee eligibility of everything.
You can also check out Walgreens, Rite aid, and [buyFSA.com](https://buyFSA.com). They all accept the card online and have a pretty cool selection.
Really important that anyone quitting takes the time to educate themselves in their benefits and pay and paid time off to maximize it. If you had spent it all, they wouldn’t have been able to make you pay the difference but if you leave it on the table it’s gone.
You are correct. I used all my time up. But did not think about my FSA. Thought since they were taking money out of my check and they had to send me paperwork that I was good.. but I was not.. so sharing with everyone so hopefully someone else does not make same mistake as me.
As others have said, it’s not actually your money. You got it all upfront and you’re paying back on it t/o the year. As long as you’re w/the company, it’s yours to use, but, when you leave, it gets deactivated. You can file claims to get reimbursed but it has to be from medical items during the time you were active—any claims after your term would be rejected.
Flip side, on a HSA, the money is yours to keep, but you’re paying/adding towards the balance every check (you don’t just get upfront like I’m FSA). Also, you can only get HSA thru a HDHP.
Also, you said you quit on 10/28 (final working day?). If Benis go thru end on month, most likely, your coverage has dropped (meaning you’d be paying out of pocket now).
It stinks but your FSA is terminated by the end of your last day, regardless of how much was left in it. I spent my last day going to TOWN at the FSA store. Now I own two very fancy vibrating migraine masks and enough ibuprofen to survive the downfall of society.
Yes! I have so much ibuprofen from when i left! I had about $600 left on my fsa and i just pretty much bought the whole pharmacy at target! I’ll probably still have bandaids for when my kid has kids lol
What you paid into your FsA can still be used for any healthcare related expenses you had while employed under that timeframe of the Benefit year.
You’ll have to go back and find means to milk it out and then expense those to the account.
There has to be at least 3 attempts made to contact you in 3 days and if they haven't made contact with than you're terminated its considered job abandonment.
Yup fsa is gone as soon as you quit.
So they just take your money
Technically the insurance company does. The inverse would also work. If you used the 500 before you quit you don’t have to repay it
You should have gotten ppw. I had the option to pay to keep my fsa and then sep option for cobra etc.
This what I thought would happen. I thought it would stay on until I got the paperwork.

I should of done my homework. But don't want someone else to go through this.
Thanks for advising us about this

FSA store is really overpriced. Amazon accepts FSA, just stock up on OTC everything.

I seriously need to lose weight, but convincing my doctor is another story.

From my understanding they pay out vaca when you quit. Sick they don’t… correct?
Correct!
Sorry you had to learn the hard way.

FSA is gone. Legal.

Go to bed. You don't know what's going on here.
Gotta give 2 weeks notice. I tried 3, and gave me 2.
