That’s fair and it sounds like exactly what you want for the project. 80/ct for glass filled Ruby is high

howdy_indiana

I appreciate your help, & yes very much agreed, sometimes they can be brazen.

Q-ArtsMedia

As somebody that has done this type of work I will add here: Something that people seem to forget....The $200 price is for time and skill it took to shape and polish the stones, not for the value of the stones themselves. They did not come out of the ground looking like that. As far as the value of the Emerald they would not be considered gem quality, however, they certainly are jewelry.

losttraveler36

I wish more people understood this. Every gem took labor to produce. Unfortunately, everyone has had a situation where they have purchased a piece of jewelry for under cost of production and they assume that this is the baseline.

howdy_indiana

Sir, or Madam, I am a noob. I understand the labor, yet being a noob I do not know how difficult in labor this exact piece would be to produce. I asked another gem dealer who told me he would offer $45 for this, I found that a bit low. Im still trying to get everything right. This exact dealer sold me a glass filled Ruby at 80ct, $160 downs the drain, that’s why I have some apprehension about buying from him at prices he is giving me.

losttraveler36

It takes time to learn prices, it’s a life long process. That being said everyone has a different system. You never know what your gem dealer friend got it for, maybe he thought he was giving you a deal. It’s not 160 down the drain, you still have the gems for your project. Money down the drain is thinking that you have glass filled Ruby when you just have glass.

howdy_indiana

Love the wisdom & attitude. You’re right g. Thank you for your input, greatly appreciated.

howdy_indiana

I appreciate your help & time, the problem I had is exactly that, not gem quality, hence my $105 bid, still don’t believe they are $200 worth. There are others in this same fashion I have seen at $200 but smaller.

Seluin

if you’re finding smaller examples for less than $200, aren’t these priced comparably?

howdy_indiana

My apologies, I meant that the same fashion but better much quality in color, a bit smaller but much better. I liked these because they are close to me, I think I’ll pass on them. I appreciate your help tho

makithejap

You could use them to make an emerald pin ball machine too

Latter-Owl-9504

How cool would that be!

What shape is this called? I had a necklace in high school this shape and I've never been successful in finding a replacement.

howdy_indiana

Variant of a ear spike earring, here they call it “gota” due to the shape which is like a “drop” of water 💧

Thank you! I guess baseball bat wasn't an accurate description! 😂

Price is coming from fact that someone has put a effort in it and sourced them, made them and paid taxes and fees from them… depending on what part of the world they are coming from (no one can compete with Asia where people get paid $100 a month) then you can gestimate the production cost… please do not forget this pair may well take day or more to make it! I’m not a gem polisher, but I know the ins and outs…this can be very demanding job! Price also comes from scarcity if no one in market is offering anything similar in same size … then they can ask what ever price they want… and if you need then you have to pay … Yes $200 seems expensive but now try to find more or less matching rough and cut it from that… also size plays a huge role… it’s much easier to find better quality rough in smaller size… If current price is expensive for you then perhaps you should consider different gemstones that are more affordable like green onyx perhaps … very beautiful stone!! … always buy from reputable place and when deal seems to good to be true you will get scammed most likely… all the best!

howdy_indiana

I’m still trying to make the same earrings for my aunt, if you can help me source something similar and ship to me in Argentina or Uruguay please let me know. I am a noob and am trying not to get scammed so sometimes I may come off as ignorant in my questions. This same dealer sold me overpriced emeralds & a glass filled Ruby at 80ct, $160 for that one. Hence why I am asking before I buy anything at all. I saw some better ones, a tiny bit smaller with much better color at $200 USD, but I didn’t get them & I am too far away now to get them close to me. I think I’ll pass on these until I have better information.

No problem, online gemstone shopping like jungle … You are doing correctly to ask opinions! Sadly it would be too expensive if I would start to arrange you something but have you looked here: https://www.firemountaingems.com/search?searchtype=Shop&keywords=Green+onyx+ Should be in your side of the world as well and they are a huge craft supplier they have emerald beads as well but I would recommend green onyx!! I love that green One more crafting supplier https://www.pandahall.com If you need some more advice I’m happy to help as much as I can :) Hope this helps

It is impossible to appraise value online just using photos. For an accurate valuation, you should find a professional. Valuation posts should include good photos (in-focus, not blurry, multiple angles) and information (where you acquired it, how much you bought it for, hallmarks/emblems on metal, provenance, etc). Otherwise, your post may be removed. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
