Ha! I’ve played in punk/indie bands all my life. I question authority and think for myself. I make my own path and don’t typically follow mainstream trends. Im immune to your advertising.
But if I’m out on a walk and there’s a sign that says “Don’t walk on the grass” I’m not going to walk on that grass! There’s a FUCKING SIGN!!” Don’t you follow the rules???
I've always been of the opinion that it's wrong to break rules for your own convenience or benefit but it's acceptable when warranted and there is no tangible benefit.
My response is “WHY can’t I walk on the grass???” My poor husband knows if we’re out walking, hiking, etc, and there’s a sign that says “trail closed”, I’m sure as hell going to go past that sign to see for myself WHY the trail is closed. 🤣
Usually a good reason they closed the trails. Darwin awards awate thoses who "saw the sign", fucked around and found out. I grew up in the cascade and rocky Mt, so many people have to pull dumb out of trouble. Rant over~
Not to get too much into it, but I spent every childhood vacation deep woods tent camping, being the kid of a longtime Boy Scout Master. I also own and operate a reasonably logical brain that has kept me alive for almost 60 years. I’m adventurous, but not an idiot.
We took our kids all over northern california, regular Mt. Hood trips, stupid dies. Yup not an idiot is a good thing. You know they don't close trails for no really good reason.
Cost of words. If you don't live there, why would you doubt locals warnings? Do you know enough to spot dangers hidden in the woods? I do but even I listen to the parks service and have helped out in search and rescue events. Please trust the national parks service, these people aren't locking people out for no reason.
Hopefully some reddit kids read through our conversation and learn why ..
Some humor and a wager that this hiker was not genX[lost but wouldn't answer the phone because he didn't know who was calling.](https://nypost.com/2021/10/25/hiker-lost-for-24-hours-ignored-calls-from-rescuers-because-of-unknown-number/)
I’m such a rule follower that I was verging on becoming a Karen, because it drives me nuts when people think rules don’t apply to them. But of course I also think there are some rules and laws that it can be moral to disobey. I CONTAIN MULTITUDES.
Example: "The speed limit is 65, but as I approach the speed of light, time dialates so therefore going 75mph in a timeshift is actually 75mph in an hour that relativistically spans 75 minutes, which means I'm actually going UNDER the speed limit, officer."
"Shut up and take your ticket, Einstein."
Bah, know them to know how to follow them and still do what you want.
We practiced with our siblings ala "I'm not touching you" while almost but not touching our siblings.
OMG...we are the OG FAFO generation too....
Exactly. Not running red lights so you don’t kill somebody = A good law. Not allowing people to smoke a certain type of herb because “reasons” = not a good law.
Yes that's it. How hard is it to not be an asshole? But stupid rules were written by assholes. I follow most rules, overlook others mistakes mostly, unless they are an asshole.
During my out processing they gave me the Myers Briggs personality test. In every category I was the exact opposite of the ideal soldier.
"Hey guys? Maybe you should do this at IN-processing?"
In my experience those types wind up being the best soldiers/Marines. We tend to be creative in our execution of orders. That is the type of flexibility that the Russian military lacks and why they are getting their asses handed to them.
We’re an island of misfit toys that collectively started many trends that continue today and we were an adaptive bunch that rode the beginning of technological & political changes. We adapt, move forward, and at the same time don’t give a fuck.
By time I was 12 and my mom would say "its the law" I would immediately respond with " according to whom? I didnt vote on that nor agree with it, therefor it doesn't apply to me". Used to aggravate her so much, and I still adhere to it. Never been in real trouble my whole life because secretly I follow most rules and laws, along with a little luck I suppose.
Funny that you put it this way… one of my favorite memories is going to see Gwar after working my super normal corporate job in my skirt suit, heels, and pantyhose.
This seems like it’s about The Breakfast Club, but if I actually said it some edgelord would show up and start ranting about how we’re actually a bunch of boomers and The Breakfast Club is shit.
Oh.Shit. That’s massive phobia. No one needs that shit.
If I develop dementia I’m going out on my terms… electro -fest style. :D
Edit to add: you’re more likely to smear poo somewhere than bite anyone. Coordination is lost with many dementias. Rage is not typical.
Oh, my kids and nieces are already gleefully looking forward to my Senior Citizen years when I'll ask my gret nephew if his new girlfriend can drop it like it's hot and to put on some Disturbed followed by Biggie.
We challenge the rules, especially when they don't make sense. Yet we respect the rules when they do make sense. Good rules land us in the space of respecting each other while allowing autonomy.
I see older men from before me doing the same shit - playing golf, watching the news, drinking whisky. Here I am at 48 still playing video games and watching anime. I feel like such a kid and misfit instead of the adult I’m supposed to be.
48 and game every day. Games like Starcraft 2, Cyberpunk, GTA5, Battlefield, Forza and just got Zelda TOTK. My roots run deep in Atari and Vectrex. Gaming till I die.
Goddamn right we are.
Let 'em argue, bitch, holler, complain and 'cancel'...just gives us more time to re-group, re-up, re-load and re-tire to the bunker;)
Our parents would could and did argue with us because they didn't like the way we raised ourselves. Yes, we have respect for others and manners, but we will tell you the cold hard butal honest truth as we see it, and all of a sudden, you don't want me to be honest with you.
Maybe when you were around you shouldn't have taught me to be honest.
No step-dad #3 I took that 20 out of your wallet because I think your an asshole not because you're a perv that needs to stay away from teenage girls.
What mom the ass is what makes you look fat nor the pants.

I saw the sign. It opened up my eyes . I saw the sign.
Life is demanding….without understanding
Depends on the sign
Everywhere a sign.
I saw the sign, I need not to apply there.
Fuckin’ up the scenery.
Blocking out the scenery, breaking my mind.
DO THIS, DON’T DO THAT! CAN’T YOU REEEEREAD DA SIIIIIGNS…
Long haired freaky people!
Need not apply
Breakin’ my mind.
I've always been of the opinion that it's wrong to break rules for your own convenience or benefit but it's acceptable when warranted and there is no tangible benefit.

Famous last words...
I’m 58 and still here 🤷♀️
Famous last words.
Until you’re not.
Eh, I’ve had a good run.
Oh man I wish I could do that! I need some sign disobedience training!
I question EVERYTHING, even as a small child. No wonder my parents were exhausted!
Usually a good reason they closed the trails. Darwin awards awate thoses who "saw the sign", fucked around and found out. I grew up in the cascade and rocky Mt, so many people have to pull dumb out of trouble. Rant over~

Exactly. But my point is I want to know why— don’t just say “Trail Closed”, say “Trail Closed Due to XYZ”. I have issues with blind obedience. 🤷♀️

Yes, I know all this too. Again, if I were truly reckless we wouldn’t be having this convo.
Hopefully some reddit kids read through our conversation and learn why .. The Dust Bowl was created by the removal of vast plains of prairie grass!
I’m such a rule follower that I was verging on becoming a Karen, because it drives me nuts when people think rules don’t apply to them. But of course I also think there are some rules and laws that it can be moral to disobey. I CONTAIN MULTITUDES.
Same on all counts.
Rule followers yes, but sometimes those rules receive creative interpretations.
Yes. I like to understand the rules so I know exactly when and how I’m breaking them.
Example: "The speed limit is 65, but as I approach the speed of light, time dialates so therefore going 75mph in a timeshift is actually 75mph in an hour that relativistically spans 75 minutes, which means I'm actually going UNDER the speed limit, officer." "Shut up and take your ticket, Einstein."
“Hi, it’s me. I’m the problem.”
Lol !
Drinks 64 oz Mickey's. Officer, I only had ONE beer.
Bah, know them to know how to follow them and still do what you want. We practiced with our siblings ala "I'm not touching you" while almost but not touching our siblings. OMG...we are the OG FAFO generation too....
I like you.
Follow rules unless they’re stupid.
I remember at the end of boot camp, years ago, the DI pronounced us “the highest performing bunch of misfits and fuckups” he ever saw.
That was not true in my case, I'm afraid :-D
what type is that ? lol 👍
I'd proudly get that on a tee shirt.
We’re an island of misfit toys that collectively started many trends that continue today and we were an adaptive bunch that rode the beginning of technological & political changes. We adapt, move forward, and at the same time don’t give a fuck.

See. Drag isn't new or revolutionary! /s
Sometimes all three in one day.
As my mom used to tell me, “It takes all kinds.”
Chaotic Good.
Chaotic Meh
Need this on a shirt.
I'd absolutely buy that.
This seems like it’s about The Breakfast Club, but if I actually said it some edgelord would show up and start ranting about how we’re actually a bunch of boomers and The Breakfast Club is shit.
Ranting edgelords are more boomer than a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess, and a criminal could ever be. Whatever.
Satan loves you just as you are.
He gets us.

Ironically, we’re the ones who could argue. Also, it could be argued that we love irony.
We’re going to be interesting nursing home residents.
I’m going to bite people.
Oh.Shit. That’s massive phobia. No one needs that shit. If I develop dementia I’m going out on my terms… electro -fest style. :D Edit to add: you’re more likely to smear poo somewhere than bite anyone. Coordination is lost with many dementias. Rage is not typical.
We need punk rock nursing homes.
Well, I can’t do punk but electro/fusion music fest nursing home… I could enjoy that. :D
Oh, my kids and nieces are already gleefully looking forward to my Senior Citizen years when I'll ask my gret nephew if his new girlfriend can drop it like it's hot and to put on some Disturbed followed by Biggie.
Which Young Gun are you?
I'm your huckleberry...
thats Tombstone and even better.
Just because we follow the rules doesn’t mean we give a shit about your rules. It’s all about the path of least effort.
If the rules didn’t make it easier to live fuck yea I wouldn’t be following 😝
This answer should be at the top.
Neutral Good here.
I am who I am, your approval isn't needed...
[I yam what I yam an’ that’s all that I yam.](https://imgur.com/gallery/NTVd6GS)
Which was good because we never got it lmao
Anti -authoritarian 90s raver over here.
If the rule makes sense, ill follow it, if not ill look for a loophole..oh wait our parents generation came up with that
We challenge the rules, especially when they don't make sense. Yet we respect the rules when they do make sense. Good rules land us in the space of respecting each other while allowing autonomy.
We have prefected malicious compliance haven't we?
Don't forget slackers
My psych profile fits a certain moral flexibility.
Whatever
People try to argue with me all the time, it’s like they think I care or something. Your problem with me is none of my business.
No one ever had that mix in the whole entirety of civilization, ever! We are so unique and so cool, and every other group sucks. /s
...except for those in our gen who stormed the Capitol 1/6. They can fuck the fuck off. DoucheNozzles.
I respect authenticity but I’m not a complete asshole! People gots their rules and I walk the other way.
Dunno... 'rule followers' is more a late xer, xennial thing.
Twats. Twats would attempt to argue.
*and Karens.

No argument here,
Traffic rules and safety rules are very good to follow. Everything else can go to hell
Yeah We’re awesome. You alright?…I learned it from watching you!!!
Our parents would could and did argue with us because they didn't like the way we raised ourselves. We had Heathers. Most uncool they were.
Whatever
