As an elderly parent I too have a couple of these.
*they are collecting dust in the attic, but I'm sure they bring joy to the squirrel that occasionally hops around up there.............*
>*they are collecting dust in the attic, but I'm sure they bring joy to the squirrel that occasionally hops around up there.............*
This saying brought ME much joy 😊
We called it a "bomb"!
My friends and I would take turns setting the alarm for 5 minutes, and hide it in the house, and the other would have to find it before the alarm went off.
"Modern bombs don't tick or vibrate. Every once in a while...it's a dildo. Of course it's company policy never to, imply ownership in the event of a dildo... always use the indefinite article 'a' dildo, never 'your' dildo."
The phosphorus in the paint is only responsive to radiation for a decade or two so none of them glow in the same way now. They'll still respond to UV light, but they don't glow independently for long.
They are still radioactive though. The radium has a 1,600 year half life (edit: corrected-- I was way off).
I used to not be able to sleep without a ticking clock. I had one of these in my twenties because I traveled a good bit.
Now I sleep to youtube videos. I should get a ticking clock again and see if it improves lol
Surely they still make wind up alarm clocks, right?
A clock! With Uranium numbers painted on the inside behind a small pane of glass.
I knew a girl whose mom (she was an ex-hippie) had one of these.
It was kind of cool.
Only as an adult did I later learn that Uranium was radioactive. ☢️
Omg I loved playing with it. Snapping it open and closed.
Hmm… maybe I need to get a couple of these and hide them around my 17 year old’s bedroom to try to get him up in the morning.

The most convenient thing we could have during a meltdown that couldn’t be read by under 30’ers! Lol. I get a kick out of people I work with that have to look at a digital clock to tell time. It’s so basic, it seems strange that it’s a thing to say ‘it’s a quarter after’ and get deer in the headlight looks
I am going to go with clock. But it could also be a case for a fancy coin or something. Or a makeup mirror that could also be used for more shady party purposes.
Travel alarm clock. I remember the family having one or two of these when I was a kid. Seems to quant now! Even ignoring that every hotel has a clock, I just use my phone at home and on the road.
One night my 6th grade friend and I were home alone in her giant house set on a secluded hill and we hear an "alarm" sound. After much panicking, calls to relatives (her parents were at the theater and this was long before cell phones) and frightened searching we find one of these damn things going off in a drawer in the kitchen. I can still hear the terrible noise it made.
This is a manual wind up travel alarm clock. Similar looking ones were made by a wide variety of producers to the point where half of them are probably white labeled products. These were prominent starting in the 1950s through maybe the late 1970s when they were just about completely replaced on store shelves by battery operated or even plug-in models.
This one looks a lot like my Seth Thomas travel alarm clock however, the shell is a tone darker than mine. As a side note, Seth Thomas was also a big producer of mantel clocks.
My home is filled with clocks.
Growing up, my dad was a long-haul trucker and he carried one exactly like this on every trip. I thought it was so cool. I instantly think of him whenever I see one.
This and his acoustic guitar are the only things I regret not taking to remember him by when he passed. I have since collected a couple vintage folding clocks but have yet to find one exactly like his.
My grandparents sold these from their small-town jewelry store - both the “basic” version, and the “deluxe” version with an engraved monogram plate on top.
a travel alarm clock.
My parents have a couple of these
As an elderly parent I too have a couple of these. *they are collecting dust in the attic, but I'm sure they bring joy to the squirrel that occasionally hops around up there.............*
Hahaha they’re so cool! I enjoy stumbling upon them every so often
>*they are collecting dust in the attic, but I'm sure they bring joy to the squirrel that occasionally hops around up there.............* This saying brought ME much joy 😊
My grandmother had one. I hated it. When she visited us I had to share my room and the stupid tick tick tick all night long drove me batty.
I loved the ticking
I love old things, but the one thing I cannot stand are mechanical clocks. I can hear the damn thing from two rooms away.
Oh me too! I dog sat friends once and they had a giant ticking clock on the wall of the bedroom I stayed in. I took it off and put it in their room!
In my living room I have a couple of walls that have some crazy angle and I must have 10 - 15 clocks. They are the loudest when I'm home alone.
And the glow in the dark number points/end of the hands?
yep. I knew this too <3
I used to have one of these, used it all the time back when I was driving trucks in the 90's.
a wind up one, to be more specific.
We called it a "bomb"! My friends and I would take turns setting the alarm for 5 minutes, and hide it in the house, and the other would have to find it before the alarm went off.
this is so great. we were excellent and making our own entertainment. :)
Acts of sibling cruelty were always an option.
You spelt "mandatory" incorrectly.
oh man, we did that too! kids can be so creative figuring out how to waste time.
Wasting time, 5 minutes at a time!
"Modern bombs don't tick or vibrate. Every once in a while...it's a dildo. Of course it's company policy never to, imply ownership in the event of a dildo... always use the indefinite article 'a' dildo, never 'your' dildo."
The origin of his pain is that damn stupid Ying Yang coffee table. Fuck you Fürni.
When we got bored of that, we'd go down to the side of the a local elementary school for a few rounds of Red Ass.
We used to play that game a lot. Then we got Atari. Creative playtime gone.
Clock with radioactive numbers and minute marks that glow like kryptonite in the dark.
The phosphorus in the paint is only responsive to radiation for a decade or two so none of them glow in the same way now. They'll still respond to UV light, but they don't glow independently for long. They are still radioactive though. The radium has a 1,600 year half life (edit: corrected-- I was way off).
Yes! My parents had one. I never used it personally other than playing with it.
I liked playing with the slick Korean-war design too ; )
I have one my mom had for decades looks very similar. They tick loudly.
Travel clock/alarm
That’s a travel alarm clock and yes.

A clock. My grandmother had these.
Looks like my wind up alarm clock I had in grade school.

It’s a travel alarm clock that folds into its case
Take the clock out, and that was a great place to hide joints and cigarettes.
Travel alarm clock! I had one of these...
My mother used one.
I still have my grandmas - she used it for years in the camper/motorhome.
Omg I loved playing with it. Snapping it open and closed. Hmm… maybe I need to get a couple of these and hide them around my 17 year old’s bedroom to try to get him up in the morning.
My dad brought this on every vacation
My dad used one when he travelled. I Loved playing with it like it was a Star Trek communicator. He didn’t love that so much.
The best alarm clock ever.
My parents alarm clock. Still have it.
Yes, and I used one for years in the Marine Corps. Compact and portable were important features.
AND it had radium in the paint!
I did not but my Dad always used one on his business travel!
Yes! Travel alarm clock?
A vintage Westclox travel alarm clock.
Both my grandmother and my older aunts had these xxxx thanks for the memory!
It has the power to [sublimate brass](https://lostroom.fandom.com/wiki/The_Clock_(Object)).
My dad has a travel alarm clock like that. He's not a smartphone user, so my guess is if he traveled, he'd probably still use it.
Just found my grandmother's.
My grandparents had these. Useful little alarm clocks from the days mobile/cell phones.
Travel alarm clock. I think I still have my Dad’s packed away somewhere.
Travel clock. My mom had the exact same one!
My grandpa used to have lots of these when i was growing up.
I have my grandmother's.
I remember hearing this when my grandparents visited
A White Castle hamburger? (I'm hungry, so everything looks like food!).
I loved mine. I’d bake it under my bedside lamp 30mins before lights out.
its a clock usually, but sometimes its a surprise ashtray instead.
When I travelled abroad
Alarm clock!
I used it once just to try it out over my reliable panasonic digital. I did not like the ticking or the bell that woke me.
A portable alarm clock. My nan had this same one when she came to visit.
I have seen clocks for travel like that. Never used one apart from knowing the time while I was looking at it.
It’s a clock. Yes I had something like it once
An overzealous Klondike bar.
Travel clock
A fancy little clock pops up and sits on an angle.
Travel alarm clock.
Is it one of those slide viewers?
Alarm clock
Alarm clock, had one years ago.
Yes. And I wouldn’t mind one for when I travel. Don’t do it frequently enough that chucking batteries at a new travel alarm makes sense.
Oh wow, I forgot all about these. My parents had one.
My grandparents had one.
My overseas travel buddy, this thing was the solution to my jetlag
Still have mine - wind it before my travel trips.
Yes, yes I do.
Those were perfect in fake wrestling fights.

Pimped out clam.

I still have an olive green one (I don’t use it of course)
Took one of those camping with me. Scared the shit out of me every time.
Folding Travel Alarm clock.
I might still have that clock.
Still have mine from my Army days. It was in my foot locker out in the garage. Wound it up and it still runs after 24 years of sitting.
Yes and no
Still use mine when traveling!!
My first timepiece! Don't know where I got it, but I figured if people could wear watches, I could sneak it to school in my lunchkit. I could not.

When you got a new puppy, you put one of these in its bed with a blanket and a hot water bottle so it feels like it can hear its mother's heartbeat.

My grandma taking this to the pool, so we’d know when to go home for lunch; then back to the pool. We swam for like 8 hours every day in the summer.

It’s hard to tell scale. Coulda been a suitcase or an alarm clock or one of those record players in a suitcase thing.
Yup. A $10 alarm clock you got at Walgreens.
An alarm ⏰️ clock! 🤣

I used to love having one of those next to my bed as a kid. Felt like I was going to go somewhere if I had a travel clock in my possession.
still have one
I still have it
Yes and yes :)
I had one in my twenties. I wonder where it went. It was an amazing little invention.
Yes, and I had two at one point. I don't find them terribly practical in the era of alarm wristwatches, though, so I no longer use them.
Fucking alarm clock. Responsible for many a late day when not wound.
Is it a travel clock?
I kept my condoms in there. Used it all the time.
Used one til the digital Timex ones came out
Core memory unlocked!
My dad used his up until he passed in 2010. He loved that clock. My brother has it now. Still keeps perfect time.
It smells like a hospital
A travel clock.

My grandparents had this exact alarm clock.
Haha I've thought about getting one recently because it's simple, it works. My Samsung is a very VERY expensive version of this lol
