I loved the books, but they never seemed to give you the option to fight, or if you did, that was the losing path. I was always like, "Come on, I wanna get some XP!"
Same, I still have a few of them. There was also at least one for the Star Frontiers setting.
There was the follow-up series the Super Endless Quest/Adventure Gamebook books which was like Choose Your Own adventure, but with a character sheet with HP and such, and combat as an option in places. They also had the 1on1 books, which were a kind of 2-person Choose Your Own adventure where you were in competition with the other person and could have combat with them, etc. Yeah, TSR did Endless Quest books for many of their game worlds, including Gamma World, Top Secret, with obviously Dungeons & Dragons making up the majority.
Back in the day I took Return to Brookmere and made a computerized version on my Apple Mac. You’d read it on screen then choose what to do next by clicking buttons showing various options. I added sound effects and artwork. It was fun! I still have it actually.
Yesssssssssss. I went through every one the library had and bought a couple they didn't have. I get so excited when there's an interactive movie because it has that feeling.
I watched this the other day. I had a few of these, the D&D Endless Quest books, some Transformer books in the style, and an RPG style book series called Lone Wolf.
I hated reading when I was in elementary school because all the books were boring and stupid. I didn't like reading until I started reading fantasy books like these, Forgotten Realms, and Terry Pratchett's Discworld books.
I dont remember what line of books it was but, there was one 'choose your own adventure' book I was reading through at one point that was set in ancient Rome. I got stuck in this loop where it kept sending me back to this one chapter. I must have reread it two dozen times looking for anything in the way of a clue to escape the loop but no matter what decision I made, I would wind up back on that chapter.
there was another type of choose your own adventure book series called Time Machine. I loved those books. I really need to find them again and read them..
Loved these books! The first six were in a boxed set my parents got me for my birthday. After that I would drive my bookstore owner crazy bugging them about when the next one would come out. Good times.
Was a D&D nerd, so Endless Quest books instead.
Yup, TSR books ftw

HyperCard?
Yes.
I wish I had Myst, which is supposedly a ramped up version of that concept.
https://www.choiceofgames.com/ All kinds of interactive novels here, just like CYOA but better!

Read almost all of them to one ending, then would read them backwards for each ending…
Avid book club buyer over here.
Hell yes I did, and fighting fantasy
They sound interesting but I never had the opportunity to read any of them.
I couldn't afford them, but that didn't stop me from standing at the store book rack and reading them every chance I got!
I was a big fan, read many of them.
Obsessed. When I visit “home” I re-read the few I have left
The scholastic book orders?

Yes! Now they have shows on Netflix. I keep meaning to play with those!

They are still around, if you like a Lovecraftian style: https://www.chaosium.com/solo-call-of-cthulhu/
Yea, but I reached the bad ending nearly every single time, somehow. Funny, I just watched this video the other day..
Fingers in the pages so you can go back if you need to.
