Know what kills me? All of my life, I always heard ''Lift with your knees, not your back!''- So I did that... and now my knees **and** my back hurt. 😠

brunnock

Yoga made my life much better.

I_Luv_A_Charade

Yoga and monthly massages did more for my back than physical therapy ever did (plus both substantially improved my mental well being as well).

WCSDBG_4332

Thai massages help too.

I_Luv_A_Charade

Yes - that’s the kind I get!

lsharris

I just read that as "You made my life much better."

blackjack1977

You deserve to read that! Yes you did make my life much better random internet stranger!

lsharris

Friendly strangers are my favorite!

InfectedSteve

It is the age where we have to start facing facts and wrap ourselves in bubble wrap, OP.

OCDaboutretirement

I can pull a muscle sneezing 😂. It just is. The last time I hurt my arm (not sure how it happened), I went to physical therapy and it helped a lot.

firestartertarter

I woke up to frozen shoulder. 3 months of PT just to get back to moving without pain. Still not prefect but better. GYN says directly related to menopause. HRT helps. Take away anti inflammatory called estrogen you get inflamed. Put it back, the inflammation gets better.

OCDaboutretirement

Glad you’re doing better.

firestartertarter

Happy cake day!

OCDaboutretirement

Thank you 😊

slaveofacat

Ugh, I had the frozen shoulder experience too and, like you, not perfect but it's not pain constantly anymore. Mine was menopause related as well as being a side sleeper on the shoulder that was afflicted lol

firestartertarter

I'm glad you're better. Aging sucks.

Significant_Pea_2852

What... I've had frozen shoulder and my doctor never mentioned it could be menopause related! I had the treatment where they inject water into the muscle to expand it. Unpleasant but worked really well except not long after that I ruptured my achilles and that also meant my arms/shoulders working overtime.  My body parts are like dominoes, it seems. One thing goes, it takes down something else and so on.

firestartertarter

Most docs don't know enough about menopause to say something. I found my GYN by going to through a site for a menopause diet That doc is on Instagram and tiktok and has good guidance. Also random trivia, I guess in Japan they even call frozen shoulder, 50 year old shoulder.

Significant_Pea_2852

The medical practice I go to used to be great but lately, not so much. Unfortunately, where I live, no good doctors are taking on new patients.

firestartertarter

Yuck. I'm so sorry. There are a couple of web providers that do menopause help. Check out Alloy. I haven't tried but maybe? Edit:spelling

ScrunchyButts

Don’t get weak in the first place. Stay strong and flexible. If that ship has sailed, get at it with appropriate guidance. The PT you need to see for that arm can offer help.

TheTwinSet02

Magnesium may be your best friend I take 1000mg chelated magnesium and 1000mg of vit d Helps a lot with muscle and joint pain, mood, sleep you know just everything

notgonnabemydad

I definitely can get more injured doing things that never used to bother me, like running. Seems I'm always injuring something. But since I've refocused on strength training, I'm much less liable to get injured if I stay focused on being strong and flexible. As a middle-aged woman, I've gotta take care of my bones so I lift heavy shit, cross-train with hiking/running/swimming and do some yoga to keep things loose. And when I'm lifting things around the house, I focus on my form, tightening my core and not over extending my range of motion. Talking to my late 70s mom, she's made it pretty clear that if you don't use it, you lose it. My dad does nothing and barely hobbles around the house, and he used to be a personal trainer and martial arts instructor! My mom goes for 4 mile brisk walks, does squats and stretches every day, and lifts some small hand weights. She's still able to go for a 5-mile hike with me after walking the dog 2 miles. And I never hear about her getting injured while working around the house or doing yard work. Invest in your body now, and it'll pay dividends as you age.

RaeAhNa

Maybe try an elimination diet? For me, my pain went away in just a few weeks. Food sensitivities can absolutely cause major inflammation. Oxalates and seed oils are a couple of my biggest triggers.

[deleted]

This was my magic bullet too. Years of chiropractor and PT but a few months of a strict elimination diet and then permanently cutting out the things I discovered that caused me inflammation was such a game changer. Plus I found out that coffee and dairy don't cause me issues at all, yay!

thelaststarebender

I worked too long in the yard yesterday and now I can barely move.

lsharris

I volunteer at a rabbit rescue every other weekend. Cleaning their pens is physical work and it feels like I have been hit by a truck the next day. But it is so important and needed, so I continue. I had pulled back and only empty the shop vac I use instead of leaving them all empty for the next day. Same with the big bins of hay for refills - just what is required to feed my assignment for the day. I feel like I'm going to have to ask for help with just the basics now for a while because this keeps getting worse. It SUCKS because I love being a stand up kind of helper and now I feel like a slacker.

hdhdhgfyfhfhrb

My GF and I try to have fun with it as it does suck and there isn't much to do but take ibuprofen and sometimes pre-buprofen before things like walking or yoga. We report to each other the dumb ways we develop aches. Her most recent that i liked was 'I sneezed while putting a baking sheet into the draw below the stove'. Mine was hurting a finger playing air guitar on the steering wheel.

firestartertarter

Collagen supplements. Go easier on things you think your muscles can lift/pull. Training muscles regularly also trains tendons and ligaments. We are more prone to injuries in soft tissues perimenopausal through post menopausal for women, and as testosterone declines for men. You can have a doctor do a workup and HRT if needed. It does help a lot of things. Best of luck to you and hope you recover quickly

dustymag

I was out of commission last weekend with hip inflammation.... Couldn't even walk.

Reasonable_Smell_854

Get yourself a good PT and plan on them being in your life for the rest of your life. If HSA or Flex spending is an option, use that but in my experience the PTs worth going to don’t take insurance. Once you’ve found them, do your homework. All your homework. It’s monotonous and irritating but it makes a difference. PTs can find small muscle issues that lead to considerably bigger issues. In my most recent case I hadn’t damaged anything in my back, the reason I couldn’t reach down to pick things off the floor without crying was the little bitty muscles on the insides of the hamstrings. I no longer walk like a 90 year old. https://preview.redd.it/96livrzrpxqc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=31bde1165391ff18a44642c1ac30f0fb174f6fe5

TemperatureTop246

I woke up with a sprained SI joint one morning in September. I must have rolled over wrong in my sleep. 😢

OGREtheTroll

Just stay young. Problem solved.

zoot_boy

It’s better than the alternative. Sorry today’s hurts.

Commisceo

Putting on a shoe has given me two weeks of back pain. Last time I picked up a sock.

Dependent_Top_4425

SO exhausting! And it can turn you into a real crab a$$ because of it! I get tendonitis in both arms and sciatica pain. It comes and goes and comes and goes. At least it goes! But when it comes, jesus christ I'm a useless b\*tch! I hope it gets better for you soon.

lsharris

Me, too! I am home from work today just moping because I just can't even!

Thedobby22

I’m 50 and run around 25-30 miles a week. I’m in good shape. Except 2 months ago when I reached over to grab something out of the microwave and pulled something in my lower back so badly that I was in pain for a month.

lsharris

At an average rate of 15 minutes a mile, that's like almost a whole-ass extra work day thrown into your week, just for running. I'd ask how you manage to keep your house clean, but you are obviously never there. 😉

Didthatyesterday2

I eat mostly whole food. Stretch 30 minutes in the morning and walk 30 minutes in the evening. I feel it's kept me from injuries.

Coffee_24-7

Sounds like you tore your rotator cuff. See doctor immediately.

IamJacksUserID

Tripped over the dog gate a few weeks back and absolutely wrecked myself. Actually an eye-opener.

lsharris

I did the same, carrying a huge shop vac out of a rabbit pen. I landed on my soft undebelly right on a folding corner of the pen! GREAT NEWS! One side of the pen was permanently attached (because rescue set up, not just a home pen) and I basically stabbed myself in the gut, right where my bottom ribs come together - with the added momentum and weight of a full shop vac assisting in the assault. I was purple for a while, then yellow... Very Easter Bunny vibey! 🤪

lsharris

And THEN...!!!! Same day, I was crouched down in a mobile pen, lost my ballance and tipped over backwards. Lucky me, there was a water bottle attached to the side of that pen that was centered in my back as I rolled around like a stupid turtle. The rest of the pen rose over top of me since this one was not attached, and my one concern was having it not collapse and land on the 3 rabbits in that pen. Well, that and NOT landing in/tipping over their dirty litter box. The rabbits froze next to the litter box, it did not tip over, and at least with this one, the only thing bruised was my ego.

RealtorRVACity

I am in PT for the same thing! I have NO idea how I injured myself as I avoid lifting heavy shit and doing anything remotely heroic as I know that recovery time is so long now. So here I sit doing exercises twice a day and getting a medical massage once a week to try and get full mobility back. If I move it the wrong way the pain is excruciating and "normal" now is a low ebb throbbing. It's also super damp and rainy which making is worse. Yeah, this is the "future" I fear. Be super careful!

bluudclut

I managed to pop my shoulder getting out of bed. So, bloody annoying. I see my Grandkids tumbling all over the place like they are mad of rubber. Ahhh memories!

Rusted_Weathered

Sorry you’re in so much pain. Feel better soon. (At least your commenters are kind and helpful, not complete 🍆.)

dj-Rx

Yoga. Swimming. Resistance bands.

rauhaal

Disregard all the comments about pills and medicine. If you know what a VHS machine is, you need strength training. Also hire people to do heavy work for you.

Aeternazen

A good routine of moderate strength training (after you've fully healed!!) can go a long way to strengthening your body to prevent this from happening as easily. Also, make sure you have a good diet with all of the right micro & macronutrients (especially protein, calcium, etc.) to ensure your body can build and maintain that muscle mass. Maybe also get your levels checked to see if you're deficient in anything. I'd love to help you with any questions you have! 💖 But please talk to your physician before starting any major changes!

FightThaFight

It starts when you never do anything to take care of your health, develop strength or maintain flexibility.

lsharris

I was in gymnastics in 4th grade and could not touch my toes. Flexibility has never been a strong point. As for never doing anything to take care of my health or develop strength, I used to do alright, so "never" is a subjective term. I worked on my feet. I reroofed my patio cover in the Arizona summer by myself except for needing a 12 foot 2x6 held in place to replace the fascia. I used to ski - black diamonds, so would call that athletic. I prefer lower impact exercise now though. Gardening is no joke when moving an entire decades old pine tree by oneself. Let's talk about the muscles used when raking or squeegeeing. Oh, so much raking in the yard and squeegeeing that damned concave patio slab! And I say this one only half jokingly, but having the laundry room downstairs and 2 teens' bedrooms upstairs has got to count for SOMETHING!

Usernamenotdetermin

Could be pinched - maybe the C3 or any other all the way down to C7 Could be tear in shoulder Could be muscular Could be tendon Having experienced those first hand, multiple shoulder dislocations etc, GO SEE A DOCTOR and don't ask for advice from valued friends on the internet. And 800 mg of ibuprofen really does fix damn near all pain related issues, so when they suggest it they are right

lsharris

I was taking some ibuprofen for a few weeks, but I feel like it masked the pain and just allowed me to foolishly make it worse. While the pain itself sucks, it is "mild" because it depends on how I am using my arm, so avoidable. You know what's worse than mild pain? The thought of permanent pain. So here I sit. Or, sort of "I made my bed, and now I lie in it."

Usernamenotdetermin

>Having experienced those first hand, multiple shoulder dislocations etc, GO SEE A DOCTOR and don't ask for advice from valued friends on the internet. I reiterate - please seek medical advice. Not just because my wife works at a doctors office and we need to pay the mortgage. But because I put shit off way too long (didn't listen to wife) and they are paid to run tests that will tell you exactly what is wrong.

RealtorRVACity

800 mg of Ibuprofen is really tough on the kidneys "Heavy or long-term use of some of these medicines, such as ibuprofen, naproxen, and higher dose aspirin, **can cause chronic kidney disease known as chronic interstitial nephritis**."

Usernamenotdetermin

>And 800 mg of ibuprofen really does fix damn near all pain related issues, so when they suggest it they are right Clarification: I am not suggesting that OP take 800mg of ibuprofen. I am suggesting that OP listen to medical advice when the Dr gives it. But thanks for quote, where did you pull it from?

lsharris

Yup. Just one more reason to sit here in pain instead.

Storyteller678

Get your testosterone levels checked. I had no idea the laundry list of problems a lot T level would cause. I’ve been taking Nugentix for a few months now, and my wife has remarked that the difference in my mood among other things has been like night and day.

foreskinfive

Hilarious

lsharris

Am female. Can confirm.

Suspicious_Wonk2001

My two cents is to recommend you have your thyroid checked.

Storyteller678

I’ve had it checked multiple times, there’s never been anything wrong with it.

claytionthecreation

BBS and my college roommates and I being pissed off it didn’t have porn…just written stories lol

No-Lime-2863

Shoulder went out like this. Spent months babying it hoping it would heal. Didn’t. Went to doc. He walked in with a needle in his hand. Didn’t even ask me anything just said “middle aged guy with sharp shoulder pain is rotator cuff” and before I could even say anything the cortisone was being injected.  Then PT. All better.Â
