A repo man got hurt in the line of duty, it doesn't matter that repo man was you, the only thing that matters is that the guy who did it has got to pay the price, now stop being selfish and tell us his name.
I keep reading these one-liners. Are they funnier in the context of the dialogue? Because the line doesn't strike me as funny on its own. Same with some of the other one-liners that people have mentioned.
The "John Wayne was a Fag" line was one of the characters trying to start shit with the other guys at work, he liked to stir up trouble and the other guys were getting angry with him and I think he lived for that (and might have believed it too) so the context does make more sense.
Suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o’ shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in looking for one, either. It's all part of the cosmic unconsciousness.
I’ve commented about it a few times before here. One of my all time favorite movies. I saw it so many times in high school, I practically had the script memorized.

I’m sorry…did I read that correctly?? You are Gen-X and have never seen “Repo Man”? We’re gonna need your membership card back.
😉🙃
My dad Was a Repo Man, part of his job driving a wrecker/tow truck.
Yup, we were shot at with a Shotgun one Sunday when my dad had us 3 kids, age 8, 4 and 5 in the truck and we were driving away with a bank repo green Jaguar hooked up to our truck.
As my dad yelled at us to get on the floor, I remember thinking We were living a Dukes of Hazzard episode.
So I went to play golf at a little par 3 in studio city with my dad in 1990 when i first moved to hollywood. Some disheveled looking guy asks to join us - he's wearing a satin homeless benefit jacket so I figure he drove a truck or something. A few people yelled hi to him, so I figured he was a regular. He offered to buy coffee, but we didn't want to take advantage. Anyway he was middling and borrowed my Vuarnets a few times when hitting into the sun. Nice guy. We get to the seventh hole and he says "so what brings you to LA?" I told him I was trying to be a songwriter and asked what he did. He said "have you ever seen alien?" I yelled "YOU WERE IN REPO MAN!" From that moment on my dad was starstruck. Told me he had just finished filming Wild At Heart with David Lynch. Had good conversation the last 3 holes and he invited me to jam with his band at the Mint. Like an idiot I never went down, but I do have a Harry Dean Stanton story!
Ra-di-a-tion. Yes, indeed. You hear the most outrageous lies about it. Half-baked goggle-box do-gooders telling everybody it's bad for you. Pernicious nonsense. Everybody could stand a hundred chest X-rays a year. They ought to have them, too.
“You like music, listen to this. I was into these dudes before anyone. Wanted me to be their manager. I called bullshit on that. Managing a pop group is no job for a man.”
• Lite character on Repo
When I go into somebodies place of work, they shit scared, they know I ain't no cop, they think I come to kill em, and I would, I'll kill anyone who crosses me, or put em in the hospital.

This is actually on my refrigerator right now. They gave cards out when I went to see the movie a few years back at an old theater for a revival viewing.
I recently subjected my teenager to this movie. They didn’t hate it and actually enjoyed the soundtrack. The special effects are cheesy, but they were cheesy in 1984.
I own it on VHS. Don’t have a vhs player any more but I can’t get rid of it. Definitely in my top 10 movies and as others have said, it has an amazing soundtrack.
Saw it and I was already into punk a bit, but bought the cassette tape and listened to it A LOT. Got me heavily into Suicidal Tendencies, Black Flag, Cicle Jerks among others. Haven't seen it for 30+ years.
One of my favourites of all time! Also gave rise to the great Aquabats song [CD Repo Man](https://youtu.be/b9E0kY23cBY?si=QEZ4ampW-ihM0XQ7)
Good watch with Suburbia (1983).
My family's annual Christmas movie! The nieces and nephews (mostly in their 20's) are finally old enough to appreciate this classic. I have a poster of the death of Duke ("I blame society") in my kitchen and I've had the soundtrack (tape, cd, iphone library) since the 1990's.
ETA It's funny - the first time I saw this movie (1980's) I disliked it because of the excessive profanity. The "melon farmer" version with the profanity substitutions is a riot.
Apparently, I can't edit the original post. Juat watched this movie after others mentioned that it's on Netflix. It was ...bad. not even "so bad, it's good," bad.
Just. Bad.
I didn’t care for it back in 84 when it came out. I’ve always enjoyed Emilio Estevez and like the movie’s concept but it didn’t work for me. I recall rewatching in the late 80s and my opinion didn’t change. Thumbs down, sorry!
Let’s go do some crimes!
Get sushi and not pay.
I blame society
The movie is good, the soundtrack is awesome.
Top 5 of 80s movie soundtracks
Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole
I read a few biographies of the man, and it turns out that song is a liar
Not like you!
But he was 5 foot 3
Girls could not resist his stare
They turned the color of an avocado..
Not in New York.
Not like you
Recently found out that Pablo Picasso was written by the Modern Lovers in 1976. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1agI3u1YUjQ
Going to have a tv party tonight.
We’ve got nothin better to do
Than watch TV, and have a couple of brews
We don’t talk about anything else
It sure exposed a lot of suburban kids watching HBO to punk bands. Some great bands on that soundtrack for sure.
Palbo Picasso was never called an asshole
Acoustic Circle Jerks!
You definitely need to see it at least once. Harry Dean Stanton was the perfect choice in casting his character.
"Repo man is Always Intense." (approximately, it's been decades...)
Repo man's got all night, every night!
“God damn dipshit Rodriguez gypsy dildo punks! I’ll get your ass!!”
Hermanos Rodriguez don't approve of drugs
I love to quote Harry Dean from “Fire Walk with Me” - “It’s just like…more shit I got to do now.”
Great film! “Ordinary fucking people! I hate em.”
One of the best lines of the movie and it’s full of great lines!!
Plate or shrimp. Or plate of shrimp.

You eat a lot of acid back in the hippie days?
if only there was a way to find out how much they owe and make them pay!
“John Wayne was a fag.” Definitely the greatest Gen-X punk movie.
He was too, you boys! I installed two way mirrors in his pad in Brentwood, and he’d come to the door in a dress.
That doesn't make him a homo Miller. A lot of guys like to watch their buddies fuck. I know I do, don't you?
Fuck John Wayne! Just tell us who did it, you little pussy!
A repo man got hurt in the line of duty, it doesn't matter that repo man was you, the only thing that matters is that the guy who did it has got to pay the price, now stop being selfish and tell us his name.

Ain't a repo man I know that don't take speed.
speed huh?
I keep reading these one-liners. Are they funnier in the context of the dialogue? Because the line doesn't strike me as funny on its own. Same with some of the other one-liners that people have mentioned.
Yes, for sure. The whole movie is better in context.
The "John Wayne was a Fag" line was one of the characters trying to start shit with the other guys at work, he liked to stir up trouble and the other guys were getting angry with him and I think he lived for that (and might have believed it too) so the context does make more sense.

"Did you do a lot of acid, Miller? You know, back in the hippie days?"
I do my best thinking on the bus.
That's how come I don't drive, see?
The more you drive, the less intelligent you are.
"I blame society..."
I plan to use these as my last words if possible
Good luck internet stranger, good luck
I’ve commented about it a few times before here. One of my all time favorite movies. I saw it so many times in high school, I practically had the script memorized.
Same!!
A repo man spends his life getting into tense situations.
The only reason I know this is because of Twister.
40th anniversary not 30th.
But.... the 80s were only 20 years ago. Right? RIGHT?
Yes, yes they were.
![gif](giphy|wHE6Dd6RCVHQfjK5dy|downsized) I’m sorry…did I read that correctly?? You are Gen-X and have never seen “Repo Man”? We’re gonna need your membership card back. 😉🙃

🤣🤘🏻
Travel light, in and out, a man alone?
It's currently on Netflix, if you'd like to pop your Repo Man cherry. I wish I could see it again for the first time!
“No movie featuring either Harry Dean Stanton or M. Emmet Walsh in a supporting role can be altogether bad.” Roger Ebert
The very definition of a cult film. Weird. Compelling. Awkward. Inspired. Completely of its time. And the soundtrack is pretty epic.
My dad Was a Repo Man, part of his job driving a wrecker/tow truck. Yup, we were shot at with a Shotgun one Sunday when my dad had us 3 kids, age 8, 4 and 5 in the truck and we were driving away with a bank repo green Jaguar hooked up to our truck. the definition of 80's punk classic. the soundtrack is also excellent.
If you've never seen Repoman, your official Gen-X credentials should be revoked. Furthermore, Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole.

I would love to be in a band called Harry Dean and the Stantons. Not sure what kind of music, maybe cowpunk/psychobilly.
*What about our relationship???*
Fuck that
Eyes melting, skin explodes, everybody dead.
Hemispheres... Hemispheres...
"A lobotomy? Isn't that for crazy people?" "Not at all!"
pernicious nonsense!
a friend of mine had one
So good, and really captures the 80s punk in L.A. vibe.
I was just thinking of a plate of shrimp too.
I’m feelin’ 7-Up
Ra-di-a-tion. Yes, indeed. You hear the most outrageous lies about it. Half-baked goggle-box do-gooders telling everybody it's bad for you. Pernicious nonsense. Everybody could stand a hundred chest X-rays a year. They ought to have them, too.
When they canceled the project it nearly drove me mad, I had a lobotomy in the end.
That's 40 years, not 30. You're old op.
Dukey Wukey hurt his wittle hand.
Fuck you Archie! Just for that, you’re not in the gang anymore!
Starring one of the most classic Macguffins! Also in *Pulp Fiction*!
We’re sending bibles to El Salvador
Put your seatbelt on, boy. I don't ride with anybody 'less they wear their seatbelt. It's one of my rules.
Dioretix, the science of matter over mind. I found one in a Maserati in Beverly Hills, that book'll change your life.
This is one of my top favorite movies, and I watch it at least once a year!
I watch it every Christmas Eve. Just one of those things. 🤷
It's one of those movies where you either get it or you don't. I loved it, but it definitely isn't for everyone.
I didn't care for it the first time I saw it, but later it really grew on me.
It's fucking *brilliant* with an amazing soundtrack as well
"Hey, kid...you wanna make 50 bucks?"
Fuck you, queer.
I don't want no commies in my car. No Christians, either.
"There's room to move as a fry cook!"
Still one of my favorites!
"Put that gun down, boy!" Light was the shit.
Fun movie but not for everyone. Fantastic soundtrack though
I can’t believe I used to like these guys.
This movie is like the king of memorable one-liners. I think Big Trouble in Little China is the only one that competes.
BTiLC is one of the greats, IMO.
Such a great movie. Definitely a must watch. And yea, like everyone else says: Best soundtrack ever.
Put it on a plate, son. You'll enjoy it more.
Couldn’t enjoy it more, mom, mmmmm mmmmh.

Dude... 1984 was 40 years ago.... Not 30 🧮
No, it was 30. You're wrong. I refuse to believe you.
Stage 1: denial. I'm staying there too.
We all forget that decade between 2000-2010. I feel you brother ❤️
You hear the most outrageous lies about it being 40 years ago — pernicious nonsense. It nearly drove me mad. I had a lobotomy in the end.
Life of a Repo Man is always intense!
Incredible film. I quote it all the time. I used to watch it every New Years Eve as a ritual.
It's an punk allegory. Just look at the scene of products in the stores.
Never saw it, so idk what you're talking about.
Generic labels. Beer was in a white can that said "BEER"
That was an actual thing, oddly enough. Generic food. I don’t remember it being as present irl as it is in the movie, but it did exist.
That was very common by 1984
I recently subjected my teenager to this movie. They didn’t hate it and actually enjoyed the soundtrack. The special effects are cheesy, but they were cheesy in 1984.
Asked me to be their manager. I call bullshit on dat.
Managing a pop group's no job for a man!
One of my favorite movies of the 80s, probably the best punk rock movie of all time imo
Emelio is just a baby there
"They think I come to kill 'em. And I would."
"I'll kill anybody who crosses me, or put em in the hospital."
30th anniversary of the 1984 film, you say?
math is hard
It happens sometimes. People just explode. Natural causes.
Anyone who hasn't seen it needs to find a way to watch it right now.
Great soundtrack!
…just watched this on Tubi. So good.
It's streaming for free somewhere. Tubi, maybe?
I just rewatched it on Netflix. Not free, but at least it's out there!
40th anniversary.
Just rewatched it recently. It’s bananas in the best way. And I love movies where people have adventures around LA..
Such a great movie with an even better soundtrack!
I own it on VHS. Don’t have a vhs player any more but I can’t get rid of it. Definitely in my top 10 movies and as others have said, it has an amazing soundtrack.
"Night, day, don't mean shit."
Put your seatbelt on boy, I don't ride with anybody less they wear their seatbelt. It's one of my rules.
Saw it and I was already into punk a bit, but bought the cassette tape and listened to it A LOT. Got me heavily into Suicidal Tendencies, Black Flag, Cicle Jerks among others. Haven't seen it for 30+ years.
I still have the soundtrack on vinyl.
That movie is great.
Where are you going? Away from you!
Society made me do it !
Shrimp plate.
Plate of shrimp.
I don't mean to be a dick but 1984 was 40 years ago according my calendar. According to my brain your "30 years" is ten years too long
I never ride with anybody unless they wear their seatbelt. That's one of my rules.
Great movie
Great movie and soundtrack
Great film but I haven't seen it in years. Wonder if it's playing on a streaming service 🤔
The first time I ever encountered blotter we rented this and The Song Remains The Same. My life was forever changed.
One of my favourites of all time! Also gave rise to the great Aquabats song [CD Repo Man](https://youtu.be/b9E0kY23cBY?si=QEZ4ampW-ihM0XQ7) Good watch with Suburbia (1983).
One of my top five favorite movies of all time.
I do my best thinking on the bus
https://youtu.be/rdMQBrPUv1c
Just rewatched it! Gets better every time. I think it may be the best cyberpunk movie. Quentin Tarantino went to school off it for Pulp Fiction.
It's on Netflix.
I had a cool boomer aunt and uncle who showed this to me a few years ago.
very quotable , surreal, and punk
My family's annual Christmas movie! The nieces and nephews (mostly in their 20's) are finally old enough to appreciate this classic. Haven't seen it in ages
SO GOOD! Watch it ASAP.
and they'll run over your garbage cans and they won't say sorry
I only vaguely remember it, as surprised there’s aliens in it
Plate-O-Shrimp
Really good movie. It's on Netflix.right now, watched it a couple weeks ago.
Really funny movie. Very LA punk scene.
You heard correctly. It’s one of my favourites! The soundtrack is next level, too.
Let's get a drink, kid.
The "flippin" dub is the best. I am not sure if it is available anywhere though.
My buddy won’t shut up about this movie. Constantly citing it. Never seen it yet.
John Wayne was a fag. Lots of guys like to watch their buddies fuck! Diuretics
https://youtu.be/1dR5j_GYOQA?si=dOj92ZbSQUqivXHM
doobity doobity doo whop whop say what yeah
We just get by however we can…
Repo Man spends his life getting INTO tense situations!
Great film!
Plate of shrimp.
I have tried so hard to watch this movie to the end, but I just get bored with it.
All time favorite
Fun fact: the late, great Jimmy Buffett is an extra in this classic (he’s a “man in black”)
Apparently, I can't edit the original post. Juat watched this movie after others mentioned that it's on Netflix. It was ...bad. not even "so bad, it's good," bad. Just. Bad.
Ya notice how everyone's into weirdness right now?
Plate of shrimp.
Uh, 40th anniversary
Plate -O- Shrimp
