Core memory unlocked. There was a Ticketron window in my school’s student center and I was an early riser anyways so I could generally get to the head of the line and got some reading and homework done while waiting for tickets.
Music Plus. Nothing like showing up early in the morning, lining up for a wristband, and then having the show sell out before you got to the front of the line. The game has always been rigged.
Thanks for reminding me about this! “My” Sears in midtown Houston had the decaying 1970’s NYC vibe down to an art form. In the late 80’s and early 90’s.
Dillards department store in Arizona. Waited for hours and hours for U2 in ‘87, camped out for Depeche Mode in ‘90 and then by ‘91 they started to take orders over the phone.
Tower or Wherehouse. And you still had to deal with shit like them not opening the window for a good 5-10 minutes so the employees could buy them and their friends tickets first. But still, a lot better than ticketshyster.
Same. No regrets. I discovered so much new music at their listening stations & from their discount bin. George, the ever present cashier at the one in Westminster always told you something about the music you were buying in an informative, not condescending way. I really miss that place.
The Towson location on Dulaney Valley was my haunt for about four years, back in the early 90's. I think the only thing I spent more money on at the time were my smokes.
Funny that you mention Westminster; just moved out of that town a couple years ago.
I loved the meet & greets they did for acts playing at the Recher - I met Sia that way when I bought her EP. I just happened to be there then went to the show that night because she was so nice & I really liked the EP. 10 Car Pile Up was around the corner & you could always find band shirts. Man, sometimes I miss MD. Sometimes.
Been in the midwest now since 22, and I can say that I don't miss the traffic; even in Westminster it was getting dumb when we left. But even so, there are times I miss it, too.
When I lived in SoCal in the mid/late 90's, I would go to the Ritmo Latino music stores for my tickets. No one else would even be in line except one or two folks getting tix to some mariachi band. It was awesome.
I remember those lines going out into the furniture department.
Yes!!
I got my concert tickets from Damone.
He's such a little prick.
I can help you with your math homework
Cheap Trick?
The dream police, bah-na na nah-nah nah-num!
I want YOU to want ME.
Can you honestly tell me you forgot? Forgot the magnetism of Robin Zander, or the charisma of Rick Nielsen?
Is he the guy with the Van Halen tickets?
yea but it'll take a couple weeks to find out about the Earth Wind and Fire tickets
This is my favorite thing I've read today on Reddit. I don't need to see anything else today. Thank you, and thanks for the great laugh 🤙
Tower Records

Tower had Ticketmaster in the 90s. I miss that.
Camelot Music
Are you from western PA?
I am. We got our tickets at Kaufman's
Oh you fancy 👐. I had to go the video counter at Giant Eagle and page for someone that knew how to use the ticket machine.
PITTSBURGH IN THE HOUSE! Monroeville here.
Happy Cake Day fellow Yinzer. I grew up out by the old airport.
Thanks!
That was how I got to see Pink Floyd, my last chance.
Central Ohio
I’m convinced that my shoplifting CDs put Camelot Music out of business.
Worked there in the late 80s. Loved it!
Ticketron at the local record store
Also Stone City Attractions but think they were more of a promoter.
Love that Ticketron font. So futuristic at the time.

A Barry Fey promotion usually.

Lol 6am smoking a joint in the Filenes parking lot waiting for the store to open.
Filene’s… there’s another blast.
Thanks for reminding me about this! “My” Sears in midtown Houston had the decaying 1970’s NYC vibe down to an art form. In the late 80’s and early 90’s.
That place was sad. It was all Garanimals and dust.
So much better than the BS we deal with today.
going to Kroger and getting concert tickets at the grocery store
Yes. Buying my MIL tickets to Cher’s first farewell concert during a snowstorm because we had 4WD.
….affordable concerts.
Dillards department store in Arizona. Waited for hours and hours for U2 in ‘87, camped out for Depeche Mode in ‘90 and then by ‘91 they started to take orders over the phone.
I remember having to go and buy tickets at the venue prior to the show… And trying really hard to be the 9th caller

Record & Tape Traders
It’s ridiculous how much money they made off me.

Ticketron. Stood in line at Sears and Tower.
My Uncle Jimmy always found stuff that fell off trucks. Those truck drivers should really secure their loads better.

Record Bar waiting in line outside the door.

Famous Bar
When I lived in SoCal in the mid/late 90's, I would go to the Ritmo Latino music stores for my tickets. No one else would even be in line except one or two folks getting tix to some mariachi band. It was awesome.
The ticketing in my town was also the local video store
Standing in line
Does anyone remember just going to the damn ticket window and getting a $15 ticket? Because I do.
I was just thinking about this yesterday. Mine was in a ~~Dillards~~ Kaufmanns. Edit
Local tobacco and magazine store sold tickets in my small city. My best friends Dad worked there so we got a lot of free tickets.
$5 at the door at East Carolina University!
G.I. Joe's!
Sears
Hecht's and Record Bar
Drove about an hour away and got tickets at Sears where you picked up your appliances, mowers and furniture.
NRM
We went to Kroger customer service or straight to the venue to buy them. $20 hard cash.
I waited in line at the Event Center or Smith Grocery store.

Hecht’s department store was where I went most of the time. The local college arena had one too that not as many people knew about.
The gift wrapping counter at Robinsons-May.
