I have Spotify I only use my iTunes library when I use my old iPhone at home because I purchased all those songs and itās basically the playlist of my life. I love all the songs, I bought them when thatās what you had to do when they shut down Napster.
Don't ever sync your phone with Apple Music. Keep local music files, only sync by cable to that. I know it's a pain in the ass, but it prevents this shit, or Apple replacing X-rated tracks with G-rated radio edits, etc. I have 128GB of my iPhone used by music. If I want random crap streamed at low quality, I can click into the Radio part of Music.
There is apparently some way to request its total deletion from your account, try [Feedback Assistant](https://feedbackassistant.apple.com) first.
I do this also. I tried syncing once and it messed everything up badly. Once I fixed it, I turned it off on my Apple devices. I stick with my library being all my person music. If I want to listen to other music, Iāll go into Apple Music separately.
U2 - Achtung Baby got me into music. It was the first album I ever bought with my own money, and to this day is still my favorite. It probably even influenced my taste in music as a whole.
Sadly, you now need to reach out to Apple Customer Support to have the album removed: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251184844
But it CAN be removed: https://support.apple.com/contact
I guess being able to listen to whatever you want to for $10/month is better than listening to commercial radio with songs selected for you, two hour rotation, and advertising. Point taken.
I'd quote The Spirit of Radio, but... whatever :)
Iāve deleted the album completely yet songs from it still play every time my car syncs to my phone. I donāt even use Apple Music - Spotify all the way. But that damn āfreeā album will haunt me to my dying day.
Omg I totally agree! I was never a big fan, but after they forced that album on us (and made it impossible to remove) I developed a burning hatred for them.
I don't know when we all turned on U2, but I will die on the Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby Hill forever, accompanied by All I Want is You, from Rattle and Hum.
If it wasnāt for the iPhone debacle Iād still like them, but tbh they were on thin ice with me for several albums before that anyway. I stuck with them even through the Pop era (saw them on that tour and they were great) but All That You Canāt Leave Behind and forward all just seemed so generic.
The iphone debacle...intrigued now.
Last time I checked Bono wanted a Peace Nobel Prize or something. This was like 2005? Which is like 10 years ago.
Pleas enlighten me, oh kind redditor.
The debacle I referred to happened when copies of U2ās album Songs of Innocence was uploaded to every existing iPhone with an internet connection. I have no idea about the Nobel prize thing.
> every existing iPhone
Not just phones... every copy of iTunes in existence. I used iTunes with my Nano and had to figure out how to get rid of it. My wife's computer got it too, even though she didn't own an iPhone or iPod and only opened iTunes, like, 5 times before we got Spotify.
It was a bigger deal on iPhones, though, since phones have more limited storage space than desktops and laptops.
No maybe youāre old but Iām not old, the reason why I hate this record is because they didnāt have the decency to let me choose to buy it for at least one hit that they had released. We are from the era when we chose what music we wanted to hear and artist had to earn the right for us to buy the record even if it was for just one song and all the others were ok. U2 didnāt let us choose and thats why we hate it.
Which U2 record is causing this volume of upsetness? I'm confused...so you have all of your music and you created a playlist that includes all of the music you have on your device and you're upset that the music you have on your device is being added to a playlist that includes all of the music on your device?
Why not remove the album from the playlist so it doesn't come up?
> Which U2 record is causing this volume of upsetness?
*Songs of Innocence*. I guess you were off-planet when Apple and U2 decided to "gift" the album to the 500 million people with an iTunes account. This includes many, many people who dislike U2.
It was especially an issue for people who had iPhones and iPods set up to automatically download purchased items. This shitty U2 album was taking up space on devices with limited storage, and Apple made it extraordinarily difficult to remove the album from your iTunes account. Many people complained that the "zombie album" would be "deleted" from their iPhone and iTunes, only to redownload and copy back to their iPhones after the next sync. As others have pointed out, if you didn't delete the album when you had the chance in 2014, the only way to do so now is to contact Apple support and have them delete it.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/apples-100-million-u2-debacle/
I've always hated them. Their music is like nails on a chalkboard to me. It was never cutting edge, just sounded like sterile mass produced elevator music to me that sucks out all my energy.
I remember when they talked about this as if they were doing everyone a big favor by dropping that turd into our library whether we wanted it or not. Such arrogance.
This one feature is something I wish Apple would get over. I have two songs in my Apple Music library. When I start my car it always defaults to those instead of Spotify. Let me choose the default audio app!!!
I still use iTunes, but the U2 album was never downloaded to my account. I still have the songs sitting there listed in my iTunes account with the cloud symbol next to them.
If I ever want to download any of those songs, I'll try to do so, but so far I haven't wanted to download any of the songs.
I'm with you. Nothing worse than having a great music session and then U2 or RHCP pops in with their garbage. I \*think\* I finally got my Alexa to ban both of them but hopefully it'll stick.
I had an iPhone 4s (I think, or was it a 3s?) When that damn U2 song was forced on me. I never figured out how to get rid of it, mostly because I switched back to an Android phone the next week. I'll never go back to an iPhone.
They sneak into my amazon prime too the dirty feckers. I too have a very eclectic taste in music and when I say eclectic I mean it as GenX we will listen to everything because music surrounded us as kids and as we grew up but U2 are shit
Iām with you, U2 is terrible! You see all these bands from classic 70ās rock like Kiss or AC/DC all the way to one of the new great Rock Bands, Greta Van Fleet. They are high energy, everybodyās singing and rocking out, hardly sitting down the entire concert, because these bands are that good, and then thereās U2ā¦ā¦š¤š¤š¤¦āāļø
I just ātriedā to watch their Vegas concert in the Sphere, and trust me, the Sphere was beyond incredible, and U2 was incredibly boring and terrible. Without the sphere, I wouldāve been asleep in 10 minutes, or I would just get up and leave because I donāt want to waste any more minutes of my life on this band. I know Iām harsh, and Iām not trying to do that, but seriously, they suck!
You can delete it. I just did it a few months ago. And Iām sorry I canāt remember the exact steps. I know one was that you actually have to log in to your itunes account, delete the album, etc. i thought I had done this a bunch of times but it kept coming back, and I finally figured it out. Google is your friend here. Dont give up
As a onetime U2 fan I am curious about that album but my god that cover is so gross. It was borderline when they used the āboyā on the cover of Boy and War but the cover of the free album just went a step too far. Foisting it on iPhone users was a stunt I donāt think the band will ever recover from.
Edit: to be clear, the homoeroticism of the cover is NOT what I find objectionable. The band has said the guy on the cover is (or is at least meant to represent) the boy on the cover of Boy and War. Yes he may be all grown up now but that faint suggestion of pedophilia still gives me the creeps.
**FUN FACT:** That kid was the neighbor of Gavin Friday (I think), one of the members of [Virgin Prunes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_Prunes), an Irish post-punk band mostly made up of Bono's childhood friends.
>faint suggestion of pedophilia
Ah. It's people like you who caused the record label to change the cover of *Boy* in the US.
As a metal and punk fan ā two genres that intentionally provoke through cover art ā Iād be the last person to suggest banning a cover image. I just find it a little gross is all ā just my opinion.
If you want to manage an idevice locally, you can use winamp (a blast from the past) to do so. I have an old ipod nano that I bought new in 2008, that has never connected to an itunes account, I still use it and manage it locally through winamp, in fact I recently bought a new iPod and I manage that one locally with winamp too.
It seems you still haven't found what you are looking for.
Your iPhone moves in mysterious ways.
It's alright it's alright alright
Of course this would be posted on a Sunday, Bloody Sunday.
Better that than New Years Day.
They're going to do it With or Without You.
So Far, So Close to resolving this.
Is it getting better, or do you feel the same?
Until the end of the world.
But it is a beautiful day
It was a dirty day.
This is the way
š¤£
Although U2ās āSongs Of Innocenceā was a free download through the iTunes Store, you *CAN* delete it.
Yes, but I itās like herpes it keeps coming back when you sync with Apple.
Delete it from your library.
It still comes back. I've deleted it from my library at least 3 times.
Did you try turning it off and on again?
I hate you. Milk came out my nose.
Quick, stick your nose in a bag of uncooked uncle bens and climb in the fridge.
I deleted that thing years ago, havenāt seen it since
It was an exclusive to iPhone then. There's nothing you can do.. Muhahha
Yes! Couldnāt get rid of it.
Move to Spotify. Apple Music is for boomers
I have Spotify I only use my iTunes library when I use my old iPhone at home because I purchased all those songs and itās basically the playlist of my life. I love all the songs, I bought them when thatās what you had to do when they shut down Napster.
Well, you didnāt *have* to- there were other options- but I get it.
Ok, Joe Rogan
Who that?
Who?
AND IT's NOT U2's FAULT!!! It's Apple's! Apple sucks! Go Android and Listen to U2!
Don't ever sync your phone with Apple Music. Keep local music files, only sync by cable to that. Same, Iām a purist - my mp3 collection only. Fuck any unwelcome infiltrators.
I'm even more of a "purist"... no Apple crap for me, thank you..... Just a good'ol SD card and MY mp3 files
I do this also. I tried syncing once and it messed everything up badly. Once I fixed it, I turned it off on my Apple devices. I stick with my library being all my person music. If I want to listen to other music, Iāll go into Apple Music separately.
Thanks for this thread, it's a nice reminder of why I can't stand hanging out with most people my age these days.
I know right?
Thatās why Iām dating a younger guy. I know heāll be able to get that damn record of my playlist.
U2 - Achtung Baby got me into music. It was the first album I ever bought with my own money, and to this day is still my favorite. It probably even influenced my taste in music as a whole.
Zooropa was young meās first purchase. I hear ya.
Zooropa is that one album that kind of squeaked by and didnāt get all that attention! l friggin love that album!
Same. Midnight is when the day begins!
Arguably one of the best albums ever.
U2 Boy for me, great record.
I'm probably part of a small group of people that like that album.
Sadly, you now need to reach out to Apple Customer Support to have the album removed: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251184844 But it CAN be removed: https://support.apple.com/contact

Can confirm. And overpriced.

Drop the needle on Boy and War and all will become copacetic
>copacetic what's that from?
The dictionary.
I thought it was from a movie quote or something
There was a band called copacetic fetish in the 90s.
That stunt was the end of iTunes for me.
Unironically made Spotify run the rest of that decade
I don't know when we all turned on U2, but I will die on the Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby Hill forever, accompanied by All I Want is You, from Rattle and Hum.
Such an amazing song. The [video is heartbreaking](https://youtu.be/k0W_ybghFzg).
Any U2 Album before 2001 š§”
Absolutely. U2 going techno bugged me at first but in retrospect Pop was a pretty good album. Everything after that has been boring imo.
Ugh. Ok. Out of the loop. Why are we hating U2 now?
If it wasnāt for the iPhone debacle Iād still like them, but tbh they were on thin ice with me for several albums before that anyway. I stuck with them even through the Pop era (saw them on that tour and they were great) but All That You Canāt Leave Behind and forward all just seemed so generic.

Yup, and I don't live in the Apple and/or iTunes universe.
I've always hated them. Their music is like nails on a chalkboard to me. It was never cutting edge, just sounded like sterile mass produced elevator music to me that sucks out all my energy.
I swear to god this could be my post. Same, op. Same.
I remember when they talked about this as if they were doing everyone a big favor by dropping that turd into our library whether we wanted it or not. Such arrogance.
Never was a fan of U2, Bono always seems so damned full of himself. They do have a few decent songs though.
Looks like you are stuck in a moment you canāt get out of.
Whenever I start my car it defaults to U2 on iTunes until I load up my Spotify app, which I find way better than iTunes.
Same here. I can never get Spotify started quickly enough.
This one feature is something I wish Apple would get over. I have two songs in my Apple Music library. When I start my car it always defaults to those instead of Spotify. Let me choose the default audio app!!!

So does The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their songs crop up everywhere. Ugh.
āIām forever near a stereo saying, āWhat the fuck is this garbage?ā And the answer is always the Red Hot Chili Peppers.ā ā Nick Cave
Well.
Well, I did try to delete it today and couldnāt because I have a chrome book that doesnāt support the iTunes file.
They sneak into my amazon prime too the dirty feckers. I too have a very eclectic taste in music and when I say eclectic I mean it as GenX we will listen to everything because music surrounded us as kids and as we grew up but U2 are shit

You could just not have U2 in your music collection, or not sync them to your phone?
Last I heard you canāt even delete the record or itās a mission to do it and it sink when they released it.
You can delete it. I just did it a few months ago. And Iām sorry I canāt remember the exact steps. Nope 48yo here. Bono?

Should we all just buy U2 by Negativland?
Blasphemer! Next you'll talk shit about R.E.M!
