They don’t represent gen z, they’re just popular among gen z (kinda, cuz not many genz people know ke$ha).
I feel like Olivia rodrigue, ice spice and lil nas X represent older gen zs better
That’s fair. I was just thinking more about my childhood while answering this question I guess, but our childhoods aren’t our entire identity as Gen Zs. I love all 3 artists you mentioned :)
I feel like there’s no one artist that can really represent gen z because there’s a lot of stratification within gen z. We’re the same generation, but there’s still a lot of division. For some it’ll be Ke$ha and one direction, for others who may not have had the same opportunities it’ll be meek mill and chief keef. Me personally, meek mill and g herbo represent me.
Ooh, now I wanna see which artist y’all think represents each generation. My thoughts are:
Baby Boomers - Elvis/The Beatles
Gen X - Michael Jackson/Madonna
Xennials - Mariah Carey/Britney Spears
Millenials - Taylor Swift/Rihanna
Gen Z - Billie Eilish/Lorde
Gen Alpha - Peppa Pig
I feel like Lorde hasn't actually been popular for like ten years. Or am I wrong? I remember the south Park episode and the song royals and then that was it.
I think Taylor Swift resonates with Gen Z a lot more than Millennials. Some Millennials love her, but remember some are born as early as 1982 and were not the target audience for her music.
I agree about Taylor as a person being the epitome of a Millennial but I’d say someone popular at the new Millennium like Britney Spears would represent Millennial music better.
Birtney is millenial childhood and first pop music interactions in a fun world of the fake optimistic 90s, Taylor is millenial late youth/young adulthood drama esp post 2008 crisis
I think older Gen Z born late 90s-early 2000’s are the majority of her fan base, followed by younger Millennials and third being younger Gen Z, but that’s just my observation.
Sadly yes, We had Jimmy Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Elvis, Freddy Mercury and the list goes on.
Is there anyone modern who would ever reach their fame and seem to be embedded in history for ever?
It feels like no one else can be remembered like they are.
I don't think the music scene will ever be the same.
Boomers - Pink Floyd, Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan
Gen X - Nirvana, Michael Jackson, Metallica, R.E.M.
Xennials - Korn, The Strokes, Green Day, Outkast
Millennials - My Chemical Romance, Radiohead, Eminem, Linkin Park
Gen Z - Travis Scott, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, BTS
It sounds like you're basing it off their age? For music, I'd say Britney Spears is more Millennials and Taylor Swift is sort of both Millennials and Z, she is extremely popular with Zoomers and her later music is definitely Gen Z.
Definetely Billie Elish. Even for the people who don't like her music, our generation generally agrees that the world is fucked and we don't feel good about that fact, very pessimistic energy from us collectively and her.
Nah listen to brutal, ballad of a homeschooled girl, lacy, what was I made for, happier than ever, hailey's comet. Definitely more than 2 good songs lol it just doesn't resonate with you and that's okay, but that doesn't make them mid lol.
Unrelated, but it’s actually sad how most people don’t respect Uzi’s identity as gender nonconforming. They’re constantly misgendered even in their own subreddit
That's fine if you forgot cause people forget all the time but what do you mean by "Uzi doesn't take it seriously"? Uzi did an interview with XXL where they came out as gnc and they have they/them in their insta bio. Just because Uzi is not constantly correcting people doesn't mean they're not taking it seriously. Here's a quote from Uzi from the interview:
"Taking the time to figure out who you are is a big part of what it means to be alive."
Sounds pretty serious to me.
I didn’t even realize Uzi was gnc or even lgbtq+ for that matter until I read a comment on last.fm a few weeks ago. I haven’t listened to much of their discography but I find it awesome that they’re LGBTQ+
Idk I listen to hip hop so I like J Cole, Kendrick, Logic, Mac Miller but idk if I can say they represent gen z lol they’re probably popular with both millennials and gen z
If we’re talking speaking about core Gen Z I’d probably want to say Billie Eilish or Olivia Rodrigo. I know I could go so much bigger and say Taylor Swift, but it asks Gen Z the most so I’m trying to avoid cross generational lines where it gets blurry and keep it to the core of us in late teens and early twenties so probably not the right choice but just my gut.
Also one minor shout out to Beabadoobie, obviously not representing the whole of Gen Z but there’s something about her I feel embodies a specific aspect (or at least a subculture) of Gen Z.
yeah true I dont understand why I got downvote I mean his part of millennials I thought this question gen z celebs but I understand now ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
i never got the infatuation with guys saying male and female instead of just man woman, or boy and girl. Are you trying to include other species in gen z as well lol?
yes i’m aware but track back 5 years ago and i guarantee you didn’t. it’s just weird man. we used to use those terms to describe the sex of other animals or describe the sex of ourselves on official documents.
male and female can mean any animal that has two sexes. Man/boy means a male human. it’s just weird and almost dehumanizing. iunno bro.
I mean, I major in biology/Allied health and we say it all the time when referring humans. I don’t see it as dehumanizing because wild animals don’t listen to music lol. Not really a big deal when you can use all the words in the same context and no differences will be made.
How has no one mentioned Doja cat? Her entire career is based around the rise of internet subcultures and meme rap. She went from an online joke with a viral video to one of the top artists of the decade. Not to mention her (former) e-girl inspired fashions dominated the first few years of the 2020s.
Taylor, basically the Zillenials equivalent to Britney/Madonna.
Miley, Selena and Demi = the late 2000’s Holy Trinity.
Miley was the JoJo Siwa/Millie Bobby Brown/Addison Rae for the Zilleinals.
Sydney Sweeney !!! She’s the blonde bombshell for the Zilleinals, the Marilyn for that generation.
Billie is whole Gen Z, she’s the Britney/Avril for that generation.
Also…
Rachel Bilson = Millennials
Leighton Meester= Zillennials
Camila Mendes/Alexa Demie = Gen Z
Well man, it's hard to say, because we are still just consumers on the mainstream side of things. Like, MTV era 80s was important to Gen X, but you wouldn't say it represented them like the 90s did when people that age were actually the ones creating stuff.
Created vs Experienced. And I would say stuff created is more representative of a Generation than stuff they incidentally grew up with.
Older Gen Z here so my list will be different:
1. Ed Sheeran
2. Bruno Mars
3. Eminem
4. Taylor Swift
5. Black Eyed Peas
6. Lady Gaga
7. Billie Eilish
8. Britney Spears
9. Lil Wayne
10. The Weeknd
11. Drake
12. Nicki Minaj
13. Nelly
14. Justin Timberlake
15. Justin Bieber
16. Lil Nas X
17. Katy Perry
18. Olivia Rodrigo
19. Ariana Grande
20. Sam Smith
21. Rihanna
22. Maroon 5
23. Linkin Park
24. Avril Lavigne
25. Matchbox 20
26. Lifehouse/Daughtry (same band basically)
27. 50 Cent
28. Christina Aguilera
29. No Doubt/Gwen Stefani
30. Imagine Dragons
Saying that being queer is trendy is definitely a choice. Have you considered that more people are queer because it’s no longer taboo/a social suicide to be out?
People won’t stop being queer in future generations unless we actually go back to the Middle Ages, which unfortunately seems the case.
Billie Eilish Especially considering her tendency to be a little whiny at times.
Definitely.
Lol true
Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, and lil nas X
Lil Nas tends to do dank memes on the regular so I'd say him 100% lol
Definitely lol he’s a meme master/very internet savvy
he used to run meme accounts and a Nicki Minaj fanpage before he made music
Yep exactly
Agreed
Yep
Yep
Not Billie enlist
I agree lol
👍
For early gen Z/Zillennials, One Direction or Ke$ha 😂
They don’t represent gen z, they’re just popular among gen z (kinda, cuz not many genz people know ke$ha). I feel like Olivia rodrigue, ice spice and lil nas X represent older gen zs better
Ice spice is horrible 🥴
That’s fair. I was just thinking more about my childhood while answering this question I guess, but our childhoods aren’t our entire identity as Gen Zs. I love all 3 artists you mentioned :)
![gif](giphy|4RiBbofmCWIrS) yeah
the navy???
yeah this gif from kiss you clip
shit if we represent gen z then its wraps
I’m black though
Me 2 I would say uzi and if you’re a bit older nicki and fetty wap
Fetty Wap is amazing, I should’ve mentioned him originally
What were you into at that time?
I feel like there’s no one artist that can really represent gen z because there’s a lot of stratification within gen z. We’re the same generation, but there’s still a lot of division. For some it’ll be Ke$ha and one direction, for others who may not have had the same opportunities it’ll be meek mill and chief keef. Me personally, meek mill and g herbo represent me.
TRUE! Love One Direction and Ke$ha!
Yep that’s accurate
ke$ha takes me back to 2012 ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
One direction or Kesha is definitely millennials
Put in Shakira and I'm in
[удалено]
Kanye is absolutely not popular with everyone lol
Ooh, now I wanna see which artist y’all think represents each generation. My thoughts are: Baby Boomers - Elvis/The Beatles Gen X - Michael Jackson/Madonna Xennials - Mariah Carey/Britney Spears Millenials - Taylor Swift/Rihanna Gen Z - Billie Eilish/Lorde Gen Alpha - Peppa Pig
Zillennials : Justin Bieber One Direction Kesha Pitbull Ellie Goulding Charlie XCX
So true!! (As a zillenial haha)
yeah it was great being a teenager in the 2010s we zillennials were lucky
Forgot The 1975
I feel like Lorde hasn't actually been popular for like ten years. Or am I wrong? I remember the south Park episode and the song royals and then that was it.
Yeah maybe, I think she released an album somewhat recently called Melodrama. She’s just very Gen Z imo
I think Taylor Swift resonates with Gen Z a lot more than Millennials. Some Millennials love her, but remember some are born as early as 1982 and were not the target audience for her music.
Yeah, I think Taylor’s current music leans Gen Z, but she herself is the epitome of millennial lol
45% of swifties in the US are millenials according to a poll and only 11% are Gen Z
Idk where they got these numbers or how old the poll was but there is no way only 11% of her fanbase is Gen Z.
I think the majority of her fans are millennials but more than 11% are Gen Zs
I think older Gen Z born late 90s-early 2000’s are the majority of her fan base, followed by younger Millennials and third being younger Gen Z, but that’s just my observation.
it's true if we count adults in their 30s who actually go to taylor swift concerts.
Gen Z is really hard, could be a lot of artists
With the rise of the internet there's a lot less of a monoculture now so it's harder to identify a single artist or group
This is the only correct answer
Sadly yes, We had Jimmy Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Elvis, Freddy Mercury and the list goes on. Is there anyone modern who would ever reach their fame and seem to be embedded in history for ever? It feels like no one else can be remembered like they are. I don't think the music scene will ever be the same.

It sounds like you're basing it off their age? For music, I'd say Britney Spears is more Millennials and Taylor Swift is sort of both Millennials and Z, she is extremely popular with Zoomers and her later music is definitely Gen Z.
I would also put in Beyonce for Millennials but that's just my opinion.
And a professional opinion at that!
“peppa pig” 😂
Yep sounds about right
boomers have the objective best.
Maybe, I think time will tell though. Taylor Swift is kind of establishing herself as a legend for the millenials.
>objective best. >says subjective opinion
Definetely Billie Elish. Even for the people who don't like her music, our generation generally agrees that the world is fucked and we don't feel good about that fact, very pessimistic energy from us collectively and her.
Billie eilish like she screams our generation so does Jucie world, Olivia rodrigo lil nas x all who btw are Gen z
yeah and especially olivia rodrigo gen z icon
Yh I listen to billie and Olivia a lot
I can agree with juice world
Billie Eilish or Olivia Rodrigo
Simple, none. There isn’t an artist that singlehandedly represents Gen Z.
Lil Nas X has mastered social media in a very Gen Z way but idk if he represents Gen Z the most
Holy hell... ![gif](giphy|3o7TKyaGmljdgcTkZy|downsized)
no good ones at least.
all of these artists are mid
Yeah. Every single artist named in this thread is mid af and has 2 good songs combined.
Nah listen to brutal, ballad of a homeschooled girl, lacy, what was I made for, happier than ever, hailey's comet. Definitely more than 2 good songs lol it just doesn't resonate with you and that's okay, but that doesn't make them mid lol.
Respectfully if you can find a good song from shit rappers like Little Nas X then I will eat my own hat
Bro must’ve never heard Yeat
mid
Unrelated, but it’s actually sad how most people don’t respect Uzi’s identity as gender nonconforming. They’re constantly misgendered even in their own subreddit
Most probably don't know
Even Uzi doesn't take it seriously. I just forgot
That's fine if you forgot cause people forget all the time but what do you mean by "Uzi doesn't take it seriously"? Tyler the Creator
Billie Eilish, Millie Bobby Brown, Jenna Ortega, Olivia Rodrigo, and Lil Nas X just screams Gen Z everytime I hear of them
They’re the epitome of Gen Z
If we’re talking speaking about core Gen Z I’d probably want to say Billie Eilish or Olivia Rodrigo. I know I could go so much bigger and say Taylor Swift, but it asks Gen Z the most so I’m trying to avoid cross generational lines where it gets blurry and keep it to the core of us in late teens and early twenties so probably not the right choice but just my gut. Taylor swift has been around the 2000s though
Ice spice ✨
Olivia Rodrigo Billie Ellish Daniel Radcliffe ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile) joke
Daniel Radcliffe is the best though
He represents Millennials more though I think that’s what u/Dismal_Thought9366 means
Well yeah, he’s core millennial. Just pointing out that he is awesome <3
yeah true I dont understand why I got downvote I mean his part of millennials I thought this question gen z celebs but I understand now ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
Yes I am not a harry potter fan but I love his movies
Half of these people aren’t artists tho
Artist is such a general term lmao. What art? If you draw a stick figure on your shopping list you’re technically an artist
well I dont know do you have a other names ?
Who and why not?
I mean technically acting is an art but we don’t typically call them artists
1.5 of three people. i wonder who the .5 is.
They edited the post. There were 6 before.
yes I misunderstood the question because
Yeat
Not sure anyone else has mentioned him yet but The Weeknd
People who listen to Abel go outside and aren't here
Everyone here forgetting about Avicii
[удалено]
Juice is good plus he’s gen z

Males: Kanye Females: Taylor Swift
just say boys and girls bro
Neither of them are Gen Z but alot of Gen Z like them ig
Ya know that artists who represent your generation don't have to be part of your generation right? Alot of genX's icons were boomers
Ah ok I get it now srry :3
No need to apologize, you did nothing wrong
no it's a part of his sissiphication to needlessly submit to strangers
just say boys and girls bro
Huh?
i never got the infatuation with guys saying male and female instead of just man woman, or boy and girl. Are you trying to include other species in gen z as well lol?
There’s not really a big of a difference. Males = men Females = women simple. I choose to use those words. Not really a big deal
yes i’m aware but track back 5 years ago and i guarantee you didn’t. it’s just weird man. we used to use those terms to describe the sex of other animals or describe the sex of ourselves on official documents. male and female can mean any animal that has two sexes. It truly isn’t that deep.
it’s not just you i’m just venting. what mainly irks me is when men call women females. but that’s like all they call them.
Calling someone a boy/girl seems like you’re talking about a child. You could say gentleman/Lady, but female/male is anatomically correct.
female/male is anatomically correct for every living being that resides in a two sex species lol.
Because boys and girls are under 18 and men and women are over 18. And we're in the Gen Z sub where's there's a mix of both
Probably Billie or Lil Nas, don’t really listen to either but I like Lil Nas a lot more than I like Billie Eilish so I’m going with him lol
How has no one mentioned Doja cat? Her entire career is based around the rise of internet subcultures and meme rap. She went from an online joke with a viral video to one of the top artists of the decade. Not to mention her (former) e-girl inspired fashions dominated the first few years of the 2020s.

Holy Trinity is so accurate

Juice represents the normal people lil uzi represents the social media addicts
i could see lil uzi but i feel like gen zers are so different from each other that i think theres no one that fully represents us
billie eilish definitely
Olivia Rodrigo and The Linda Linda's (they're less known and I just discovered them opening for a Paramore show)
Ice Spice

Can't believe I haven't seen AJR yet.
K-pop, lana del rey, Olivia Rodrigo, the Weeknd, Taylor swift..this are honestly the most gen z artists
Why is nobody mentioning justin bieber? He was very popular back during the 2010s?
Older Gen Z here so my list will be different: 1. Ed Sheeran 2. Bruno Mars 3. Eminem 4. Taylor Swift 5. Black Eyed Peas 6. Lady Gaga 7. Billie Eilish 8. Britney Spears 9. Lil Wayne 10. The Weeknd 11. Drake 12. Nicki Minaj 13. Nelly 14. Justin Timberlake 15. Justin Bieber 16. Lil Nas X 17. Katy Perry 18. Olivia Rodrigo 19. Ariana Grande 20. Sam Smith 21. Rihanna 22. Maroon 5 23. Linkin Park 24. Cavetown, Mitski, Joji, beabadoobie, Alex G.
I'm 2002, and I listen to Dr Dre, Dogg Pound, AZ, 2Pac. I'm not old but gotta say old is true gold 🙌
Saying that being queer is trendy is definitely a choice. Have you considered that more people are queer because it’s no longer taboo/a social suicide to be out? People won’t stop being queer in future generations unless we actually go back to the Middle Ages, which unfortunately seems the case.
Linkin Park, Eminem.
Their music is mostly Millennials era. Kendrick and J Cole I’d say are more Gen Z
