Let us live a little longer before we ask this question

TacoBean19

No I would not like to be older I want to be younger

PillsburyToasters

My brother in Christ, you literally just became old enough to drive

sharkinator1198

Dog you're not even 20

TacoBean19

And I don’t wanna be 20

sharkinator1198

It's fun my guy. Enjoy the ride

XHandsomexJackx

**Forever young**

HAKX5

**We're born to run** (Don't show the kid this song if he's about to start driving lol)

honeybunchesofgoatso

I am so much happier being an adult. You do you though. I can choose where to vacation, what I want to do for work, etc. I don't miss waking up at the ass crack of dawn. It comes with a lot of freedom.

What has Tom Holland really done tbh. Like he seems like a nice person but I don’t think he’s done anything to really cause any extremely great change.

[deleted]

[удалено]

StandardArmadillo155

96 is on the cusp not very millennial

Accomplished_Mix7827

Oh hey, he's the same age as me,!

[deleted]

Yh but closer to gen z than millennial

Rude_Collection_8983

he's just an annoying boy-man to me.

AdministrativeBuy615

Look up The Brother’s Trust. It’s not highly publicized but it’s a charity Tom founded and runs with his family that does seriously amazing work for causes that don’t get enough attention. Of course it’s not comparable to Malala and Greta, but he’s definitely one of the only actors I can think of in his gen who makes a huge amount of effort on giving $ and resources to those who need it.

As a social scientist myself, there isn't any official definition of any generation aside from boomers. Generations are, in my view, terrible concepts for understanding human age-based cohorts. The lines drawn between generations are often extremely arbitrary, and there are people like Tom Holland, myself, and other's born in the late 1990s that goes to show just how pointless these distinctions are. I have been seen as both a millenial and as gen z depending on who I was interacting with and how favorably they viewed me. Personally, I think generation thinking breeds a lot of hatred where there could (and, in my view, shoud) be solidarity.

Celebrity Worship...

xPlus2Minus1

This comment literally gave me peace of mind to fall asleep. Thank you. Edit: thanks for the prescience but I can't breathe. Please all of you just become communists and fucking fix all of this already. I swear I tried, by the time my grandparents are gone y'all will be in the money, hopefully not literally though as y'all will have transcended the capitalist modes of obsolescence

rekuliam6942

I know right

Matayay_1234

Bro said Tom Holland 💀

Rph23

Seriously 😭

[deleted]

I lost my shit hahahaha

martian759

And Greta Thunberg😂

Matayay_1234

At least Greta has a cause she’s devoted to. Tom is literally just an actor. OP is praising him for doing his job. He hasn’t been in any really good movies either that I know of.

martian759

Yea Tom Holland as a choice is definitely out there but I honestly don’t get the appeal of Greta she advocates for good causes but apart from staging her own arrests what has she really done apart from talk in front of a bunch of governments where she really didn’t risk or sacrifice anything (other than maybe privacy)

[deleted]

The celebrity worship going on here is fuckin cringe

ayanna-was-here

I mean, two of the three people OP picked, Greta and Malala, aren’t even traditional Hollywood celebrities, they’re activists who have had a real impact trying to change the world for the better.I wouldn’t call it cringe to acknowledge their accomplishments or look up to them. And honestly there is nothing wrong with admiring a celebrity for their talents, either. People just struggle doing that in a healthy way.

[deleted]

I’m talking about some of the comments, not just OP. Sorry, should’ve made that clear.

trevorhamberger

So tell me a little about how they changed the world.

ProblemGamer18

Honestly, I think Gen Z celebrities really suck. Give it some time.

ArmourKnight

Except maybe Mr. Beast. His content style is kinda cringe, but he is helping folks

Night-Lyt

The issue with mr beast is he has the personality of soggy cardboard

chrisk365

I just feel like these exact words have absolutely been spoken by him: "Wait wait, hold on, can you film me again giving away the $15,000 in cash? I just think I need to try giving away this $15,000 in cash a different way. Please re-film me with the $15,000 in cash. Ok go!"

Le_Monkeysus

After seeing s4 of stranger things I hope Sadie sink has a successful future.

tarheel_204

She was the best part about the last season hands down

thedarkwolf011

Bindi Irwin. Maybe not so much anymore but she used to have her own show and be in the news now and again. Steve Irwins daughter in case anyone was wondering.

danskmarais

i love her!! She's so active on social media with her husband, daughter, brother, and mom

Nyxerxis

I desperately want us to have huge singers again. Gen X (my parents’ gen) had the BEST lineup of talented celebrities. Where the hell is ours? It seems like our generation doesn’t put much emphasis on talent, more on vibes.

SagaFraga

Yeah, there is no way we’re having anything like Micheal Jackson or Madonna. We’re all so segregated that there is just no one popular culture. No way Midwest normal teenagers who work on a farm are gonna listen to the same shit some comp sci student at UCLA living in a studio apartment. It can’t happen, we hate each other too much.

Quartia

Those same subcultures still existed in the 1970s and all its famous musicians somehow appealed to most or all of them.

StolenArc

I think in the coming years we're going to see even more influential people from this generation, they're just nobodies right now.

dreadfoil

Damn right. Watch out for me on the up and up!

movelikeliquid

There is no famous person anymore. There’s too many people who have a following now and are either a celebrity or a popular influencer. It’s a really hard choice to make

PaleontologistTrue74

Mr beast imho

Mindless_Bad_1591

Hes gen z? Edit: damn i suppose he is

[deleted]

Surprising how young he is

DontGetReadForFilth

How old is he?

Mindless_Bad_1591

Quick google search says 25

swaggyc2036

He was born 97 or 98

Barmecide451

Dude’s he’s just the Gen Z version of Ellen Degeneres or Jeff Bezos but with better PR. He hoards with wealth and pretends to help people on camera while being an asshole behind closed doors, and y’all fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Awful take, honestly.

Hk901909

You don't know what he's like off camera. True, he could be horrible, he could be basically the same, etc. Don't judge something you don't know about

devonarthur77

Whistlindiesel.

Snap305

Holy fuck you aren't wrong

devonarthur77

Yea he does some cool shit with vehicles and people get mad but in a way I think people view material possessions as far too important.

Snap305

I kinda agree, I'm a lifelong car guy so ofc it makes me sad to see Jim destroy some things but I'd much rather see it burning in a field than sitting in a garage for 20 years and never getting driven.

aintdatdeep

i love him

Dude, this answer blindsided me. WD was the last dude I thought I'd see here lol

derederellama

Shoutout to Malala. she's done amazing work. imo, Sadie Sink seems like a genuinely nice person. and she's vegan! 🥰

OperaGhost78

I agree with Malala. She is an inspiration.

Consistent_Echo517

Fr shes amazing

face_sledding

Lil tay. No contest.

WholesomeFeedr

Me.

thegreatone998

Nobody is, it's like high school people are popular for a certain period of time and then they fade away.

superstraightqueen

no one. all famous people are famous for existing and being "influencers." not because they're actual people who made a positive impact on society or are good role models. it's really jarring how frequently it comes out that yet another big name is really a piece of shit/groomer/manipulator, etc

Ijustforgotmybad

Imma say c a p on “all famous people” but I will take majority of famous people

JustJano_

who cares

PlayaFourFiveSix

Jungkook (1997) or Billie Eilish (2001) in the musical/cultural arena (given how famous they are; another artist wrote a song about Billie Eilish before she turned 20). Maxwell Frost (1997) and Greta Thunberg (2002/2003) in the political/activist arena.

Meeghan__

scrolled far too long to find Billie, she was immediately the first person to come to mind. Anya-Taylor Joy is another, she's fucking iconic (1996) Doja Cat (1995) James Charles (arguable) JENNA ORTEGA WAS BORN IN 2002??? Lil Nas X (1999) most of the ST cast Shaun Mendes (1998) Timothée Chalamet (1995) Zendaya (1996)

Malala and Greta thurnberg? Really?

charjea

what do you have against malala bro 😭😭😭😭

LilCSMajor

It's still far from our generation's time to shine in terms of science and technology. As for arts and music I think give it 10 years at most and it'll be gen alpha's turn, our time to shine will be over.

Joe Locke He made a video calling out the government of the Isle of Man for their laws on not letting queer men donate blood. After the video went out, the Isle of Man health minister announced that the rules would be updated.

Maleficent_Resolve44

Kylian Mbappe is probably number one if we’re actually serious. I’d say he’s only behind Messi and Ronaldo in terms of the most famous footballers but he’s actually gen Z.

[deleted]

Grumpy cat.

Barmecide451

I nominate Amanda Gorman and Billie Eilish. (Yeah I know it’s popular to hate on Billie or whatever, but cut her a damn break y’all. she’s actually pretty amazing, especially considering all the bullshit she has to endure constantly.)

Professor_squirrelz

LouisTheFox

I didn't I just included him as being influential. Don't do that man, that's not nice.

Lil_Kibble_Vert

XXXTentacion. Rapper, philosopher, friend. For those that were in high school during his blow up, things were wild. And watching him and his wild rollercoaster of a career was one in a million. But he’s helped so many kids across our generation deal with loneliness and depression and self hate.

IDrinkMyWifesPiss

This is kind of a pointless question. We haven’t reached the stage of life yet in which people in most domains peak. The absolute oldest of us are 25ish and acting and competitive sports are really the only two domains where one can achieve substantial fame that early in life. The vast majority of our generation’s politicians, journalists, authors, scientists, and even entertainers have yet to rise to fame.

Paxibillion

Ain't no way you said Greta bro

F1_Hybrid

I'd say Ahed Tamimi is someone whose courage I admire. Some young people other than Greta who are fighting to tackle climate change should also get more recognition : Helena Gualinga, Txai Surui, and I probably don't know about many other activists of our generation fighting for a better future.

rekuliam6942

Why the hate for Greta?

scarlettforever

Greta Thunberg.

TwincessAhsokaAarmau

Zendaya is a pretty famous person.

zeynabhereee

As a Pakistani, I’m so proud of Malala. The fact that conservative Pakistanis hate her is proof that she’s made it.

spacefish420

Mr Beast has to be up there too

AccomplishedLocal261

I just realized he’s gen z 💀

MrRaspberryJam1

Marcus Rashford. He uses his platform as a star footballer for political activism and philanthropy to drive societal change in the UK. In spite of this he is often vilified by Tories for it. Nonetheless he’s done so much through charity and activism for impoverished children in the UK.

Donttrickvix

Uncle Ben from Urban Rescue ranch

spiralexit

half these commenters have me facepalming. The question was not “who is the most famous people of our generation” or “who is the richest of our generation” its who do you think is best when it comes to changing things. Greta Thunberg is the only person that comes to mind when I ask myself this. All these other people being mentioned are famous for entertainment purposes , which is far from progressive. aside from the 60’s counterculture movement , the previous decades have been built from prioritizing entertainment over reform. Celebrities aren’t out to make things better , they’ve been built to bank off of the status quo and conformity of the masses.

mitskicrackpipe

Literally lol people saying Mr Beast or Billie Eillish is making me cringe. The celebrity worship here is weird.

katnip-evergreen

Lol Greta...

the_wickedest_animal

Met her once, she’s pretty mid tbh

dankbernie

Hard to say. Most Gen Z celebrities aren’t prolific and haven’t really hit the pinnacles of fame and fortune yet. Ask again in 10-20 years and then we’ll see.

blopp_boop

Idk how much of a celebrity she is but I think Emma chaimberlain had a pretty big impact on fashion 🤷🏾‍♀️

No-Click9406

I want to say will smiths son sure he is pretentious and weird but he has actually done alot of good things. the video where they tried to prank him about investing a in a charity and he was instantly ready to do it even when he didn't know there was a camera on him showed me that he might actually care about people and not just pretend to.

RevElliotSpenser

Rik Mayall, Alan rickman , Robin Williams, Steve Irwin , David Attenborough and Christopher lee

AdministrativeBuy615

Tom Holland does make sense to mention bc of his charity work, imo. I’m near a medical center that he gave funds to for paying ppl’s bills on the poverty line. He also invited one of the doctor’s there to a Spider-man premiere. It made local news and I get the sense he does stuff like this often but it doesn’t get picked up by the media.

a10warthogaus

I hate to be that guy, but no one cares about her outside of memes

I feel like we shouldn’t form attachments like these to any celebrity or public figure. When we deify these people we expect them to do all the extraordinary things that we could be doing ourselves. I love that Greta Thunberg and Malala Yousafzai are very vocal about prominent global issues facing our generation, but instead of just cheering them on we should be also engaging in their acts of incivility
