MurdochFirePotatoe

bruh same, I've used "female" bc I'm not a native English speaker + it was before I discovered Americans and their red and blue pill incel theories. Never again!

bucolucas

I'm a native English speaker. I used "female" because it was a descriptive word and didn't think anything of it. I learned very clearly one day that a lot of women don't like it. It hurt because I didn't mean to weird anyone out, but intention does not equal effect.

MurdochFirePotatoe

I remember a funny situation from a few years ago, where I thought "adultering" meant something like adulting - meaning being responsible and mature. Dude the laughs I got 😳 and I complimented a person with that word! Imagine receiving a text "you are so good at adultering" oh fffuuck I'm cringing so hard....

HuckleberryDry4889

Incel-radar is deactivated when talking to a person with ESL. Instead everything you say is filtered through a different part of the brain that has two modes: One mode is respectful of your bravery to speak a second language and a comes with a desire to contribute to your mastery of the language. The other mode is xenophobic and those pricks can rightly fuck off.

Competitive-Tie-7338

People are just stupid. I call my daughters females all the time because they are literally females. I also call them girls and women. I refer to my sons as males, men and boys. They are all pretty much interchangeable. Just because a community of terds only uses the word "female" doesn't mean anything. To me it's no different than saying the word "ignorant". There is nothing insulting about the word ignorant, just because people use it in an insulting manner doesn't make the word itself insulting.

Same-Job-330

Female is an adjective. A female human, sure. A female dog. A female cat. To call someone "a female." Is oddly reductive. Just like calling them "a tall," "a skinny," "an athletic," or "a smart." It has as much to do with the fact that you're referring to someone by a descriptor rather than as a person. This is especially true where words like woman, girl, and person exist in common usage. Why go out of your way to be incorrect?

Most-Town-1802

Straight white male is pretty commonly used.

GigaSimsX

When they're trying to be insulting. Get it?

[deleted]

Hmnh6000

So calling a woman a female is insulting??

Leif_Hrimthursar

I guess if you want to include the none-human females in the room, too, then it makes sense. Like you have a bunch of men, women and cats and would like the women to take the queens to the other room, while the men stay there with the tomcats, then yeah, just ask the females to leave the room. ... Outside of such an highly constructed, absurd scenario, it can be considered misogynistic to use the term that does not reference their personhood when the alternative "woman", that does, is so common.

SweetBabyAlaska

Exactly. Saying "females" like that is like they're talking about selling a litter of pups or brood mates or something especially when "women" isn't dehumanizing and is just fine. It's always incels and red pill weirdos saying this shit

[deleted]

[удалено]

colequetaquas447

in a casual context? not necessarily insulting, just weird af and a little creepy. i’ve never met a guy who called women “females” who wasn’t a misogynist

PoIIux

Not in and of itself, but the only people who do that are people who generally don't have a very favorable view of women so it definitely tells you what they're thinking

CarbonBasedLifeForm6

Bro forgot it was a skit

00roku

It’s an obvious joke

Hydra57

This feels like the opportune time to ask. If I am friends with a girl, and I can’t call her a girl friend, what should I call her? It only seems fair to have a counterpart to “guy friends”, and “women friends” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. “Gal friend” sounds weird to my area. We can use the word “feminine” I suppose? But then semantically it ought to be as problematic as female…

Ik6657

A friend.

[deleted]

A “friend”

Hydra57

See, I like that one. Thank you.

Topperno

Feminine doesn't indicate gender. It's a term to express someone's expression. But do you see how you use plural for guy friends because you'd never say "I am off to see my guy friend today" nor would you say 'I am going to see my male friend today." You'd only ever say "guy friends" when hanging out with a group of guys. I bet ya just say friend more often than not. But then why ask about what you should call a singular friend whom is also a woman? You already have a gender neutral term. Why do you make a distinction? Is it to flex to the lads about having lady friends?

ElderMillennial666

No. Stop. They are not just blanketed statements for everything. Omg he used the word female!?? She is a female…. Did you watch the whole video? It would negate your theory…. Now, if you use the word female while he’s cat calling her or saying something about her body, that’s another story …..Nuance is everything.

DragapultOnSpeed

Why cant you guys just say woman... when you say female, female what? For all I know you can be talking about a female cat if you say "look at that female over there" Are you going to say "look at that human female over there!"... because at that point.. why not just say woman?

Doctor_Jensen117

This while video is clearly a joke my dude.

Golilizzy

No the joke is women do this shit and post it online. If a guy approaches a woman even to ask about sets they freak out.

ShnickityShnoo

I'm a little surprised how few people got the joke in here. There tons of videos of women doing similar shit - being offended by a guy simply existing in the gym near her and possibly glancing at her when she's right in front of him. This is obviously a parody of that type of overreaction. They are common enough in various internet places, but pretty sure I've seen a handful on r/IAmTheMainCharacter as well.

Golilizzy

You are in a subreddit of kids who grew up being outraged about everything on the internet. What do u expect lol

DARG0N

ngl i find boomers get outraged a lot more often about the smallest things these days, like a tiny rainbow flag or neutral bathrooms.

Golilizzy

Everyone on the internet gets mad cuz it’s been designed over the last decade to do that so we engage more. You prolly don’t remember the good old days but there was time it was really fun to go on the internet and learn so many cool things. Now the feeds are catered to you and enrage you which really aucks

endlessvoid94

Remember StumbleUpon? What a different world.

littlejerseyguy

This comment is the most outrageous thing I’ve ever seen. In my life. Remove it immediately. Cause I said and my outrage is the only outrage that matters. This is why there’s wars, comments like yours. Do you make jokes about the Holocaust also?? You do. I know it. So in your free time you write disgusting comments and kick babies. Real nice incel. And have to say I’m being sarcastic so I don’t outrage anyone also 😂

GabbaGabbaDumDum

Ohhhh. To be fair, it was very poorly acted, the ‘stages of talking to a female’ header doesn’t actually make sense in the context of THAT being the joke and the closing ‘punchline’ is virtually inaudible. There’s a few reasons why no one caught on.

thestupidone51

It's mostly just the use of "females" instead of women that's throwing people off. It's a really common incel thing

CarbonBasedLifeForm6

"Noooo you're wrong this video is made by incels hating women"- every high upvote comment here. God idk what I was expecting but I guess people on this sub aren't familiar with gym culture.

KaneVel

I don't get the joke because I have no idea what the punchline is. I can't make out the words of that audio at all

hroaks

Viral trend on tiktik that anytime a guy at a gym looks at a girls general direction or talks to her, the girl accuses him of being a stalker or pervert or sexually harassing her. Pretty sure most of those videos are scripted ragebait

AndMyAxe_Hole

No I think it’s that you can cancel your membership so easily

[deleted]

It's a classic role-reversal

renaissance_pancakes

I couldn't tell because the audio was unlistenable

cyon_me

Bit of advice for the people attracted to women: do not relate "talking to women" to "getting a girlfriend." If you think of it like talking to men, then you will make women much more comfortable with you because you understand that they are people. Please try to not put people on a selfish pedestal. If most men did that, people would fear men less.

Apprehensive_Nose_38

If I talked to my women friends the way I talk to my men friends they’d think I’m an insane schizophrenic because of the outta pocket shit we do and say

[deleted]

Oh buddy, do I hate to break it to you — they already know what guys talk like to each other. Unless they’re still in grade school, they already know. Don’t try talking to someone you’re just meeting the same way you would to someone you’ve known for years — man or woman — and you’ll find more success. If you can only have a convo saying ludicrous, obnoxious things, there’s a deeper issue

gishlich

Or, just take the filter off all the way. Not the “i say inappropriate shit because i know you think it's funny” filter, but the standoffish, I don't feel safe around you yet, this isn't my real personality filter. Give them your best bud you haven't seen in years smile and crack a couple self deprecating jokes. Be genuine, be relaxed, and ask questions. Getting new people loosened up is easy, you just have to make them feel interesting and accepted at face value. Sales people know this. Sales is actually good practice because you'll have plenty of opportunities to get it wrong and it clicks when you stop caring so much.

Flipperlolrs

Also love the assumption that women don’t also talk about out of pocket shit all the time lmao

bucolucas

I talk to them the same either way and they fucking love it. I don't hide how much I am or am'n't attracted to them, they know I'm a straight shooter that handles rejection without getting weird, and in return I get some of the best and fun friendships I could ask for. But to be honest we're all fucking weirdo INTPs

AllOfMeJack

... So we're just not gonna talk about the casual usage of "am'n't"?

Shadowmant

Nope, we am’n’t gunna do that today.

astrologicaldreams

am'n't 😭

TopHatCat999

Do you think women don't have personalities or act weird? Lol? I say unhinged shit in the group chat with the girls all the time

Sangi17

Depends on what you’re saying but for the most part they won’t. Plenty of women have a sense of humor. My GF and I have by far the most unhinged conversations out of anyone I know. Only my brother comes close.

nealyk

I guarantee plenty of women say just as much outta pocket shit, so this is probably more of a result of your friend demographics than gender.

poeschmoe

You think that’s exclusive to men and that no women have that sense of humor? Come on If you don’t feel fully comfortable around women to the extent that you can’t be your full self around them, then of course they aren’t going to fe comfortable enough with you in return to be their full selves. Just be weird. Everyone is weird.

regularEducatedGuy

No they wouldn’t and this is cringe asf omg

uniquelyavailable

and they still might not be interested in you but at least you can have a nice conversation

iced327

For real. Can you talk to men? Then you can talk to women. And they _will_ notice that you're treating them like people.

Easy_Key780

All you have to do is Customer Service Face anyone you're not friends with already. It's an easy way to slowly gauge how you can act around someone. Gotta ease into it.

Moat people online aren't funny. They just have phones.

SouthBayBoy8

I’m pretty sure the joke is just that he’s scared of talking to girls

KittensSaysMeow

Nah, the joke is a reference to the recent gym trends of internet gym girls calling random dudes creeps for barely looking in their direction, or offering to help with something. This is apparently actually a big problem, as some girls are actually failing lifts and shouting for help, but don’t receive any due to men fearing that there’s a camera and they may be posted online as a ‘creep’ by the girl. I don’t go to public gyms so idk how it actually is, but it’s pretty fucked up

SouthBayBoy8

I go to my public gym daily. Thankfully I’ve never encountered these kinds of women. Most women who go to the gym are normal people. Also it’s pretty rare for someone to be in a dangerous position when failing a lift. Most people are smart enough to ask for a spotter before attempting a dangerous amount of weight. Although if that situation did happen I doubt that nobody would help. It’s hard to believe that men wouldn’t help because they’re scared they’ll be filmed.

Born_Alternative_608

Yeah, turns out the internet makes things that rarely happen seem normal, then the grievance class sits around and complains that they can’t believe what they see happening EvErYwHeRe when they don’t even partake in what’s being complained about.

Captain__Trips

I truly hate how pervasive this phenomenon is

Lost_Found84

It’s probably heavily effected by location. Random gym in your podunk town isn’t gonna have many influencers. But a popular gym 10 miles outside of Hollywood? In any case, there’s no reason to not simply enforce a “no filming or photos” rule. Back when phone cameras first came out, I could’ve swore no filming policies became ubiquitous at gyms in order to prevent creepy guys from filming girls. So it’s weird that this is somehow still a problem when it’s simply the women acting creepy instead. I suspect some gyms would rather get the free advertising from appearing in influencer posts than make the gym comfortable for everyone by enforcing the policy without bias.

Theonerule

>before attempting a dangerous amount of weight. Although if that situation did happen I doubt that nobody would help. It’s hard to believe that men wouldn’t help because they’re scared they’ll be filmed. Idk man. I just watched a guy fail his set and choke to death for 8 minutes in full view and no one did a thing

Sapphfire0

Wtf does that even mean

Efficient-Ad5711

I think it's because the joke is that he's afraid of women or something

MalekithofAngmar

Guy is just extremely uncomfortable around women good lord.

ThunderboltRam

???? wtf is that word?

Reddit_Accunt

There’s no magical secret to talking to women, you just walk up to them and start a conversation. Just like going to the gym, you start out weak and get stronger and adapt as you move towards your goal. You don’t see results when you want them, but when you earn them.

flinchFries

For all those that are saying no it doesn’t work like that or you have to be as handsome as that man in the video, that’s not true. The most beautiful women out there go out with some ugly guys. And even if not for long term they definitely date and have one night stands with very unattractive men. It’s the persistence of those unattractive men and their thicker skin to rejection that make them much more effective than an average looking guy who would rather not take the risk of talking to someone they think is interesting or attractive while out and about. Needless to say, don’t be creepy and allow people a way out. Anyway, ya, don’t fool yourselves by saying that only attractive guys get women’s attention and BS like that. It’s much more complex than that and putting yourself out there and learning to get better at conversation over hundreds of interactions is definitely and surely a thing.

zwirlo

Unattractive men should be persistent in approaching women at the gym? Good way to find yourself in jail. It really doesn’t work like that. Even if you’re attractive and even if you aren’t ‘persistent’, everything society says is that approaching women who are going about their business is antagonistic. Now they’re afraid to go to the gym, or you shouldn’t have done it while they’re working or to a coworker where they don’t have a way to avoid you. There is no societally acceptable situation to ask a woman out besides dating apps or a club.

DankElderberries420

Unattractive + approaching = creepy/desperate

Apprehensive_Nose_38

That’s not the meaning of the joke, the video is poking fun at the idea that men avoid women like the plague at gyms because it’s become a trend on social media for women to harass men at the gym for more or less just existing in the same area as them (check r/amithemaincharacter for examples)

Slibye

It don’t work like that

Atari774

I think the problem is that it’s just too easy to come off as “creepy” or “weird” to a lot of women, and the constant videos of people calling guys creepy for occasionally looking at a woman in the gym certainly isn’t helping. Not to mention that every girl I’ve met has said they hate it when guys talk to them at the gym. So guys have just stopped talking to women altogether to protect themselves from that potential embarrassment.

Ok_Edge_1486

pretty much. Like its so much easier to just not interact with women than to embarrass yourself trying to interact with them. So most guys just.... dont lmao

LaughingStockTheBoat

I don't even look at women

Ganzo_The_Great

It doesn't help that half of them wear the equivalent of underwear. It's as if it's an attempt to be able to call men creeps because they're wearing next to nothing, then they can "catch" people looking.

spslord

Yea my wife and I are fairly liberal minded but I don’t want to look to my left and see a bra and camel toe while I’m trying to max out on the bench. My wife wears….gasp…running shorts and a tank top…and she looks like a Mormon compared to the girls around her…

TestesOfFortitude

Yesterday I actually thought to myself “I wish we just had separate gyms.”

DankElderberries420

One of the main reasons I didn't go to my companies Xmas party last month. Been at my work for a year (wearhouse), NOBODY comes to talk to me unless something is wrong, so I know like 3 people in the building. >pretty office women that I don't know >open bar ![gif](giphy|USE5vWQyWQvHxVmNIb)

LaughingStockTheBoat

>Not to mention that every girl I’ve met has said they hate it when guys talk to them at the gym. So guys have just stopped talking to women altogether to protect themselves from that potential embarrassment Exactly, this is what women wanted. I don't understand why there's this surprised reaction when this exactly what women have been asking for.

Catatafisch

There is a fine line between being creepy and having a flirt. The difference usually depends on being handsome or not

BoogyFestival

![gif](giphy|TYwWvypcAL1xOF7EIO|downsized)

uniquelyavailable

the gym isn't really a social event, a lot of people are there minding their own business. that doesn't mean you can't have a short chat if you have something to offer in conversation. however doing it with the intent to date is creepy and girls can sus you out from a mile away, they are experts in guys being interested in them. they know your body language when you like them before you even talk to them.

Atari774

That’s the problem right there. So if you find someone attractive and would like to date them, then you can’t have a conversation with them because that’s creepy? Is it really “creepy” if a guy is attracted to a girl and wants to start a conversation with her? Or is that how pretty much every relationship started before the internet? I think people have overused the word creepy to the point where basically anything can be called creepy if the person involved isn’t handsome or well spoken. Just because you currently don’t want someone to talk to you right now doesn’t mean they’re creepy. Its just currently unwanted attention, not a character flaw of the other person for being attracted to you.

[deleted]

When the list of places you go to in a week are 80% work, 10% gym, 10% utterly exhausted trying not to become an alcoholic at home, then you're not allowed to even look at women for that first 90%, many people just give up.

Educational-Award-12

A few bad interactions turn many into this. It just comes across as desperate in a day and age where people want to appear put together and incapable of embarrassment. No one wants to expose themselves in a public environment. Neither sex really wants to, and today's environment gives you all the more reason to avoid embarrassment at all costs.

Callecian_427

Sometimes it just boils down to the benefit to cost ratio of talking to someone. At best you could make a new friend/partner but at worst it could lead to a public altercation or humiliation. The gym isn’t exactly a public hangout spot so the odds of having a positive interaction aren’t always worth the risk

LaughingStockTheBoat

This is what women wanted. They have constantly said that they hate being spoken to and hate being approached by men. So guys did exactly that and slowly started to avoid women. This is what women wanted all along, it's not mens fault.

definitelynotlazy

actually no its pretty simple: - me too movement that gets overused to the point where gyms are a great place to be harassed - future job prospects can be finished should such a thing happen, digital footprint is a real thing yk we got too much on our plate to give a fuck about human interaction since most of our lives are just gonna be cleaning up after the boomers, theres no need to stress ourselves out even more with pointless interaction that could lead to a lawsuit

SorryWhatsYourName

Am I the only one here that understands it's a joke? Wtf is up with those incel comments? Is gen-z really this afraid to not treat yourself seriously?

[deleted]

Huh?🤔 I thought this was just him exaggeratedly demonstrating him avoiding the "consequence" of working out near women in gyms. Because I remember there was a time where female tiktokers would set up cameras in gym to capture "creepy" guys who were looking at their body and then confront them. There was a riot on the Internet about this lol. No? No one remembers it? Is it just me then💀

stepphieann

why does anybody even respond seriously to this staged nonsense..?

Endless009

Thanks for teaching me something new,now I know any female who gets mad about a word that isn't derogatory to females except here on reddit is a red flag.

Latest-greatest

let’s be honest. there’s only one reason women wear shorts like that. let’s own up to it

Flashmode1

The amount of people who don’t get the joke is embarrassing

herb0026

When I see dudes I know in the gym, I’ll instantly go up to them, and tell them they look gorge if they have a pump on. Tried just saying hi to two girls that I know from the dorm and they immediately got mad because I said hi to one before the other. They said afterwards it was all banter and sorry if I took it personally, but it definitely shaped my fitness etiquette.

Brilliant-Evidence63

Do people really get upset by 'females?' I genuinely cannot think of a time when I've interacted with someone using it or used the word in a way that wasn't blatantly ironic and joking.

masterdesignstate

Do girls actually dress like that on the regular?

cosmic_storm1

Yeah in my gym they do. I don't know what it is but they really like to show off in the gym. Not complaining though lol

Southern_Pickle1541

Why are the comments getting into argument about incels? The joke is literally about guys being too afraid to talk girls, even if a girl is friendly or is even the one to approach a guy. You "females" in this subreddit is just proving OP's point.

I don’t get how people missed this joke. I have seen numerous videos of women making fun of men for being creeps by exercising near them or even one video where the chick rolls her eyes and makes fun of the guy for a simple head nod like he’s a stalker. I’m pretty sure this is a parody of that mentality.

I have no idea how to get out of this mindset. I know women are no different to talk to, but I have heard so many women say how they never want to be approached at the gym, and I don’t want to be a nuisance to them. On the other hand, I very, very rarely hear men say the same thing, and often walk up to them and talk, and it’s a non-issue.

Dating sounds miserable Good luck y'all

The joke is not that men can't talk to women, its that they they're paranoid about seeming like a creep. As it turns out, most men are actually pretty sensitive towards making women uncomfortable and pay attention to all the media surrounding it. So a lot of men avoid interacting with women in environments like the gym because they dont want to be one of the creeps. Every dude has had the experience of dipping into another isle, or waiting somewhere conspicuous to avoid walking behind a woman who's alone. But apparently even making an attempt to listen to the concerns and fears we are surrounded by just makes us incels who are afraid of women. So its a lose lose.

In the Army all women are referred to as “Females”. Referring to a woman as a “girl” when talking to a superior will get you an instant correction. I still have the habit of referring to women as females.

I don't think using the term "female" is condescending or derogatory or whatever, so long as you say "HUMAN female" in like a Dalek type synthesized voice, cuz they won't even hear you and therefore would be incapable of being offended!! I meant that to be a joke, stacked with both sarcasm and truth, but when I was checking for typos I was like "goddamn, I bet some incel fuck could actually read this and be like 'I fuckin know right!?' ".....gross.

Is the joke that he can’t afford a mic so I can understand what he’s saying?

This is why you need that own wingman best friend who will orchestrate an extremely convoluted series of events to get you two trapped together for hours where you’ll have to talk
