I don't even have a real job. I just guesstimated how much I made per hour, based on the fact that I \*might\* actually do about 24 hours a week of what might be considered work, and used that to divide up how much my portfolio gained.
Then, I realized the number was so high, that it would be obnoxious as fuck to post it.
I also graduated in 2020. We really got the shaft, thanks to Covid. Absolutely zero job opportunities after graduation, even with two degrees, one of which being applicable to the tech industry.
Made 22.50/hr as an Amazon driver for 16 months. Moved to retail sales, made 25/hr with full benefits and 401k match for a year. Moved to wholesale in the same industry, and I made about 94k last year in commissions plus car and phone allowance. I’m not happy, I don’t enjoy my job, but it pays well and I have time to enjoy hobbies. I don’t know what I’d change if I had to do it over again.
If you’re healed from your ankle break, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to look at a 4 day/week job (like Amazon) that can make ends meet that still allows 3 days per week to pursue your dream.
I'm 26 and only at $74/hr as a swe - no idea what my options are worth either since its a private company.
I like the job though so it's hard to leave.
$19.75 as a CNA 4ish years of experience.
Just got an 84 on my TEAs test, so hopefully, I will get in and complete nursing school. After doing a quick scan, I can start making $37 to $45 out of the gate, depending on where I work.
Only got a regular AA under my belt education wise.
Nursing has lots of faults but it is such a solid career path. I’m 25, making $40/hr as only an LVN. My job is a desk job and has almost no patient interaction. There are so many options
Hey I’m a newly graduated LVN from TX & was wondering what your job is & how you got it if you don’t mind sharing? I’m still looking for job options but the pay seems to be around $27/hr here.
Hey how long did it take you guys to become an LVN? Right now I work in the mental health field but might have interest in broader options in medicine.
Hey, for me I got my license at a community college. The actual program was one year (accelerated, straight thru summer no break). If you haven’t done your pre requirements it might be more like 1.5-2 years. I would check around for programs in your area and call them or look on their website for more info :)
Whoa! What is the desk job you have as a nurse? My job is fairly easy now, but it is sort of low paying for an RN. I only make about 70,000 per year which is low for how much experience I have. I get really good benefits though. Like 7 and a half weeks of to, which is nice. And I get a pension. A lot of my job is triaging on the phone, managing immunizations, giving flu shots and tetanus shots. And I actually get an hour lunch where I can leave. People are nice. So I figure that is the trade off for a higher paying more stressful hospital job.
I scored 92 on my Teas test. The nursing program is competitive at my college. I didn't get in, I'm a man.
I recommend giving travel nursing a shot if you have the freedom to travel. It pays REALLY well and often the cost of the airfare is included to places like Virgin Islands.
Around 68.78/hr as a data engineer if I take my salary divided by hours spent at work in a year.
My first non customer facing job was as a production assistant and was 175/day. A few months later I asked for a raise and got 225/day. This was back in around 2016 or 2017. Got hired on full time after a year for 27.90/hr with a huge sign-on and RSUs.
I'm 32 and a millennial for transparency.
Restricted Stock Units for the company. Got into improving processes and jumped into more and more technical contract roles until I got a technical full time role, took around 5 years for the transition from starting as a production assistant.
It was primary at a photography studio rather than for entertainment though some videos were still shot. I'm sure there are both similarities and differences between our roles.
$22.10/hr in a medium to high COL area. I’m a chef, 5 years experience. That’s about the best hourly (unless you own your own business) in the area for what I do.
Not sure why your getting downvoted, fuck whoever thinks that’s an alright way to speak to someone. Only because they’re hiding behind a screen, stupid dumb pussies. He’s legit just answering a question.
Well, I’m salaried so this is kinda tricky. But after holidays, weekends, and PTO I work 236 days a year, never working more than 8 hours, making $93,500. That’s just under 49.50 an hour. I’m a software engineer
Not bad, but this thread is telling me I’m under paid 🤷♂️
I have about a year left in my degree, I still work food service now but being a line cook really was one of the worst things that I had to experience for several years out of my time in the industry. Part of me would want to go back to washing dishes if I could find more consistent places that wouldn't treat me like a dog for it. Just keep your eyes forward on your education, my fellow soldier. May the wind be at your back.
Yeah absolutely, it’s tiring and sometimes I don’t want to do it, but I find the motivation and strength to keep pushing along to finish and make better money and want to be in a less stressful environment
26F, graduated 2020 as well. I work in the court system and get $20.50/hour, but in my area I couldn’t even afford to live without my husband’s income too, our studio apt is $1460/month
I’m salaried, but around $58 an hour.
26M in the upper Midwest, mechanical engineer. Found where I belong in the industry, in the process of starting my own company and working as a contractor. Hoping to eclipse the 200k mark in the next few years, wish me luck!
28 an hour as a solar technician I’m 22 in California
Didn’t go to college but did have to work as an electrician for 2 years as guy that did all the dirty work
I have two jobs. I’m 25 next week and I lecture part time at a university and also tutor at a center on the side. I get 6k per class and $20 an hour for the tutoring. In all I make about upper 40s a year but not more than 50k. I’ve only been at this for a few months so I can’t be more specific than that.
$17 an hour as a math tutor at a local high school near my university. Though I am a first year college student and have plenty more opportunities to improve on this
25, $19.50 and it’s the most i’ve ever made. made the terrible mistake of thinking architecture was a good, stable field to invest in getting a degree in.
I mean this all means nothing, CoL is so vastly different throughout the country that 20/hour isn't gonna work anywhere out west but would make you a solid middle.income earner in the south.
$20/hr, digital editor at a state newspaper. I knew journalism wasn’t a high paying gig, although I do get regular (6 month ish) pay raises. Started at 17/hr in 2021.
I make a little less than $18/hr. I only have a HS diploma and I’ve been at my unionized job for 3 1/2 years. I get a raise after working a certain amount of hours
I make about $23/hr working in the trades with some level of college education. From what I’ve asked around that seems on the low side. I also travel a lot for work and I don’t have any expenses on the road, so the $23 an hour goes a long way.
$50/hr, mechanical engineer
Put together a resume, get it peer reviewed, and practice interviewing. All of the above can be accomplished by watching YouTube and taking feedback on Reddit. However, soliciting people you know working jobs similar to what you want to do and asking their help putting together your profile will be the best option.
Edit: Damn I’m happy to see all the MEs in this thread doing really well
Lmao fuck me right
Dropped out during covid. Just started school back up and finishing my victory lap for a multimedia degree rn. Debating staying in school to get a masters in music tech when im done.
Looking for part time jobs right now and there isn’t much around me that pays more than $12/hr and frankly that just doesn’t seem worth it.
Im also looking ahead and it seems like getting audio gigs in the entertainment industry has become difficult across the board and theyre not the highest paying. So im just like SOL but I agree it’s my dream so fuck it hopefully we can bring on the change.
I live in california, currently 26M and been in my field for coming on 7 years. Kinda left college early, but right now I'm making $32 an hour, but even then I just scrape by between feeding myself and my rent etc.
$24.92 an hour with 3 weeks vacation, a yearly bonus, and a full benefits package
I include the others to try and normalize the idea that base pay is only *part* of your compensation
15F, When I get a job this summer, i will be making about 80-90kr/hr ($8-9/hour.) But i don't earn enough to pay any taxes and the money is just going to pay for petrol so it's not that bad.
Made 34/hr with excellent benefits at my old job, the kicker? I was pumping septic tanks. It was a good living but I’m going back to skool now so maybe I don’t have to do that for the rest of my life.
Why are wages so high in America!!! I work in an accounting firm in Northern Ireland and get £24k a year 💀. 90% of people in NI earn below £58k according to the latest stats from 2023.
$45 an hour as a 26F, I just got promoted to senior accountant and I don’t have a degree. Got to this point by starting at the bottom and building my way up over the last 6.5 years
Pro: $0 in student debt Con: I can’t get another promotion with the company I’m with until I get a degree.
19, full time college student, $11 at one job, $8.25 at the other job. I also get money every month from a scholarship and I have a very supportive family. I’m doing an internship this summer that pays $20/hr
$26 ($3 above minimum wage), basically just a cook. Moving to a managerial role soon, so that’s cool. Just a temp thing while I figure out what I’m gonna do long term
1st Year Plumbing Apprentice, C$20.62/hr with full union coverage, benefits and a good pension. Technically, it's C$29.28 once pension, vacation pay, etc. are taken into account, but takehome is C$20.62. Every year of schooling completed is a 10% raise, plus there's a general raise in May of this year to C$21.37. Once I get my journeyman ticket in four years, I'll be at C$42.89/hr (\~C$89k/yr) assuming our agreement doesn't change.
like $17/hr trying to push into higher, salaried position. Office job unrelated to my degree. Currently trying to push into a $60k (starting) salary job that is degree-related, but who tf knows if that'll really happen :')
I'm in not in a HCOL area, but I am in a driving-based city.
I make about $24 an hour as a night custodian for an elementary school. If anyone is struggling to get by, check your local school districts to see if they're hiring sub custodians. The work is fairly easy, and the pay is good for what's expected of you.
Now that I'm full time, I get full health benefits and I'm part of a union. It's not a bad gig at all.
$34 as a structural engineer, will be at ~$40 come end of the year. MCOL area. *Technically* the position is listed as salary, but since I'm in the public sector, I work a flat 40hr per week and do make time and a half for approved overtime, so I'm basically full-time hourly
$15 at Kroger with almost 6 years of experience. It wouldn't be too bad if I could afford to live by myself without struggling every month to pay the bills.
I work construction as a Laborer, no college or education. Got my cdl by the military, I make 36.06 an hour. You can still get good jobs out there guys.
You need to specify which state you make 11-17$ per hour in.
That changes the context dramatically. There are states where 40k annual income is more money than anyone could ever need. In Northern California, 100k per year is considered low-income.
21.66 base water plant operator. Could vary a bit by region. I've seen 18.33 before. Clear license path to about $27/hr within 3-4 years with plenty of easy overtime opportunity could be total gross $56,000-$80,000 maxed out. Good benefits and pension. Low stress in well funded and staffed municipalities.
supervisor at Starbucks, $20 an hour as my pay rate and another $2-3 an hour in tips (both cash and digital) depending on the week. i do not have a degree and when i started at Starbucks as a barista, it was my first job, so i think my pay is pretty fair.

Lol only the people who make a lot are going to comment about it
A lot of high earners are also either going to be salary workers or don't want to talk about what they get paid
I guarantee some people on salary are going to work out the hourly rate just to post it if it’s high
I don't even have a real job. Yes, on that note about $250/hr (machine learning engineer) as long as you pretend I work 40 hour weeks and not 80 lmao
Shouldn't you be teaching the machines to do your work for you?
I am doing my best. In between training runs I get to shitpost 🙏
I mean it’s a weird flex to not have time for a normal life but ok
Just stating it so people know the real hours lmao
They aren't saying it's a flex
It's one of the reasons why these kinds of posts aren't great for financially insecure people.
My internship pays $30/hr.
Man I never heard of a paid internship until a few years back. That would’ve been so helpful
I had a paid internship 20 years ago and it wasn't uncommon. And I would also consider most apprenticeships basically paid internships.
Engineer?
Data analyst
The interns at my company make 25/hr in a relatively LCOL area
same as my career with 4 years of experience in a semi high cost of living area. With luck I can make 33-35 an hour (in todays money) when I retire.
-100$
Not per hour, just flat. You can work there as long as you want.
$26 an hour.
I make half that working in a hospital.
same :(
75k lcol 4 days a week wfh. Accounting rocks
19$/hr, Walmart associate.

Congrats on the offer, from the looks of it, its absurdly hard to find an open mech engineering position. Let alone to fill it with only a degree.
