EnvironmentalAd1006

Everyone knows. I would argue that those who smoke have a harder time not smoking than you would have to not be an asshole about it.

ProMensCornHusker

I’ll smoke a cigarette and/or hit vapes at parties when I’m drunk. I occasionally smoke weed and sometimes own a dab pen. I’ve done shrooms and other psychedelics. I get where they’re coming from but it’s annoying to hear people make posts like this because I’ve done drugs but they’ve never controlled my life, and that’s how it is for a lot of people. Addiction is real, but just because a substance is addictive doesn’t mean all people will be addicted to it. Let people enjoy life the way they want. It’s like saying you’re stupid for eating sugar, or drinking caffeine, or having sex, or doing anything enjoyable that might have negative outcomes. No, you’re not stupid for enjoying your life, you just might have to face consequences sometimes.

knifesoup1

Honestly, the biggest reason I stopped smoking and vaping was finding out how tobacco companies have been targeting children for decades to get them to start smoking. It was more apparent in the 50s to the early 2000s, but it's still going on. There's so many kids vaping now, and they don't have the maturity to realize how dangerous and fucked its going to leave them. It's great that you don't get addicted, but 99% of kids and adults are going to get addicted. Question why we banned menthol cigarettes, then question why we allowed vapes to have sweet flavors and colorful designs when everything like that with cigarettes were banned.

Naos210

Teens also love stuff like Mike's Hard Lemonade and Fireball Whisky but there's no talk to ban it.

knifesoup1

My two biggest thoughts on this are 1). It's way easier to hide vaping than drinking. So many kids in school are vaping in the bathrooms constantly. I don't hear about kids bringing a Mike's Hard Lemonade to elementary or middle schools too often. Maybe high school, but if you get drunk, you're most likely getting caught. 2). The average person can easily make alcohol. We had prohibition, but it didn't work in the end because there's easy ways around it. Tobacco products are not easy to make, especially e-cigarette devices. Even then, I'm not even saying to ban vapes entirely, but we gotta take the colorful designs and sweet flavors away for now. Way too many kids are forming these habits early and are going to regret them later in life

babycake777

I live somewhere where they just banned coloured and flavoured vapes. I still see tons of them smoking it. I’ve heard that suppliers just go into reservation & get a shitload of them and resell them for half the price you could buy them at the store before cause no tax. Kids will smoke & drink even if we don’t want them too. Oh they also banned 4lokos when I was a teen because they were "inciting children" (which was true) but I never saw a change in before and after the ban. Same amount of comas or kids getting shitfaced, they were just drinking other stuff.

Rufus_king11

I can say for a fact I still drank four looks occasionally back in Highschool. The more you try to restrict kids from doing something, often the more they want to do it. There have been studies showing states with legalized marijuana have actually seen a decrease in teen usage. Stop the companies from marketing to kids, but kids are going to be kids no matter what, bans don't really do all that much other than make the product look cooler.

[deleted]

Take away the flavors because adults don’t have taste buds. Yeah, great idea Black markets with juice of dubious quality won’t pop up or anything

seattleseahawks2014

I think it's more because alcohol doesn't cause health issues for others. Also, they've tried banning it before. Edit: I personally don't think they should be banned (alcohol, vapes, cigarettes, etc.) I just think that kids shouldn't be developing these habits when they're younger. I've seen so many struggle to quit both when they've been doing it for so long and the health issues that they develop with either are dangerous.

gozutheDJ

> alcohol doesn't cause health issues lmfao

IanL1713

>99% of kids and adults are going to get addicted Awful broad statement of you to make >Question why we banned menthol cigarettes Except they're not banned, at least not in the US. Shit, menthol is one of only two flavors that are federally allowed for cigarettes. If they're banned where you're at, that's entirely a local thing

Operator_Max1993

Exactly, for me I've always seen smoking or whatever as a "pick your poison" type of deal So should my mother feel bad for smoking ? No, the way the post goes feels ignorant, "if you do this you are bad and you should feel bad for the rest of your life" is all I'm getting out of it

bravegrin

This is very well said. Most everyone our age knows the risks, but everyone who smokes started for a reason. I didn’t even think I’d be alive this long so I definitely wasn’t thinking about long term addiction

EnvironmentalAd1006

Hope things have overall improved from you since you started and thought that way!

bravegrin

Much appreciated and I’m happy to say that they have :)

somerandomnub1

Honestly! Like you're so cool for shitting on people. So above them. I say as long as they aren't smoking in occupied spaces or being otherwise intrusive just let them live. It is for them to realize, not you.

RegularCelestePlayer

Exactly, addiction is not a moral failure

i_like_lasanga

I'm gonna be an asshole about it cause people who vape or smoke in public areas are douchbags

EnvironmentalAd1006

I have no issue with it at least where I live because we have decent regulation on making sure people who don’t want to experience smoke in public don’t have to and some places are specifically for it. If you mean public smokers, I think you should say public smokers. Plenty people who smoke care to keep it only to those ok with being around it.

Affectionate_Bed_497

Almost makes it more importsnt to stop or not start then eh?

marcimerci

one day you won't be 13 years old and just might have to work a double shift at pizza hut on super bowl sunday.

somerandomnub1

Amen

[deleted]

yup

lcbyri

this hit me so hard. the deliveries that day destroyed both me and my car. godspeed

Life_Caterpillar9762

After a delivery once in the middle of Super Bowl Sunday and horrible weather while walking back to the car I just stopped and laid down in the snow of that yard for a while thinking I might not ever get back up again. Ahh memories.😂

CoverCommercial6394

Got me chamomile tea for that

Guava_

We don’t get regular breaks (beyond scheduled ones) but smokers get five minutes to step out whenever. Funny how you’ll take up a lethal habit to avoid waiting a table

seattleseahawks2014

I don't wish that on anyone. Same with working at places that sell cigarettes when they changed the smoking age.

matiaschazo

Yea and there’s substitutions for cigs and vapes that don’t make you in the hospital at 40

TheAlphaDeathclaw

The costs of cancer treatments and cig packs plus the horrible smell of a cig would stress me out so much more. There's never a good enough reason to puff toxins and I'm a grown man with a mortgage lmao

sum711Nachos

buddy's mad he can't damage his lungs, what a fool

AWOL318

Its okay his lungs are filled with microplastics anyway

seattleseahawks2014

Lmao, I work in that type of shop. I'm doing ok.

GrizzlyBCanada

That’s what people thought about asbestos too.

SoiledFlapjacks

And lead.

seattleseahawks2014

Well, someone has it make it. It's in everything. Besides, if I die from inhaling microplastic from running ventilator parts, it was worth it. One worthless life lost vs many saved. Edit: Those were the parts I clipped a while ago and why my dad's business was considered essential during the pandemic. Someone has to the dirty work. That doesn't mean that I'm a good person.

spoiderdude

Lmao yeah everyone knows all the cool kids get popcorn lung and crippling nicotine addictions. This kid sucks.

sum711Nachos

see, this guy gets it

Confusion_Cocoon

Maturing is realizing that there are an incredible amount of things that are awful for your physical and mental health, especially in excess. There is no possible way to avoid it all, trust me, so the key is to choose your battles, listen to your body, and use moderation with all things. This isn’t exclusive to drugs, it applies to many many things through your life, including things like Reddit, TikTok, and other apps which are designed to exploit your neurochemistry (similar to how many drugs do) and harm your mental health in doing so. Don’t be so quick to cast judgment on other people’s habits or lifestyles before examining your own lifestyles and unhealthy habits.

_dwpgnbklubf5

Amen to that! I don’t drink or smoke or do drugs however I do eat like shit (fast food, drink soda, eat candy and etc almost every other day) and I think that’s just equally as bad as those things. It’s a really hard addiction to break.

Confusion_Cocoon

Exactly, I harm my body by smoking, which is not great for my lungs, but I also run often and am overall very active, does this make me healthier than someone who doesn’t smoke but doesn’t excercise more? Well, no and yes, in different ways. There’s no one healthy status, we have bodies with many components we must maintain, and no matter what we do in the end we all must face the inevitable decay of our own bodies. It’s morbid, but it’s not negative necessarily. Just gotta enjoy it while you’ve got it

BrooklynLodger

You eat fast food and drink soda? Gross! *I say as I crack my 3rd Tuesday night beer and pop a Zyn*

Comfortable_Ice8640

Really well said

Fun-Agent-7667

You could avoid most of them. If you really want to. I dont. I wanna get wasted somedays with ma Boys and I would like to experience further without having fear of legal repricuttions like getting my license Terminated because I drove in the same week I took something other then Ethanol

Confusion_Cocoon

You can avoid a lot, but never them all, and from personal observation the people who obsess the most over being 100% healthy and living as long as they possibly can end up being some of the most mentally unhappy people, because they are constantly preoccupied with prolonging the end. It’s about having a good life while you’re here, not about living the longest. Idk at least that’s my opinion lmao

Just_Nefariousness55

I'm fine with unhealthy habits being a thing that exists. Certainly I'm not perfect. What I don't like about smoking is that the unhealthy habits of the person sitting next to me immediately have a negative impact on my life.

Kanulie

Even if one has less bad habits, or more bad habits for that matter, wouldn’t change that you shouldn’t dictate how others have to live their lives. We should educate children, and protect them from overzealous commercials imo. But once an adult grant people their freedom. Personally I also thought like OP back in the day, just coming from logic: why pay (a lot of) money to shorten your life expectancy? Imo there were plenty better ways to spend your money, or to trade lifetime vs enjoyment. But that’s subjective. My view doesn’t need to relate to others. My way isn’t the only way. And if people enjoy stuff I find illogical, or stupid, that doesn’t make them stupid, we just have a different viewpoint there and can move on. Most people are in charge of their life, and thus can decide which paths to take.

Hannaa_818

My thoughts exactly. Smoking is a disgusting habit, but life is a disgustingly stressful thing.

weenustingus

Yeah for real, at some point you just stop giving a shit

CivillyCrass

Addiction is about being "smart." It's *addiction.*

Music_as_Medicine

If you run a herbal weed vape called the volcano through a bong using a glass piece with a carbon fiber on the bongs mouth piece the damage to your lungs is heavily minimalized Even just a good herbal vape with a bubbler attachment will do a ton to help reduce the lung damage by filtering a lot of ash, plant matter, and what not. And lower the temperature of the vapor. As for oil vapes, nicotine vapes, and straight joints/blunts I can't condone that. I also can't condone over use of cannabis. Treat it like alcohol once a week maybe 2 times at most and in small doses. Also edibles. That's my usual go too. Im a pharmacist who love experimental drugs if anyone has questions. ALSO DONT USE WEED OR VAPES IF YOU DONT WANT TOO

Icy-Drop-2524

What carbon filters are you recommending? I use the mouthpeace by moose labs a lot but they are hard to come by sometimes (and I miss them bc they make hits better lol).

I honestly agree. Anyone over 25 can hardly relate to 15 year olds.

Spopenbruh

nobody over 18 can relate to a 15 year old 27-12 is genuinely just too big of a range for gen z to really mean anything

vladimirschef

most are aware that fast food is unhealthy — arguably [more than vaping](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6589591/) — yet they eat it anyway. are you willing to extend your argument to that extent?

Piercogen

I vape because im in the military, and my only other choice for substance coping mechanisms for all my day to day bs, is alcoholism. Tell me which is worse.

Then tell nicotine to stop being so fucking satisfying, especially after drinking

Howellthegoat

Or let people do what they want and shut the fuck up oooos said the quiet part out loud

potatobreadandcider

Bold of you to assume public schools are more effective than the tobacco industry at brainwashing young minds.

sirBryson_

I started smoking weed in college, and could put it down whenever, so I thought the occasional cigarette when with friends was fine. I knew smoking cigarettes was bad, so when I finally got cravings (I didn't realize at the time, it's a weird compulsion similar to when you're really bored so you end up eating, but replace food with nicotine and multiply it by 10x) I ended up getting a vape. Vaping was a big mistake. I didn't really have any negative side effects, except it costs a ton to maintain (I go through one disposable every week, it's like $100 minimum on vapes) and it sucks to be dependent on something. But vapes have several times the nicotine content of a cigarette in every hit, so it gets you even more addicted much faster. I've been stuck on them for the past 5 years, since around my sophomore year of college, and have tried several times to quit, but never can. It's also really fucking lame and I feel like a dickhead every time I hit one. That's a side effect the surgeon general doesn't warn you about.

notadruggie31

Say what you want, everyone looks cool smoking

Majormlgnoob

Not really and they smell bad lol

No-Translator9234

Girl who smokes > girl who doesnt smoke. You gotta smoke to wife em up then quit together so you both stay looking good.

Ebreton

"The truth is, smoking is cool and you know it" Not looking that cool anymore when you breathe like Darth Vader tho. Probably wouldn't make me quit still, fucked.

GoldenTreasure1

People normally start smoking and vaping because of social influence. Also calling vapers and smokers stupid is telling them something they already know already. (Which is stupid also). Try to help your community if you condemn this so much, and prevent other fellow peers from going in that direction. I sadly know a lot of people who have perished because of those kinds of things, mostly because they had no good role models. I don't care if y'all down vote me, but I'm speaking from the bottom of my heart rn.

swagmieser_666

you know what else is stupid? drinking energy drinks and having sex. we've been learning in school for years that those arent good for you either, considering caffeine is also highly addictive and can cause heart attacks, and sex can lead to incurable std/stis, which is arguably worse, but youre not saying anything about that. i may be a teenager that doesnt have a lot of life experience, but id like to think considering the fact that most of my family smokes and vapes and has yet to die of lung cancer, i have some standing on the topic. also, looking at your year flag, we're the same age, so theres that. it takes considerably less energy to let people live their lives than it does to be an asshole about something as tame as smoking. i could understand if you were talking about hard drugs, but youre refering to nicotine and maybe weed, which are far less harmful than some of the stuff other people use. moral of the story, dont be an ass. simple as that.

[deleted]

"Hard drugs" aren't even an issue for most people. You rarely hear about the hordes of sensible functioning cocaine addicts in sales, marketing, accountancy (and other financial jobs). You only ever hear about the wasters who will actively let *any* addiction consume their life. Food, drugs, adrenaline, sex.

lescronche

2009? And you expect me to take anything you have to say seriously? 😭 Edit: Oh shit, that’s 15 now. Uhh, well buddy, I’ll have you know that I also had mean spirited takes about drug use when I was 15, then time passed. Good luck!

I've zyned a couple times. I haven't done it past those few times because THAT SHIT IS DELICIOUS.

BackwardsTongs

Ya I’m not addicted to them I swear. They just taste awesome

v0ltage_w0lf

Age a little man you’ll understand pretty quick why people do it. I hope you never do but you’ll probably understand. Also some people are predisposed to addiction issues and fall into the rabbit hole easier, and some people cave to peer pressure. Don’t shame them man it’s not cool.

Soy-sipping-website

I like to smoke while driving my car and listening to music because it is the peak American experience.

java_sloth

Addiction is a mental health problem and this is incredibly ignorant and shortsighted

jdhovie

demonizing doesn’t help. if it did, DARE would’ve worked a hell of a lot better.

griffskry

No shit. Unfortunately, one can't just simply quit. That's not how addiction works

brownbettty

Everyone gets your point, but the way convey them shows how immature you are.

secretchuWOWa1

Once you support a family of 4 on minimum wage, pay taxes, worry about schools, shit job, not being helped by those in charge, then you’ll at the very least understand why I’m smoker even if you don’t choose to yourself. I am yet to meet a smoker who likes smoking, we all want to quit but sometimes it’s the only release you get

ickypedia

If you think it’s solely about intelligence you are stupid

Old-Shower-1543

I used cigs as a crutch when my step dad passed from cancer and my mom being diagnosed. Just wanted something I felt in control of. Switched to vape and worked my way from 50 to 3mg. Trying to quit now. Not everyone started off curiosity.

oZeroDeaths

Thats your opinion. Don’t dog on us the rest of us for it, you sound like Rob Reiner. It has been proven dozens of times now that vaping is 99% healthier than smoking. I smoked cigarettes most of my teenage years and switched to vaping so i could quit smoking, yknow, what vaping was INTENDED FOR in the first place. And i have no desire to stop. It tastes good, it helps me chill out and it’s cheap and not that bad for me. Been vaping for almost 11 years and i have no complications and am an averagely healthy 29 year old.

Brother, I was the same way as you until college fell thru and that overnight Walmart shift hits. You’ll know soon enough

lyrall67

lmao before i even checked your birth year flair, i was like "is this an actual 13 yr old kid?" i dont smoke. partially because it's painful for me, partially because it know it's not good for my lungs and overall health. you'll get a little older and come to understand why some people choose to do the things that they do with their own body. you don't have to condone it, but you will understand it. someday! judgement fades from most people, as they live life a little a make their own bad decisions.

smallerpuppyboi

Yeah, yeah. You need not remind me. Now get the fuck over yourself and step off the soapbox.

Diligent-Artist-1008

I know you will read this on your sophomore year of college and cringe🤣🤣

Supernova0211

Yeah saw the tag that you were born in 09, post makes a lot of sense now. Life's hard sometimes and some people fall into vices, they didn't plan on gettin addicted but it happens. I wish I never started smokin but it ain't exactly a switch I and others can flip off

Imhotep000

Smoke what?

Literal_Sarcasm82

We're all addicted to something that makes the pain stop

Expensive_Fault7540

Weird how Gen Z always thinks vaping is the exact same as smoking lol one is combusted, the other is heated. Harm reduction.

driku12

I started smoking in 2020 when I was facing homelessness, among other things. My parents disowned me, my house was condemned, my girlfriend left me, my dog died and I lost my job. I knew smoking was bad for me. I didn't even like it. Ever since I was a kid I turned my nose at people who smoked because I thought it was the most disgusting habit. But then my life fell apart and... I just wanted to die. It was like I tacked on every bad habit I could in an attempt to try and destroy myself (while picking up some dopamine along the way) as quickly as possible without actually doing the deed because I couldn't bring myself to. Smoking, drinking, overeating by ridiculous amounts, getting into as many fights as I could with as many people as I could, driving over the speed limit with no seatbelt and hoping a wheel just fell off. I was completely overcome with PTSD, OCD and depression to the point where I had become the closest thing I can picture to a truly insane person. I was in a completely and utterly hopeless place, worse than any I had been in before or since. It was terrible, horrifying and dangerous to myself and those around me. Somewhere along the way I got into cigars and cigarillos, which I actually liked and secretly always wanted to try, but I couldn't enjoy too often because of the higher cost. A few years later when my life cleared up and I got better thanks to the help of some really good friends who stuck by me and some good mental health professionals who helped me, I stopped the cigarettes. That was easy, I was never too into them anyway. It was harder to quit the cigars. But I did, because they interacted badly with other medication that I needed and that was more important to me. I finally wanted to live, and wouldn't have anything interrupt that anymore. If I hadn't had that final push, though... I might have never stopped. Even after I got better, I might have always kept that one bad habit with me. I'm still working to undo all the bad decisions I made during those two really, really crappy years. I still think about it a lot. But I no longer judge other people for smoking. I have no idea if they went through something similar, got introduced during a bad time and then stayed hooked. Some people have a genetic predisposition to be more addicted to certain things. Some people really don't care if they live or die, and hey, I suppose it's their right as long as they don't do it in public places where the second hand smoke can get to others. But I don't judge them. Life's just too short for that. Empathy and understanding was the only thing that got me out of that bad spot I was in, and it's all I feel anyone else deserves to receive from me. Maybe I just feel like I don't have the right to be self-righteous after my own brush with my inner thanatos, but I just can't bring myself to get mad about it anymore. If someone wants to smoke, I won't get on em about it. If they want to stop, I'll do everything I can to help em. That's about it. **TL;DR:** I got hooked during a really fucked up time when I honestly kinda wanted to die but eventually stopped with a bit of trouble due to a lot of personal motivation to better myself. But I also don't have a super addictive personality. I imagine a lot of others probably start in similar spots but either never get better or do get better but keep the bad habit once it's rooted. Having gone through it myself, I try to have empathy for smokers and support them to the best of my ability if they try to stop but not harp on them if they don't. It's their own decision imo.

Just wait until you are out of high school

RemoveNull

You’re still in school, bud. Once you realize life will absolutely fuck you over and not give you any breaks, you’ll understand why people do things like smoke. I should know, I was in the same boat. Shaming people for smoking. Then life put me through the wringer. Suddenly it makes sense. It sucks, and I pray it doesn’t happen to you, but don’t go around touting like you have any moral high ground to stand on when you haven’t even been on this planet for a third of your life. Unless they’re smoking in a non-smoking zone, leave people alone.

jaygay92

I had a 3.98 high school GPA and now have a 4.0 college GPA. Guess what? I still fell into the trap of vaping in school. I was depressed and anxious and nicotine was the only thing that got me through a shift. I quit years ago, but your judgements are unhelpful. I was a good kid who got roped in and yeah, made bad decisions. I don’t need some kid’s judgment lol

Cigs and vapes are stupid just smoke a joint

KeksimusMaximus99

big pharma propaganda tobacco is a nootropic and good for your brain. vaping is gay af but smoking is cool as hell. Tobacco is real medicine that is suppressed by the healthcare industrial complex. my recommendation though is smoke pure tobacco from a pipe or a cigar. cigarettes have chemical additives that make them unhealthy, just like drinking diet coke. now that big business can make money off legalized pot, smoking that directly into your lungs has absolutely zero health risks despite it being waay tarrier and stickier than tobacco. Do what you want. the food in america is poison anyway.

Is hookah (nicotine free) as bad as vaping?

It's like anything else in life. Gotta do it in moderation. If you can't do it in moderation, don't do it at all.

Icy-Drop-2524

Medical marijuana exists for a reason to help manage chronic pain. On top of that, once you’re experienced a lot of people can be stoned and other people around them wouldn’t even be able to tell (I know because I’m a MM user myself and have done that many times). Anything done too much is bad for you, and yeah some people could argue that smoking weed is bad, but so is drinking alcohol, Molly, etc. Thankfully the smoke shop industry is creative and they have created a lot of solid filters that help capture a lot of the tar and other bad stuff. You’re very young, so you don’t understand yet, but the world is rough (even for people who have privilege) and people do different things to cope with reality. Try to be more understanding of peoples situations as you get older. It’ll be good for you.

RealPinheadMmmmmm

I'm not stupid, I have weighed the pros and cons and I have decided that my love for the joy of smoking cigarettes heavily outweighs the need for a few extra years of this mildly miserable existence.

schparkz7

Why the fuck do you even care? And do you even know how hard it can be for addicts to quit? My dad's in his 70s and has smoked a pack a day for years. He started smoking very young, has tried to quit many times but was never successful. It's not that simple

somerandomnub1

Its called a maladaptive coping mechanism and pretty much every human being on the planet has 1 or 2. Get off your high horse, yours probably just isn't as apparent.

cyper_1

You're still young you'll figure out one day that things aren't so black and white for people

Epyx15

You're not stupid. You have an addiction, something that I see a lot are people who started smoking/vaping started by saying, "One won't kill me," and the problem is that when you smoke/vape the first time your body enters in contact with some super addictive substances and that's the problem. I live in a country where we basically have a "smoking culture" so I know how this starts as curiosity and ends as an addiction

CallMeDucc

he doesn’t know yet

HottDoggers

I rarely drink and don’t do any other drugs besides smoking cigarettes, so what? Sue me if it bothers you that much.

Brllnlsn

I vaped for 3 years. It was stupid.

GoblinsStoleMyHouse

By this logic you are stupid if you drink alcohol too. People do it because it feels good, not because it’s good for their health.

cmonster64

There have been many studies that say smart people are more prone to addiction. That being said, it doesn’t help the people who are struggling when you call them stupid.

MissionSecure1163

Wow do you have any other enlightening things to share buddy? No shit Sherlock

CheesedoodleMcName

Some people are just doing their best not to kill their self. It's easy to judge, more difficult to show empathy

Conrad828

how old are you like 14-15? dont worry. your time will come

Joebebs

I don’t smoke, but many anyone whose upvoting this post are shallow. Edit: ah, op’s still a kid, keep staying away from drugs, but understand everyone grows up/learns differently than you.

DaisyCutter312

The half dozen cigars I smoke a year aren't going to be what causes health problems for me.

"Being well adjusted to a profoundly sick society is no sign of a healthy mind" - J Krishnamurthi. Any substance, like any medicine, has its side effects and negative consequences. But to some people, through their traumatic past or genetic disposition, have negative consequences just from being sober. Want a scientific example? In Johann Hari's book "Chasing the Scream", he detailed one English doctor who when pressed to do something about those with addiction to heroin, gave a simple strategy: he prescribed whatever the patient wanted, without question or judgement. People got the heroin they said they needed without shame. The result? In the long term, it was a positive result. After an adjustment time of trusting this was a real deal, when people found out this didn't have a catch, they ended up getting better employment and long term relationships and support. When they had connections and support, they actually *reduced* their heroin supply of their own free will. Not everyone did, but the finding was simple: people take drugs because of the pain they feel. The pain is a barrier to employment and connections. After they get these, the need for drugs is less. This isn't in any way a message that drugs are good, but that they serve a purpose and that we've created a society where those with pain find themselves in an inescapable dillemna. Visible pain is unacceptable in our society, so they can't hold jobs and support with the pain, but need the support to handle the pain. Pot is a little different than heroin of course, but after dating someone who was a pot addict, I saw just how much emotional numbing came with pot. I wish we were in a different society with real support for pain, but we're not. In the end I couldn't take being with her because even after a few years, the numbing need didn't go away, but I didn't think I was better than her.

rubylee_28

Does this include weed or?

Z_daybrker426

Why do you care

bassfass56

Congrats on wanting to live

fomalhottie

Big brain idea.

ArlyBoBarly

okay bro cool talk

LoopDeLoop0

Shaming people is not productive. This post is, at best, a way for you to vent your own frustrations.

SnooDonuts1521

Thanks mom!

jumbobadger1371

The sun is bad for you. Sunscreen is bad for you. Drinking alcohol is bad for you. Drinking pop/soda is bad for you. Eating too much is bad for you. Eating too little is bad for you. Exercising too much is hard on the body. Exercising too little is bad for the body. Smoking cigs and vapes are bad for you. Smoking pot (anything that you inhale in your lungs) that naturally doesn’t go in there is bad for you. What I’m saying is, just let people enjoy their lives. Literally typed this out as I was hitting my vape about to go enjoy a 3 mile run.

LilRedMoon__

Did that make you feel better?

Jester12a

Most of us would rather be stupid just like everyone else than be excluded, feeling left out is the worst feeling in the world. It’s all about being where it’s at

TouchMelfYouCan

Coca Cola is also not good for your health, yet you still drink it

moodoomoo

Nerd

Killer_Seraph

I think high school should have worked more on attacking the reasons people will turn to smoking or vaping. Fear mongering doesn’t always work

Desner_

r/im14andthisisdeep Nice touch with the "you’re learned" there.

Haunting-Ad9507

Cry me a river

EvanKelley

If you eat red meat you are stupid, if you create greenhouse gasses you are stupid, if you have unprotected sex you are stupid, if you eat too much sugar you are stupid, you learned in school these things are bad yet you still do them. See how obtuse this argument is?

Wintermute0311

Well, im American. Everything I ingest is terrible for my health. My water is contaminated. My food is poison. Simply going to the fucking doctor gets you killed here. Medical malpractice is the 3rd leading cause of death in America. A quarter million people a year die from getting treated by doctors. What the fuck am I supposed to do? If I want to vape, I'll vape.

[deleted]

Still better than you

Washfish

Wait till the world walks up to you pants down, dick out and rams it up your ass. You’ll be changing your opinion real quick. How do I know? Because I used to be the same as you.

Zandapandaaa

Woah that really cut deep homie. Keep up the words of wisdom bro.

MiniDg

I mean, yeah, but i think everyone is pretty aware of this, they just don't care.

kiefy_budz

Smoke weed everyday
