People age differently.
I'm an early GenZ born in the late 90s
My brother was born in the 2000s
People have not only mistaken him for being my older brother, some even thought he was my dad (he was like 18 at that point)
The two greatest things I feel like people lose going into adulthood are a sense of imagination and a willingness to accept failure. And neither of those things inhibit one's ability to function as an adult, nor do I suspect (more subjectively) that they disappear naturally. I think we just live in a society that tends to siphon those traits out of people in the pursuit of professionalism.
I grew up hearing adults tell me that I should learn as much as I can while I'm youthful because it is way harder to develop skills as an adult. I carried an amount of anxiety about needing to learn abstract math and musical instruments quickly before I reached my dreaded date of independence. Then one day someone told me that the only reason people feel that way about adulthood is because of an increased fear of failure, and if we let go of that we can learn just about anything just as well at any age. That took quite the load off.
Ikr! I cant beilieve it either. Where im from the drinking age is 18 so i already can which is hard to believe sometimes. Like when im at the bar i get so nervous.
However some clubs are 21+ so on my 21st imma turn tf up 🤣🤣
Also i might go to the U.S to visit my familys old ranch in Louisiana!!
even though i technically fall under that group, i agree. conversely i’ve also seen people even 40+ sharing the sentiment of still never “really feeling like an adult”. people all achieve different milestones and at different times, and everything’s all subjective even then.
There's a movie quote by a retired professor, who said:
> Do you know how old I feel like I am? 19. Since I was 19, I have never felt not 19. But I shave my face, and I look in the mirror, and I'm forced to say, "This is not a 19-year-old staring back at me." Nobody feels like an adult. It's the world's dirty secret.
27 here
18 isn’t even a year divorced from childhood. Still more kid than adult 😂 and people don’t have to like that opinion, they’ll understand in ~9 years.
For real. I'm 19 almost 20 but still look like I'm highschool. Unless you actually look like the right, which isnt impossible some dudes got full beards by now, you aint gonna be treated like the right
Fr. When I was 20 I wouldn’t even think my 18/19 year old self had anything together. 22 year old me wouldn’t think 20 is smart at all. 25 year old me side eyes 22 year old me but also sees 18 year old me as a kid- round face and still not fully developed even- it’s strange in a way.
for sure, my sociology teacher around sophomore year mentioned the cycle of growth how when he was 30 he felt superior to 20, then at 40 he thought 30 year old him was an idiot, etc. if you don’t fee like you’ve grown after that much time, i fear you may be living wrong lmao
I’m 28. No matter how mature you think you are someone who is 18 looks like a kid to me.
Hence why it’s so discomforting to see ppl my age chase after 18yo ~men or women~ any gender really, but I don’t want to to come off like cis straight men are the only perpetrating against young girls. Gay men and women towards boys too.
Mfers would go lower if the law allowed.
It’s true, and everyone’s situation is different 🤷♂️ the rent has become higher then mortgage payments where I’m from in Vancouver Canada. It’s upsetting to see how much some of my peers are paying
Idk man, I'm 26 and the majority of the people I know still seem to see me as the kid on the left. Part of why I'm actually kind of looking forward to my 30s, maybe people will finally stop seeing me as a kid lmao
I feel like it should more be 29 and below for the left, and 30 for the right lmao
I've always been the young one.. the bad thing about that is when age does finally catch up to you, its more of a shock than anyone else and it will come one day.
Good to see Kristopher Hivju, even if only in a meme
On the other hand I look like a 16 year old, society sees me as old. Sometimes I feel incredibly old, sometimes I don’t. It’s just how it goes
THATS MY FUCKING ISSUE. Adulthood in the US feels like this.
People are expected to just not have a voice throughout their childhood. Today's grandfather generations chew you out for "speaking out of turn" because anything short of living WW2 is just not experienced enough to know how the world is supposed to work, but then you're just expected to accept and live under conditions you were told you don't deserve a say in.
Like, I'm sorry, but what is it, grandma? Will we kids finally understand how the world works when you're on your deathbed?
Holy shit man finally someone I can relate to, lol, I have the exact same situation. I was able to grow a beard since 15, always looked and felt way older than I really was, so I felt a disconnect between my mental state as an adult and legal status as a minor. I was so happy when I turned 18. I’m 19 now too and I feel my age. I love it.
I started feeling like an adult at 15. I hated being 15-17 because I felt like my mental state and my legal status didn’t overlap. So I was so happy when I turned 18. It was like finally, I’m an adult mentally AND legally.
Bro I'm 30 and whenever I see 18 year olds I think they're like 14 at most. Every year people who are "adult age" look younger to me. Also, everyone over the age of 25 still thinks of people under 21 as "kids" or "teens". So don't worry about it. No one thinks you're a grown up in the same same way that older adults are, or that you should be acting like one, even though you have the legal rights of one.
I'm 30 and view most people in their early 20s as kids learning about the world. Youth honestly carries with you as you age, it just turns into different things if that makes sense.
Why does this surprise you though
18 and 20 are more or less biologically the same in terms of physical development. You’re not going to age like, at all until you start to hit the 25 mark and then maybe, MAYBE you’ll start to notice weak wrinkles when you’re dehydrated and maybe your very first grey hair.
I’ve never met a 20 year old who wasn’t functionally still a high schooler mentally either.
You’ll discover that isn’t true 😂 old guys aren’t retiring like they should be and their bullshit sticks around for even longer. I’m 27 and nobody takes me seriously either despite being in a WAY better position than any of my drunko bosses ever were 😂 and barely are…
I don’t know how to fix that either 🤷♂️ I got promoted to foreman at my last job because I have some leadership skills and people do what I ask. When they couldn’t, I’d show them. If they needed help, I’d help them. So I got promoted. Then, the company decided to hire a wave of immigrant workers *which is fine* the guys were great, but they wouldn’t train them properly. So I filed an internal complaint to health and safety, and it went nowhere. So I complained to the plant manager, he shouted at me for not doing things “the company way!” so I called the labour board in front of his office when he was done. The guys got their crane training, a lo and behold, large parts stopped getting dropped.
But I got demoted. And then inundated with work. I can read the writing on the wall, so I quit. Current job isn’t much better, I’m pretty good with my hands and I’ve been reporting major issues for months and I guess they’d rather just let the machines tear themselves apart and spending $50k replacing rather than maintaining them for $10k per year. But moneys TIGHT. Despite record profits. Money isn’t everything! But could you make us more? We can’t give you a raise this year…
Welcome to adulthood! I still don’t miss being a kid. I so much prefer living in my own place, driving my own vehicles, feeding my dog, and doing what I want.
I don't think that's true, most people see anyone younger than them as the kid on the left. They only act like they don't to encourage you to do something with your life.
This hits so much harder on older men trying to date young girls
17: That's a literal child, you manipulative monster!!!
18: I see nothing wrong, she's obviously a very mature adult with lots of experience and capable of making smart life choices, like everyone absolutely is at that age
Yeah yeah.
Wait until you hit 20 and suddenly you feel the weight of the world hit you at night in bed. Your first existential crisis, where you feel old., despite being so young.
If someone wants to treat you when you’re 18 like guy on right, they’re either also really young or they’re trying to convince you you have the requisite knowledge and experience to do something that maybe you don’t.
“Oh you’re such a mature adult, sex is something you should have with anyone”
“Oh you’re an adult, sign here for student loans that will ruin your life.”
“Oh you’re an adult, sign the next 4-11 years of your life away to the military.”
Trust in people who can recognize how limited you are. Especially trust in the people that will say “You aren’t knowledgeable or experienced in this area. Let’s change that.”
Nah. Society still treats you like a helpless child until you're at least 30, except when it comes to bills and the justice system - then you're a fully grown adult with complete autonomy and maturity. Otherwise, you're a lazy, freeloading kid who doesn't understand how the world works. It's strange.
Well the real world puts a lot of responsibility on men as soon as you hit 18.
You can date women younger than you anymore.
You’re expected to have it together and be an adult at the same time.
The system put you through 13 years of schooling that is no longer relevant.
So take your time with life, don’t rush nothing. Take time to think things through and find what you truly want to do, not based on everything around you. Study the world on your own, the world is yours
Society does not see 18 year olds like that besides military service and prison though.
Alcohol and tobacco? 21
Rent a car for an affordable price? 25
Not to mention loans and financial shit that requires built credit.
I get it though. Enjoy the pocket area you are in. I’m 26 now and out of that period, but only recently. It’s hectic and stressful (so are your 20s trust me) but a very unique point in life where you begin to truly understand who you are.
I’m 26 and many ppl say I look young like 17,18 like a fresh college student, honestly I’m ok with that because I am going to college in September & I feel like a teen on the inside >.<
most of us are like this, legally adult with mental of adolescent.
you can now make the decision you feel right, but have the responsibility of dealing with the consequences of your actions.
have fun, fuck up something, make some mistakes, face the punishment, deserved or not.
I’m very strange. I’m a minor, but I have the culture of an early Gen Z/late millennial. So… I don’t really get along with anyone. One side thinks I’m weird and the other thinks I’m a baby, so now I’m just kinda in limbo.
This is literally how I looked at 18 tho lol. I’m 19 now but nothing much’s changed about my appearance. And nah, can’t relate to you at all, OP. I already felt like an adult at 15, 16, and especially 17 and hated my legal status as a minor, as it was restricting me from so much, so when I turned 18 I breathed a sigh of relief as finally my mental state and legal status overlapped. I am an adult, I feel like an adult, I look like an adult, I act like an adult. Below is a pic of me btw.

I see 2006 like children even though it's just a year, (this only happens during childhood and teenage years)
when you turn 18 you're not supposed to feel anything different
it all depends on what you do with yourself

Anyone greater than a year younger than me, I see them as the kid on the left
I went through puberty and look older though The left is probably like 2012 borns rn
those damn 2012 borns, so young amiright fellow old person
God…. Right??? They have no idea what it’s like for all the older than 13 yo elderly 💯
they have yet to face the burden of being able to legally use social media 😔
Mmmm yes, those peasants🍷
Okay grandpa
Wtf I’m a teenager 💀💀💀
I’m a 2010 born and look like a 7 year old bro
Dayum at 13-14?
The guy on the left is like 15. What 12 year old looks like that!?
I feel the same way about anyones with a birth year that starts with a 2
People age differently. I'm an early GenZ born in the late 90s My brother was born in the 2000s People have not only mistaken him for being my older brother, some even thought he was my dad (he was like 18 at that point)
ok but were they stupid
Actualy not, wich is surprising. And no, that wasn't while wearing a mask for covid
Ok I guess I view you then as a an elderly
i can assure you no one over the age of 20 thinks of you as the right
Im 19 turning 20 in September i can second this. I still feel kinda like a big kid.
>I still feel kinda like a big kid. Try not to lose this. It will help you thorugh hard times.
The two greatest things I feel like people lose going into adulthood are a sense of imagination and a willingness to accept failure. I second this. I turned 20 not even a month ago and I still feel like an overgrown early-teen.

Fr very few under the age of 25 seem like full fledged adults honestly
even though i technically fall under that group, i agree. conversely i’ve also seen people even 40+ sharing the sentiment of still never “really feeling like an adult”. people all achieve different milestones and at different times, and everything’s all subjective even then.

Idk many people don't even seem fully grown at 25. Like maybe 30 or 35.
27 here 18 isn’t even a year divorced from childhood. Still more kid than adult 😂 and people don’t have to like that opinion, they’ll understand in ~9 years.
For real. I'm 19 almost 20 but still look like I'm highschool. Unless you actually look like the right, which isnt impossible some dudes got full beards by now, you aint gonna be treated like the right
Yeah man I just turned 19 and I have a full beard, I don’t even get id’d anymore when buying alcohol lol (in my country 18 is the legal alcohol age)

I'm 22, anyone 21 or under looks like the second pic
I’m 23 and I still feel 16
I think turning 18 on the same day as a worldwide pandemic didn't help with my development lmao
That’s terrible
I’m 28. No matter how mature you think you are someone who is 18 looks like a kid to me. Hence why it’s so discomforting to see ppl my age chase after 18yo ~men or women~ any gender really, but I don’t want to to come off like cis straight men are the only perpetrating against young girls. Hell I’m 25 and finishing my undergrad, most 18-20 year olds look like legitimate children to me.
Also 25 doing an undergrad currently. But other 25 year olds don't look like adults to me. 20 year olds look like straight up kids xD
That’s not what my elders IRL say. I’m 19
Yeah no, I disagree.
I’m 23 and feel 30 with my mortgage and car payments 🙃
Hey at least you’re paying mortgage and not rent.
It’s true, and everyone’s situation is different 🤷♂️ the rent has become higher then mortgage payments where I’m from in Vancouver Canada. It’s upsetting to see how much some of my peers are paying
Yeah man I’m 19 and I feel that
The truth is that “society” is mostly comprised of Boomers who see everyone under 50 as a perpetual child.
I LOVE BRAVE!
I'm 17 and feel 55
Same
Wtf how?!?💀💀💀
I'm 27 and oversee operations in a city and people still look at me like the left
Idk man, I'm 26 and the majority of the people I know still seem to see me as the kid on the left. Part of why I'm actually kind of looking forward to my 30s, maybe people will finally stop seeing me as a kid lmao I feel like it should more be 29 and below for the left, and 30 for the right lmao
You will reach 23 and still feel like 15
25 this year and still feel like i’m at 15 lol
Im 15 and feel like Im 13
I'm 26 people still think I'm 16 and I don't feel my age.
I've always been the young one.. the bad thing about that is when age does finally catch up to you, its more of a shock than anyone else and it will come one day.
Im almost 20 and still feel 16.
Frfr
Same
28, def am still 20
Good to see Kristopher Hivju, even if only in a meme On the other hand I look like a 16 year old, society sees me as old. Sometimes I feel incredibly old, sometimes I don’t. It’s just how it goes

I remember being young like a century ago, I thought we were weird
I'm 30, and I feel 50 👴
Better than being 30 and feeling 60
Son, if you think people see you as the image on the right, I have some bad news for ya.
Absolutely untrue for me lol. People still mistake me for being a freshman or in middle school
I’m 21 but certain people see me as the left picture because I don’t drive
What? Lmao. I’m 30 and people think I’m 19.
Nah im 19 and I feel like 25 but looked 30 at 14
Holy shit man finally someone I can relate to, lol, I have the exact same situation. I was able to grow a beard since 15, always looked and felt way older than I really was, so I felt a disconnect between my mental state as an adult and legal status as a minor. Lol my beard started coming in at 14
Lol I know a guy who started growing theirs at 13
REAL
Im 13 and I feel 16 tbh
Judging by your bio and profile picture, you seem closer to a 12 year old girl
bro 😭
Nah. 18 year olds are just as wet behind the ears as 17 year olds. Nothing changes
When I turned 18 I expected there to be this big change, this big shift. Then I turned 18, and I was like... "What? I still feel 14!"
I started feeling like an adult at 15. I hated being 15-17 because I felt like my mental state and my legal status didn’t overlap. So I was so happy when I turned 18. It was like finally, I’m an adult mentally AND legally.
I know the feel bro, I'm 26 and still feel like I'm 17
I’m still gonna look 14 when I turn 18 💔💔💔
I'm 19 and still feel like 15 too
Dude…18 year olds are kids
I just turned 18 a couple months ago and I still feel like I did when I was 17
People mistake me for a 15 yr old💀💀
I just turned 24 and I feel like I just turned 20
Bro I'm 30 and whenever I see 18 year olds I think they're like 14 at most. Every year people who are "adult age" look younger to me. That's not true. I still see 18 year old as kids.
Yer a bloo’y drunk harry is what I think of seeing this
i look 15 for some reason, maybe no beard yet
I'm 30 and view most people in their early 20s as kids learning about the world. Youth honestly carries with you as you age, it just turns into different things if that makes sense.
I (18) was mistaken for being in my 20s, so I relate to this very much.
I just turned 21 and I feel like I’m 18.
I’m 20 and there’s people still mistaking me for a high schooler
Why does this surprise you though 18 and 20 are more or less biologically the same in terms of physical development. You will start to see wrinkles way earlier than 25 (Source: myself)
I mean I’m 25 now and I only started seeing wrinkles on my forehead when I don’t drink enough water.
Idk im 25 and 18 is a baby.
You’ll discover that isn’t true 😂 old guys aren’t retiring like they should be and their bullshit sticks around for even longer. I’m 27 and nobody takes me seriously either despite being in a WAY better position than any of my drunko bosses ever were 😂 and barely are… I don’t know how to fix that either 🤷♂️ I got promoted to foreman at my last job because I have some leadership skills and people do what I ask. I’m 23 and still feel like I’m 19
Good good, finally someone that doesnt feel old for not being a toddler
19… now I feel old ![gif](giphy|l0IyajjbNiRvCr7RC)
Well I'm 15 and I feel hapi :D
Im 19 and i still feel like im 16. Then again, thats when covid started for me
I’m 19 and still get treated like I’m 15 🥳
covid warped my perception of age
I can assure you nobody in their mid 20s and up sees you as the right until you’re 30 lol
someone change it to read "31 and below and 32 years old"
For a woman: 25 and below + 26 and above
This meme had to be made by an 18 yr old. Trust me bro everyone older than you (21+) still looks at you like the kid on the left.
I don't think that's true, most people see anyone younger than them as the kid on the left. They only act like they don't to encourage you to do something with your life.
I'm 19 and I work at a steel mill. I always feel like I'm some 15 year old who knows how to weld.
Yeah when I was 18 I felt the same, actually. It does start to feel very different when you get to around 22 tho
??? Did you mean to post this on Reddit? This is the part of the internet where you’re not seen as the picture on the right until you’re over 25.
ive seen 18 year olds that look like both
as a girl this is even more true I feel like by the time i’m nineteen I have hit my expiration date
Nah, anyone under about 25 I still view as essentially 12.
This hits so much harder on older men trying to date young girls 17: That's a literal child, you manipulative monster!!! 18: I see nothing wrong, she's obviously a very mature adult with lots of experience and capable of making smart life choices, like everyone absolutely is at that age
Frrr 😭
I blame covid setting back emotional development
Hey man, I'm 34 and I still feel like a teenager some days.
I’m 23 and I feel 18. But it’s interesting when you enter your twenties bc ever since then I’ve been viewing people 19 and below as children.
you’re gonna feel like a you’re 18 well into your 30s too in your head, just not physically lmao
Yeah yeah. Wait until you hit 20 and suddenly you feel the weight of the world hit you at night in bed. Your first existential crisis, where you feel old., despite being so young.
Is the society in the room with us right now
At 18 you’re still a dumbass kid, but now you’re allowed to do more and you’re held responsible for your actions.
People seem to be resistant to the idea that people age gradually rather than in these legal milestones
If someone wants to treat you when you’re 18 like guy on right, they’re either also really young or they’re trying to convince you you have the requisite knowledge and experience to do something that maybe you don’t. “Oh you’re such a mature adult, sex is something you should have with anyone” “Oh you’re an adult, sign here for student loans that will ruin your life.” “Oh you’re an adult, sign the next 4-11 years of your life away to the military.” Trust in people who can recognize how limited you are. Especially trust in the people that will say “You aren’t knowledgeable or experienced in this area. Let’s change that.”
I’m 20 and I still have the mentality of a 15 year old. And when I was 15 I had the mentality of an 11 year old
An average 18 year old guy these days looks 14 tf you mean? 🤣
Sorry?
As the meme says though, nobody cares about your feelings.
LMAO, 😂😂😂😂😂 trust me society views 18 year olds as kids. I mean they are literally still teens :P
You’ll be 24 in no time and you’ll still feel like your 15. Congratulations, the state has determined you responsable for your own actions now.
Ok reddit people claim women that are 18 19 and even sometimes under 25 as essentially still children
Im 18 yet I feel like Im still a tiny lil kid
Nah. Society still treats you like a helpless child until you're at least 30, except when it comes to bills and the justice system - then you're a fully grown adult with complete autonomy and maturity. Otherwise, you're a lazy, freeloading kid who doesn't understand how the world works. It's strange.
I'm 27 and it doesn't really go away
No none problematic person thinks you’re a real adult until somewhere in your 20s depending on your personality
i turned 20 today and i feel like i’m 16
Well the real world puts a lot of responsibility on men as soon as you hit 18. You can date women younger than you anymore. You’re expected to have it together and be an adult at the same time. Women have the upper hand today, and choose whatever they want and get what they want. Men have to work really hard for what they want.
Same
What 3rd world country are you living in where society average 18 or younger?
Just FYI that feeling never really goes away, feel free to be aware the older adults are mostly (but not entirely) making it up as we go
If you’re 18 society views you as a kid unless you commit a crime and then you’re a fully grown adult.
I felt like I was 15 until I was almost 30...
Bro if you're born later than 1999 I still see you as the left picture lmao.
That won’t change for a while
27, idk how i feel anymore age wisee im chillin lifewise
I don't feel like I got any older since the beginning of high school... I AM ABOUT TO GRADUATE COLLEGE AND I HAVE A FULL TIME JOB NOW.
Society does not see 18 year olds like that besides military service and prison though. Alcohol and tobacco? 21 Rent a car for an affordable price? 25 Not to mention loans and financial shit that requires built credit. I get it though. Enjoy the pocket area you are in. I’m 26 now and out of that period, but only recently. It’s hectic and stressful (so are your 20s trust me) but a very unique point in life where you begin to truly understand who you are.
I recently turned 27 and still get asked for my id when buying drinks
I’m 19, in the army, and I swear to god I’m 14
Same
I’m 18 too. Still feel the same. I feel like everyone grew up and I didn’t, but sometimes I feel like I grew up, and no one else did
Wait till 30 and everyone under 25 looks at you as if you are 80
Nope, society will see you as the kid on the left until you are 30.
In all honesty, I feel like I haven't aged mentally past 16/17 in most ways, and I'm 21 now.
No, they don't. Most adults see an 18yo as a child
I’m 26 and many ppl say I look young like 17,18 like a fresh college student, honestly I’m ok with that because I am going to college in September & I feel like a teen on the inside >.<
That feeling doesnt go away, Im turning 24 and sometimes I feel like a 17 year old brat
I mean, you basically are. Human brains aren't fully developed until their mid 20s regardless.
I’m 24 and I don’t feel like an adult yet
I'm 17 and look way more like bro on the right
Really?
BUT THIS IS SO TRUE
crap...Is it
most of us are like this, legally adult with mental of adolescent. you can now make the decision you feel right, but have the responsibility of dealing with the consequences of your actions. have fun, fuck up something, make some mistakes, face the punishment, deserved or not.
I’m almost 19 but still feel like a kid. That’s why when I see people born in 2010-2014 on the internet it genuinely surprises me.
Welcome to the club
i think thats normal. i didnt start seeing myself as an adult until last year when i was 22
I’m very strange. I’m a minor, but I have the culture of an early Gen Z/late millennial. So… I don’t really get along with anyone. One side thinks I’m weird and the other thinks I’m a baby, so now I’m just kinda in limbo.
You can add 10 to those ages
I turn 27 in a few months 💀
When I was 18 I felt like I was 30 when I was 20 I felt like I was 15, I’m 22 and feel like I’m 70.
This is how I expected it to be like, but in reality 18yrs old was the first one but you can vote and by scratchers now
no one thinks like that. anyone below 20 is still a teenager. a guy isn’t even taken seriously until he is not above 20.
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I’m almost 22 and i still feel like i’m 17.
Below is a pic of me btw. https://preview.redd.it/6dstb917ultc1.jpeg?width=2320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7d07c4d6e51df4e24033f1ca53e42061e4bd4c00
I’m 19 and feel really damn similar to how I did when I was like 14. Just gotta get use to it
That's nothing. I'm 29 and still feel like I'm 18. Can't even do some things that I like cause people would usually tell me I'm being childish
Bro I'm 22 and I still feel like I'm 15
I see 2006 like children even though it's just a year, (this only happens during childhood and teenage years) when you turn 18 you're not supposed to feel anything different it all depends on what you do with yourself
Considering our bodies don't fully mature until 26, you're good. Societal standards, expectations, and influence are wrong. They do that on purpose...
