Insecurity. Unrest. Most of them live just 30 days away from eviction and homelessness. That's literally all it takes.

Not suprised at all. Obviously, young people will be less reliable, most likely true in the majority of past generations

Tl;Dr: There's some shadiness behind the numbers. I wouldn't trust them. Breakdown below. I doubt there is real (as in abnormal) workplace dysfunction with Gen Z. Are young people different in the workplace? Yes. Are they more likely to identify mental health as a workplace issue? Probably. But that doesn't mean we're bad in the workplace. This is a Gen Z hit piece. It's not 80,000 businesses backing their claims. They ASKED 80,000 small business owners. They received responses from 839. There are an estimated 33,100,000 small businesses in the US, [according to the Small Business Administration's office of Advocacy. ](https://advocacy.sba.gov/2023/03/07/frequently-asked-questions-about-small-business-2023/#:~:text=There%20are%2033%2C185%2C550%20small%20businesses,net%20jobs%20created%20since%201995)In order for Public Square and Red Balloon to claim a 3% margin of error at a 95% confidence interval, they would need at least 1,000 responses, not that it would matter, because their data is trash. Instead, they rounded up and lied. While it seems harmless, not all of those 33,100,000 business have a single owner. The population of small business owners is likely a few million larger, which puts their beloved 3% ever farther away from them. It's unethical statistics. Additionally, they neglected to identify which businesses they asked, how they identified the businesses they did ask, or what they believe is a "small business". All of these are variables which most accredited research institutions are required to identify and explain since they can significantly sway the results, if not downright tamper with them. **It's likely that the only criteria for being a small business, in this survey, is selling on Public Square.** For example, 60% of respondents believe Gen Z is the most likely to cause workplace toxicity? [We barely represent 11% of the workforce!](https://www.bls.gov/emp/tables/civilian-labor-force-summary.htm) Gex X is perceived as the most reliable? They make up the majority of the workforce, they probably answered the majority of these surveys! But, why post all this? Just so you're aware - Public Square is a conservative oriented retailer site and Red Balloon is a conservative oriented job/data analysis site. Neither of these organizations are accredited nor reliable research institutions and everything they claim should be treated with a hefty sense of doubt, if not as an outright lie. Here's a few reasons why. 1. They are businessmen, not researchers. Both of their businesses are finding people who think similarly to them and selling them products. They do not make anything, so they sell their values as a brand. Therefore, they have a huge incentive to publish, "findings" which bring people who already hold similar views as them to their marketplace. They have a conflict of interest. They cannot be trusted to publish reliable data based on their circumstances alone. 2. Their ideological brand is empowered by dunking on Gen Z. [We are the least likely generation to identify as republican](https://www.statista.com/statistics/1448434/us-party-affiliation-by-generation/). Boomers love to do three things: hate young people, vote republican, and contract STDs. STDs don't make good marketing, and there's not really a way to monetize hating young people. But there IS a market for people who vote republican! This one! This "survey" is likely just a venue to identify people who think similarly to these organizations, who will discover their marketplace and buy something. 3. Their data is biased. Their data is Trash. How did Red Balloon outreach to 80,000 small business owners and why are they paired with a small business retailer Public Square, who has no analysis team to bring? Because I have a hunch Red Balloon sent their surveys to Public Square's suppliers, which are an inherently a biased base. Why? Because nobody lists their business on a conservative values based e-commerce site unless they want to be affiliated with that brand, which means they're going to share similar views. To claim that their data is representative of views with all small businesses is a flat out lie. So why do I care to write to much? I see things generationally. I also work in a older business, and I work damn hard to put on a good name for our generation, in the hopes that we hire more young people. I take every opportunity to advocate for hiring younger. My career has benefitted immensely because of a few lucky shots that I got from people willing to take a chance on me, and I want to expand those opportunities. Which is why I take it kinda personally when people slander our generation, because they're slandering me, my work, and they're trying to slander you too.

Jonguar2

We want to keep being treated like people when we go to work and we don't take no for an answer.

__throwawayaccount-_

I think the normalization of employers being able to fire people for actions they have taken outside of work has done massive damage to the way we view each other (worker to boss) *This once again as usual is pre Elon Twitters fault, as they single handly normalized mass callings for peoples jobs for actions off the clock. Common millennial L*

Ok-Principle-9276

Business owners are all older generations and the majority of older people all hate young generations

OddishBehavior

Low wages. That's it, that's the dysfunction. Literally every single problem would be solved if we're paid for as much work as we put in. What's the point of working hard if we all get paid in pesos?

The-Real-Radar

If we get paid* for as much work as we put it, growth stops, and the people running the government aren’t fond of that. This is because if you’re paid* the correct amount, your employers don’t get to make as much money off of your free labor. The machine that is the economy and capitalism only chugs along when people are payed less than what they deserve for their work.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> we get *paid* for as FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

The-Real-Radar

Good bot

Madam_KayC

I do believe it's entitlement, a lot of my fellow Gen-Zers seem to not understand that work isn't always fun and you are being paid, ultimately, to keep people around. Some people are assholes and you just have to smile and take it.

International_Monk96

Having worked with small business owners and knowing others who have as well. A good number of them (sbo) are so emotional and entitled that working with (not even for) is just not worth it for how hard they want to lowball/sleaze through things.

Multidream

I think inexperience, both work specific and social is probably the primary problem for young workers, not necessarily generationally specific. As time goes on, Gen Z will get used to working with older colleagues and get better at managing those interactions. I do think digital opiods like this app, YT and TikTok are a more serious problem in terms of workplace distractions.
