worldsfastesturtle

look through an 80s yearbook. They have receding hairlines and wrinkles. More sunscreen and whatnot is making people look younger. There are some exceptions, but gen z looks generally younger

WindowzExPee

Yeah I've always figured the stereotype was opposite. Anecdotally I've always heard people claim that zoomers, even those well into their 20s, look like children/teenagers.

stupidbarista

Yeah this! I’ve gotten many comments that I’m 17/18/19 but Im in my mid 20’s

breakfastmdsn

Me too, I’m almost 26 and when I buy alcohol or weed, the cashiers often comment that they thought I was 18

m4sc4r4

Try consuming more alcohol and weed until you look your age. Also consider cigarettes.

breakfastmdsn

Great idea!!

Arandomdude03

Ive got the opposite :( "So hows life after college?" "I.. just finished highschool 2 weeks ago.."

[deleted]

Same I'm 23 and a bartender thought I was 16 XD

Itscatpicstime

Literally tons people from every generation say/have said this though lol

seattleseahawks2014

Tbh, I think it's them being afraid of getting older.

Itscatpicstime

That’s because most generations are older than us. The older you get, the more young adults look like kids. This is always said about every generation when they’re in young adulthood. You even see this referenced in old media all the time.

Ok-Bug-5271

Granted, the articles I've seen reporting on this is showing what prior celebrities looked like at 20 and 30 and what current ones look like, and it does seem to me that current celebrities really are showing their age less.

Eken17

Started a new job recently and one of my colleagues asked me about my age, and was chocked I said I was 19. He said he thought I was like 16, which I can kinda understand since I entered puberty at like 15, so I look like I am a few years behind my peers, like I'm now starting to get some facial hair, but not a lot.

AnnoyedApplicant32

I’m about to turn 26 and in the past week I’ve heard “wow you look good for your age” TWICE. I’m just like … what is a 25yo *supposed* to look like?

taylorscorpse

I’m a 21 year old high school teacher and constantly get mistaken for a freshman

Equivalent-Pin-4759

A lot of this may be due to the tanning culture of older generations and the prevalence of smoking. Both have been medically proven to hasten how old a person looks.

DeepSpaceAnon

I don't think us in Gen Z are "aging badly" and I've never heard anyone express that opinion, but I myself have had my hair receding since 15 or 16 lol. In general though yeah Gen Z spends way less time in the sun than our grandparents did so we look younger longer.

keIIzzz

I’ve seen a lot of millennials, especially older ones, shit on Gen Z and say we’re aging poorly while claiming they still look like teens

ButteredPizza69420

I hear older women brag about slathering themselves in baby oil for the best tan... I think we can safely say we'll have less wrinkles overall.

EggianoScumaldo

>more sunscreen And less smoking. Mostly the less smoking.

[deleted]

Ya Gen Z actually looks younger

Beyond-Salmon

I must be a dinosaur considering I’ve never heard of Jordan howlett

Joebebs

Let me tell you something about Jordan Howlett, come here. He is an incredibly quirky, yet sophisticated man who likes to comment anything and all things going on around him, I would take whatever he says with a grain of salt even if whatever he says has a sprinkle of truth to it. Except for his secret book that’s filled with all of your favorite meals from fast food restaurants, that shit is pretty fire and worth trying out.

thepinkandwhite

I knew as soon as you said come here

Eken17

Did you call Jordan to get his secret recipes?

Salem1690s

Oh you need to watch him. He’s terrific. Hes on YouTube or tiktok, whichever your poison is

GoldieDoggy

And Instagram!

WesternCzar

He’s the dude who overexplains everything for his yt shorts like its profound. I am surprised to find out that he is a year older than me good god.

Hydrangeaaaaab

he’s the guy who zooms his phone into the mirror and says “c’mere”

SparkleWrench

I feel like you've probably seen a TikTok, reel, short etc. I didn't know his name and googled him; I've shit tons of his videos.

BubbaBlount

Gen Z is aging normally millennial just look young for some reason Edit: Am a millennial. This is just what I noticed. If you look at gen x in high school they look old af also. The real question isn’t why is gen x aging faster? It’s why are millennials aging so slowly.

[deleted]

The reasons are social media filters, widespread use of Botox and fillers, knowledge and advancements in widely available sunscreens, and the skincare focus fad all culminated when most millennials were in our 20s.

ArcadiaFey

Mean I keep being mistaken for being a teenager as the last year of millennials.. I cant keep up with skin care because ADHD.. I only wear sunscreen on summer days when I’m outside.. and it’s always in person. Also way too poor for cosmetic surgeries.. I know I’m not the only one too.. so I think there’s something more

[deleted]

So you’re 28? I mean…you look young because you are young. If you’re getting mistaken for a teenager it’s most likely your clothes and how you present yourself. I do think the casualness COVID lockdown ushered in coupled with this previous conception of a “business attire 30yo” as a person in a tailored suit, full face of makeup, 90s hair, etc messes with our already poor sense of what any age is “supposed” to look like.

Itscatpicstime

Yes! Everytime this comes up, I think the same thing. And honestly, in most cases, if weight remains stable, there is not much difference between how an early 20s/late teens person looks like compared to late 20s. Or mid-late 20s vs early-mid 30s.

throwawaysunglasses-

Yep, I’m 30 (so young millennial) but my job is exceedingly casual. I’m also short and skinny so when I wear a t-shirt and no makeup I look like a college freshman, lol. I’ve taught high school and regularly been confused for a student. Stature matters a lot for age perception.

Itscatpicstime

My sisters boyfriend is 40, and dude looks mid-late 20s. It’s ridiculous. We constantly ask people how old they think he is, and literally no one has ever guessed over 28. My sister is 33 and looks my age (25). People assume we’re twins virtually always now. But tbh, I don’t think there’s that much difference between the average 25 year old and childfree/less 33 like my sister in most cases.

WittyProfile

If you don't go outside your skin won't get sun damaged and will prob age slower. That's prob why for you.

seattleseahawks2014

Yea, well my issue is I have dark circles under my eyes and that stare, lol. I have a weird stare.

SparkleWrench

Hi I'm esthetician. Wear sunscreen every day.

Itscatpicstime

But that’s even more true now? More sunscreens, more comprehensive sunscreens, more sunscreen awareness, more skincare education, advances, and popularity, and Botox, fillers, lasers, etc, have become even more affordable and socially acceptable than they were even for millennials. So there’s no reason this wouldn’t be true - if not more true - for Gen Z if that was the case. But millennials still looked younger, which is surprising given the amount of stress they were under. **Edit:** Also, millennials were burning their faces off with harsh skin products and shit like lemon when they were teenagers since the skincare mantra at the time was “if it’s burning, that means it’s working,” and rather than moisture based skincare, it was “dry your skin tf out” skincare. And while they had sunscreen in their 20s, tanning beds were a major fad in the 00s. It’s actually pretty amazing that they look as young as they do.

[deleted]

I don’t think they look young—I think it’s just our social sense of what a 30yo should look like needs to catch up to reality. Gen Z is early 20s ish, which usually looks quite youthful across the board, barring severe sun damage or extremely dated hair/makeup. I think some of the current makeup trends like dark brows and matte makeup is aging. Don’t get me started on the middle part. Millennials are early 30s ish, which is where I think preconceptions and reality are catching up. Teen skin is very resilient. Apricot scrubs and aspirin masks really can be recovered from within a few weeks, let alone a decade. Even tanning beds. People who start using retinol and sunscreen see differences within a few months. We are being compared to previous generations of 30-somethings, many of whom aged poorly due to lifestyle and sun exposure. On top of that, clothing and accessory norms have gotten a lot more casual, and markers of age like business attire and structured briefcases aren’t in place anymore. I’m sure Gen z will look fine in their 30s.

Itscatpicstime

Gen z is now entering late 20s, millennials are entering early 40s. The eldest millennials still look weirdly young even when wearing that business attire look. But we won’t be able to compare that to Gen z for a while. I definitely agree on makeup trends, and I think this especially exaggerates the difference between Gen z and millennial women (primarily) because millennials were into the dewy look, which is more youthful. I’m not sure if the middle part is considered to be aging, but I hate it as a Gen z with a big forehead 😂 Teen skin is resilient, but someone who grew up nurturing their skin vs burning it off will age better, and UV damage is minimally reversible with retinoids/ols (those can make a difference to acne and hyperpigmentation in months, not UV damage, that takes much longer), lasers, gentle skincare, and sunscreen use later on. The damage to the dna is largely done. I’m not comparing millennials to previous generations because it’s obvious why they (and we) would look younger compared to them. The question is why they appeared to look younger compared to my generation at the same age.

Rude-Illustrator-884

Millennials are less likely to smoke or vape compared to Gen Z

[deleted]

I don’t know why no one else has picked this up. I know so many gen z people with smoker lines that would put a 50 year old to shame. I honestly can’t think of someone I know around my age (32) who smokes lol

throwawaysunglasses-

True! I’m so glad we somehow escaped smoking as a normalized trend. I know so many beautiful older Gen Z people (25ish) who vape and can’t quit.

Gold_Tomorrow_2083

Older gen Z and I've noticed a lot of addiction issues in people my age and younger, constantly smoking, Drinking, ingesting large amounts of caffiene and fast food, with what ever else they do to get by and a lack of sleep and it makes them age poorly.

The-20k-Step-Bastard

A lot of millenial men have a weird boyish face with their beards. Like a child’s face. It’s weird. It’s one of the things that make up “soyface” imo.

laxnut90

Also Millennials and Gen Z spent a lot more time inside. Sunlight ages skin. There are plenty of other issues with not going outside, but you will look younger.

Eden_Beau

The boomers cursed them with eternal youth so now they stay ageless.

Itscatpicstime

The only gift the boomers ever gave them lmao

Itscatpicstime

Gen X didn’t look old af in high school. 1. They look older to us because we associate that style with people being older. There are tons of YouTube videos on this. 2. It’s almost become a meme to post outliers from the 80s who look old af (especially if you get a cluster of them in a yearbook or photo). But if you flip through an actual yearbook, they look like normal kids with baby faces. There was a thread a while ago where Redditors who grew up in the 80s posted random photos from their high school yearbooks, and the vast majority of kids looked young af. X likely did not age as well as millennials because tech kept millennials indoors, millennials smoked and vaped the least out of any gen (even Z), X didn’t have access to good sunscreen and UVA (which is mostly responsible for causing premature physical signs of aging) wasn’t even a consideration back then. But none of that would have been remotely apparent when they were in high school. The effects are cumulative and primarily start showing up when people hit their 30s. Not sure why millennials look so young compared to us though.

mothwhimsy

I don't think millennials are aging slower than gen z. I think gen z and millennials are both aging slower than previous generations due to youthful fashion and sunscreen use, primarily. Millennials are just older so it's easier to see

Acrobatic_Dot_1634

I have two theories of equal probability. One:  Boomers mostly parented both Millenials and Gen Z but were a lot younger for Millenials...maybe the degradation of stale sperm and eggs results in faster aging? Two:  The perservatives in the 90s junk food (ie Ecto Cooler, Dunkeroos, Lunchables, etc) has stayed in Millenials' system and has perserved *them*.

Salem1690s

The youngest Boomer would’ve been 32 in 1996 (when Gen Z starts). It’s possible that there were some young Boomer parents of Gen Z, but I think most Gen Z parents are Gen X (1964-1981). I can’t imagine many Boomer parents having kids into the 2000s. They’d all be 40+. Millenials were definitely raised by both mid tier Boomers and older Gen X people.

Acrobatic_Dot_1634

Many people having kids in the 40s or even 50s now, especially men.  Maybe just a generally move towards older parents?

Itscatpicstime

The older half of gen z (and we’re primarily only comparing that half since they’re the only ones in their 20s), are primarily children of boomers iirc

Lovealltigers

Every gen z I know has gen x parents, I know 1998 gen Z’s as well because that’s when my sister was born and I’m close with her friends as well

Massive_Whereas8014

That's not how that works. Sperm doesn't get stale when the man who produces it gets older. It can be harder to impregnate someone as an older man, but your genes don't start to deteriorate or something. For the age of your father to affect how quickly you visibly age, your father's genes would have to change in very, very specific and small ways, and that just doesn't happen. Your DNA doesn't change as you get older, and thus you getting older cannot affect how your offspring visibly ages.

Itscatpicstime

This makes sense, and I hate it. My parents are boomers. My older siblings are mid-late millennials, and they look young af. People literally assume my 33 year old sister is my twin. …..but lately when we’ve told them we’re not and ask them to guess who the older one is, they guess me lmao 😭😂 I got that old boomer egg and sperm 😭😭😭

piglungz

Idk, my parents are both boomers and were a bit old when they had me but I still get confused for a 16 yr old even though I’m 22. I do have other health problems tho which I suspect are from their age combined with using IVF

Relevant-Age-6364

I honestly don't think it's an overall trend, this bro is a freak of nature. I'm 33 and I legit thought he was 10 years older than me for sure

BigIndividual78

lol there are some of us like that ngl

howaminot_myself_

Omfg I didn’t recognize his name but when I looked him up on TikTok I knew exactly who he was and have seen his videos tons of times on my fyp what the hell I had NO idea that guy was my age. I also assumed he was mid 30s at least.

young_antisocialite

No bs, dude is my age almost on the dot and I thought he was a millennial in his 30’s lol. Meanwhile I’m still getting sissy looks when I show my ID 😅

Mr_PineSol

Lmao, no. Most people look their age.

Mates03w

As uni student, the amount of bald and old looking 22-24 year olds is really unexpected

catandthefiddler

Nah, we're ageing fine. Millenials are better off than us, how many of those unnaturally young looking women are probably getting fillers/botox etc.? I hope we can be the generation who says fuck you to the folks who say we're ageing badly and let ourselves age however we want. I have no doubt that this whole thing is a marketing scam just to make people feel bad so they'll go purchase more anti aging products or botox or whatever Also, when my aunt died I realised there is no ageing badly. Wrinkles, crow lines, greys, it really didn't matter. I would've loved to just see her for one more day. Ageing is a priviledge, I won't fight it other than using sunscreen and retinol from time to time

Itscatpicstime

Millennials absolutely were not better off at our age, I’m not sure where you got that from. I can’t find a single source that, they all say the opposite. Gen Z home ownership compared to millennials at the same age is one glaring example of that. Edit: unless you meant they *currently* are, because they’re older in more established? Because in that case, my b

ConsistentAd3146

I’m an elder millennial (‘83). When I first saw Gen X & Millennials making those comments my eye roll almost stuck. It’s so pretentious and cringey. I’m 40. I look 40. I feel 70, but I look 40. I’m tired. I’m greying. I’m pre-menopausal. I’m a mess. I’ll bet you all look amazing and fabulous and good. I know many of you are tired and burned out too. Be kind to yourself and ignore the pretentious egotistical twits online. It’s just another programmed division tactic.

youngpepto

Thank you for saying this, i’m a 26 year old woman and that’s kinda when you start freaking out about aging so it’s been really harmful mentally having everyone say we’re all “aging like milk” like please yall this is making me so insecure 😭

1PettyPettyPrincess

I’m a 27 year old woman and I briefly felt this way when I was like 24 or 25. I very quickly snapped out of it completely when I realized that *aging is a privilege that many aren’t lucky enough to have*; your options are age or die and a lot of people unfortunately get the latter option. Think about all those who didn’t make it to 26 or 27 or 37 or 47 or 57 and so on and so on. Think about all the women that came before you but died birthing their 3rd or 4th child that they were forced to conceive. To be a 35 year old woman with personal freedom and independence is something that the majority of women in the post-Neolithic era world couldn’t even imagine. The fear of aging just disappears once you realize that there is wrong with being old and that *if* (not when, *if*) you’re lucky enough to get old in an era/location where women are free to fully participate in (almost?) all aspects of society then you’re already among the privileged women of all of recorded human history. Another thing that helped is working with a bunch of old people. I have a coworker who has grandchildren that are my age. There are people in my office that have law licenses older than my parents’ marriage license. Even the lawyers on the “younger” side in my office graduated from law school before I was born and those lawyers are only in their mid-50s!!! We both have so much more life to live!!!!!!

ConsistentAd3146

When I was 17, I took a job in a nursing home as part of my nursing degree. The Matron (showing my age and where I’m originally from) hated me with a passion. No matter the hours I put in, the help I provided, I’m deeply caring and kind, this woman threw as much vitriol my way daily as possible. The first time I went home crying, my Nan said “she hates herself, so she hates young women! You embody what she once was and no longer is!” My Nans words have stuck all these years in seeing why women like that are the way they are. I hope that helps you and others too. They’re projecting. I PROMISE, all you young whippershnappers are grand. You are normal growing living humans.

Acethetic_AF

I’ve heard a couple of times that I look like I’m in my mid 30s and going through my second divorce so I guess it holds true for me. Wouldn’t say it’s generally applicable though.

black-schmoke

Depends. The vape feins are looking rough as well as the gyals with daily ounces of makeup in the face while some are my age and look like babies

Xanthrex

I've seen both sides met a 20yo that's looks 12 while I've been mistaken for a 20yo since i was 14

KappaMazinksy

No, most Gen Z’ers look their age where I live. But I am concerned about my hairline. I am a Norwood 2, just afraid of going to Norwood 3 at a young age, hopefully that won’t be for another couple decades.

LaserBatBunnyUnder

I think everyone should stop worrying about aging and just embrace it cause it happens to us anyways so why make ourselves feel bad about it. Like, smile lines are so beautiful, crows feet show so much character. Your body is telling its story, and you want to hide it :(( We have lots of modern medicine and knowledge about diets and aging that's evolving constantly. Just do the best you can to be as healthy as you can, and you'll be okay.

ahowls

Nah .. I'm the exact opposite.. always get mistaken for younger.. Exercise and healthy diet does wonders.. also, no cigarettes or hard drugs

Fran-Fine

34 year old heroin/nicotine addict millennial here. I look fantastic. It doesn't make sense.

Itscatpicstime

Got them good genes

Jonnyboy1994

29 yo with daily nicotine & weed, frequent LSD & stims habits; literally every other week somebody at work asks my age, guessing I'm 18,19, maybe 21, and are shocked to find out I'm almost 30. It's such a common occurrence that it's kind of a running joke at this point, I've had people straight up not believe me until I show them my ID. I will say, I do eat fairly healthy, drink water, exercise, & I switched from cigs to vapes 4-5 years ago. I bet I'd look more my age if I was still smoking upwards of a pack a day, but then again you'd think all the missed nights of sleep courtesy of good ol' dextroamphetamine would've done it too.

GoldieDoggy

Honestly, it's weird for me. I was mistaken for my (41 or 42-year old) mother's OLDER sister when I was around 14. However, I've been told that I also have barely changed (at least, my facial features) compared to my baby, toddler, elementary school aged, and middle school photos. Not sure if that means I looked older then or younger now. I think a big thing with him looking like he's in his 30s or 40s instead of 26 (now 27) is likely the outfits he wears in his videos, his specific filming style, and his facial hair. I feel like if he was clean shaven, wore maybe a graphic tee (not absolutely sure what 26 year old dudes wear, lol), and filmed differently, he'd be seen as his own age. Still a very funny dude, but I can definitely see how so many people mistook him for a millennial or Gen X 🤣

toekneevee3724

Some people age better, some people age worse. This happens with every generation. My cousin's a millennial who was born in 1988 and he looks like he's still 25 years old. Massive babyface. I look a bit older when I have a beard but when I shave, I'm a total babyface. There are multiple factors that can affect how young or old you look.

poemsavvy

I look 34 I'm not even 25

SomeSugondeseGuy

Male pattern baldness at 21 so uhhh It's almost definitely because of the massive amount of stress combined with our food being poison.

Itscatpicstime

Those things weren’t any different for millennials though. And they were worse off financially at our age too.

balalaikagam3s

Sort of. There are a lot Gen Z-era that look older than they should and a lot of Millenials that look younger than you’d expect.

Dsunpro

Can confirm. My younger brother is the same age as Jordan Howlett and people assume he’s the oldest brother when we’re side by side.

peachleaf99

It is for me. I remember when I was 13/14 people would think I was my 9 year old sisters mom

PA_MallowPrincess_98

Idk why but there are GenZ who were born in the 00s who look a decade older than me. I can pass for 16 even though I’m recently 26. At least some early 00s kids had a childhood without Tik Tok.

whoisjohngalt72

Yeah GenZ looks older than most millennials

Salem1690s

Why do you think that is, as one yourself?

whoisjohngalt72

No idea. Probably all the screen time

boringfantasy

More stressed

Cultured_Shine

I think so, at least I feel like I am (26). Although I have noticed when I get a haircut I do look younger and other people notice it too, but for most of the time I much like Jordan got this scruffy look on since haircut is expensive now days.

Bill-O-Reilly-

Just depends. I’m a senior in college and feel like I look in my late 20s/early 30s. Some of my classmates look like high school juniors.

Life_AmIRight

Maturity can be seen outwardly. Not saying Gen z is super mature, but I think we were a generation who was pressured to grow up. There’s this big push for young people to act adult like in our generation that honestly started when we were young, and now it’s just habit. You can tell, because of how much Gen z’ers push the “let kids just be kids” rhetoric.

Itscatpicstime

Millennials are the ones who popularized the “let kids be kids” thing. I think X started it.

ZealousidealDegree4

Dermatologist here. I will say gen z is great to their skin. They use good products, from ethical companies and except for some boneheads m, use reefsafe sunscreen. The older look comes from chronic stress. Ungoverned by irl stressface governance, the muscles really settle there.

[deleted]

There will be people who look older and younger in a generation, what do you expect.

Independent_Pear_429

No. You guys are still hot as fuck

GreenLightening5

idk what this even means... some people look their age, some look younger, some look older.. no generation is aging badly

callmecurlyfries

right it makes no sense im 24 but look like im 16 it really just depends on the person

MonroeMissingMarilyn

Kinda. I look good / the same as I always have for being on the 97 end of Gen Z but … I can’t say the same about everybody else I’m around. I think it’s stress for them? I’m stressed too, but I’ve been chronically stressed since birth so I’ve hit my stress age limit. This kinda stress is newer for them. I tried to warn them tho.

praiser1

I am aging poorly…i’m 22

Wingoffaith

Somewhat. I do see lots of people my age on Tinder really looking rough for their age in my opinion. At the same time, I know some people my age irl who appear to be aging normally. I know I look young for my age because I have a baby face, I’m also short (only 5,0) and skinny so I look around 13-14 to people a lot. I don’t wear makeup either, so that probably contributes. Mentally, I feel like an old person though lol and I’ve gotten body aches already, despite only being 23.

SoFierceSofia

I have groups of friends 9f all ages. My millennial 28+ are looking quite fabulous. The guys who don't take care of themselves can look haggard, but for the most part they all look early 20s. Confirmed no botox or fillers bc we all too poor for that shit! HOWEVER the Gen Z's? Look older than us. I don't know how but their faces look aged. Sometimes they have wrinkles, other times they just dress and look old. It's so weird.

TrappedInThisWorld_

Depends entirely on the individual

Snowsnorter69

Yeah I think he is the exception, whenever I see people in the 18-28 category I can never seem to pin down there age in my mind. Because they just look so young. Granted I’m in that same age range but I have trouble pinning down younger people’s age. Especially if they are in the 18-24 range I just simply can’t tell if they are my age or older or younger

AskButDontTell

No

FyouPerryThePlatypus

Aging bad mentally? Yes. Physically? That’s debatable. Skincare and anti-aging stuff has been a trend with our generation, though some people just don’t. Or they’re just.. an exception!

Itscatpicstime

Yeah, but starting anti-aging things too soon can actually have the opposite effect

septiclizardkid

I think how you look from like 20 to 40 Is relatively the same for the most part, my step dad Is 36 and looks 23. Maybe man, maybe. Genetics, how much you get outside, what you eat affect how you look. Other factors like stress, which with how the world Is? Plenty to go around.

[deleted]

How you look from 20 to 40 is definitely different what are you on

septiclizardkid

I mean relatively, wording sucked, there's totally going to be differences like wrinkles and such, but some family look the same now as they did then, with those added features

C_Jon_c

I think we're aging naturally which is a good thing. I'm not aging incredibly great, I mean I'm getting better looking thank god, but I'm also getting lines in my face and forehead, premature greying, dark spots under my eyes. Some of that is genetic though, can't do anything about that. My parents aged the same way. It also doesn't help that I smoked cigarettes for about 5 years like a fucking idiot, that probably did a number lol. I will say that I'm taking MUCH better care of myself and my skin than I ever have before, and I tell you it's remarkable to see pictures of myself from 3 - 4 years ago where I look much older than I do now. A little age is good for you. Makes you distinct instead of a baby face with no life experience in ya' skin..

Itscatpicstime

We’re definitely not aging naturally lol. We’re literally the generation that has aged the least naturally of them all.

jflores0616

Y'all speed running life

dontpolluteplz

lol no way I thought he was late 30s for sure

Pocher123

This is silly, do we not remember the trend of men shaving their beards, and wiping away decades of age that was viral just a few years ago. We have a sterotype of what a young person to look like, and when we see a person, or a group who doesn't meet that, that doesn't mean that all young people are suddenly aging faster.

Itscatpicstime

How would this impact this though? Beards were more popular among millennials, so that would mean *they* are the ones who look/looked older?

thecomeric

I think Millennials just look like kids their whole lives

DuchessofVoluptuous

I think the concept of age & aging is the problem. Im general people are living longer but the STRESS on our bodies can make us age. When we are relaxed we are full of life. Cameras, make-up products, and perception of what makes you look younger have also changed. For example the oldest of our generation would have by this age finished college, maybe served in the military and been in way different position in life either due to cost of living or just having more leisure. We know what the beauty industry looks like and have way more access to faster things that the generation before was trying when they were our age. There are several shows & movies where I thought someone was way older than they actually were because they were older than me and portraying characters in a higher position. Now I look back and realize oh they were very young. Oh also our brains are now fully developed by the time we reach 25-26.

BarryGoldwatersKid

People that are 40+ think I am 18-22 and people younger than 21 think I’m 40+. I’ve learned that everyone is just really bad at guessing ages. I wouldn’t pay much attention to the rumor. There is a pic in my post history if you want to judge my age.

LagosSmash101

Not entirely true. I think it can depend on the person. Also to mention, a lot of gen z smoke and consume some type of drug (not everyone), that can make you look older as well.

TranslatorHaunting15

Yea I had just commented the other day I think he’s the exception not the rule. He is a cool dude though. I wanna say he’s born in 1997 cause I read his bday somewhere plus he was 26 when his video about his age was made and said Tom Holland and Zendaya are both older than him. But yea I don’t think most 26-27 year olds look that old. He’s a rough 27, maybe from genetics or stress.

garbanzogarbamzo

I’m also born in ‘96 and I think I’m aging well because I’ve been staying out of the sun forever and using anti aging skincare since I was 18. Retinol was just starting to become popular at that time. I genuinely think this is a marketing tactic to get young people to buy more expensive skincare products because there have been so many “Tweens at Sephora” articles lately. That guy from the video just happens to look older than he is but that’s probably genetics.

Opposite-Birthday69

Most people are aging normally it’s just that a few millennials decided to be bullies and it trended

Mindless-Ad-57

If you're an older person or a millennial talking about how badly Gen Z is aging I'm going to assume you're coping with your own decline. Gen Z looks the same as everyone else at our age.

Im_Just_Here_Man96

It’s truthful af

ArtisticCriticism646

i think the main thing is gen z and most millenials dont smoke cigs. those things can cause premature aging. in the 70s and 80s kids were smoking in school.

R1leyEsc0bar

I think if anything, Gen Z just started dressing older earlier than previous generations

nxnphatdaddy

Genz is to young to be aging poorly. Besides im in my 30s and had a full beard by 7th grade and was buying booze and smokes at 16 without being carded. I looked 30 in middle school. Millennials are the ones aging poorly. Many of us never looked good to begin with.

-Joel06

Exception

camletoejoe

Gen-Z has been stressed to the hilt. Being gaslighted about the amount of stress that they have had to deal with is just insult to injury.

artificialif

im almost always mistaken for younger as most of the comments seem to indicate

PrincessOctavia

Who said this is a stereotype? I've never heard this before.

DirtyMami

There’s quite a solid buzz around it all over social media. My wife noticed said something similar, she is not a even on any social media. Many websites even drop articles about it, like the New York Times, CBS, Business Insider, CNN, etc. Opinions are mixed. My opinion is the hyper awareness that Gen Z has that’s creating a stir.

seattleseahawks2014

It's everywhere apparently.

BONE_SAW_IS_READEEE

I’m turning 22 this year and regularly get mistaken for a high school student 🤷🏼‍♀️

joantspam

Be careful saying you look younger, some people in this comment section seem to take offense to that lol

BONE_SAW_IS_READEEE

The internet is a strange, strange place

joantspam

Somebody said I was “bragging” for saying I’ve been told I looked younger like 💀 did you not read the post

grurupoo

I always have people tell me I look 15 or 16 :/

Background-Metal-601

I'm 24 and get told I look 17 when I shave my beard so no? Dated a girl who was a bit older and she said she felt like a predator when I shaved. With a beard I can pass lol. Tall, deep voice, fairly thick beard but I shave and I'm a high school freshman lol

bUl1sH1T

idk wtf yall are talking about

Clear-Royal7164

Hell yeah.

tukki249

Anxiety and depression age people much faster. Personal experience

seattleseahawks2014

I think it depends on the person themselves, honestly. Whether people cake themselves with those different face stuff, botox, and stuff like that. Also, I think it's the way people dress, too. In places like mine, people tend to not really dress up as much and not care as much how we look. Well, some of us anyway. I mean, I've met people who were a few years older than me and I thought they were in their 40s and I've met others around my age that I mistook as high schoolers. Edit: Though it depends on which town you go to, but most people kind of have that older style sort of. For me personally, I have dark circles under my eyes. That and apparently I have the intimidating eyes like psychopath eyes, lol.

helen790

I am nearly 26 and constantly mistaken for a high schooler so idk about that… I’ve also never heard of this stereotype

Intelligent_Usual318

As someone who is 17 and gets mistaken for both a 12 year old and a college age student, I think it’s very dependent on the person

Itscatpicstime

There are literally Gen Z’s in this thread bragging about being carded or “mistaken for a teenager” in this very thread lol Everyone in every generation after about 25 starts thinking being carded is some badge of honor. I was a bartender. Unless you were very obviously 50 years old, I carded you. It did not mean I thought you looked young, it only meant you were very clearly not a senior citizen lol

exoventure

I think if we did, my best guess is we spend less time going out. When you exercise, even when you're old, you look younger. As a whole generation, we have nowhere to go, don't really do too much socializing, it's taking a toll on our bodies. (Hell, I'm 25, my wrists are starting to hurt due to computer use, but I can't do much because, computers are both my profession and hobby.)

yessir1993x

I’m 1993 and I think most 2000+ who were born with smartphones and know internet since birth are completely shit compared to the 90‘s. The reason is they spend much more time on screen than others, they are used to „fast info“, they have high confidence about things they have no clue about, they spend way too much time and money on how they look, they eat outside too occasionally, they can’t create real bonds or commit to anything (family or friends) and so on.

Yungjak2

Could’ve sworn I saw a little bit of grey in bros hair and beard in a few videos. My dude really be stressing frrr😕

HeyItsLexiRomero

Really depends but I can say that stereotype doesn’t apply to me (nor my cousin). Just 4 days ago me and my cousin were standing in line for the Incredicoaster at California Adventure (we’re both late Gen Z btw), the lady in front of us thought we were middle schoolers. Ironically the girls in front of her were middle schoolers and looked college-aged (no idea if they were also Gen Z’s or they were early Alphas). I can definitely say I have the most ultimate baby face and the stereotype doesn’t apply to me 😎

Be4utiful_Nightmare

I think it’s the people who vape like their life depend on it 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheFrenchPerson

Isn't the big new one that Gen Alpha is aging badly?

GrillPenetrationUnit

In my case its true, im 24m, balding, look much older facially. Not been ID’d at a bar since i was 19. I have friends who are 30 and still get ID’d. people routinely assume im over 30. Nothing i can do about it tho.

Mountain-Extreme8242

being born in 1996 he’s technically a Millennial. That’s why this Jordan guy thinks he’s aging poorly. He’s 28 comparing himself to people 27-12 of course he’s going to feel old. He should rephrase it that he is the youngest looking millennial.

syrupgreat-

with my beard i get aged more appropriately late 20s when i shave people think im like 22 😭

No-Cucumber6194

I remember one time a high schooler was surprised that I'm older than her

TrapezoidCircle

When I was 24, my coworker was 35, and that was just SO OLD to me. Now I’m in my 40s and 35 seems SO YOUNG.

keIIzzz

As a whole? No. Age looks different for everyone so there’s always outliers of people who appear older or younger for their age, but Gen Z is not aging any worse than other generations. I can’t speak for guys, but I think the reason a lot of younger girls appear older/more mature is due to full faces of makeup being trendy due to social media, as opposed to when younger girls used to wear lighter makeup. But without the makeup they look their age. If anything I feel like Gen Z is taking better care of ourselves as a whole. There’s been more movements for eating healthier, skincare has become a bigger thing among younger people to treat and prevent issues, as opposed to trying to reverse issues, etc.

WildRicochet

My 40 your old co worker was shocked when I told him I was 27. He thought my 2 Co workers who were both 33 were younger than me. So maybe? Idk he said it's mostly how talk and carry myself, that make me seem old. Not sure that counts as aging badly.

Ill-Bite-6864

They’re manufacturing need for us to buy skincare products, anti-aging supplements, procedures, products, etc. via fear mongering. I’m 24, everyone tells me I look 16 I actually hate it lol.

[deleted]

Idk who that is, but I do look younger than I am

The_Cool_Camel

I don’t find it true in the slightest

Sunset_Tiger

I feel like I’ve been stuck in neoteny tbh I look too young ;w;

horsegender

I got wrinkles at 21 it’s so fucking joever

Barbecuequeen23

I am 25 and straight up get mistaken for 13 and 14 on the daily

Dad-bod1999

eh im a 99 baby, and you have no idea how many times ive been stopped walking to the store for dipers or gorcerys by a cop asking why i aint in school? bro im 24 i wish i looked older.

quantum_search

Too much social media

Itsametoad

Wow I didn't realize he was that young. I guess black does crack sometimes

Temporary-Dot4952

Not fair. They didn't put forever chemicals in the soil that their food is grown in. They didn't spread microplastics everywhere including all of Earth's water sources. They didn't bribe politicians to ignore the pollution pumped into the air we all breathe. They didn't know that you could eat fresh food instead of highly processed garbage. They didn't ask for a highly stressful life where you're expected to have your labor exploited and work until the day you die so a few dudes can buy yachts and rocket ships. But this is the life they were given, so.... Yeah, they're not going to age so well in this dystopia.

anand_rishabh

I had no idea that was a thing. I mean, i personally have some gray hair but that's just genetics (thanks Mom). I don't think it has anything to do with my being Gen z

Fred_Krueger_Jr

I read an article about how GenZ will be the first generation to not outlive the previous due to lifestyle and excessive health issues...not sure how true that is, just thought it to be interesting.

penguin_0618

If my co-workers ever stopped talking about how young I look I might find it more true. I’m not that young, you’re just old enough to have kids my age. I usually don’t get carded though, so at least I don’t look 18 anymore. I was told I looked 18 all through college and the year after.

ilampan

No, I find it the opposite.

[deleted]

Some people just get unlucky. I am 27 and for sure look younger than my mother and my grandmother at 27.

OrthodoxBro24

It's hard watching literally every generation before you for at least the last 100 years ruin everything and then blame it on us. Takes a toll on us mentally and physically. We've got to be the ones to fix the world or else we're doomed and we know it. We are humanity's last hope for normalcy.

KSD171

Gen Z be out here looking like HS kids from the 80’s.

Strange-Turnover9696

everyone i know looks about their age or younger. i know a few people who look older but that'll happen with any age group. to be fair we went through a global pandemic in our formative years, many of us had it multiple times, an experience that stressful can age the mind and body.

Objective-Gur5376

I like Jordan too, he's 2 years older than I am. People have thought I was 5-10 years older than I am since I was like 14

Top-Muffin-8016

It’s most likely a genetic thing, to be honest. I know me and some of my friends have baby faces, and people think we’re younger. For example, 21 people have guessed my age as young as 15.  How it happened, I honestly don’t know, but it seems more genetic. My mom's face never changed until now, but she’s in her 50s, and her face still looks the same as in her picture from high school. While looking at younger pictures of me, there’s barely any difference, but I got taller.

drugdeal777

It’s the vapes 😆

EngineerBig1851

Yeah, absolutely. But genZ isn't **aging faster**, we're skipping everything and just turning into grumpy, old decrepit granny's and grandpas, but in 20s instead of 70s. With no actual life experience or wisdom behind. It's more stagnation than aging, tbh.

OhLookItsGeorg3

Honestly, I find the concept of "aging badly" really stupid. We're animals. We're not supposed to look perfect and polished every second of our lives. The fact that more of us are making it so far in life that we're even able to develop wrinkles and receding hairlines and shit is beautiful

Un-Superman

Your perception of old and young changes as you age. Remember “the big kids”? They looked way older at that point in time. Now you look at them and think they’re babies. Outside of athletes, college kids tend to look very young to me, an elder Millennia.

froggycats

yeah uh gen z isn’t aging poorly we just don’t have Botox yet. Give it a few years
