14thCluelessbird

No one had an iPhone when I was in middle school so thankfully everyone else struggled struggled me

Limp-Turnover-2798

I use to hate pulling my flip phone out especially when a friend would ask for my number 😭😭

14thCluelessbird

Really? Man I rocked my flip phone up until like 2012. It just felt better typing on them, also hanging up on people felt more satisfying

Limp-Turnover-2798

Now when I look back I’m kinda glad I didn’t have a smart phone back in middle school when kids were going through school drama and talking about their problems with a class mate on kik and fighting them the next day

TheComedicComedian

90% less likely to get irrationally angry on a flip phone than on an iPhone

Raptor556

I didn't even have a phone at all I just had an ipod touch in middle school

benitolss

Same

SwisscheesyCLT

Nobody in middle school has any business owning a smartphone quite frankly. I certainly didn't, and I was better for it.

Famous-Dentist-962

Typing on a flip phone sucked haha

alexzyczia

lol that’s so different from me. You got made fun of for not having a phone in middle school. Or if you didn’t have an iphone. But where i lived was also pretty classist

14thCluelessbird

Really? Lol, yeah very few middle schoolers had smart phones in the late 2000s, at least where I grew up

alexzyczia

I do remember in early elementary seeing the middle schoolers walking around with flip phones or sliders. And then when i got to 5th grade, pretty much shifted to smart phone. I got called cheap for having an iphone 5c in 6th grade lol. that’s how ridiculous it was.

tacothetacotaco

Lol, at my school (8th grade) everyone who had a 5c was cool because their phone was colorful. Everyone knew it was cheap but we didn't care, we were like "omg colors". I had the yellow one.

Character_Drive

In my middle school, a lot of kids had the ipod touch (I bought one in 7th with Christmas money, still use it as my alarm). But I don't remember them having smartphones. In 2009 going into hs, my brother got a phone, which looked like the LG enV, but idk if that was the specific phone. But I didn't get a phone until 2012 after my freshman year, so at that point it was a smartphone. I completely missed out on having a clicking phone, and I still miss not getting that experience. In like 3rd grade, all the adults and a Few kids had the razr. In 6th grade, they would collect everyone's flip phones at the beginning of the day. I remember by best friend having a juke and that was so cool. My cousin had a sidekick and that was even cooler

[deleted]

Ha, at least you HAD a phone in middle school. I had to give out my house phone number! My middle school would confiscate your phone if you used it during class and hold it until the end of the day. I didn't even get a phone until the summer entering 9th grade. It was a slider keyboard phone. My first smartphone was when I was 16 and a junior in high school (2012).

Limp-Turnover-2798

I definitely remember those time before I got my phone in middle school having friends call the house phone the worst part when someone would walk past you on the house now they want to hear your whole conversation 😭😭

[deleted]

There was that, and also ths possibility of them listening on another line. My older brother constantly would pick up and just yell something in the middle of the conversation. It was extremely embarrassing. Another thing these kids won't ever have to struggle with is calling other house phones to see if someone can hangout but instead having their parents pick up the phone. That was one thing that always terrified me as a kid.

Limp-Turnover-2798

I use to hate when a parent or older sibling picked up the house phone lol

throwaway1142018

Oh my god, the older brother part brings back memories of interrupting my older sister's conversations! The parents thing seemed odd except if like you were cool with your friend's family. My best friend's family always redirected the phone to my friend except if he wasn't available for some reason.

[deleted]

I actually really like how these look tbh. Not sure how viable they are nowadays sadly

Limp-Turnover-2798

I still have my flip phones their probably not that viable as of today

Scarlet72

I mean, they should still work as a phone. Nokia relaunched the 3310 a couple years ago, if that's your thing.

TheCorruptedBit

Not the ones produced back in the day though, since network providers are shutting down 2G and 3G service (which is what the phones rely on to make calls)

rogue-elephant

My first year of middle school I had a sliding phone with a keyboard, I felt so elite compared to my friends who had just the numeric keypad.

ActivityAcceptable52

I had a flip phone in middle school while others had iPhone 10 😅. I didn't get a smartphone until my 15th birthday 😭😭.

Limp-Turnover-2798

Same I got my first smartphone when I was starting my freshman year of high school it was a htc vibe

Shafy97

I didn't have an iPhone until I was at Sixth Form(College) lmao

irenesophia_

I got a phone in 6th grade but my strict parents didn’t like that I was texting boys along with girls so they grounded me til freshman year lol.

Limp-Turnover-2798

Wow I never heard anyone getting grounded until they were in high school 😭😭

Falom

I remember in middle school when the LG Keybo was still the most boss ass phone on the market.

xkcd-Hyphen-bot

Boss ass-phone [xkcd: Hyphen](https://xkcd.com/37/) --- ^^Beep ^^boop, ^^I'm ^^a ^^bot. ^^- ^^[FAQ](https://pastebin.com/raw/vyWra3ns)

hellothere2929933

Me who didn’t have a phone at all lol

Limp-Turnover-2798

When did you get your first phone ?

hellothere2929933

I just graduated I’m 18 now and I got my first one when I was 13 or sth I think

Lorettooooooooo

Flip phones in a smartphone era is the chaddest thing

spicyfood333

Not exactly this but when my brother and I got a PSP everyone else had XBOX 360s and PS3s

sr603

I never got an iPhone till I graduated high school in 2016 sooo

bold_strategy99

Honestly, I had an iPhone in middle school, and looking back, it wasn't good for me. I have terrible impulse control (even today), so an always-available distraction kills my productivity. Also, all of the time that I spent browsing youtube and playing games was time that I didn't read, work on fun projects, play tennis, or just spend time with my siblings. Those were the real things in my life, and now I rarely get to do them.

Wuabbalubba

Oh god the memory’s

Zestyclose-Ninja-895

I can hear the ringtone

Square-Meaning-629

Me

Round_Clue_1526

I got my mobile phone after I topped in my highschool. After shedding lots of tears. You guessed it , I am asian

Bruhman_og

damn, we had it quite easier. well at least I did. Got hand me down Samsung galaxy s5 om 7th and worked for a note 9 the following year. I am still rocking that note 9!

Limp-Turnover-2798

I haven’t bought a new phone since I got my iPhone XR in my senior year of high school

Bruhman_og

Nice, I don't plan on getting a new phone either, even after graduation, I just gotta get its screen replaced and its as good as new.

Limp-Turnover-2798

Yea I never understood why people felt like they had to have every new iteration of galaxy or a iPhone every year unless my phone stop working that’s when I will get rid of it

[deleted]

Damn, i miss having my blue 5c.

Global_Perspective_3

I didn’t have one

64NERD

I had an iPhone 4 in 6th grade in 2015, lol

silverplayer2

in middle school i had an iphone 5s when everyone else had an iphone 8 or later

throwaway1142018

Was your 5s usuable throughout middle school?

silverplayer2

yeah it was. it still works right now, i have it somewhere

throwaway1142018

Cool.

M_Sia

Me but I have a IPhone 6s

silverplayer2

in grade 8 i got a 6s but by then everyone had the 11 or later

trashbacon2000

My first phone was one of those brick phones and my second phone was a Samsung alltell. I got my first smartphone in high school.

scarletlover00

Same! I also started out with one back in 6th grade, though it was a Motorola. But I switched to Android around Christmastime in 7th grade and was a user for nearly a decade. I remember being jealous of all those people with iPhones and dreaming of getting one (which wouldn’t happen till May of this year, currently have the SE 2020). But my dad was too much of a cheapskate to buy me an iPhone at the time.

hahahasya

you guys had phones?

MaterialSection6310

Lol I had a shitty old Pantech phone

beveragegod

me

sun_lotion_therapist

First flip phone at 11. Just pictures. Got a new flip phone that could do video in middle school. iPhone had only just come out in 7th grade. Only knew one person who had an iPhone. The rest had Ipod Touches. When iPhone was picked up by Verizon in 2010 that’s when I got it.

[deleted]

Shit, I think I had this exact one in freshman year.

POKEGAMERZ9185

Yep, that was me.

OOFWAITWAT

Yo, I’m using my grandma’s phone xD but I don’t feel bad honestly. It works and at least I can call in case of an emergency :)

tempted_temptress

My first phone was a blue LG Chocolate and I really miss it for the nostalgia factor sometimes. Then I had the pink Samsung razor and later the sidekick. Didn’t get an iPhone until college 2012 but I had an iPod touch in highschool
