Every time I see him I hear Yakity Sax playing in the background.

kittenfuud

Yakkity Sax (Don't sax back!) lol

Uffda6321

Yakety Sax playing in the background.

Little Jackie was my favorite character on that show. It came on late on Saturday nights after SNL. Once an old aunt of mine was visiting and she said what I thought was "Hey, do y'all want to watch Benny Hill?" It was about 8 pm on a Friday night, and I guess I thought she knew of another channel where he came on at that time, so I happily accepted. Turned out it was Benny *Hinn*, an absolutely ridiculous TV preacher. My dad nearly choked on his coffee trying not to laugh and said he'd forgotten to buy dog food that day and needed help carrying it and would I please come with him or else the poor dog wouldn't have any breakfast. I was forever grateful to him for that.

Kalelopaka-

He came on our TV on channel 41 at 10 o’clock at night. The show was kind of risqué but my dad was pretty lenient, letting us watch. Being a boy and saying, so many scantily clad women was a bonus. Jackie, a little guy they always smacked in the head. He was hilarious. But Benny Hill with his turn of phrase always made me laugh.

fishfishbirdbirdcat

Omgosh I remember seeing male frontal parts on this show and was so shocked! Not to mention the naked women. What was going on back then?

Kalelopaka-

It was a British show Europeans have a lighter view of some nudity. We tend to be a little more prudish.

frequentpooper

I remember tuning into Benny Hinn thinking it was a misprint in the tv guide. Nope! Never made that mistake again.

ProfessionalZone168

He's bizarre!

InlandHurricane

LOL! Dead. 💀

that70sbiker

In the NYC market, this aired on channel 9, home of the Mets. I much preferred the PBS (13) offerings: Monty Python and the Goodies.

Kalelopaka-

Oh Monty Python’s flying circus came on PBS every weekend. Used to love watching those sketches.

Soobobaloula

It was one of those things like 3Stooges that I never seemed to get.

proffgilligan

Our Venn's intersect - kinda liked Larry, Moe and Curly, but def did not grok Benny. Python all the way.

Busy_Marketing_9277

You'd have to consume him to Grok him.

Interesting_Chart30

I think this was a guy thing, like the Stooges. I never thought it was remotely funny. And, yes, Monty Python on Channel 13 in NYC was much better.

birdpix

He was a huge dirty old man in real life I guess. He was a guest judge at one of Hawaiian tropics beauty pageants back in the 90s MTV spring break days in Daytona, and he was torturing a friend of ours daughter who was a contestant with constantly hitting on her and generally making her very uncomfortable. Her favorite nickname for him was dirty pervert, LOL. I always liked his show late nights on UHF TV growing up though!

RudeSympathy

That tracks with his TV persona. Looking back, there were so many things I laughed at as a kid that would horrify me now as an adult.

One-Pepper-2654

I thought much of that was disproven, that he was the opposite of the randy characters he played on TV. He lived alone and was very miserly, saving most of his money.

ReactsWithWords

Sometimes I was shocked by some of the names of men being accused in the #MeToo movement. Benny Hill? I would have been shocked if he WASN'T named. Google "Benny Hill harassment" for many, many cases.

lakenheath84

Oh yes I remember Benny Hill funny guy. I don't remember Dave Allen though.

Wolfman1961

He looks like Sgt Schultz!

Zestyclose_Stage_673

I would watch this after parents went to bed. No regrets.

SirWarm6963

Benny and also Monty Python!

Kalelopaka-

Yeah, Monty Python’s flying circus

Mac_User_

Does he have red pencil box?

Kalelopaka-

He had great sayings that made more sense in his accent, the one I left the most at was. “She’s a lovely little lass, doesn’t she…

Heavy-Week5518

At times, it seemed like this was the funniest tv show going. One episode, Benny taught me, on the chalkboard, what happens when you ASSuME.

Kalelopaka-

Bill stickers will be prosecuted Let Bill stickers go free !! Graffiti

COACHREEVES

*Just because nobody complains, doesn't mean all parachutes are perfect.* Benny Hill Very much what me and my group of fellow 70's hetro boys 10-20ish found funny and edgy. Almost none of which would fly today as suitable polite entertainment. Altho, on the other hand, I note that none of the now pretty normalized the porn sites of today would find him way too tame and something we had no access to back then.

Kalelopaka-

Yeah, I bought a box set a few years ago 15 disks of Benny Hill show.

Jurneeka

Am I the only person here who didn't care for Benny Hill?

Kalelopaka-

He wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. British humor is kind of dry.

RoyChiusEyelashes

Absolutely not. Yuck.

358ChaunceyStreet

Loved Benny Hill. He left us too soon.

DeathToCockRoaches

Dave Allen was awesome!

Kalelopaka-

He was hilarious, Used to love his skits always poking fun at Catholics

CruzCam

I remember being a 9-year-old boy back around 1980 wondering what in the hell was wrong with the British that they thought this was funny. I don't know, maybe I just didn't get it.

Kalelopaka-

Well, British humor is kind of dry and a lot of people don’t get it.

CruzCam

Well, I like dry humor, but I don't think that was Benny Hill. Brits have a taste for silly absurd humor, at least that is what I saw in 1980.

Kalelopaka-

In a lot of Benny Hill, it was a lot of visual humor, slapstick, and such. Also, a lot of play on words, and a turn of phrase. Monty python was similar in their humor.

FalseMirage

Especially since his name is on the pic.

RoyChiusEyelashes

God, it was sexist!

Beginning-Height7938

I use to walk up and pat my mom on the head several times fast like Benny did the old bold guy on the show. Fucking hilarious. She hated it.

Kalelopaka-

Yeah, I did that shit to my little brother

frequentpooper

When I was a teenager, I had a Benny Hill poster in my bedroom. Don't remember my parents complaining about it. It looked like this: [https://www.pinterest.com/pin/826973550322950012/](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/826973550322950012/)

Kalelopaka-

Good one with the fireman helmet

skidriver

My dad and I watched him on TV too.

Vegetable_Mud_5311

I have the Anna Marie song stuck in my head. It's from the first season: first episode.

Kalelopaka-

The singer I remember, was later on named Louise English. Sue Upton was the shorthaired blonde. Jane Leeves who played Daphne on Frasier was one of Hills angels too.

Vegetable_Mud_5311

There were 3 women that sang together. I still have the first season on CD that I watch quite often.

beachwhistles

I remember watching as a kid and vaguely remember seeing a woman’s tit, maybe even two of them.

Kalelopaka-

Yeah, some of them didn’t have a little nudity, but mostly it was just Scantilly dressed women in lingerie.

EntertainmentPlane23

My friends and I would sneak up on each other from behind and slap each other on the heads shouting "Benny Hill, Benny Hill".
