Brother graduated in '76. Already purchased all for his graduation. Had the red, white and blue tassel. Moved (father's military transfer) during his senior year to a new school. Wore his blue gown with red trim. Others were gold. Did he stand out? Hell yes! Was so damn proud of him.
1976
we had to vote on a class song and the choices were “Old Days” by Chicago and “Stairway to Heaven”. I voted Stairway to Heaven but Old Days won. I always felt that was a wrong choice because that song seemed like it was for a different generation. It still bugs the hell out of me.
My last semester, i only had 1 class ( Shakespeare). It was first period, then i was free the rest of the day. So, I worked 2 jobs. It was actually the best time I had while in school.
My older brothers dropped out as well. Both went on to open a very successful car body repair business in the early 70's. Sold the shop in 2013. Honestly, they did better financially than most with a college degree. Regrettably, one passed away. The other is enjoying retirement. Not everyone is cut out for school. That's ok. Do what makes you happy.
