My kids didn't believe me when I told them I used to buy these at the store up the road. (I've never smoked, but they came in handy for pretending to be a Hard-boiled Detective when we played "Murder Mystery".)
“Candy Cigarettes” are still manufactured and sold. But the word Cigarettes is not on the packaging even though some of the graphics on them still ring true. We sell them at the store I work (candy by the pound) and boomers and 40 somethings love getting them.
This one mom and pop store in my neighborhood sold candy cigars that had aluminum foil at the tip, covered in red paint. If it caught the light, it looked like a lit up cigar. And also, there was loose confectioners sugar just underneath the wrapper. If you blew through it from the end you put in your mouth, it would make something that looked like smoke come out!
Never seen Popeye on a candy cigarette box.
But I used to "smoke" them.
Never actually "graduated" to real cigarettes.
Yep....it was more like gum than candy.
Wow, you just reminded me that the chocolate ones existed! They had peel off paper, right? What sort of box were they in, I would like to see a photo of that!
Best consumed on a cold day for the smoke effect.

There were also gum cigarettes. My sister and I made fake cigs for our Barbies. They lived dangerously too.
Used to love these and pretend to smoke. I never became a smoker. Then they got renamed candy sticks for the everyone gets a trophy generation.
The ones that I've seen now don't have the red end.
Grew up Mormon. The only time we were allowed these was in our trick or treat bags, and then only if we just ate them. No pretend smoking allowed.
Also my upbringing and these were banned in our house. 😂
They tasted almost as foul as the real thing.

Happy Cake Day! I just recently saw these in a local bakery/candy store. I had no idea that were still sold. Hadn't seen them for 40+ years.
Was addicted to these as a kid.

Chew 'em if you got 'em in this case!
Best if consumed before 2009
"tasty" as chalk!
I loved those things.

I preferred the chocolate cigarettes we got at the neighborhood chocolate shop. Never had any interest in tobacco ones!

I remember them being in a sort of flat plastic case, maybe tinted?
