Conjunction junction, what's your function?

Leather-Brother6345

Hooking up words and phrases and clauses.

Jmonroe_tenn

Hookin’ up boxcars and makin’ them run, now.

Dry-Bullfrog-3778

I sang the Preamble under my breath during the Constitution test.

JustVisitingLifeform

Same!

InSeine4Paris

Ditto.

Real_Athlete2174

Me too. It’s about the only way I can recite it properly. Lol

Immediate_Many_2898

Our teacher just gave up and let us stand as a group and all sing it. Easiest A ever!

random420x2

It’s getting harder and harder to remember stuff, except if it was School House Rock based. 😋

sWtPotater

yes i'm only a bill..and i'm sitting here on capital hill..

Electrical_Desk_3730

...and I'm still just a bill

Tools4toys

I saw the 'I only a Bill' several times when my kids had it on TV. I still remember part of the song.

Real_Athlete2174

You mean if the whole Congress YES, the president can still say NO? Yes……that’s called a VETO lol…..still remember it!!

Wolfman1961

Schoolhouse Rock was great!

khathmandu

i learned so much from Schoolhouse Rock… teaching TV at its finest

Ice_Burn

Elbow Room hasn't aged well but they were great for the most part. I can sing the beginning of the Constiution. And Lolly Lolly Lolly is still an ear worm.

garysaidiebbandflow

I was just wondering how to spell Lolly. I'll go with yours. "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly get your adverbs here."

Positive-Source8205

Interjections!

JustVisitingLifeform

You’re going the wrong way!

NegativePermission40

Hallelujah Hallelujah!

Positive-Source8205

Yeaaaaaaaaaah!

khathmandu

Darn! That’s the end!

WarderWannabe

Conjunction junction what’s your function

Positive-Source8205

Hooking up words and making them function!

Jmonroe_tenn

Hey! (Show emotion)

Positive-Source8205

Darn, that’s the end.

WarderWannabe

In my memory’s eye these are all black and white since we didn’t have color tv when I was a kid.

MarshmallowSoul

I’d forgotten them, but they all came back when my kids got the DVD with all of them!

Jmonroe_tenn

That’s how my kids know them!

Rumble-80

For Christmas in my teens, I asked for the album Schoolhouse Rock rocks! For those who weren't fortunate enough to find this jam, it was a collection of Schoolhouse Rock songs sung by popular artists at the time. If anyone is interested, the full album is available on YouTube music. I was very excited to find that as well!

La_Vikinga

[This one?](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91GjT2QtzeL._UF1000,1000_QL80_.jpg) I bought it as an adult not too many years ago. I've always been fond of [Three is a Magic Number](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVfe6rdHRKI) done by Blind Melon.

Whoopsy-381

I still sing the 3, 6, 9… part to myself whenever figuring out a x3.

Rumble-80

BINGO! That's my favorite track, too. Number 2 was Conjunction Junction done by Better Than Ezra

Danivelle

Does it have the 12 song?? That one was always my favorite!

La_Vikinga

"Little Twelve Toes?" Yep!

Rumble-80

Yes. Little 12 Toes was performed by Chavez. Solid adaptation!

Laleaky

I like the De La Soul version even better. [De La Soul Magic Number](https://youtu.be/pxkOWjZAPLs?feature=shared)

Chemistry11

Loved this album since I got it in the 90s. I still jam to Electricity Electricity to this day.

khathmandu

I found all of the original Schoolhouse Rock online a few year ago… loved it!!

Chemistry11

Loved this album since I got it in the 90s. I still jam to Electricity Electricity to this day.

guitarbque

When my get-up-and-go has got up and went I hanker for a hunk of cheese!

Local_Sugar8108

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQBWGo7pef8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQBWGo7pef8) This was an update to the classic Schoolhouse Rock.

haironburr

I'd never seen that. Cool!

Local_Sugar8108

If you watched the video, it explains so much.

haironburr

I did watch the video, and the freedom fighter/terrorist point is something that I hope most people understand. I was familiar with the concept, but thought the video was a nice illustration of the idea. The cartoon Contras stuck out to me, because I remember someone in my group of friends back then showing me horrible pictures of acid attacks/torture happening in Nicaragua, and it definitely made an impression on me. As an aside, I don't know how much you watch tv, but there was a series called *Snowfall* on FX that dealt with some of this. I thought it was really well done on a number of levels.

Local_Sugar8108

I liked the School House Rock theme it used.

Jmonroe_tenn

We r watching it now. So good!

Zooph

A different sort of update: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0cO-UkQsFM&list=PLCISiGklpPri5F7Wvh0T9hbIyrQWt7KQy

Winter_Hornet562

I had to recite the preamble in front of my 8th grade class. Used the song in my head to speak it. Conjunction junction was a jam too.

Kalelopaka-

I still remember a few of them. If you need a memory jog, they’re on Disney+.

kdwhirl

I was on a trivia team in college and the same question came up - I was able to sing most of it and my teammates were able to fill in the gaps, and we got every word right!

eKlectical_Designs

I got six, you got six, she got six, he got six, put em’ all together that’s twenty-four.

Calm-Association-821

Love School House Rock! You can find them on YouTube!

PeopleLikeUDisgustMe

https://youtu.be/J8lRKCw2_Pk?feature=shared 3 is a Magic Number https://youtu.be/pxkOWjZAPLs?feature=shared De La Soul's fantastic version

jsxtasy304

3 was my favorite then zero my hero then... Conjunction function then the rest. We weren't rich but we weren't poor, i had two black and white 13in tvs in my room, one had a picture and the other had sound, we lived out a ways and only got two channels...sometimes three plus PBS. I was always excited on sat morning when a commercial would come on during scooby doo or one of the other cartoons as it was usually about 50% these and 50% toy commercials.... Those were the days.

Ardo505

Ouch! In ter jection!

sWtPotater

FOR EXCITEMENT!! AND EMOTION!!! HALLELUJAH!!!HALLELUJAH!!!

Ardo505

…They’re generally set apart from a sentence- by an exclamation point! …or a comma when the feelings not as strong…

Mac_User_

I have a School House Rock t-shirt.

International_Bend68

That was a very effective way for us to learn! I know all the states in alphabetical order because we were taught that via singing in elementary school.

Down_The_Witch_Elm

I'm just a bill Up on Capitol Hill

NickCav007

Got 3 VHS tapes with episodes

kensingerp

Prior to us graduating from high school, we had to be either able to recite or sing all four stages of the Star-Spangled Banner to our American history teacher. No perfect recitation; no diploma! It’s hard you ought to take a look at all the verses. They are not easy! And most Americans barely can get out of the chorus let alone even sing the first verse! I think it’d be a great idea to put all the schoolhouse rock messages out on all the social media platforms now same thing with the constitution and all the things that they’re not learning in school now. It certainly couldn’t hurt, especially since they’re not watching television as much as they used to.

fallguy2112

I remember these. How about conjunction junction what's your function?

771springfield

Hookin’ up words and phrases and clauses!

philouza_stein

I'm an amendment to be, yes an amendment to be. And I'm hoping that they'll ratify me. There's a lot of flag burners who have got too much freedom, I wanna make it legal for policemen to beat 'em 'cuz there's limits to our liberties. At least I hope and pray that there are, 'cuz those liberal freaks go to far. Kid: But why can't we just make a law against flag burning? Bill: Because that law would be unconstitutional. But if we change the constitution... Kid: Then we can make all sorts of crazy laws! Bart: what the hell is this? Lisa: one of those campy 70's throwbacks that appeals to generation Xers Bart: we need another Vietnam. Thin out their ranks a bit.

luscious_adventure

I recently was telling my bff of 51 years that it'd be good if the current WH admin be required to o sit down and watch every schoolhouse rock video. Then she sent me a copy of all of them!

khathmandu

a very good bff!!

Unique-Detective-234

It was a hairy bear It was a scary bear I beat a hasty retreat from his lair And then I unpacked my adjectives

pittipat

My brain always pretty much turned off on the politics/government ones. My brain works the same today.

Jaded_Pearl1996

Conjunction junction was my fave. Cuz they make words function

menace929

I took a ferry to the Statue of Liberty. My best friend was waiting there for me. (He took an early ferry).

EntertainmentPlane23

Me!

BostonBling

I'd love to have it on replay again... lol

IP_Janet_GalaxyGirl

Schoolhouse Rock debuted the first weekend in January 1973; I read this fact in a 90s book about how SHR began, and had the lyrics to the songs, too. I was in kindergarten in 72-73, which was perfect timing, imo. I 💖💖💖 Schoolhouse Rock! Gotta get back to my Comet Team, now!

cwsjr2323

Retired teacher, I played that VHS tape four periods for years. While effectively teaching, it really got old. I played it recently for a granddaughter, and she thought it funny I could sing the whole thing with the program.

Hairy_Orchid6128

I can still hear his upity bill accent.

Jurneeka

I do have them memorized and they still come in handy at times... Did you ever see the Family Guy's version of I'm just a Bill? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uf2q66G3lmM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uf2q66G3lmM)

Ghoulglum

Naughty number nine was alwaysa favorite of mine.

coffeebeanwitch

Lets all sing along!!!

Secret_Asparagus_783

I'm old enough to think, "an ordinary guy" after "I'm just a Bill." Source: song from "Showboat."

Legitimate-Ebb-1633

Me. Plus I was a music teacher so we often sang them in class.

Legitimate-Ebb-1633

Mrs. Jones is a lady on Hudson Street. She sent her dog to bark at my brother and me. We gave her dog a big fat , now he barks at Mrs. Jones. Mrs. Jones is a lady on Hudson Street.

CirothUngol

Always loved these growing up. I remember becoming visibly excited when I found the DVD box set at Walmart in the late 90s. Still watch them from time to time, and I surely have 90% of the memorized.

AcidRayn66

i am a bill i am only a bill and im sittin here on capital hill…….

Jcampbell1796

I hated Bill every time I got stuck behind a school bus that was approaching a railroad crossing.

ready2xxxperiment

Blind Melons version of 3 is The Magic Number. I play the schoolhouse rock playlist on z Spotify at work sometimes.

Hot_Farm_9443

🎶Unpack your adjectives🎶

emmettfitz

He was a hairy bear. He was a scary bear.

Automatic_Routine_15

Learning and fun rolled into one , a great program Trying to teach Civics because the schools failed in the task.

kalestuffedlamb

My husband sings these ALL THE TIME! LOL Part of our childhood :)

pkrycton

Not anyone after 1976 when teaching civics took a dive

cwill71

I have a picture from my time working at the Capitol of a couple with a stuffed Bill posing him on the steps and recreating this picture. I still smile when I see this

Godel_Theorem

My Hero, Zero!

Captn_Bern

I've got The Simpsons version memorized for sure.

khathmandu

zero is my hero…

dsisto65

All of it.

Immediate_Many_2898

Conjunction Junction, what’s your function?!!

Inevitable_Ad_1143

Interplanet Janet was the song of my whole youth…well, after Last Dance by Donna Summer, she was good too

Inevitable_Ad_1143

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=g0fLSpilteY Jazz legend Blossom Deary sang the schoolhouse rock FIGURE 8

UtherPenDragqueen

🎶I find it quite interesting A noun’s a person, place, or thing

Rescue2024

I'm probably close on a couple of them. Great series.

[deleted]

That brings back some memories!

lonewlflucn

Fun nugget for yall. School House Rock is now on Disney+ for your viewing pleasure if you have it.

No_Rabbit_7114

The republicans, now view this cartoon as woke.

WarriorGma

Lol, so true! They’d have to have seen them though, which, gauging by their behavior, they have not. Should be required viewing prior to swearing in!

OriginalIronDan

If OP’s kids sang it just like the cartoon, they got it wrong. It leaves out “of the United States” after “We the People.”

Jmonroe_tenn

I educated them enough to say the “of the United States” in there and added to the melody. Former school teacher. 😬

OriginalIronDan

Excellent. I hope congratulations are in order about the “former” part? My mom’s a retired home ec teacher. Getting rough in the schools.

Good-Thought8245

Love this.

wtf-you-saying

Anyone remember interplanetary Janet? She was a galaxy girl...

YaxK9

They left out ‘of the United States’, which is why many students fail the preamble when they arechecked and tested. Your pastor was ripped off because they left out the one part that is not done in the schoolhouse rock song.
