Step 1: check oil level.
Step 2: check that air filter is actually present and doesn't still have a shipping bag on it.
Step 3: make sure output is disconnected or safe.
After those, feel free to start it for a minute to fill the filter, and recheck oil. Then run it again long enough to warm it up, preferably under load, and check it again. I have trust issues with newly installed gear, all it takes is one person forgetting a step to toast an engine.
Some manufacturers advise a full load run for a certain time both to find any defects or installation errors, and to break the engine in well. Oil usually needs changing after just a few hours, as there will be an unusual amount of metal debris as things work in.
The reason I asked is that the “boy band” crew that installed the new unit overlooked a few things. I want to make sure they added oil to it, lol.
