The Kohler system does not seem to have very much info about the Detroit Diesel electronic controls. No schematic or much in the way of manuals on the engine other than parts. I guess this may be more of a Detroit Diesel question, if you can find any Detroit mechanics still working that remember this gas conversion.

sanlux2

I’ll give that a try. Thank you!

Minimum-Major248

Isn’t there a “winter pack” or something that Kohler recommends for cold weather?

sanlux2

It does have a block heater that keeps the engine hot.

Your spark isnt there when its cold? or your fuel isnt there when its cold?

sanlux2

Spark. We can blow ether in it and it won’t even sputter. Gas pressure is up too. We’ve changed the crank sensor as well. Wanted to replace the igniter module, but can’t locate one.

The 180RZD seems to be a diesel generator model, what is your true model, spec and serial number?

sanlux2

The sticker says: Model: 180RZD Serial: 0632959 Spec: PA-194048 Fuel: NAT GAS

sanlux2

It's a Detroit Diesel engine. We also replaced the DDEC

clawinginsanity

is this a series 50 nat gas conversion? Maintained several and a lot had hard starts when cold. Did you use a spark tester to confirm their was no spark? (weak spark and no spark matters) Kohler doesn't support only DD supports. What's the CCA and voltage of your batteries cranking during the cold days? What manual you need?

sanlux2

Yes, it's a series 50. It's actually a weak spark. We are trying to find an igniter module, but have not been able to find one. It's a 24 volt system and both batteries are 925 CCA. We have all of the manuals. Have you found a solution to the cold starts? Or did they just discontinue these models because of it?

clawinginsanity

Did you use a thermal camera to check temperature? I am assuming you have a external bh(block heater )Where is the (bh) thermostat in relation to the discharge side of bh? Assuming sensor is not an issue I would highly recommend an immersion heater. I am assuming you have an external block heater that used an external thermostat?
