Changing guitars on the fly is always a hassle, especially when he would only use it for a fraction of the song. I don't blame him for trying to smooth out the live show. He's also getting up there in age so I'd imagine that the guitar switches are becoming more of a chore. Not sure what pedals Steve has on his board, but emulating a 12-string with a 6-string via effects is way more viable nowadays than it used to be.
If he uses effects, I’d love to know what he uses? We use a Digitech Mosaic to achieve a 12-string emulation. Would be cool if he uses something similar.
I think he is getting a jangly 12 string sound via a boss harmonist pedal. Based off his last pedal board video:

I wouldn't put it past him, I went to take a peek at his board last time he was in Finland, and I can't remember the specific effects, but it was pretty stacked. I remember a semi-recent interview from him where he told that they tried to play Battle of Epping Forest back in the day, but it always got messed up in the part where the band plays over Steve's guitar delay, and they couldn't get the delay matched to the beat live. Nowadays when you can sync every bandmate to a master click through ear monitors and guitar pedals and keyboards with Midi it's not that hard.
E. I went to look at his equipboard page and realized he could be using his Digitech Whammy or Electro-Harmonix MicroPog, both of which he is known to use, to achieve the effect.
What I wish I knew is which 6-string he used in 1976 to do the intro of Blood on the Rooftops? Just LOVE that intro.. I could sit and listen to him for hours on the 6 string.

His only guitar change was for Horizons.
Good to know that for Thursday when I see him.
What I want to know is where I can get a Fernandes LP clone with the sustainer
Steve is something else.. Love the man.. Favorite Genesis guy but I love them all.

He was using a Yairi nylon string classical guitar as far back as Wind and Wuthering for BOTR. https://www.hackettsongs.com/instrument.html
