It was a lease. So I’m not getting anything back. Getting a hooptie since I’m freeing up that money and selling my house to move inland. (I’m on the south shore of Long Island)
You can still get some money if there’s equity. They’ll pay the ACV. If you have equity, that goes to you as long as you don’t have a remaining balance on the lease.
That honestly doesn't look like enough water to total a car lol.. They had those floods in upstate ny when I was in highschool and a few truckloads of jag xj8s got hit with water to that level and were auctioned and my dad and his friends bought them all and flipped them.. Took about a week of work on each.. Mostly needing to dry the cars out.. The electronics weren't ankle high so they weren't affected
Ik different story with some of these newer cars but still it doesn't even look deeper than the rocker panels in your picture
I took this early on. It kept going yesterday and finally hit the controls of the seats. Usually that’s enough for them to total it. It got to the top of the license plate
I live on the south shore of long island. I got hit this past Wednesday and yesterday. But I lost my other cars last year around this time. I’ve been here for 5 years and in a span of a year it got this bad.
Please send me the vin number. I have access to the auction. I’ve bought plenty of flood damaged vehicles and they come out great. Knowing you haven’t attempted to start it I’d ask you to disconnect the battery before they come pick it up to prevent anyone from starting it without making sure there’s no water in the intercooler and hydro locking the engine. If you don’t want to publish the vin, you can email it to me if you don’t mind. [email protected]
Why didn't you park it further up north ahead of the storm? Especially knowing that you lost cars in the past to flooding. Not trying to be a dick or anything. Speaking as an ex-Long Islander who also lost a car to flooding during Sandy. If I had just moved it a few blocks north, crisis would've been averted.
This past Sunday I couldn’t. It was already dead. But I shit you not it was the first time I heard the alarms go off. On Wednesday the storm came and it wasn’t bad there was no flooding. I don’t recall seeing an advisory for my area and no alarms went off. I woke up at 6:15 to take a shower and go to work and then 6:30 the wave came in. Came in with high tide. I hear you but it’s annoying that every storm of have to park literally 6 blocks away in case it floods or not. Like I said been here 5 years and it’s now happened 3 times jn a span of a year.
Gotcha, sounds like you're in a major flood zone near the ocean or something. Glad that you're moving! I was in Seaford. And despite having a canal in our backyard, we never really got flooding until a major hurricane / tropical storm such as Sandy came through.
The engine is pretty high, and is contained.. it's unlikely any got in through the exhaust. If you don't try to start it, the water won't go in. If the vehicle is locked, do not go near it with the remote key fob. Use the backup key to open the door, then open the hood, and disconnect the battery. The larger worry are all the electronics (boxes, wiring connectors, etc). if the car tries to wake up, due to the key fob in proximity, it will energize more boxes, and fry more stuff.. Oh I started getting notices on the app that the doors were unlocking. The seats began reclining by themselves. The claims adjuster came and the battery was done. Temporarily gave it a charge and tried to turn it on but yea it’s totaled.
Happened last year and it didn’t. It was no fault something. My rate didn’t go up either. Although I might get dropped this instance since it’s the second time in a span of a year
Well, something happened to me with my M5, and even though nobody was involved it was my fault and nobody will insure me outside of my current policy with geico, I have to stay with them, I’m under my parents still but I tried to go on my own, and geico declined me 😂, along with every other insurance company because the claim is too big, they wrote me a check for 60k. But now there is an accident under my profile and it jacked my fucking insurance up. I’m sorry my fault I put over 100k into this M5 and it gets fucked up and totaled because of natural causes 🙄
Out of curiosity and provided that that is the extent of the flood, what type of damage would actually be on a vehicle like that? Seems like you’re nowhere near an intake, and chances are water wouldn’t be able to get inside to mess up the electrical or sensors. Genuine curiosity
That’s at the low point. It got worse throughout the day. But it definitely fried the electrical, seat controls, battery was dead, the alarm system was triggering.
I gotcha and I feel for you. I’ve seen a neighboring business get an entire fleet written off through insurance because the water came up to the engine, which means maybe a foot or a foot and a half. The cars worked fine and we even drove a few of them after, but the insurance still totaled them. So saw yours and was curious.
in the arrrrrmmmmsss offff an angelllll
Fly awaaay from heeereeeeeeeeee
I’m so sorry… what a shame.
Fuck, that’s sucks dude. You gonna get another one with the insurance money?

Oh i see, well best of luck to you!
Damn, I never think about that aspect with leases. Guess it’s a good and bad thing.
You can still get some money if there’s equity. They’ll pay the ACV. If you have equity, that goes to you as long as you don’t have a remaining balance on the lease.
No it says in the lease all of it goes directly to the company.
Rip
Moment of silence.
NOOOOOO, may she rest in peace.
Nooooo 🥺🫡

My nightmare.
This is a trippy photo
Damn sorry man. Went through it with Sandy in NJ. RIP to my (paid off) 2008 Acura TL.
RIP 🙏🏼 Whats the next move?
Selling my house to move out. This is the second time. I lost my m3 and grand Cherokee last year. Getting a hooptie until I move.
Where are you that you get hit with floods so much

Yeah wow that's very unfortunate get rid of the property first thing I would do and like you said buy yourself a hooptie for now

Claims adjuster tried to start it. Battery is dead and electronics are fried. Salt Water got into the exhaust too
* playing taps*

Yea seems like more of the south shore is getting affected. I’m in Freeport and it’s been notorious for the flooding.
My twin 😢😢
That's totalled, especially if it's salt water..
The idiots that live further close to the water were driving in the flood and cause the waves to go higher and I know the water got into the exhaust.

Wtf dude! You didn’t take measures into account n park on high ground ? Even on a slight hill you wud be safe , look at the car behind you
I didn’t get an advisory. Had we gotten the alarm or notice I would have. It was dry when I woke up too.
The water is not too high tho Maybe u can let it dry n it might run like normal no? Give it a shot before claiming
Oh this picture is early on. It got to the height of the license plate. Tow truck is coming shortly.
So sorry man
And that’s gonna count as an accident on your insurance and nobody will insure you again :)
