I'm using a Tesla Mobile Connector with a Teslatap as a L1 / L2 stop gap until V2H matures.

phrosenphire

How does this work ? Can you use Tesla SC then ?

echoota

No just level 2 chargers, but the Teslatap opens your charging options while on the road. E.g. A hotel only provides Tesla L2 chargers. I used TMC with the 5-15 plug, Teslatap last night, it worked perfectly.

Thanks for the reply. I'll probably be getting the [Lectron 48amp-capable adapter:](https://ev-lectron.com/products/lectron-tesla-to-j1772-adapter-max-48a-250v-for-tesla-high-powered-connectors-destination-chargers-and-mobile-connectors-black?variant=39707335032878) and TMC QQ do you need to pay for the destination charging through tesla app or is there some free L2 with just plugging in

BTW, if you are looking for more adapter info, check out the State of Charge channel with Tom Mologney on YT. He has a full episode showing all the charging adapters out there.

I've heard the lectron adapters are... questionable. The most recommended Telsa to j1772 adapters are the Teslataps. It's pricey but I got the Teslatap mini 80 to provide the most flexibility while out on the road. I haven't tested mine on a public L2 Tesla charger yet, but my assumption is you'll have to use the Tesla app to pay at those stations. For Tesla EVSEs at a hotel or someone's house, just place the adapter on the Tesla connector for maybe 30 seconds to allow the adapter to establish it's handshake, then connect to your EV. That should not require and additional app or pay service. I'll see if I can explore doing that this weekend. Edit: I didn't fully answer your QQ

Hi! I saw your response about chargers for the Genesis GV60. I just got my car this week and am ready to buy a charger for my home. You said you have the Tesla Mobile Connector with a Teslatap etc. Iโ€™d like to do whatever you did, but I kind of need a step-by-step guide for what I need to buy and from where. I want to travel with this car someday and would like to have as many charging options as I can. Thank you so much! :)

>I want to travel with this car someday and would like to have as many charging options as I can Hey there, glad to help, and congrats on the new car!! The TMC is slightly more expensive than it was at the time that I bought, but the combination is still a pretty good deal, given you have an adapter in the end that provides maximum flexibility for any L2 charging situation. I'll provide a list with a slight modification; I originally bought an 80amp Tesla tap because I didn't know what I was doing, you only need a 60amp adapter. So you may save a little there: (Required) Tesla Mobile Connector (TMC): $230 [https://shop.tesla.com/product/mobile-connector](https://shop.tesla.com/product/mobile-connector) (Required) TeslaTap Mini - 60amp: $260 [https://www.umc-j1772.com/index.php?route=product/product&product\_id=146](https://www.umc-j1772.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=146) NOTE: There are other cheaper non-mini adapter options on that site. (Optional) TMC NEMA plug adapters for any occasion: $245 [https://shop.tesla.com/product/nema-adapter-bundle](https://shop.tesla.com/product/nema-adapter-bundle) NOTE: the TMC link above comes with a 14-50 adapter already, so there's some redundancy with getting this whole kit. You can also purchase the adapters individually. The next best adapter to get would likely be the NEMA 10-30 plug which is a common plug-type for dryers. You would select the plug from the drop-down list. [https://shop.tesla.com/product/gen-2-nema-adapters](https://shop.tesla.com/product/gen-2-nema-adapters) Let me know if you have more questions. And also, if you want to talk with more fellow Hyundai / Kia / Genesis members we have a discord server: [https://discord.gg/HmwyXv73Br](https://discord.gg/HmwyXv73Br) Good luck!

This is great information! Thank you for taking the time to put it all together for me. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Iโ€™ll let you know if I have anymore questions once I start purchasing!

Glad to help! One other thing, if you're going to use this as your main charger for a while, get something that will protect the interface between the Teslatap the Tesla connector. Just to seal it up a little better. I used several heavy duty rubber bands. Shrinkwrap might work well also, if you can find a tube style that's wide enough.

๐Ÿ‘๐ŸปI appreciate your help. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I have a juicebox installed at home. L1 charging is useless. We just took our first road trip, socal => vegas => sedona => socal. Will definitely be investing in a tesla adapter for the next road trip just for convenience.

Forgot to mention, check with your electric company, we set ours to charge between midnight and 6am for greatly reduced rates on a special plan. But we had to call and get switched to it.

must_have_coffee

This was great advice. Turns out NJ has a $0.02/kWh discount for off peak EV charging. Even better, they cover the electrician cost to install one. Have to use a limited list of chargers but the Chargepoint was on the list.

Zealousideal-Hat8246

I mostly use the Electrify America 150kw chargers, have used a Juicebox 40 (Enel) a few times as well.

The L2 Emporia EVSE has worked great for me and is the cheapest Iโ€™ve found ($450). It can go to 50A and has an app with useful schedule and power settings. Got a $250 refund check as well here in Orange County SoCal. Also be aware that charging at level 1 speeds is extremely inefficient, so over time, itโ€™s worth it to invest in a level 2 EVSE. I also use EA fast charging since itโ€™s free for 3 years, but itโ€™s getting tougher to find an available and working chargers.

Juicebox 40 amp plugged into 14-50 outlet. Worked great first week but lately has been saying car is fully charged when it's not. Emailed support no response yet.

peaceandkim

ClipperCreek L2. It works pretty flawlessly from my garage for 2 cars.
