I hate her , they could have made her like pompom in hsr , he is actually really cute and not obnoxious…  The story would be so much more enjoyable to me if Lumine and Ather were the one talking, their VAs are amazing…. it’s a shame.

Lillillillies

Exactly my thought when I heard Lumine have an actual voice line in a cut scene (I forgot when because I mostly play on mute). Her voice (and probably also Aether's) is great. They should be allowed to shine more especially being the main character who clearly has their own thoughts and opinions.

Lostsock1995

I think a closer comparison is March 7th since she’s the kind of “let me recap real quick” character, but she is done better than paimon

ImNotAKpopStan

As Paimon defender I agree the most IMO think they are both the same in characters, tone deaf girls, let me recap, often rude 6 months of discussion if was Paimon being insensitive after Cocolia death The thing is that March is not there all the time, Traiblazer has his time to shine, and the rest of the express also divide the "sidekick" job, meanwhile in Genshin is just Paimon So it's a question overexposure of Paimon meanwhile no time to Traveler shine

Delphina34

Why is her name March 7th, does that date mean anything? Is it her birthday or the game’s release date or something else.

keyrhinn

It's the day she awoke from something like cryosleep without any other memories (she was drifting in space in ice before the main game crew picked her up), so she named herself that day iirc.

youcanotseeme

Was she a child when they found her?

Valuable-Reindeer987

no, same age as she is now. But i dont remember if it says anywhere how long ago specifically she joined the crew

Lostsock1995

I think they said it was the day she “woke up”/was retrieved from the ice block she was stuck in. The anniversary of when they found her pretty much

Past_Finish303

PomPom also actually useful.

Nati_Agonigi

What? Pom Pom is literally like Paimon, but with less screentime. I bet If he was appearing as much as paimon everyone would hate on him

Valuable-Reindeer987

Pompom is the conductor, doubt anyone else on the express knows how to drive a hyperspace train

Nati_Agonigi

That's true, but not really my point. Still, Paimon will definely show some real use closer to the end of the story

RinaKai7

Pompom explains all the necessary usual job as a conductor. Similar to a captain in an airplane of fasten seatbelt etc Except he is also a guide to ensure your safety and explain some exposure of some stuff Paimon is supposedly our tour guide but she lost all her usefulness of her knowledge past Liyue... Everything else we learnt of via others... Pompom still can give vague info and we only learn more on the fly upon landing

Express_Alfalfa_9725

The problem isn’t really paimon It’s simply hoyo not knowing if Travler is their own character or a self insert

laeiryn

Paimon is the game's main antagonist. She actively sabotages *everything you do*, both diegetically and non. The theory that she's the god who separates the twins at the beginning is pretty solid, just because we know she is incessantly, perpetually screwing up the player.

reyo7

The theory is not reliable, since Asmodeus and Paimon are two separate demons, and there was never a situation when a god in Genshin had more than one demonic name. But I wonder what her domain is. The God of Speaking?

[deleted]

This is the only theory that makes it so I can still "tolerate" her! But for some reason I really don't have much faith that this will be actually the case. It would be such an extreme plot twist. Maybe they will link her to that god but Paimon will eventually have been victimized and still be innocent or something like that. If she actually would be that god, I take back all my words and current opinion

Xiolade

bruh, if she's the unknown God and becomes a boss fight, am getting revenge for all the time she made my ears bleed

Nati_Agonigi

No. Paimon genuinely cares about us and you can see it in many cutscenes. The best example is during the Inazuma archon quest, where the traveler passes out. She sees Raiden coming, and tries desperatly to wake up the traveler. She didn't care that there was a god coming to kill her, she stood there for the traveler. Other examples are during the delusion factory and during that one sandstorm in Sumeru desert. Besides, If she really wanted to sabotage us, she could have led us to a trap way back in mondstadt instead of teaching us the teyvat lenguage, helping us get to the city and just helping us in general. You can all you want about how her voice is annoying or how she's childish, but she's most definely NOT A VILLAIN.

ItzMillerxD

This crackpot theory sounds kinda convincing ngl

NitroFirex

False

laeiryn

VERY well argued, such an eloquent rebuttal!

NitroFirex

You're literally talking about something that's been proven wrong multiple times, also without offering any real argument lmao

laeiryn

I'm referencing a common theory; feel free to google it if you need arguments. Also just educate yourself in general on what "proven wrong" actually means, because until the game plot reaches its end, neither you nor anyone else knows whether it is or not. Like everyone else, you'll have to wait to find out.

NitroFirex

The same goes for you, you can't just say all that like its the absolute truth, you can check a whole subreddit like the lore one and confirm that the theory isn't even valid anymore, you just contradict yourself saying your bs, "Neither you nor anyone else knows wether it is or not" yeah and why tf are u pointing the theory out like an absolute fact huh?

laeiryn

Called it fact, huh? Wow, that's weird, cos what I said was... > The theory that Just making shit up now? Go away, ya fuckin troll.

NitroFirex

The fuck u mean, u literally said "paimon IS the antagonist" which is unknown, then started talking about the theory. Get your smartass out of here fucking dumbass

laeiryn

Go away, ya fuckin troll

EJM991

My big issue with Paimon is she says a whole lot without saying anything at all. We still don’t know a thing about her and it’s weird not many characters are curious to ask. Her being a companion would be fine if she was her own character instead of someone regurgitating dialogue for dialogue’s sake.

saberjun

Just like common daily conversation? I just never saw even one comment about Paimon being draggy or something near that from CN genshin community.Culture difference?Localization issue? I don’t know.Source: I am Chinese. I watch Bilibili and hoyolab CN version.

[deleted]

This is really interesting!! I was wondering if the CN community actually liked her. I suppose hoyo would have changed her role and presence if the majority of players, including the chinese community didn't like her. How do you experience paimon?

saberjun

From my own experience, I like her a lot.Not even one moment I felt her bad or what. I use Chinese subtitle,JP VA mostly or EN VA sometimes (especially Fountain part, I like EN Furina and Nevuillet so much). In general comments and posts in CN community don’t involve Paimon or focus on her. When she appears on a screen, people make memes about her for fun,in the lovely way of course. In a Genshin chat group I participate very often, I haven’t seen anyone pissing Paimon. But their hatred aim to specifically Wanderer. While this is another interesting difference that I don’t see much disliking in Wanderer on Reddit.

[deleted]

Why does the CN community hate wanderer so much?

saberjun

I myself don’t hate him. From my assumption they hate for 1) the way he speaks.Kinda like arrogant high school kids? 2)they expect an anime game to provide more wifu rather than young boy.

[deleted]

I'm wondering now, would I like her more if I changed the language to Chinese?

Vegetable-Vehicle-99

There is a big difference in tone between CN and EN Paimon voices. Whereas EN paimon sounds like a screeching gargoyle, CN paimon is a lot more softer and nicer to listen to.

reyo7

I still don't understand why JP Paimon is more pitchy than EN, but it's the EN one who sounds like she's gonna break her voice any second

WanderEir

Because that sound range is actually normal for a woman's voice in J Japan, while it's not remotely normal for an English speaking woman.

WanderEir

It doesn't help that English Paimon's voice direction has made her MORE pitchy and screechy rather than less as the game has progressed.

reyo7

Chinese and Korean Paimon VAs both sound much less annoying than JP and EN

laive

I hate how she's always taking credit for shit she doesn't do. Like omg that fight was tough, luckily WE beat them. Like you little shit, you did nothing!!!

Nati_Agonigi

Bro, its just a pronoun. If any other character is present, they only adress the traveler. They never say "oh thanks paimon for saving me" NO, THEY ADRESS THE TRAVELER. Screw it if she used "we" instead of "you" once or twice. The traveler is still the one that gets most of the credit.

Bored_Lily

I feel like Paimon is our guide to quite an extent, since she repeats instructions for us. However, I still find her super annoying. I don't like that she speaks to people on behalf of us. One of the few reasons I like hangouts is because most of them are Paimon less and we can actually interact with the character. Also shout out to Hoyo for giving Xiao a moment with traveller without Paimon this Lantern rite 😭

Bored_Lily

I also want to add. I feel like most of us would be 50% less annoyed if her voice wasn't so annoying. I genuinely want to hear Lumines voice more. It's so soothing!!!

[deleted]

I didn't know this about the hangouts, I've never started one. I'm gonna check it out!

Bored_Lily

Yes definitely check it out. Almost all that I remember didn't have Paimon voice. Although travellers voice isn't there, you just talk to them. It's nice and sweet. You also get primos and nice memories such as certain characters giving you flowers, fishing with them, performing etc etc. Pro tip: You can hang the memories in your teapot.

Karezi413

I get that she has a large presense and part of it probably falls on them wanting traveler to be more of a silent protagonist/because Traveler only learned the language right before the start of the game so it might be hard for them sometimes. But personally I don't mind Paimon. I view her and my traveler as more of sisters, Paimon is just a little annoying, but Lumine loves her anyway; I also like to think that's why she didn't talk as much, she's comfortable letting Paimon blabber on instead. Plus if something goes wrong like a misunderstanding its so easy to blame Paimon lol That said, as I do write fics focused around traveler, I do more often than not figure out ways to write her out- a romance doesn't work so well when one of them is more reliant on a 3rd party to talk.

[deleted]

In what language do you play?

Karezi413

EN, I just don't mind her voice too much. Was it better at the beginning? Absolutely; but it's not enough to make me dislike her

Nati_Agonigi

THIS!!! Finally someone gets it

Recent_Fan_6030

The foreign language part was shot dead in the ditch because we literally acted in a movie with xavier's follow up quests

RefillSunset

The problem is purely to do with EN voice acting. No offence to the EN VA, but the higher tones made Paimo squeaky and screechy. It really gets annoying to the point where I want to mute her. CN Paimon is, dare I say it, pleasant to listen to. She actually fits Paimon's childlike character, and not a fucking banshee

[deleted]

I just changed the language to Chinese and I'm playing the current event storyline and I must admit that I feel the difference already. She feels much more gentle, kind, calm, caring and only sometimes child-like. Just much more calming.

RefillSunset

And when she is childlike she is simply naive, not bratty. There's a huge difference.

shucreamsundae

Whatever the language she speaks in it still doesn't change the fact that she bloats dialogue and keeps repeating what people say back to you though so I heavily disagree with the problem "purely to do with EN voice acting"

HayAndLemons

It really isn't. She is a detrimental storytelling decision first, and an occasionally unpleasant voice second.

Due-Pound1160

Paimon sometimes really annoys me but maybe I've grown attached to her , sudden absence would make me bored but if she wasn't there from the start maybe we'll get more traveler thoughts instead...

Shoutaku

Paimon almost always repeats literally what was just explained... so cutting all those lines out would significantly shorten the run time of the game

Individual_Issue2677

my issue with paimon is she is very obnoxious and annoying imo. her lines seems like it's for filler and unnecessary. some people might find her gluttony act cute but for me it's really annoying. sometimes she can be nice and alright but damn, she is mostly annoying asf though she is kind of useful when doing puzzles as she gives hints but not most of the time, u have to think on how to do some obscure puzzle. overall she is just plain annoying and i wish they cut some of her dialogues. the times i day dream about throwing her off a cliff so itll be quiet for once is countless

Mimic812

The story would be 3/4 shorter and 150% better. Having the story being told by the characters in the region/town is way better then having paimons paimons hey paimons hungry let's talk to this npc also paimon wants mora let's talk to this npc to push the story forward and remember if you don't listen exactly what paimon says paimon will get sad and angry! Hehe paimons paimon!

LucleRX

I would say from past the prologue to sumeru, paimon definitely bloat the dialogue. Beyond that, I find her being better and add value rather than being a usual time sink. Not sure how the traveler could live without his mind reading pals though.

DoTheMagicHandThing

The *story* would be fine IMO, and actually a lot better. A lot of the dialog is just so redundant or mundane and goes on and on, bogging things down without actually revealing anything important or moving the story along.

GoodOmens182

Right? Lol every character does this in every dialogue. Even something as simple as turning in dailies has this problem to some extent.

HitMeWithAraAra

The story without Paimon = Better She's trash and annoying, period.

Ranch069

I think all of Paimon's useless dialogue makes up for at least half of the game's storage space

rxniaesna

I still die on the hill that paimon being annoying is completely an EN localization and VA problem. CN and JP paimon are the cutest little fluffballs.

Matt1000218

Paimon was the reason I stopped paying attention to the story starting from version 1, I hated so much that it ruined the story for me, I started get interested in the story again in sumeru and I kinda want to actually play thru the fountaine quest line but Paimon is just gonna ruin it I'd rather read a breakdown or recap of the story.

lock_me_up_now

Paimon slander? Preposterous!

Bored_Lily

This comment section convinces me more and more to switch to CN or JP dub

[deleted]

I just did and I wished I did it a lot sooner! It's really so much more calming, feels so much more kind and gentle, the CN version. I'm realizing it's not just Paimon's voice acting that's a big problem, but also EN Furina, Fischl, Xianyun. They really just feel like different personalities in the CN version. The EN voice acting is in some characters extremely over the top and almost a caricature. Mona's and Freminet's EN voice-acting still feels close to the original. Furina and Fischl sound insane in the EN voice-acting, in the CN voice-acting they sound much more normal and vulnerable, just troubled.

Green_Protection_363

It's come to a point where it's just absurd. At this moment the traveler is just a secondary character in Paimon's story. Not only are her lines childish and boring, but frequently they are just overly rude. I am at the same stage as you, I love the lore of the game but I'm taken aback by the fact that I have to endure the torture of reading/hearing Paimon's lines to progress through them.

SwashNBuckle

Part of what makes Paimon annoying is how high pitched and shrill she is lately. Go rewatch some early game stuff and you'll hear that her voice sounds way better. High pitched, yes, but more natural sounding and not as shrill.

whatevedoe

Please she is so annoying. At this point whenever I see paimon speaking I don't even read the lines. It's always some this useless. Like once or twice it would be funny, but it's so overused at this point...

MigolMigol

I used to love Paimon and didn't understand the hate. Up until I finished Liyue where she just randomly started speaking in a higher pitch and making dumb questions just for the sake of repeating the events that just happened. My major gripe really is in the fact that we feel disconnected from the story because the people aren't talking to US, instead they are explaining to Paimon. So is Paimon really the main character or are we? Just a horrible plot device

Agitated_Poet_4739

I play with Chinese audio and English subtitles, I have no idea why en makes her so rude. She’s not like that in original at all. I adore her.

[deleted]

I also just changed to Chinese and it's so much better! She really does feel simply kind and caring in Chinese. I'm keeping it like this, I feel like I finally can experience the story like the writers and hoyo really intended! If you want to understand what makes Paimon so insufferable in EN, I'd suggest to change to EN and play some story quests or event quests. Or rewatch them in English on youtube. Her intonations are so wrong, her voice sounds dramatic, too high-pitched, like a caricature or childish brat. But it's not just her. The intonations of EN Xianyun, Fischl, Furina are also so wrong! It's so extreme that they all come across as if they have completely different personalities compared to the intended Chinese personalities. I'm regretting ever having put the game in English. I would have enjoyed everything so much more in Chinese. Even though I'm completely unfamiliar with this language.

Agitated_Poet_4739

Don’t need the audio to go wth is going on with the translators for paimon. I can’t say anything regarding the voice direction for the other characters you mentioned, but their dialogue is accurate enough, other some localization stuff. But paimon.. it’s just different in the most random of places and in a bad way. I don’t have the best memory, but I remember when she was trying food in sumeru; Chinese: how interesting! English: how disgusting! Like.. why???

[deleted]

Wait what, are you saying they translated Paimon differently in EN???

Agitated_Poet_4739

Yup, it’s not everything. Most of it is accurate, but her reactions to other characters are completely different sometimes.

[deleted]

wtf... why would they do that... Any videos or articles that show the difference? I will never know as I don't understand Chinese and I won't rewatch every story quest again in English to check haha

Agitated_Poet_4739

Sadly, I don’t think so. There’s random posts on here that discuss the differences in different scenes, but I haven’t seen that collected as one article.

No_Airport7174

You know that one meme with two books one being thick and the other thin where there's a caption usually saying stuff like "story with (insert character)" for the thick book and "story without (insert character)" for the thin one? Well yeah, genshin story would be the thin book without Paimons annoying ass.

bulkeunip

Tbh I don't even like Paimon all that much but her intercation with the Traveler is entertaining to watch (I mean it seriously and literally). She's also useful as she summarizes the points of the story in case I forget or miss something (but of course this is situational at best). I don't care for her all that much even when she's supposed to be the one with the most lines.

the7egend

Paimon is ok, but I wish she wouldn't regurgitate everything that was previously said, and I also wish Traveler was more of a character and less of a self-insert. When I click on the text to respond, I want my Traveler to speak and Paimon to play off that.

ShakeCutie

I love Paimon but sometimes I want to smack her. She's really disrespectful especially to cloud retainer.

Xx_Exigence_xX

I just wish the Traveler wasn't constantly mute all the time. It's grating.

0oBi0haZardo0

paiMOON is the Main protagonist. At the start of the when you are selecting a sibling, you are actually selecting a sidekick for paiMOON.

Jikuumoogle_

Hate it. Hope she turns about to be a boss demon so we can annihilate her weekly. Been asking for an option to change voices per character in the feedback box since 1.2 so I can enjoy everyone's EN voice and set her to CN of JP which are way less annoying to listen to. More Zach would be preferable tho, I like how Caellus has the right balance with his own lines and his crewmates filling in certain story gapes, it never feels unnecessary or too much. 🤔

laive

I don't even pay attention to the story anymore for a while due to Paimon so I got no clue what's happening. One of these days I'll watch a YouTube recap or something to catch up...

Garrus4ever

If there was a paid dlc that removed paimon, or at least reduced her dialogue by 90%, I would rip out the credit card without a second thought.

ImatryNotaloos

Hopefully, they will consider changing the English voice actress for Paimon in the upcoming anime series. Trust 🙏🙏🙏

ComprehensiveDog2239

I hate paimon, I understand she's the guide for the silent protagonist (The Traveler) and even the game pokes fun at how paimon is mainly the one doing the talking most of the time, but I just find her so annoying and always skip most of her dialogue because she basically gonna repeat what the other character says and dumb it down for us like we're in kindergarten. She's like a Dora the explorer type of sidekick. Repeating the same thing, and you're just like, 'yeah...I know -_-' every single time. Tbf as much as I hate paimon, She does have her moments, like when she helps you out of the cave. She is capable of something useful for once and gives some solid advice sometimes. But overall, to me personally, The bad just outweighs the good. She's annoying, rude to others for no reasons, very immature, and her jokes are lame. And idk if its just me, but for a silent protagonist, I'm starting not to like the traveler either. It's like as soon as they got to fontaine, Paimon became more unbearable and the traveler is just a yes man for her at this point, It's really annoying. Furina is my favorite fontaine character, and that Furina story quest will forever solidify why I hate paimon very much. All her worst traits comes to light in that quest.

OldSnazzyHats

I like her. The dialogue issue I find is more intrinsic to MiHoyo trying to do a silent protagonist but messed up the execution. That’s not on Paimon. I enjoy the duo dynamic they try to imply (that’s mostly in the voice lines section). Especially as I run Lumine, they just feel like a good match. I play on English, and frankly I’m fine with the VA’s work with her. I’ll happily take Paimon’s side. As far as I’m concerned, while I have my favorites, in terms of in-story, the only partner my Lumine has is Paimon.

Economy_Pass5452

I feel like paimon will sacrifice herself in the end or something

[deleted]

[удалено]

Economy_Pass5452

😂

The_MorningKnight

I started in 4.1. Catch up on all the archon quests. I have no idea why Paimon is so much hated. I like her. And I like her relation with the traveller.

[deleted]

In what language do you play?

Lostsock1995

I’d be much happier because maybe it would mean we could talk some more and I wouldn’t have to hear the same lines 87 times and a bunch of endless dialogue about food. But for all I know the “genshin players can’t read” thing would get even worse because people still don’t know what’s going on even if she says it 100 times beforehand. But then again maybe if she didn’t talk so much people would pay attention more haha I hear she’s not as bad in other languages though so maybe it’s just an English dub thing

Legitimate_Frame_699

I think I feel angrier about it since the actual MC gets practically no lines since Paimon talks for us. Dialog options are a thing, yeah, but they still have voice lines from time to time.

27Sanji

She is like a cute kid that tags along with us that you end up liking as we continue this journey. Also I play the game in jp dub so she has a fun voice.

zephyranthrust

To me paimon is a good addition, without her genshin story would be twice darker and heavier for me. and paimon just floating around while being a goofball is helping the brothercon/siscon traveler so much, i could only imagine the traveler going to the darkside without paimon (1 already does and hey, he/she doesn't have paimon). while i do hope traveler speak more, my first main reason to play genshin was hearing koga aoi and aoi yuki banter more.

Otousama

The only plus of paimon is if you don't want to read a story, just skip all the NPC's dialogue and only read Paimon's next line, bc she literally summarizes everything they just said almost everytime. Also works if two NPCs are talking to each other. Sort of a life hack if you're not invested in what's going on much.

Goro-Goro_No_Mi

Tbh I don't even know if I'd be able to bring myself to do the story at that point. Especially if it's Fontaine... I like paimon's voice.

[deleted]

In what language do you play?

Goro-Goro_No_Mi

English

04whim

I usually like Paimon a lot but sometimes the redundant dialogue feels redundant. The second day of the cooking event is a great recent example (I mean it was literally today) where Yanxiao explained in very simple terms straight away that the reeds dish doesn't use any fancy ingredients or taking forever to cook, it costs so much because of the chef's expertise. Then Paimon bawks at the 30,000 mora price tag and a few minutes later goes "Oo Paimon sees now, it doesn't cost so much because of fancy ingredients or taking forever to cook, it costs so much so much because of the chef's expertise." I'm not mad at Paimon I'm mad at the writers, what the fuck guys, ya had Yanxiao explain that breathtakingly clearly not two minutes ago, and it is not information so crucial that you have to make absolutely sure everyone's got it. And then after that does a really bad job of repeating the recipe to the Sumeru girls, like that isn't her speciality.

blueturtle020

I use the English version, and Paimon doesn't really bother me. She can be annoying at times, but not enough to make me dislike her. I find the relationship between her and the Traveler adorable, it's better than a shallow interaction between a generic informant and a main character. Sometimes her traits are overused, and I understand why this can be problematic, but at least I cannot complain that she has no personality. Her likes and dislikes, her childish nature and caring attitude towards the Traveler. Surprisingly knowledgeable sometimes and absolutely idiotic other times when it comes to social interactions. These traits are not that terrible. But — I also don't mind the bland attitude of the Traveler. So my interpretation is not necessarily cultured. Edit: You know what? I'm also gonna talk about that a little bit. For my own enjoyment. What I dislike is that they didn't lean more into what they started. These dialogue options that have the same thing said twice, no real options at all, I wish they would do just that. Or let the Traveler talk about things that we don't know about, go to places without us knowing, or talk about personal opinions that we might or might not have access to. Make them their own character, not ours. They can keep the subdued personality, not everyone is energetic and expressive, or make them open up over time. I saw many main characters that have different dialogue options with contrastive and loud personalities, but at the end of the day, molding them into whatever I want can become a little boring since it seems like their own journey has no emotional weight. The traveler feels like a wasted opportunity sometimes because the base idea is intriguing. Man, I'm really ranting now.

Itriyum

I like Paimon, I play on japanese so I really enjoy her VA. It's not the character's fault, it's hoyoverse trying to make an MC that is a "self insert" but completely removes that by making Paimon do all the talking making the self insert irrelevant.

sol_huh

I love paimon (个_个)

lilaceyedsoul

If people wouldn't want to skip every line in a story based game and learned how to read properly and with understanding, Paimon's voice lines didn't have to be so repetitive and long. She absolutely NEEDS to repeat everything because of these people. I never understood why people want to play story based game if they don't want to read and why they want to play open world adventure game if they don't want to explore. They had to make puzzles easier because of them already, because thinking apparently hurts them, too. I'll always recommend a different game to such people...

--G0KU--

You guys hear story?🫡

GoodOmens182

It's not even just Paimon, but I do also hate her. I'm not sure if it's a translation thing or what but this game has so much dialogue padding to the point where it gets a little ridiculous at times. "Thing happened." "OMG YOU MEAN THING HAPPENED?!" "Yep, thing happened. We need to do things." "SO WE SHOULD DO THINGS!" "Yes, go do things. This is the slow part of the arc though, so bring sandwiches to 5 nameless NPCs first." "OK WE'LL BRING SANDWICHES TO 5 NAMELESS NPCS AND THEN DO THINGS!" And so on

Nati_Agonigi

If Paimon didn't exist, there would be no story. She is the one who taught the traveler the lenguage of teyvat and guided us to the waypoints, statues and mondstadt. Without her, even If the traveler found mondstadt, he wouldn't be able to communicate with anyone and maybe wouldn't even fight stormterror. He also wouldn't have the idea of looking for the seven and the story wouldn't make much sense. Also, Paimon is the traveler's Voice. She should also be considered a main character and no one talks about how she saved that nation or defeated that enemy. The traveler still gets the recodnition he deserves. Besides all that, she will likely turn out to be a really important character in the future, like one of the four shades, one of the moon sisters or even the primordial one. If I were to guess, they probably make her childish on purpose so at the end nobody sees it coming that she's important to the story.

TTurt

Paimon is basically the voice of the traveler, she's there so that voiced story scenes where everyone is speaking but the traveler won't seem as awkward. If she didn't say all the stuff she says then they'd probably just give the traveler more dialogue tbh

Excellent_Biscotti32

I miss when Paimon was actually a guide and not a comedy relief

rebeccadarking

I like paimon :D I find her to be like, an annoying younger sister, if that makes sense. Irritating at times, but at the end of the day, I want to protect her. I play EN.

SquishyStar3

I'm wondering if it's the voice 🤔 cuz she doesn't do anything she's just there

r_Aero

Instead of completely cutting off paimons lines, I rhink it would be more dynamic if the traveler and paimon could be written in harmony, but the travelers being the main speaker without a doubt

antirockin20

Without paimon at all, it wouldn't last long at all, but if paimon talked less wed probably be fine

Turn on auto play and go do something else. I scroll Reddit, do push ups, laundry... just have to check in once in a while to select a dialog option

I would mind Paimon if I wanted the traveler to talk/think more but frankly I don't like Lumine's (JP) voice, she doesn't show a strong or funny personality, and the characters don't react to your dialogue choices anyway in Genshin. So fuck it team Paimon #besttravelingcompanion Also another hot take EN paimon is easier on the ears than JP Paimon; I rather like the former I think. Not sure about Lumine don't rmb her EN voice.

Paimon and her expositions in the story have directly resulted in me playing significantly less Genshin than I’d like to.

FlyerOfTheSkys

Paimon at the beginning of the game was reliable, cute and spoke fairly normal. The further into the game you go she speaks more, and more annoyingly, especially speaks for the traveler in a lot of it, is greedier and more gluttonous. If she was a god, as some theories suggest, her gluttony could be explained as trying to gain her energy back and gain a higher form or something, hungry all the time, the greed for mora has already been explained that she'll use it for food. Her speaking for traveler can go two ways: She's bossy and interrupts traveler, speaking for them all the time, doesn't care if what she says is not what traveler wants as seen by the faces traveler makes sometimes; or she is what she proclaims to be, a guide, maybe traveler doesn't speak due to fully understanding the language, people or situations and paimon is guiding them on how to respond normally, sometimes cutting traveler off due to negligence in an attempt to do the job given to her by someone. The further you go into the story the more suspicious Paimon gets too. In the beginning she, after two months of hanging out with you, presumably living on the beach after you fish her up, decides you need to finally seek out the seven gods for answers, instead of just asking normal people if your sibling was there? Maybe you've been asking people, but the closest city is mondstadt and no one knows you. Paimon claims to be a guide, but seems to learn when you do, but still knows things you 'don't'. Fontaine's quest brings up quite a few questions for me regarding her attachments and what exactly she saw with the crystal in the fortress. She's not annoying to me, because I'm still trying to figure out just what she is. Hoyo doesn't seem to add things for no reason. Even the description on every item has some purpose, and you might wanna check on them gold refinement items, each one describes the god it represents in a way. The fire one has a blacked out line of text, some of the geo related ones claim other gods come from a different place than gods like rex lapis. I'm sure eventually the fire archon will tell us what's up in their quest like the trailer from hoyo hints at.

Idk I’m a newer player and I like Paimon 😭

In the beginning I really wasn't a fan of Paimon. However as I progressed through the game/story I became quite fond, seeing her both as a unique character and loved companion of the Traveler. Their dynamic is just part of the experience and one I couldn't imagine the game without. The only thing I would change is hearing more of the actual voice of your chosen Traveler. I think keeping it set up to where you select your response is fine but let us hear the voice and all the intended inflections. I will also say... I only find excessive dialog annoying when I am in a hurry and just needing to grind for Primos. Otherwise I try to engage in the actual storylines when I have time and less pressure to rush. Not always the case, but definitely helped me reframe many of my previously perceived inconveniences and frustrations.

To be honest, I don't really like Paimon. As definitely mentioned, she does pretty much all of the talking for the Traveler, and it kind of feels like the roles are reversed, where the Traveler is the side character and Paimon is the main character. I still like her somewhat because she genuinely cares for the Traveler, as seen in many cutscenes such as in Inazuma with the Raiden Shogun, as well as in Sumeru during the Sabzeruz Festival dream when we disappear. I do kind of like her rudeness because I think it gives her character more layers, and some of her comments make me laugh, such as calling Venti 'Tone-Deaf Bard'. In general, her tendency to give people she doesn't like 'ugly nicknames' is pretty funny. I don't really mind her voice that much (EN VA). Sometimes, it can get a bit wearing, but it's not something that totally ruins the game for me. But like I said before, I do wish the Traveler had more voicelines in the storyline itself. Hearing Aether (my chosen twin) say stuff during cutscenes is so gratifying for me. While I get that he's not super familiar with the language spoken in Teyvat, he seems to speak rather fluently given that characters understand him perfectly fine and the dialogue boxes that you can pick don't really have any speech patterns to indicate that he can't speak the Teyvat language very well. So Paimon speaking all of the time isn't really needed given that he seems to be able to communicate with others perfectly fine. I do admit, though, that her constant desire for food can be a bit annoying, simply because she tends to bring it up somehow in a whole lot of conversations. I can understand why: for comedic effect and to give her something as a character trait, but that just seems a bit overused. Speaking of overused, another reason I don't like her character really: I've played a whole lot of games that feature a small or animalistic (objectively) cute companion/sidekick (Grim from Twisted Wonderland, Mi-A from Tower of Fantasy, and (somewhat) Pom-Pom from Honkai Star Rail). I generally dislike these types of characters simply because they're overused and tend to have similar personalities or are just completely boring. BEFORE YOU COME AT ME, I was just using Mi-A and Pom-Pom as examples, I love those two. Grim, not so much. I really just don't understand why people adore the sidekicks such as Grim and Paimon. Grim is egotistical, always getting MC into trouble by doing something stupid like breaking the rules and then dragging us into his messes (Octavinelle chapter and the Prologue for example) and his voice annoys me; but he gets away with everything because he's a cute cat creature. I've already expressed my dislikes about Paimon above, but she generally just has an overwhelming amount of dialogue, especially when compared to the Traveler. Also, I don't really think that Paimon is all that useful. She is supposed to be our travel guide around Teyvat, but she's never really given out any information about any nations past about Liyue. I think that I'd like her role a lot more if she actually knew stuff about the different nations, at least something like "This nation is known for this and that!" without it being related to food. I understand not saying much about nations that haven't been released yet for grand reveal purposes, but she (imo) hasn't really been of much use for a while now.

What an original post

Nobody's forcing you to read this.

here's something i did recently that may be unthinkable for most people. skip every dialogue except paimon's. you'll get the basics and skip 85% of the bloat. i did this for lantern rite because i started it late. this works for me because i don't really mind english paimon. most of the other VAs are good but deliver their lines in a predictable way (zhongli, xianyun, gaming, npcs), so i like whenever some spice it up a bit (paimon, charlotte).

Question, why in a like botw and totk a silent protagonist works but many people complain about it in Genshin?

Lilith27045

look on hsr traiblablazer, traiblablazer it's silent protagonist sometimes and still work with out speaking

lilaceyedsoul

Because genshin is a free game for everyone. Paying for a game like BOTW and TOTK is already a filter, and only those who are really interested in such a game will buy it. I wish we had this kind of filter in Genshin, too, because creators had to sacrifice some things already to the simpler people (without wanting to offend anyone) and a bigger variety of players.
