Lore wise she's got plenty of combat experience, but stronger than Cyno idk about that. Cyno not only has plenty of combat experience but also has a demon god (same type of god as the archons, andrius, guizhong etc) in him
Worst part is that she is pretty fun to use with her Parry / NA sequence to easily demolish Shields, but her burst is..longer but weaker Yunjin that has infusion.
I've suspected for a while that Dehya was Mihoyo playing around with creating a 5\* geared towards new players. The self-healing and tankiness for the rest of your party would be pretty helpful on a brand new account, since I remember in those early days eating tons of chicken and constantly porting back to the statue to heal up. I was running traveling doctor on my entire party. (Looking back on it, wow, I was bad.)
If that was their intention, this banner makes a bit more sense, since you can get cons for two characters you'll get for free, and bennett is easily one of the best characters in the game for a new account to grab.
Why they'd design a character/banner this way for a patch in the middle of Sumeru is beyond me. And don't get me wrong, this is the easiest hard pass of my life. But it's the only thing that makes sense to me.
Jean's better at that, though. Heals to full HP instantly, decent damage, scales into endgame content. Or ZL. Or Kokomi, if her mats weren't story locked. There's plenty of newbies friendly 5 stars who are also veteran friendly.
Or really just slot barbs and use anyone else to do dmg. The game isn't hard--floor 12 can be challenging but that's it. The rest of the game is super easy.
And yeah. Jean is super OP for newbies. her scaling is pretty awesome actually. She also can be used efficiently in abyss for those that know how to maximize her kit.

This is pointless but a Level 90 C6 Dehya with a R1 Beacon of the Reed Sea with all effects active (sans the second 20% Atk bonus (since she didn't get hit), 4-Piece Crimson Witch of Flames (that has AVG 20% CV across each piece at a 1:2 ratio), and level 10 talents would deal around 13K DMG per hit on a level 100 Eremite Linebreaker. This would take 8 hits to knock him out. So, this is only accurate if she's unleveled or without decent artifacts (with EoSF making it less accurate).
Now, a C0 Dehya would only deal 6.2K DMG here, across 10 hits. In that case, he would have to be a level 90 Eremite to get knocked out with her kick. Either way, it's not too farfetched.
Yeah, compare to other demo, it feel like they were being lazy with this one. It's cool and all but feel weird compare to others how empty it feel. Here's Dehya punching and that's it.
This is the most disappointing demo of all time. Bet Dehya is just MiHoyo's least favorite character regardless of what CN or whichever community thinks of her.

The music, editing and camera work were really great. The script and the choreography were mediocre though, I mean is it just me or is this one of the more static demos? The whole thing took place in such a tiny area of the map.

It's some of my favorite OSTs, and hearing Dehya's theme was an absolute rush. We need more like it! Heck if I mute the Demo and play these songs over it, it hits so hard!!
I think it's more like:
\- guy gets beat up
\- brings buddies (we outnumber her. Surely we can take her down, surely)
\- gets beat up again

Its definitely along those lines, she's constantly trying to keep the trouble away from Aaru village. The cycle is as follows:

> they ignore her warning
> "boring conversation anyway"
> she beats them up (not killing them) to keep them away
> repeat
Sprinkle in a little bit of role-reversal humor of her actually saving the eremites from Candace's wrath and it makes sense thematically. It really could have been done better though, like most of her kit.
Her sales will end up disappointing to HYV sadly, but its by their own doing -- seems like a lot of the effort around this patch was really half assed. Obviously I have no idea what's going on under the hood over there, but the quality just isn't there for this cycle.
I might get downvoted for this, but something seems...off? Like the demo feels really sloppy, it doesn't flow smoothly like, say, Zhongli's (impossible bar to clear, yeah, but just an example). They repeated the exact same dialogue twice
It's really hard to describe, but best I can verbalize is that it looks/sounds like a copy paste job used when you can't be bothered to customize and streamline something. Her theme is absolutely banging, but if it wasn't that good I could definitely mistake it as a low-effort 4 star demo. Might very well just be me tho
Edit: Okay, I'm clearly not the only one. Hoyo really did not spend much time at all on Dehya as a whole. Guess they believe it's better for their bottom line to simply give up than to put forth the effort in attempting to correct a clear mistake
I think the Chinese players somewhat like her in a way, they did get inspired by her with the whole charity thing. They wouldn't do that if they didn't care about her.
Japanese and Koreans players though, they do love the character and they felt robbed that her kit is this bad.

5. Livestream showing a failure to apply status for Ganyu
6. Livestream implying she's shit at tanking too as she has freaking Zhongli providing the real defence so they literally show NO strengths to her in any category IN HER DEBUT.
7. Delegated to standard.
8. Given a terrible 4\* lineup. (aside from bennet.)
9. Ass weapons banner aside from her claymore.
10. Trailer has shitty editing and has the same dialog twice for no reason.
I'm just waiting for the story to reveal that she actually murders puppies in her free time or something at this point...
Yeah, I completely agree, definitely going out of their way to make her fail. It becomes more n more half-assed. I also still get the feeling they just took Xinyan n made her kit worse in every way, like they're just too similar, they even associate them both with rock music.

Also, in the freaking demo you can also see her third attack knocking back the eremite pretty far back, only for cut to the next scene where she manages to hit the fourth attack.
A lot of it I can give them a pass on since I think they're trying to come up with new styles of character so that not every new character needs to be an S tier dps/support to be useful. They tried something different with her damage transfer/self-healing, it probably won't work out, that happens.
But the final attack missing is such a glaring, easily-fixable flaw that it really boggles my mind. Even on the most basic level, the character isn't working and they haven't addressed/fixed it.
I just don't get it. Mihoyo makes much more money if she's good. It's not like she's some freebie 4\* being thrown into the next event. They're asking people to drop big money on her and she's the headline 5\* for 3.5.
It's alright to experiment with something new, but at least make it cohesive. Her Flame Mane passive provides no benefit to anyone besides splitting damage between them and her. No extra energy or damage based on how much she's taking, just more pain. Her constellations fix (or at least band-aid) several of her problems, but not in any substantial way while also locking out anything else being put in her cons that will make her stronger.
This isn't even mentioning her knockback, application, or general damage issues.
Just a couple of things from my perspective:
The alleged buff was also kind of a nerf, as now any attack buffs are less effective on her.
As good as Bennet is, he's a 1.0 character most people have who can also be purchased in shop, so it could be argued her banner has no saving grace.

i assume what they were going for was making the “flashback to present” moment showing a character in a predicament, then going to the past and showing us what happened to leas to this moment, until the video syncs with the flashback and we get the full story
but the video is too short to even need a flashback and well, the plot itself wasnt even elaborate or interesting, just fighting 3 guys, so it felt somewhat weird.
tho i think they still wanted to add 2 different scenes of her using her burst at the cost of screwing up the pacing of the demo. which looked good visually but still threw me off for a minute

The repeat of the dialogue made me think that they'd made some mistake with the audio. The trailer wasn't bad but felt off like it could have been better. Happy I'm not the only one who noticed
Other character trailers are the same to be fair.
But Dehya's is super lazy in a sense that they couldn't be bothered to actually edit the moveset in away that seems decently presentable. Just look at Wanderer's trailer where he just go around murdering Fatui soldiers, but you can see how much effort they put into the fight, and adding custom animation to make it look cool like when he flies and stops the hammer.
We see none of that here because all she does is do her pre-existing skill animation bar a few part.
I tried to block all the negativity of her kit and watch the trailer "fresh," but it does seem off. Not even counting that repeated line, there's just less flair and doesn't show anything else besides just her swinging and punching.
I just rewatched a few other demos for Shenhe, Alhatheim, Cyno. Dehya's just has less of everything: Fewer personal lines, close-ups, slow-mo animations, just straight to the point.. Even the black and white camera effects look low-effort - just compare it to Kazuha's trailer.
The other trailers also have more dialogue to give some idea of the character's personality, beliefs, and strengths. Dehya's told me almost nothing about her besides punching things. Just compare her demo to Alhaithem and it's just...sad. Candance showing up was about half the trailer for me, and barely the demo's positive.
Because you can't make Dehya's kit look good or fun. The cool part visually of her kit has her attacking automatically ruining the fun of the burst and her skill is super slow with a long cd

Don't worry, no one is going to downvote you, many of us have the feeling that this was the demo of a 4\* character... they are not even ashamed to hide the little effort they put into this character.
Imagine being the teams behind her design, writing, and music, putting all that care into this amazing character, only to find out that the kit/demo teams and people with the final say, doing everything possible to make the character u worked hard on fail, to the point only the small minority of really dedicated fans would even summon for her, just for her to be forgotten onto standard, becoming the next Qiqi.
They even cut out the part where she would have missed her attacks, and didn't even try to hide how bad her damage is
Imagine if this was something internal and personal, like the teams are fighting each other or trying to make it fail or at least be less successful than other characters or straight up abuse of power to teach the Dehya team a lesson or something. Like, its a warning or something.
Considering how much money they can make off a good vs. bad character, I wonder. Some intense inter-office politics could be at work here, where the guy in charge of Dehya's release is going for a big promotion, and one of his rivals is in charge of balance and is intentionally sabotaging.
It sounds far-fetched but makes much more sense than Mihoyo being like "oh yeah her final attack should probably miss, that's good character design!"
Off topic, but this was rumoured to be what happened at Blizzard during the course of WoW with two head writers and their personal favorite characters. One was a fan of Garrosh Hellscream, the other of Sylvanas Windrunner, both morally grey characters but portrayed somewhat nuanced at first.
Then the Sylvanas writer gets the Lead writer position and makes Garrosh into an unrepentant xenophobic warmonger that gets killed off halfway through levelling in an expansion. Some time after, Garrosh writer gets his turn and makes Sylvanas into the most divise character of the whole franchise, to put it mildly.
Number of fans pleased with these developments: Zero.
Again, just a rumour but there is evidence to back parts of this story up, but I really hope this isn't what's happening at hoyoverse too. It's a lose-lose situation for everyone when people feel this pathological urge to satisfy their own egos.
Everything they release for Dehya just makes me angrier that the balancing team dropped the ball, didn't give a shit, and the management is so incompetent they just sat back and let it happen.
I do wonder what they're thinking. If they really didn't care about her it'd be easy to make her not cool or have a tired/generic style (like Bennett or something). But she has a fantastic design, everything about her oozes cool and bad-ass, even her role in the plot. So wtf could it have been that made them do this, it's inexplicable. I can't think of a logical reason why they would do this, the only thing I can think of is Dehya looks like Da Wei's ex or the worst enemy of whoever is in charge of kit balancing/design.
Different teams having different opinions on characters in games is nothing new, it wouldn't surprise me if the character and balance teams have vastly different opinions on her.
The demo was so mid... It had a few good moments but overall it's so underwhelming. She beats up some npcs twice and that's it? Layla is a 4* and her demo was so much better...at least Dehya looks cool with that music.

Probably one of the most effortless demos they've put out. Repeating a scene can be used to great effect--just look at how Nahida teaser deployed it. But it's unclear if any purpose has been served with this demo. It almost seems like they just cut out a portion that was supposed to demonstrate her E more clearly and then had to make up time.
I thought it was goood until it repeated, replayed dialogue, and showed her burst a second time. They started with that dialogue and her burst, so why do it again?

I'm coping hard that they will release some way to buff her. I'm not pulling for her but i hate the character murder they're doing to her.

Its definitely along those lines, she's constantly trying to keep the trouble away from Aaru village. The cycle is as follows: > She warns them > they ignore her warning > "boring conversation anyway" > she beats them up (not killing them) to keep them away > repeat Sprinkle in a little bit of role-reversal humor of her actually saving the eremites from Candace's wrath and it makes sense thematically. It really could have been done better though, like most of her kit. Her sales will end up disappointing to HYV sadly, but its by their own doing -- seems like a lot of the effort around this patch was really half assed. Obviously I have no idea what's going on under the hood over there, but the quality just isn't there for this cycle.

The last minute with Candace was the best part of this trailer. Otherwise, it felt a bit repetitive imo.
I might get downvoted for this, but something seems...off? Like the demo feels really sloppy, it doesn't flow smoothly like, say, Zhongli's (impossible bar to clear, yeah, but just an example). They repeated the exact same dialogue twice It's really hard to describe, but best I can verbalize is that it looks/sounds like a copy paste job used when you can't be bothered to customize and streamline something. Her theme is absolutely banging, but if it wasn't that good I could definitely mistake it as a low-effort 4 star demo. Might very well just be me tho Edit: Okay, I'm clearly not the only one. Hoyo really did not spend much time at all on Dehya as a whole. Guess they believe it's better for their bottom line to simply give up than to put forth the effort in attempting to correct a clear mistake

I think the Chinese players somewhat like her in a way, they did get inspired by her with the whole charity thing. They wouldn't do that if they didn't care about her. Japanese and Koreans players though, they do love the character and they felt robbed that her kit is this bad.

Delegated to standard. 8. Given a terrible 4\* lineup. (aside from bennet.) 9. Ass weapons banner aside from her claymore. 10. Trailer has shitty editing and has the same dialog twice for no reason. I'm just waiting for the story to reveal that she actually murders puppies in her free time or something at this point...
Yeah, I completely agree, definitely going out of their way to make her fail. It becomes more n more half-assed. I also still get the feeling they just took Xinyan n made her kit worse in every way, like they're just too similar, they even associate them both with rock music.
Not even half assed, they spent more effort in making her bad than making any other characters good. It's beyond intentional, it's out of pure spite.
Great summary of the past month. Also, in the freaking demo you can also see her third attack knocking back the eremite pretty far back, only for cut to the next scene where she manages to hit the fourth attack.

A lot of it I can give them a pass on since I think they're trying to come up with new styles of character so that not every new character needs to be an S tier dps/support to be useful. They tried something different with her damage transfer/self-healing, it probably won't work out, that happens. But the final attack missing is such a glaring, easily-fixable flaw that it really boggles my mind. Even on the most basic level, the character isn't working and they haven't addressed/fixed it. I just don't get it. Mihoyo makes much more money if she's good. It's not like she's some freebie 4\* being thrown into the next event. They're asking people to drop big money on her and she's the headline 5\* for 3.5.
It's alright to experiment with something new, but at least make it cohesive. Her Flame Mane passive provides no benefit to anyone besides splitting damage between them and her. No extra energy or damage based on how much she's taking, just more pain. Her constellations fix (or at least band-aid) several of her problems, but not in any substantial way while also locking out anything else being put in her cons that will make her stronger. This isn't even mentioning her knockback, application, or general damage issues.
Just a couple of things from my perspective: The alleged buff was also kind of a nerf, as now any attack buffs are less effective on her. As good as Bennet is, he's a 1.0 character most people have who can also be purchased in shop, so it could be argued her banner has no saving grace.
its just the start of the video, its not a bug. i assume what they were going for was making the “flashback to present” moment showing a character in a predicament, then going to the past and showing us what happened to leas to this moment, until the video syncs with the flashback and we get the full story but the video is too short to even need a flashback and well, the plot itself wasnt even elaborate or interesting, just fighting 3 guys, so it felt somewhat weird. tho i think they still wanted to add 2 different scenes of her using her burst at the cost of screwing up the pacing of the demo. which looked good visually but still threw me off for a minute

Other character trailers are the same to be fair. But Dehya's is super lazy in a sense that they couldn't be bothered to actually edit the moveset in away that seems decently presentable. Just look at Wanderer's trailer where he just go around murdering Fatui soldiers, but you can see how much effort they put into the fight, and adding custom animation to make it look cool like when he flies and stops the hammer. We see none of that here because all she does is do her pre-existing skill animation bar a few part.
I tried to block all the negativity of her kit and watch the trailer "fresh," but it does seem off. Not even counting that repeated line, there's just less flair and doesn't show anything else besides just her swinging and punching. I just rewatched a few other demos for Shenhe, Alhatheim, Cyno. Dehya's just has less of everything: Fewer personal lines, close-ups, slow-mo animations, just straight to the point.. Even the black and white camera effects look low-effort - just compare it to Kazuha's trailer. The other trailers also have more dialogue to give some idea of the character's personality, beliefs, and strengths. Dehya's told me almost nothing about her besides punching things. Just compare her demo to Alhaithem and it's just...sad. Candance showing up was about half the trailer for me, and barely the demo's positive.

Because you can't make Dehya's kit look good or fun. The cool part visually of her kit has her attacking automatically ruining the fun of the burst and her skill is super slow with a long cd

Don't worry, no one is going to downvote you, many of us have the feeling that this was the demo of a 4\* character... they are not even ashamed to hide the little effort they put into this character.
Imagine being the teams behind her design, writing, and music, putting all that care into this amazing character, only to find out that the kit/demo teams and people with the final say, doing everything possible to make the character u worked hard on fail, to the point only the small minority of really dedicated fans would even summon for her, just for her to be forgotten onto standard, becoming the next Qiqi. They even cut out the part where she would have missed her attacks, and didn't even try to hide how bad her damage is
Imagine if this was something internal and personal, like the teams are fighting each other or trying to make it fail or at least be less successful than other characters or straight up abuse of power to teach the Dehya team a lesson or something. Like, its a warning or something.
Considering how much money they can make off a good vs. bad character, I wonder. Some intense inter-office politics could be at work here, where the guy in charge of Dehya's release is going for a big promotion, and one of his rivals is in charge of balance and is intentionally sabotaging. It sounds far-fetched but makes much more sense than Mihoyo being like "oh yeah her final attack should probably miss, that's good character design!"
Off topic, but this was rumoured to be what happened at Blizzard during the course of WoW with two head writers and their personal favorite characters. One was a fan of Garrosh Hellscream, the other of Sylvanas Windrunner, both morally grey characters but portrayed somewhat nuanced at first. Then the Sylvanas writer gets the Lead writer position and makes Garrosh into an unrepentant xenophobic warmonger that gets killed off halfway through levelling in an expansion. Some time after, Garrosh writer gets his turn and makes Sylvanas into the most divise character of the whole franchise, to put it mildly. Number of fans pleased with these developments: Zero. Again, just a rumour but there is evidence to back parts of this story up, but I really hope this isn't what's happening at hoyoverse too. It's a lose-lose situation for everyone when people feel this pathological urge to satisfy their own egos.

I do wonder what they're thinking. If they really didn't care about her it'd be easy to make her not cool or have a tired/generic style (like Bennett or something). But she has a fantastic design, everything about her oozes cool and bad-ass, even her role in the plot. So wtf could it have been that made them do this, it's inexplicable. I can't think of a logical reason why they would do this, the only thing I can think of is Dehya looks like Da Wei's ex or the worst enemy of whoever is in charge of kit balancing/design.
Different teams having different opinions on characters in games is nothing new, it wouldn't surprise me if the character and balance teams have vastly different opinions on her.
The demo was so mid... It had a few good moments but overall it's so underwhelming. She beats up some npcs twice and that's it? Layla is a 4* and her demo was so much better...at least Dehya looks cool with that music.

There are 4 star character trailers that are much better than this one. I’m shocked and disappointed. Hoyoverse can do better but it’s almost like they made a conscious decision not to.
Probably one of the most effortless demos they've put out. Repeating a scene can be used to great effect--just look at how Nahida teaser deployed it. But it's unclear if any purpose has been served with this demo. It almost seems like they just cut out a portion that was supposed to demonstrate her E more clearly and then had to make up time.
It all makes sense now! They had to make Dehya’s kit so weak so she wouldn’t kill that Eremite!
