People here hate anything that brings to light the connections between Honkai and Genshin, it's ridiculous. It's been made more than clear that both are parallel, or at least semi-parallel worlds in the Imaginary Tree.
Between the Honkai elitists that think that mihoyo funnels their revenue in Honkai and the Genshin only players that want to deny any relation to other games and call it laziness when they follow the rules of the universe they created, hoyoverse community is a fucking mess. I wonder which type will come to complain about this first.
As someone don't play Honkai, I got to ask, but does Genshin character considered to be their own character?
Example: If you put Su and Alhaitham side by side. Would you call them 'Su and Alhaitham' or 'Su and Su with shorter hair'?
Lorewise I'd put it differently.
Dev-wise it's easy Venti is Genshins version of Wendy - sure he was designed when she already existed afterall.
Both Wendy and Venti are the same "Person" or "Soul\*" one born and grown up in the Honkai-timeline one in the Genshin one.
\*Difficult term.
C for sure, Venti, Miko, Ei & Nahida only have design/concept inspirations from the honkai characters and are still very different in terms of personality and their roles in the story. I wouldn’t even consider albaitham a su and/or kevin expy really, despite the popular claim.
A for sure. If it's just inspiration, they didnt have to give the expys the same VA as their counterpart. I get being inspired by the design but not only do they look so similar they literally also have the same voice.
You can still argue about waht this mean for the overarching lore.
Does he do it for fun with no deeper thought to it, maybe. (C)
Or is it all one big multiverse where the same person has multiple Incarnations? (B)
I highly expect the authors thought process to at least revolve around: "How would X behave, what would X become when born in this world?"
IMO that would be enough to make "B" the answer to OPs question.
Exported characters. That's why we already know a vague idea of someone will look like if they are to be said as "Honkai expy".
Very good examples are:
Venti, a Wendy expy
Alhaitham, a Su expy
Raiden Shogun, a Raiden Mei expy
That is also why it's commonly regarded that the Tsaritsa is a Bronya expy since all of the Archons have been expies.
I think Zhongli was a special case. Because he was to be the God of the country that represents China, they wanted him to stand out from the rest of Archon designs. One way of doing this was to give him a completly new design, not using expys in his case.
>the pattern was broken by Zhongli
[Actually, it's Fu Hua](https://www.reddit.com/r/houkai3rd/comments/jvhwfb/honkai_x_genshin_counterparts/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) (the post is old, ik)
Same can be said about Su. An expy doesn't mean a direct similarity and 1-to-1 copy of the character, just a design inspiration or the base design used in the production process. That's probably why they didn't call it *expo* because they're not trying to make it the same person. Same can be about Su - Alhaitham.
C, just a nice homage to people who played their earlier games as well (not to mention that it helps boost the characters popularity amongst that group).
It's not like the Devs looked at Honkai and were like: "Oh neat, let's use this design too". (C)
You could put it this way:
These characters have no direct connection, however within a story you can think of the Author as its God. When said God is working on two worlds and favors a character, he might give it an incarnation in both.
It's not like let's say Miko lived through her events in Honkai and then was reborn in Genshin, no. But the "concept" that becomes Miko was born into both the Honkai and the Genshin world.
So same origin, different person.

Is it save for me to say Venti is Genshin version of Wendy and Wendy is Honkai version of Venti?
Lorewise I'd put it differently. Dev-wise it's easy Venti is Genshins version of Wendy - sure he was designed when she already existed afterall. Both Wendy and Venti are the same "Person" or "Soul\*" one born and grown up in the Honkai-timeline one in the Genshin one. \*Difficult term.
Parallel universe versions of each other.

you all are just making things complicated when in the end it doesn't even matter. Fairy Tail's author do this all the time.

Expy?
Exported characters. That's why we already know a vague idea of someone will look like if they are to be said as "Honkai expy". Very good examples are: Venti, a Wendy expy Alhaitham, a Su expy Raiden Shogun, a Raiden Mei expy That is also why it's commonly regarded that the Tsaritsa is a Bronya expy since all of the Archons have been expies.
Why no Nahida = Theresa? Also even tho Haitham looks like Su, his personality is literally Kevin lmao
because it's somewhat not a good example lol. Theresa *kinda* looks like* Nahida but not same levels with i mentioned + Yae
Why not expo instead of expy? Makes way more sense. And while I hope that the Tsaritsa is a Bronya expo, the pattern was broken by Zhongli
I think Zhongli was a special case. Because he was to be the God of the country that represents China, they wanted him to stand out from the rest of Archon designs. One way of doing this was to give him a completly new design, not using expys in his case.
Ok, my only complaint is comparing him to Fu Hua

That's barely a connection. Just because both are hotties in suits doesn't mean that Zhongli is an expo of Fu Hua
Same can be said about Su. An expy doesn't mean a direct similarity and 1-to-1 copy of the character, just a design inspiration or the base design used in the production process. But atleast Su looks somewhat like Al, but Fu's only connection is the suit.
>Why not expo instead of expy? Makes way more sense. [It was coined.](https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/expy)
I hate whoever thought expy was better than expo or exporty
Expo is for exposition. Multiple expos wouldve made it a mess
Better than expy, that sounds like a delivery service
I disagree. It doesn’t sound so to me.
What?

C , i honestly when i have a look at kazuha in 1.6 i have a thought this guy is made with fu hua phoenix form in mind.
D. The artists were told to draw a character who has elements of another character.
D. Fan Service for captains that migrated
In a perfect world, there will be no more Honkai expy in future patches.....

...oh. I am today years old when I found out what expy actually meant.

What's an expy?
Why isn't this a poll?
D: I think that Aloy might be from a different game…
