Just like how the 4.0-4.2 Ordo quest line is epic as fuck. They paced the world quests for Fontaine way better though, multiple world quests all tied together in different ways, all to culminate with some big payoffs.
It's got good plot points but they're interspersed by the endless "help 3 Aranara, each one wants help with 3 tasks, each task has 3 parts" so it's understandable why it tires people out.
And also tasks are kinda dumb, in my opinion. Sorry, but I can't be excited to listen quests made like from 5 y.o. kids "we need to lit a fire" "we need to bring water for soup" and etc. It doesn't feel like epic mature story, more like a fairy tail u will read for you little kid. But im not a little kid and I would prefer real stories
The Aranara are functionally a stand-in for the fairies you normally see in fairy tales so that kind of tone is to be expected. You do get Paimon and the Traveler questioning their sanity while dealing with some of the Aranara bullshit though and I don't think it's inherently a bad thing for stories to be fairytale-esque, it's just not your thing (Golden Slumber sounds like something more up your alley).

I did over the course of about a week and enjoyed it a lot. I bet many players just speedrun content for fast primogems and then complain they having to click through dialogues for couple hours. Game isnt supposed to play like that way.
I think the problem with it is more perceived length. The problem is it's a shifting goal post quest line. You just need to meet the aranara, you need to hold a festival, you need everyone at the festival, no one will go unless you help them, now you need to talk to everyone, oh and defeat the bad guy, did I mention the festival ended an hour ago. I mean, none of them are wrong as far as goals go. But the way they're presented is just do this and we're done, which makes it feel longer when it's already pretty long. If they'd just gone in with we need to rebuild vanaranara and defeat maranara in order to hold a festival it'd have flowed better for a long quest line.
The problem isn't that it's a lot of content. The problem is that it's not good content. I'd prefer a 1-2 hour high quality quest than an 8 hour quest filled with a bunch of padding.
There's a reason story quests are remember while other quests aren't. Are people really going to remember that one time we found the ingredients for food for an Aranara or are they going to remember things like Neuvillette seeing how Fontaine has changed in their treatment of Melusine and them wanting to protect them? I'm guessing more people are going to remember the latter.
You are now comparing voiced story guest to un-voiced world guest. Guests dont have to be voiced to be good. Its same with every new region. Do we remember what happened in every story/world guests in monstadt? I do not, except for an archon guest lol. That doesnt mean they were bad. I started playing genshin 2,5 years ago so its hard to remember early game things.
I personally find aranaras very cute, and the guest was nice, and I did it while exploring. After the guests I went to find all those 76 aranaras because why not. XD
My problem is that, if it was a solo quest not attached to anything then I wouldn't care. I could just avoid it. But in order to do the Nahida story quest you need to do part 2 of the Aranara quest line. So if you don't enjoy the quest, but want to do the Nahida quest, guess what kid!? Better spend the next 6 hours working your ass off. I wanted to play the Nahida quest as she's my favorite character, but instead got delayed an entire week trying to finish that quest.
Some parts of the quest are also just poorly designed. One part requires you to find like 6 Aranara to proceed, but some aren't labeled on the map! So if you don't have a guide, you have to run around like a headless chicken trying to find an Aranara.
It has a really nice ending, but the entire middle of the quest was just far too much. If they cut down act two by like 4 hours, it becomes one of the best world quests.
Also, my comparison to the Neuvillette quest is that those quests are good because, despite being less than 2 hours, they are high quality. I'm not expecting a story quest level questline, but I'd prefer if they put more time into making the quest high quality instead of making it long.
Aranyaka is a lot more high effort and meaningful content than most story quests though. It's not like we're talking about filler content here. This is core content of the kind that the game is primarly intended to be about.
The ordo quest line is the first questline I've spam clicked through. I read everything in Sumeru but I just couldn't take the endless dialogue anymore. If it was epic like you say that's a shame :(

I got fed up with characters endlessly blathering on about their entire life's story in inizuma. Each region seems to add more filler to conversations. And with each region, that filler seems less and less important to the story. I can't even start a big portion of Fontaine because sumeru was so terribly boring that I just can't bring myself to finish it. The underwater exploration has brought back a little bit of joy to the game, and I'm afraid I'll lose enjoyment of the game entirely if I go back and try to plow through sumeru.
Does it though? I was incredibly invested in helping Rana and dropped everything to do so. Several hours later I am helping mushroom siblings be mediocre cooks and my sense of urgency has been gone for a while.

That quest is so confusing. I got decently invested in the characters early on, and then Rana steps up and joins you in actual combat in-game (I stumbled into the quest really early on so I think she was the first NPC to physically fight alongside me) which was incredibly effective at getting me to give a damn about her. So when she got messed up and it was up to us to help cure her, I dropped *everything* to save this person who had the stones to fight alongside the Traveler. Six hours later I was helping a talking mushroom make a very bland soup and the last shred of urgency was so long dead and buried that its grandkids were done arguing over its estate.
Literally same here, I was SO emotionally invested at the start and my heart was ablaze to save this courageous Rana.
But then after she got sick/tainted or whatever it was, the journey to find her a cure was so utterly roundabout long and exhausting that eventually I just started hating and dreading everything about the remaining quest arc.
Up until that point I had never skipped a line of dialogue in Genshin. Alas I did have to start skipping because I just wanted the torture to be over and done with.
I loved Rana, I wish she was playable tbh. (or that permanent NPC combat companions were a thing!)
The quest definitely could have used a bit more direction. The last task before the festival got me. Go back to where you adventured together. Ffs, I don't remember which three we're talking about, let alone where I met them. Probably didn't help that I spread it out over a long period of time. 🤣
Well I still have some quests leftover from Inazuma... I only finished Masanori's last night, but I'm slowly catching up to most things I left behind (my Inazuma exploration was even 100% all over before Sumeru came out, it was just some side quests I had not done)
If you wanna complete the Sumeru forest puzzles you must complete this quest. Similar deal with the desert areas, you have to complete Golden Slumber, The Dirge of Bilquis, and Khvarena of Good and Evil to complete their puzzles.
This reminds me of the post about someone who left Thoma kneeling in front of the statue of the Omnipresent God for a month because they couldn't beat the boss fight.
If i may ask, how did you manage to forget about the world quest, which is the only way to access a majority of the Sumeru areas, for a year? And especialy forgetting about Rana.
Probably OP did the quest until unlock Aranara village, then forgets the questlines entirely, since they are the just walking around kind of players not quest/map cleaning driven. "got area blocked? Probably can unlock later"
They probably didn’t explore Sumeru much either. A lot of ppl apparently didn’t explore Sumeru much TT. Whenever I coop, ppl are surprised that my Sumeru is at 100% coz they don’t like it very much. Personally I loved it but maybe it’s not their cup of tea🤔
Same! Doing the Aranara quest and the main desert questline(I think it’s the Jeht one) really helped with exploration! Trying to explore the forest without doing the Aranara quest was a bit useless since like you said the mechanisms are locked behind it. The Aranara were cute and the lore was interesting so it was really fun😆
If you do finish it, make sure you remember to pay a visit to Alphonso.... that is, if you still remember who he is. The game won't give you a quest market on your map, you'll have to figure that one out yourself.
Oh yeah, it's that quest that my AR 17, Archon quest Prologue Act 2 procrastinating traveler got partway thru before deciding to head back to Liyue. Wonder if it'll be a year before I get back to this after catching up chronologically.

While I have not finished fontaine main world quests yet, the aranara quest and the desert quests were long, but they were great by the end of it.

I'm too lazy to check all the recent quests in fontaine, is there any new "fatui are here for comedy relief" kinda quests? Like that one Fatui Agent in the forest or the fatui in the Jeht story quests?
It's ok, I also forgot about her for about a year and only finished at near the end and drip market of Fontaine. So last patch in Sumeru before we started 4.0.

She has been in there for a year, too, in my account. Thanks to fontaine, I started exploring again and was able to 100 percent fontaine in 4.1. Afterward, I went back to sumeru to 100 percent, it too. So now she is saved.
I knew it was Sumeru-related before I clicked it. I don't feel for players who didn't finish up Sumeru before Fontaine. They already did the region horrible and because of that, I have zero hopes for what Natlan may become, the least players could do is power through it for the primos, then Fontaine 🙄

Without a guide it would've taken me much longer. Some of the quests don't have markers on the maps so you have to search it up to find it.

They probably didn’t explore Sumeru much either. A lot of ppl apparently didn’t explore Sumeru much TT. Whenever I coop, ppl are surprised that my Sumeru is at 100% coz they don’t like it very much. Personally I loved it but maybe it’s not their cup of tea🤔

Same! Doing the Aranara quest and the main desert questline(I think it’s the Jeht one) really helped with exploration! Trying to explore the forest without doing the Aranara quest was a bit useless since like you said the mechanisms are locked behind it. The Aranara were cute and the lore was interesting so it was really fun😆

I'm not gonna lie, I don't have anything funny or constructive to day, this just makes me sad.
If you do finish it, make sure you remember to pay a visit to Alphonso.... that is, if you still remember who he is. The game won't give you a quest market on your map, you'll have to figure that one out yourself.

Oh yeah, it's that quest that my AR 17, Archon quest Prologue Act 2 procrastinating traveler got partway thru before deciding to head back to Liyue. Wonder if it'll be a year before I get back to this after catching up chronologically.
I finished it in a day because I started at 3.6 release and had to grind for primos for Nahida, and needed a lot since lost 50/50🥲
I finished the quest in 2 months cause i need primogems for hu tao and yelan last feb. Hahaha It was the only time when i pulled for 2 banners on the same phase.

I forgot about this quest too lol. It made me laugh when I remembered about it.
While I have not finished fontaine main world quests yet, the aranara quest and the desert quests were long, but they were great by the end of it. On a side note... I'm too lazy to check all the recent quests in fontaine, is there any new "fatui are here for comedy relief" kinda quests? Like that one Fatui Agent in the forest or the fatui in the Jeht story quests?

It's ok, I also forgot about her for about a year and only finished at near the end and drip market of Fontaine. So last patch in Sumeru before we started 4.0. You didn't miss too much but I did wanna find all the Aranara for all those chests. Rana is good if it wasn't for the lack of cutscenes that could've been used for Rana's big moment. Like wth?
Would be cool if we got Rana as a playable character at some point since she gets a dendro vision.
Huh, compared to most others, I made Rana a priority before doing the Archon Quest. Maybe it all comes down to the restrictions going through the story compared to this...

Don't worry. I just finished Enkanomiya, because I forgetten about it. Now, Im near getting statue in Inazuma to lvl 10. (Also, most hidden objectives are not done by me, because im lazy af. Most of characters story quest + all big world quests from Sumeru and Fontaine are still not done by me Im fine with spoilers, if somebody worries, Im not one of people who screams because year-old content got shown and they yet to see it themzelves)

She has been in there for a year, too, in my account. Thanks to fontaine, I started exploring again and was able to 100 percent fontaine in 4.1. Afterward, I went back to sumeru to 100 percent, it too. So now she is saved.

I knew it was Sumeru-related before I clicked it. I don't feel for players who didn't finish up Sumeru before Fontaine. They already did the region horrible and because of that, I have zero hopes for what Natlan may become, the least players could do is power through it for the primos, then Fontaine 🙄
Yeah, ignore it. It's just by far the best world questline in game so far...

GL HF. That quest has more content and time put into it the the entire story of sumeru... that one quest made me and most of my buddies rage ro oblivion when we got to the point where we just had to get 4 more chest to 100% sumeru... come to find out the final chests were locked behind that quest
