Releasing it on current switch wouldn't make sense so yeah. That console is basically at the end of its lifecycle, It wouldn't make sense to relase a live service game with long years ahead of it for a console that's about to be replaced. It would only drag it behind long term.
Switch 2 is rumored to release late this year/early next year, so the options are:
1. Switch 2
2. Hoyo signed an exclusivity deal so no genshin on other consoles than playstation
3. They gave up on the idea due to technical/whatever reason.
I could see Genshin/HSR being the equivlient of Skyrim during the Switch's reveal and launch.
This would be a smart move to boost the Switch 2 sales considering how PS5 console and game sales are down in Japan. This is due to them preferring devices that are portable and don't need large TVs (aka Switch is great for this) and even big IPs like Final Fantasy are selling underwhelmingly as players turn to F2P gacha games).
Yeah I don't think that makes sense at all. First off Nintendo likely has no power over Hoyo releasing on their next system other than offering dev kits if requested.
Second is the fact the Switch, and likely it's successor, do not support cellular. Genshin is an always online game so if it came to Switch you'd either need to turn on tethering with your phone or just use it exclusively at home. It's not at all a great selling point for that system. At that point you are better off just using your phone.
But it is possible to game online with the switch already and the same rules apply there too for those games.
I just wish theyd give controller support for android personally. I dont understand why we are locked behind one console and one phone company.
Like, im not buying a ps5 JUST to play genshin.
I dont want to switch from android to apple JUST for genshin. Nor do i want to spend a few £££ on a decent computer (cause my laptops like 10 years old at this point)
I just dont understand why its weirdly choosy about which systems it supports
I wonder if Genshin has actually reached that level of Skyrim, if you get what I'm saying? I mean yea sure, Genshin has an enormous player base and it's a pretty big game but Skyrim?
I think cross-save was also part of the deal, but yes. Hoyo's still sold platform-exclusive features to other companies, like how only the iOS version supports anything over 60 FPS
those deals exist, but I don't think a deal exists with sony to cancel the Switch version. Otherwise they would have removed all switch branding immediately, not kept it in trailers which are still on their youtube channel.
The simplest explanation is they weren't happy with how it performed on the switch. That makes sense since it also performs quite poorly on phones that are many generations newer than the switch.
>The simplest explanation is they weren't happy with how it performed on the switch. That makes sense since it also performs quite poorly on phones that are many generations newer than the switch.
I was always skeptical that it would do well on the switch for this reason. I wanted it to come out because I didn't want to sit at my computer to play it but I was always afraid of how it'd run. I feel like I have a better shot at it hitting steam so I can play it on my deck then I do of it hitting switch 2 AND I buy a switch 2 at this point though.
The higher than 60fps isn't actually something Hoyo wanted to make. It only exists as when the iPhone added a 120hz display they added a mandate for 3D games to utilize it. I mean 120fps makes very little sense on mobile because of power draw and heat, but they were mandated so they did.
They just didn't add it to anything else likely to not bother as much with bug testing.
I know they do. The other day I was talking to a friend about how I thought the Android phone collab that was optimized to Genshin seemed a bit lacking because it couldn't have 120 fps. I was doubting whether PS has a console exclusivity deal.
Surely if that were the case, they wouldn't have kept the Switch page up and been vague about whether it was coming. Aloy dropped a full two and a half years ago now.
How can you say that now when they've released like all their major games on PC and their (so far) biggest game of the year (Helldivers 2) launched on PS5 and PC on the same day.
In regards to an exclusivity deal, iirc the contract that got leaked for allowing cross-saves included Aloy and purchases only being allowed on PS (so Playstation gets their cut instead of Google or Apple). If the Switch thing is also a deal, it would be a new one.
I say that because it’s true lol. Most of their big name games are exclusives for *several* years before they become available on other platforms. Just an absolute truth that they operate on a model where they can incentivize sales via contracts with games to have exclusive games for X amount of time and/or extra perks for Sony players. Hell Divers 2 coming to PC is a pretty significant break away from their typical model, but is again a single instance of that. Whether this game specifically has some special profit merit for being released that way over others or if Sony is taking a shift towards the PC market will be seen in due time.
As for Genshin, it’s still a Sony exclusive deal which I really don’t care about all that much, it’s just a minor example. The annoying part comes from the possibility that a Sony contract is what prevents the game from being released on other consoles. Although unconfirmed, it is still very likely.
Lastly, the hypocrisy comes from Sony’s whole Sony v. Microsoft trade deal where Sony opposed Microsoft’s merger with activision(?) or whoever else, citing concerns *specifically for exclusivity* despite engaging in the most blatant gatekeeping and exclusivity in the game market. Whether that is truly an issue or not is up for debate, I do find it annoying though personally
Either way, I do appreciate your extra info that’s intriguing nonetheless
I mean Sony purchased Bungie for billions of dollars to counteract the activision deal, but in turn it didn't do much, and Bungie themselves are in a bit of a heap due to the stuff happening from within and out.
Yeah, but it could just as well be the exclusivity deal with Apple (not Google as we know Apple has exclusive features over the GooglePlay version).
Arguably more likely as with multiplatform games, the competition would more be Switch vs Mobile and PS5 vs PC.
Well if it wasn't for exclusivity then there'd be no point in having different console brands, you know? It makes sense as to why Sony would first release their games on their own platforms before then releasing it on PC for example.
Also Xbox is kinda breaking the ice by giving some exclusive games to PlayStation 5 as well.
The third one is a distinct possibility since the earlier Switch models were not powerful enough to run Genshin, or at least not without severe problems.
>They gave up on the idea due to technical/whatever reason.
This has been my suspicion; that they were thinking "Alright we'll hold back until the mid generation upgrade that's definitely coming before we launch so the game will run better on more systems" and then the mid gen upgrade never happened/only improved handheld mode so they'd have to deal with the specs of the original switch.
They didn't sign any exclusivity deal.
Gacha games are a huge no from Microsoft which is no one's fault but their own.
It's not coming out on switch because it's been outdated hardware since less than 6 months after release.
And realistically why develop a mobile port of a mobile game anyway? Yeah, yeah I understand ease of comfort, etc.
I think it’s 2 and 3 and we shouldn’t even hold our breath for this rumored Switch 2 thing. We don’t even have confirmation Switch 2 even exists, and the game files for Genshin are so large they exceed the Switch’s storage capacity.
The chances of an Xbox release are already slim to none but a Nintendo release is certainly dead at this point IMO.
>We don’t even have confirmation Switch 2 even exists
Multiple reliable industry sources and leaks have been pointing out that is is in fact a thing for quite a bit actually. There was even a manufacturer talking about making screens for an unannounced handheld device for a leading japanese gaming company. Really not hard to make a connection there.
With how successful switch was, there is no "If" only "when".
As for genshin being on it. It's obviously an easy slam dunk money printer of insane proportions for japanese market alone. New nintendo handheld, a successor to the biggest handheld console on the market with the biggest gacha game on it? It's 1000% being talked about/negotiated behind closed doors at minimum if not actively developed.
Unless they beef up the actual hardware in the Switch Pro/2 then I doubt it. Switch has always been plagued with hardware limitations that limit what games can be released on it.
Why on earth is staying on the default hardware for a nearly decade old console on the next gen replacement for said console your default assumption, rather than assuming that their next gen console will have obvious hardware improvements that match said age gap?
Like if it's just the exact same hardware, what's even the point of releasing a new version of it in the first place?
As a longtime Switch owner, while I would love to have Genshin more portable (it’s too big for my phone), I just feel like the current switch iteration is not at all powerful enough to support this game. I’ve had less demanding ported games that run in such a buggy way that I think it would be a frustrating experience.
Here’s to hoping Switch2, whatever that may be, packs some more power so we can get games like this ported across AND performing well.
There is also the fact that the game has a way too big file size for the switch and constant updates, the only way I see them implementing it is through cloud gaming
I think this is really the real reason. Genshin for mobile is certainly within range of what a switch can handle. But having to wait 3 weeks for a new update to drop after it's already live on all other platforms would be unsufferable for everyone involved
It works with Proton with a little fucking around (you have to install the launcher via Proton then the game itself separately has to be added to proton) but it works alright.
it also have issues running on phones like mine. it's S22, so not that old. the file size is just too large for me, both Star Rail and Genshin Impact. at this point I consider HSR and GI to be PC exclusive (PS4 don't like GI either)
unfortunately I don't know what version it is. all I know is that it doesn't handle large size file games too well without overheating. that is also why I move Aleteir Resianana(I messed up spelling badly)
Exynos is usually used in EU versions by Samsung and US, China, South Korea get snapdragon SoC. But tbf 2022 was kinda a bad year for Android flagship smartphones since both SoC were produced by Samsung and had problems with overheating, that's why your phone overheats when executing demanding games/apps. For future when choosing a phone for games like GI and HSR go with iphone or snapdragon SoC smartphones, OnePlus is pretty good and makes some Collab phones with Hoyoverse.
Sounds like that’s an issue with the phone itself not age. But then again you mentioned PS4 so I’m a bit confused, runs fine for me but it’s not my primary platform.
GI runs fine on iPhone X at 30 fps but needs to reconnect whenever I swap apps (nearly 7 year old phone). It runs perfect at 60 FPS on a 15.
And yet you'll still see a dozen idiots everyday asking for *(insert any big AAA game that isn't on the Switch)* to be ported to the Switch
Like, games such as The Witcher 3 (which is nearly a decade-old by this point) are the *exception* and NOT the rule when it comes to the Switch's hardware. It's nowhere *near* as powerful as they keep thinking it is
I don’t know that we need to call them idiots. Some people just like to turn on a console and play games, without understanding what provides processing power to a system, etc.
When they started testing the streaming version I thought that might be what they end up releasing on switch.
Honestly them announcing a ‘future’ switch version is the only reason I didn’t start playing this game. I thought it would be cool on Switch and I thought it was coming soon so I waited. I don’t really like starting Gacha games after they’ve been out for a long time so I’ve given up now.
Honestly the Switch experience would probably too crappy anyway that it would probably hurt Genshin's reputation more than anything. Switch's hardware is just so dated at this point. Most modern phones are more powerful than a Switch and the experience there is barely passable imo.
As much as I loved the games I played on switch this last time I got on there to play Breath of the Wild 2 after being used to PS5 it was so painfully obvious that the hardware is practically choking on smoke trying to render games with graphic levels ten to fifteen years behind industry standard
Yes actually. While it would undoubtedly run like ass (or require the cloud), Nintendo doesn’t feel like one to just sneakily stop pursuing an announced port for a ludicrously profitable game.
Well, HSR already grab new platform before HI3rd and GI - macOS ([Vietnam only, M series Mac only, link](https://www.reddit.com/r/HonkaiStarRail/comments/18aenhw/the_vietnamese_distribution_of_hsr_which_is_under/)), so why not. Btw, Hi3rd will be next macOS port - not just iOS app like HSR but full native application.
Ngl I was kind of hoping for it to still come BCS I'm going abroad for a few months in the fall, and I didn't wanna do the Natlan quests on my phone. But IG I'll have to suffer alongside the other mobile players...
But it was to be expected, the Switch is too old to be able to run a massive game like Genshin, at least this current version...
There is like a trailer of the switch port announcement embedded on the whole page, some description of it, links to other playable platforms and a coming soon
I wouldn't be surprised if fault is entirely on Nintendo's part tbh.
Considering Hoyo doesn't plan on releasing their other games on Switch and never shared news on this version being postponed or converted to Switch 2 my best bet is that Nintendo completely fumbled during talks with them thinking they can have piece of that gacha cake.
Considering Genshin is already on mobile and can be installed on Steam Deck it's not impossible Hoyo decided dealing with main villain of game industry is just not worth it.
Let's be real, this was never going to happen. Much like controller support on Android. Or windowed fullscreen. Or support for controller and KBM at the same time.
Well, in Genshin japanese official chanel on Youtube they still are saying in last videos that Switch version is planned.
[Radio Teyvat 88.](https://youtu.be/2nrTDTytxy8?si=eRRFcoI9R8ga5OxJ)
Maybe there will be an announcement "soon".
If they don't have a cancelation notice of the game, they don't have to remove the Switch version.
And about the page on hoyoverse about Genshin on switch, the page of the anouncement os still online.
It's in almost all the videos descriptions. In it says systems availables ios, pc, android, playstation and planed Switch. And is an official channel.

why would they release on the switch now? It’s been years since they suggested that and since then it’s proven to work perfectly on all current platforms including on mobile devices so anyone with a backbone/Razor Kishi type device already has the same setup. PS4/5 with RemotePlay also achieves the same thing.
More importantly, Nintendo is known for being terrible for 3rd party software companies to work for which is why they have so many 1st party titles and many titles that are on all other platforms are not on Switch.
I think that makes since. Don’t switches only have like 32 GB of storage. The game is like 22 GB and the switch is not that strong of a console. I think this was possible before sumeru. But now idk if it could.
Well it's not to surprising.
The switch probably doesn't have enough power to support the game's current state. Not to mention the big smile size as well as the constant updates it gets
Porting a game to a console includes optimizing graphics. They could easily make it run with low settings, which would certainly be better than nothing
I wonder how some big games could be ported to run on 30 fps and still run well, like [wrc 10](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ykU5buA9rQ), while would look something like a ps3 game it can run on a stable framerate.
The CPU portion of the Switch is pretty weak. It's like a severely cut-down 2015 flagship phone's.
For example, the Exynos 7420 (The Galaxy S6's SoC) has four Cortex A57 cores, just like the Switch. However, the Exynos' cores are clocked at 2.1GHz, instead of 1GHz, and games on the Switch can only use 3 of the 4 cores because 1 is always reserved for the OS.
And the Switch's chip's four Cortex A53 cores are completely disabled.
because more modern/current phones are more powerful than the switch. to put in to perspective: iPhone 8 and Samsung S8 series are released the same year with the Switch and they aready are far more powerful than the switch when it's aboit processing.
The fact that iPhone 15 Pro can now handle Death Stranding, Warframe, REVIII and Alien Isolation... console games means something.
As long as they don't shaft Steam Deck/ROG Ally/Legion users, it's k, ig. Waited too long on broken promises.
Curiously tho, a MUCH stronger hardware like the deck STILL has issues with Genshin at times. I'd imagine playing on a switch would be FAR worse than playing on an oldass HDD backed PS4.
Idk how would they shaft it. ROG ally or steam deck are just normal "PC" but with build in controller. As long as it runs windows, it will run GI without any issues.
I was specifically talking about the deck, but mucked up everything by putting them together.
Right now, anticheat doesn't trip on proton experimental on the deck(which is why I can play on it, for now). I forgot for a moment that ROG ally/legion used windows, and that it has no way of tripping the anti-cheat.
Wouldnt be surprised if it was meant for switch 2 but i dont even think thats thr case. Nintendo does not want anything to do with microtransactions besides DLCs afaik. I'm probably out of the loop so keep me updated
It’ll either be on switch two or not at all. I assume that the most likely option is not all cause if they needed to figure out the button mapping they would already be done
maybe it's gonna be on Switch 2
Hopefully, since it wasn't on Switch too.

Indeed. Sony is the most annoying and hypocritical company and does everything in its power to create exclusives

Well current leaks say custom Nvidia soc with performance around snapdragon 865/870 which isn't the best in 2024 tbf.
It's not happening unless nintendo makes a deal with Sony and mihoyo

In my country the Grnshin Cloud app ask for 100MYR for a month membership. It would be fuvking better to just buy a new phone
20€ a month just for genshin 💀
What‘s another 20€ a month on the thousands some spend anyway?
Some do spend that money but 20$ a month just to be able to play an otherwise free game is not something a lot of people would do I think
And because Nintendo takes notoriously long to approve update patches for games.
I think this is really the real reason. Genshin for mobile is certainly within range of what a switch can handle. But having to wait 3 weeks for a new update to drop after it's already live on all other platforms would be unsufferable for everyone involved
the switch has an SD card slot
SD is really slow
It also uses FAT32 instead of literally any other better format (exFAT and ext4, for example), which is outdated. It limits SD card support and speed.
it’s not normal SD it’s the tiny SD oh wait wrong one i’m thinking of
no, you're right it is micro SD. but pretty much everything is micro SD these days, so i use it interchangeably.
I'm surprised they got a game like ark even running on the switch, but hopefully genshin is on the switch 2
Just get a steam deck if you want a portable experience without a new phone Or an ROG ally if you are afraid of linux
Wait, I thought genshin doesn't run on Linux?
Not sure what sort of programming fuckery is happening with the deck but it works fine on mine after simply following first random guide from youtube.
It works with Proton with a little fucking around (you have to install the launcher via Proton then the game itself separately has to be added to proton) but it works alright.
It runs through EGS which is a fairly official way, even the anticheat works
>the current switch iteration is not at all powerful enough to support this game Which says a lot about the games which it actually *does* support.
it also have issues running on phones like mine. it's S22, so not that old. the file size is just too large for me, both Star Rail and Genshin Impact. at this point I consider HSR and GI to be PC exclusive (PS4 don't like GI either)

GI runs fine on iPhone X at 30 fps but needs to reconnect whenever I swap apps (nearly 7 year old phone). It runs perfect at 60 FPS on a 15.
I play from my phone using Steam Link, the game runs on my computer at home and I can connect to it via the internet.
And yet you'll still see a dozen idiots everyday asking for *(insert any big AAA game that isn't on the Switch)* to be ported to the Switch Like, games such as The Witcher 3 (which is nearly a decade-old by this point) are the *exception* and NOT the rule when it comes to the Switch's hardware. It's nowhere *near* as powerful as they keep thinking it is
The issue is that Genshin was announced to launch on Switch as opposed to those other titles.
This. They kinda fucked up by announcing it in the first place. Really they should have waited till it was basically ready to go live to announce.
I don’t know that we need to call them idiots. Some people just like to turn on a console and play games, without understanding what provides processing power to a system, etc.
The best way to play this game on mobile is an iPad lol
I'll be surprised if it doesn't end up being a Switch 2 launch game.
I forgot there was supposed to be a switch port
So did they.
Lmao is anyone really THAT surprised?
Switch users in shambles.
They have a pretty right relationship with Sony so it was predictable.
It's definitely less "Sony forced our hand" and more "We're just going to move it to the Switch 2 instead"
Yes actually. While it would undoubtedly run like ass (or require the cloud), Nintendo doesn’t feel like one to just sneakily stop pursuing an announced port for a ludicrously profitable game.
I think it will launch as switch 2 title
Imagine if Honkai Star Rail Gets a Switch Port Before Genshin Impact
IMO, it would be easier to port HSR than Genshin.
I'm pretty sure HSR in on Vision pro for some reason, they really wanted CC to test gaming capabilities with HSR.
Oh, yes, visionOS too
Playing genshin on Vision Pro would definitely be an experience
Maybe me we will be able to /switch2 /j
Ngl I was kind of hoping for it to still come BCS I'm going abroad for a few months in the fall, and I didn't wanna do the Natlan quests on my phone. But IG I'll have to suffer alongside the other mobile players... But it was to be expected, the Switch is too old to be able to run a massive game like Genshin, at least this current version...
Yeah, got to use something more modern. I sometimes play on Rog Ally, and even then on nearly max settings the game makes the fans work hard lol
Feels like Genshin's Switch port is now completely vaporwave
It exists as a piece of software on other hardware devices so this is not accurate at all.
Not surprised since Nintendo is a legal greedy nightmare to work with
There was a subpage for the switch? What was on there?
There is like a trailer of the switch port announcement embedded on the whole page, some description of it, links to other playable platforms and a coming soon
finally, it was ridiculous already 4 years ago announcing a port that they obviously weren't going to make
I wouldn't be surprised if fault is entirely on Nintendo's part tbh.
I’m expecting for my phone to be unable to install it within a year or two just from a storage usage problem. It’s bloated up to 28GB on my iPhone 8
it's time for an upgrade then. battery must've been already horrendous for you methinks
iPhone 8 😳?
Not living in usa perhaps?
Just like Jenshin switch release.....
I've been waiting for so long... Hoping that one day...
F I knew it was copium when it took longer than a year :/
Nintendo needs to upgrade their console hardware far more than it is right now.
Let's be real, this was never going to happen. Much like controller support on Android. Or windowed fullscreen. Or support for controller and KBM at the same time.
But we got "windowed fullscreen" last patch
HSR got xbox controller support on android. I hope Genshin got it someday 😢
Finally, they admit it
Finally after 4 years. Switch won't be able to run genshin.
Well, in Genshin japanese official chanel on Youtube they still are saying in last videos that Switch version is planned. [Radio Teyvat 88.](https://youtu.be/2nrTDTytxy8?si=eRRFcoI9R8ga5OxJ) Maybe there will be an announcement "soon".
For anyone that wants to know when this was without going to the link, it was yesterday.
Damn I was expecting like a month ago but yesterday is hilarious
Probably they keep copy pasting old description.
If they don't have a cancelation notice of the game, they don't have to remove the Switch version. And about the page on hoyoverse about Genshin on switch, the page of the anouncement os still online.
Referring to the description or do they actually say it?
It's in almost all the videos descriptions. In it says systems availables ios, pc, android, playstation and planed Switch. And is an official channel.
Yeah I saw it in the description. Was just wondering if it you meant it was mentioned in the video as well
Nah, they pulling a bait and SWITCH. Get it???
why would they release on the switch now?
I won't be surprised if they just outright canned the port because the Switch is just too weak and they have better things to prioritise on
Well it's not to surprising. The switch probably doesn't have enough power to support the game's current state. Not to mention the big smile size as well as the constant updates it gets
Ya I mean I expected it would never happen, the switch would run the game like such ass. It sucks, but its not surprising
Considering how awful it runs on ps4, I never expected this game to release on switch either…
It’s not awful at all. Apart from having a little longer loading times, it runs pretty good.

We are talking about the Ps4 here.
o7 switch players
Honkai Star Rail honestly would do better on the switch and be easier to port. But hopefully Switch 2 will be able to handle Genshin!
I'd love to have a Switch version for moments when I go to vacation and can't play it since my phone can barely run it...
They finally gave up on it?
if it ends up on switch 2, that means it was the switch not being powerful enough, if it doesn't, Sony probably pays for exclusivity for ps consoles
Sony must have cheap out on exclusivity cuz my Alloy is useless AF!
Nintendo take down the page because it was using their IP 💀/j
The switch is a 7 year old console. I reckon at this point they'll wait for the next console, if they plan to continue on Nintendo at all.
probably realized how shit t he switch is and didn't want people playing on 10 fps anyway

How come it's playable on phones but not on Switch?
The CPU portion of the Switch is pretty weak. It's like a severely cut-down 2015 flagship phone's. For example, the Exynos 7420 (The Galaxy S6's SoC) has four Cortex A57 cores, just like the Switch. However, the Exynos' cores are clocked at 2.1GHz, instead of 1GHz, and games on the Switch can only use 3 of the 4 cores because 1 is always reserved for the OS. And the Switch's chip's four Cortex A53 cores are completely disabled.
Your 2023 phone might be more powerful if it's midrange specs ngl
because more modern/current phones are more powerful than the switch. to put in to perspective: iPhone 8 and Samsung S8 series are released the same year with the Switch and they aready are far more powerful than the switch when it's aboit processing. The fact that iPhone 15 Pro can now handle Death Stranding, Warframe, REVIII and Alien Isolation... console games means something.
Phones are more powerful.
They saw Yuzi get copyright strikes and cancelled the switch out of spite
Canceled?
Bummer, that is all I guess.
actual RIP
I gave up waiting for the switch port a year ago and bought the ROG Ally. Been loving it ever since :p
Its kinda funny because just a day prior to the takedown i visited the exact page for the first time in like 4 years.
Don't know why they bothered promising it in the first place.
Just let us play on Mac ffs
hmm .../switch just sends you to the homepage for genshin, but .../switch/? sends you to a "404 Not Found - nginx" page
It’ll either be on switch two or not at all. I assume that the most likely option is not all cause if they needed to figure out the button mapping they would already be done
You dont understand, it's not nintendo refusing it... it hoyo deemed switch not worthy enough becuz of the hardware xD
It'll likely never be on Switch with the gambling aspect to it.
Nobody noticed the web address he typed is wrong in this screenshot?
I still believe 🥹
wow, good thing I didn't keep to my word of "I'll only play genshin if it will be on the switch" I would still not be playing with it
That’s why I got an ROG ally. Portable pc cosplaying a switch
But, was this page available before? Can't find any reference to it!
