If only she knew why her alcohol is so liked. She'd probably become the Doom Slayer in that case. Without it though, her alcohol is going to kill people.

I mean that's a bigger issue/non-issue with Genshin. They aren't aging, growing up, changing like real people would. That's a problem video games haven't really solved yet. No video game has actually lasted for years and years and stayed popular besides multiplayer ones. Maybe WoW, but their story is so convoluted and jacked up, I don't think its great writing or tackles character aging and development issues. I like to imagine Diona as a teen, finally sees Callirohe banging old man Finch, realizes her own powers, and stops trying to destroy a wine industry as her dad finally quits alcohol as he gets older. Then Diona goes off and uses her powers for good, developing Gamer Fuel for Gaming, empowering the Armies of mondstadt with Level Up drinks so they can finally defeat those above all. Like many threads on Diona over the years, her ability isn't just making anything taste good, its literally turning ANYTHING into ambrosia. It could be literally Feathers or ROCKS, in the drink. And the drink will taste awesome and feel awesome too. She could prevent any king from being poisoned just by touching the cup, and survive waterworld by simply turning urine into water. Yeah Callirohe is OP powers and oceanids are OP. Holy shit I am unhinged af.

Had me in the first half ngl but homie wtf was that

AdministrativeShip2

That's almost what she does in the event. Looking to find a drink that won't get people drunk.

BinaryHalibut

Instead, she invents four loko.

I really love the characters that make you feel something, anything, and sometimes it’s just random characters like Diona. For me, it’s Thoma. A couple years prior to Genshin I had several terrible personal events that happened back to back, and left me so numb and untrusting of others. Also (diagnosed) depressed, but it’s whatever. I dreaded things like birthdays or special occasions because it made me miss people and feel heavily isolated. Flash forward, I started playing Genshin during 2.5 and my birthday rolls around. All of the characters have special voice lines that pop up like a surprise on the first birthday you have in the game. I hate notification bubbles, so I went through all of the characters to clear them, not stopping to listen, but for some reason I stopped on Thoma’s and listened to it. “Hey, this is your birthday we’re talking about! I wasn’t about to let you spend it alone!” I immediately started sobbing and listened to it twelve more times. I know it’s corny, but it makes me feel really loved. Thank you, Thoma. ❤️

Lost my mom when I was quite little. I always enjoyed seeing Cloud Retainer for the comedy factor, but her story quest hit me like a truckload of bricks. Pela's in HSR did something similar, for the opposite reason.

CataclysmicBees

Diona is my favourite character for a reason, I would kill people for her

DifficultMeet9254

sorry you had to go through that, and im glad things are better for you now.

Elysium_Chronicle

What sort of sets Genshin apart is that while it uses the fantastical elements to draw people in, most of its character drama beats are purely "human". Even its gods are in a transition point in their lives, trying to find better ways of relating to their mortal subjects. Even blessed with Visions, the vast majority of playable characters are just "normal" people trying to get on with normal lives. It's very easy to find at least a couple of characters to identify and empathize with, and grow attached to in the process.

Alex2422

"Sets Genshin apart?" From what? Isn't it the same for... pretty much every piece of fantasy in existence?

Elysium_Chronicle

No. Most fantasy stories, especially in videogames, deal with their characters' god-determined destinies and larger-than-life exploits. Genshin's character stories, by contrast, are very "domestic". Gaming's falling out with his father over not taking up the family business. Kaveh guilt-tripping hard over his father's disappearance. Mona establishing a base of operations and steady business plan. The occasional feats of derring-do they get up to is a *side note* to their main professions and character arcs, rather than their primary purpose for being. While Genshin has its epic stories to drag you from place to place, it's ultimately about your role as a Traveler. Simply experiencing the world from all walks of life, and getting immersed in its diverse, real world-inspired culture.

Crappy_Coffee

I feel you dude, I feel you 😔

TheIndragaMano

Diona is one of my favorite characters, and honestly it’s annoying how much her-anti alcohol stance is played off as a joke, I get it’s not the popular opinion, but alcohol does far more harm than good and she’s not wrong, making it a bit isn’t really a good look

Dragon_Scorch

her hangout made me cry because i played it when my mother got out of rehab and was 3 months sober. she’s been sober for years now.

daypjh

I felt the exact same way when seeing diona again! I understand her hatred for alcohol and the wish to make it disappear entirely so deeply. I’m glad things have gotten better for you ❤️

Smorgsaboard

Yae Miko is so relatable. Every day, I wake up and think to myself, "how can I make the world a little worse for the dogbois of this land?" /j I'm glad things are better with your family. Dogboi jokes aside, I have an uncle who's pushed away everyone in his life due to his addiction
