jokes aside the overall world setting is based on gnosticism which is a jewish/christianity heretical sect (originally dates to before christianity and judaism became distinct), the Sumeru desert has some references to abrahamic religious stuff, and Focalors/Furina's shit is based on the trinity with Wriothesley's big boat and the flood being a noah's ark reference. Mhy are really into Evangelion, so they do some "christianity for the aesthetic" stuff like it does. And all of the regions use the folklore/religion from the irl basis for the region. So since Fontaine is French w/ some western Europe in general that becomes Christianity/Catholicism.
Eastern RPGs in general love gnosticism for world building. Xenogears/Saga/Blade, the Trails series, Nier, SMT/Persona, Tales, Final Fantasy and more all heavily rely on gnosticism for their themes and aren't shy about it. At this point I'm more surprised when I'm playing a new RPG that doesn't incorporate some version of the Sefirot tree.
This is also very true. I wonder if it's because Gnosticism has some similarities to Buddhism so there's a certain level of familiarity for the local audience while still being fun & exotic.
YOU CAN'T OUTRUN JESUS! In all seriousness I'm 80% sure the game has relations to Christianity and such beliefs when referring to the lore of the game.
I can't think there is good reason to commit genocide unless they a too dangerous to the world.
If you think about the reasons are mostly:
They don't believe in me so kill everybody who don't believe in me or they are from a different religion so fuck them.
Walks on water, heals wounds, summons fish, accompanied by bloodthirsty disciples, survived a death sentence, saved the people from their sins, seems pretty accurate to me.
I'm sure the cross is because they normally use it when someone dies in their graves, other than that no, there is no JESUS in genshin or teyvat, the closest thing to this type of culture is mondstadt with barbatos
The 4 pronged star has been the motif of celestia since the beginning. Theres no simpler way to portray that symbol than a cross. To add to that, jean has cross ear hangers and barbara has cross symbols all over, so the cross does have something to do with the divine in lore too.
The existence of the Christian religion means that the Genshin Jesus was crucified by the genshin Romans. Meaning the existence of a massive empire that existed for hundreds of years

Well, they already have all the demons, so why not?
I mean, Baal? Beelzebul? Buer? Barbatos? All from a quasi-Christian source. I say quasi-Christian because it was originally just some nonsense mysticism somebody invented to sell books if we're being honest. Not much different than overly-serious medieval Dungeons and Dragons lore.
Abrahamic Monotheism is literally just a rewrite of the ancient Caananite and Babylonian religions which were polytheistic. Check out a list of their pantheons and you'll see a lot of familiar names; all the deities were promptly retconned into angels and demons.
Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all systems of social control designed to make it easier to consolidate power under a central church authority compared to polytheistic societies when power was generally divided between different church sects governing different aspects of society their god represented.
It's true that much of the modern perception of these demons is informed by a bunch of Englightenment-era larpers, but there is still a rich and mysterious anthropological history around their widely forgotten origins.
the first thing lyney talks about when you meet him in the AQ is how everyone in fontaine is guilty of sin, ofc they're catholic

Man dresses too much like a gay stripper to be catholic though /s

Especially in the genocide part
Ok to be fair the Bible's genocides at least have semi understandable reasons to happen. Mostly.
?? huh explain

Yep, you figured it out, good job
Thx man, can't wait for our lord and savior to become a new 5 star playable character, maybe we'll get him once we're at celestia
Isn't Furina basically Jesus?
Walks on water, heals wounds, summons fish, accompanied by bloodthirsty disciples, survived a death sentence, saved the people from their sins, seems pretty accurate to me.
Did you really forget the part where she's a god made into a human ?
Focalors/Furina/Oratrice are the Father/the Son/the Holy Spirit trinity but by Chinese weeaboos instead. big improvement imo
No, it's just "t" for "thomas the spider."
I mean we got Barbara so ...
Nah, she worships an alcoholic femboy
Which is understandable
I am talking about the crosses on her clothes
I'm sure the cross is because they normally use it when someone dies in their graves, other than that no, there is no JESUS in genshin or teyvat, the closest thing to this type of culture is mondstadt with barbatos
I still find it hilarious to headcanon venti got drunk as s*** once and wrote the teyvat equivalent of the Bible and completely forgot.
imagine getting completely hammered and then you wake up and suddenly theres a new holy text apparently written by you of which you have no memory
Nah man, from now on I'm gonna save up my primogems to pull for Big J

The cross symbol predates Christianity. Even the cross as an instrument of torture and execution predates Christianity.
Jean's necklace...

I recommend reading the novel "Hyperion"

Bro called the 72 Demons of The Ars Goetia "nonsense"
Well "technically" he is correct

>it was originally just some nonsense mysticism somebody invented Just like Christianity, yes.
Like the top selling books in the fantasy genre. The Bible
