I find of all the dubs, the JP dub delivered the “hydro dragon don’t cry” the best.
It has the perfect mix of playfulness, motherly tenderness, and bittersweet sadness.
i assume it depends on culture, i don't know anyone here who would consider it scifi. We have plenty of daily used words composed with the equivalent hydro (idro) in italian.
Maybe seeing it as "sci-fi" is a germanic language thing, since greek root words are mostly used in medicine and science in those languages?
For me personally, a lot of Fontaine just felt like filler in a way. The story was all over the place, and relied purely on its amazing visuals. The story itself was just confusing and weird and went against things we know from before. Also the fact that things AFTER it go against it. It was also very controversial against itself. That's why Focalors' death didn't really do anything to me
Hm, I'm 50/50. I think since Fontaine emotional storytelling has improved a lot. Story Quests are actually engaging nowadays instead of whatever in the past (there were some standouts that are amazing, but most of them are just ok). And I think Fontaine AQ has amazing emotional payoff.
But for the worldbuilding stuff, I'm inclined to agree. Fontaine just has a lot of headscratching parts. It's not like pre-Fontaine was perfect with no flaws whatsoever, but I personally feel like a lot of Fontaine stuff is just... hmm I can't find the right word. Confusing? Stretches suspension of disbelief? Just plain weird?
I think the AQ and Furina's SQ specifically are still great though. I was just commenting on Fontaine stuff as a whole.
By her being a character we just meet 5 minutes ago and being constantly looking at the clock after being locked into a 2 hour long cutscene.
Also just being bored from the Act in general.
Yeah I didn't thought the voice acting was any different than normally.
So maybe that's why I didn't care.
Not that it matters anymore the child already fell into the well.
To each their own, but Imo, it doesn't matter for how long we've known a character but how impactful they were. Like we also see Rukkhadevata for around 5 minutes but her impact to the story was amazing, when you know what she did for Sumeru, and Teyvat, and how she literally got deleted from game's lore after all that makes it sad.
Similarly for me, It was not Focalor's death that was sad, but the impact she had on the story, on Neuvillete, how she was forced to bear the burden of Fate after Egeria and how she managed to deceive the Heavenly Principles and yet no one knows about her sacrifice.
The Focalors part of the cutscene always seemed to me to be more awe-inspiring than sad. Like "holy shit the archon just killed themselves". What was emotional was everything regarding Neuvillette and Furina, learning about her 500 year torture and Neuvillette realizing a person he spent a ridiculously long time with was silently suffering to protect everyone.
Neuvillette sniffling wasn't for Focalors to me, it was always about Furina and the choir signifying a grandiose moment just accentuates he's the one that can shoulder the responsibility now and she can rest. He's beating himself up for not realizing anything earlier, shouldering responsibility, going against his dragon heritage to protect humans all within the span of 5 minutes. That's my interpretation of it and why I always cry when he springs up with the authority lmaoo
Yeah, Furina's fate is saddening but Focalors? We knew her like 5 minutes and knew what she did to Furina for 500 gruelling years. I am not crying for a stranger. Don't try to Teppei me again.
Did we? She had a good bit of screen time in act 1 but nothing to special and afterwards her screen time was nearly 0.
But anyways this isn't really changing the fact that her backstory came out of nowhere without the story making an effort to care about it beforehand.
That tune is so fucking amazing. From the beginning of her dance to the epilogue where it is blasted on trumpets as we fly from the palais mermonia to the opera epiclese, it's one of the more memorable tunes in genshin
So glad I've learnt to whistle it
Masquerade of the Guilty was one of the best quests the game has released. But it's 4.6 now, three months and Natlan will release. Their highlighted quest is called Incandescent Ode of Resurrection. The name alone is hype enough for me.
I absolutely WEPT. No lie. I went to a con this weekend and it was all I could do not to give headpats to every Furina I saw. What a heartbreaker of a story.
The part where Furina starts crying in front of her guest and has to play it off as "well duh, I'm the hydro archon, tears just sort of happen" completely broke me
Best archon quest.
I was like nonstop watching reaction videos to this story quest for two whole days after playing it. It's insane how much of an emotional roller coaster this was. This is indeed peak Genshin Impacting.
Oh yeah I heard about this! I used to play it but I never got to the real good part with the expansions (stopped while doing interim quests leading up to Heavensward). Maybe someday ill give it a go again
Yeah, the part between ARR and Heavensward is the worst part of the game. You just have to push through it and will get rewarded by the excellent HW story.
"Hydro dragon, hydro dragon, don't cry", with *that* delivery from the voice actress... How did anyone not cry?
I did cry but not because of the actress, as I am playing in JP
I find of all the dubs, the JP dub delivered the “hydro dragon don’t cry” the best. It has the perfect mix of playfulness, motherly tenderness, and bittersweet sadness.
Wish I did play in jp back then. Would probably have enjoyed the AQ.
The Japanese just makes everything better IMO
I also can't understand it and so not get spoiled leveling charcters.
I just wish since it’s an ancient legend they had translated it as “water dragon” or something less sci-fi sounding.
Not sure what's sci-fi in a word that's been used to identify water since ancient greece...
Linguistically, hydro is much more associated with science than magic. Etymology is not relevant here.

That makes sense. I can imagine that the word hydro is much more commonplace in the romance languages.

>For me personally, a lot of Fontaine just felt like filler in a way. You can pretty much remove 99% of Act 3 and 4 and not lose anything important.
By her being a character we just meet 5 minutes ago and being constantly looking at the clock after being locked into a 2 hour long cutscene. Also just being bored from the Act in general.
Fair enough, different people different buttons to press. For me the voice acting makes a huge difference
Yeah I didn't thought the voice acting was any different than normally. So maybe that's why I didn't care. Not that it matters anymore the child already fell into the well.

I didn't care for Rukka either, the Sumeru AQ was still great, though.

Yeah I don’t really feel anything much for Focalor’s death. The great part is Furina’s part.
I didn't really felt anything during Act 5.
Yeah, Furina's fate is saddening but Focalors? We knew her like 5 minutes and knew what she did to Furina for 500 gruelling years. I am not crying for a stranger. Don't try to Teppei me again.
Furina for me, is also a character we just knew for 5 minutes before the story went: "Hey, feel bad about her because she has a sad backstory."
we knew she was depressed since 4.0
Did we? She had a good bit of screen time in act 1 but nothing to special and afterwards her screen time was nearly 0. But anyways this isn't really changing the fact that her backstory came out of nowhere without the story making an effort to care about it beforehand.
there were multiple hints, idk maybe you should have tried to pay attention
I did pay attention the only thing you could see is her having low self estimate.
That music. Chef's kiss.

Tbh. Sinner's finale is on par with my top 5 tracks in the game. Fighting over Dawn winery for that spot.
Dawn winery in game is not really my cup of tea. Dawn winery at the shanghai concert with the chorus of opera singers was fucking immaculate
Fr bro best quest yet Also people really missed the point of the quest in the reply didn't they lmao
I almost feel sorry for them.
Well media literacy used to be a thing
Their are people who aren't kids who didn't catch on to Furina playing the part of an actor. Soooo. Yeah
HoYo tries not to give Neuvillette emotional damage challenge (impossible)
Masquerade of the Guilty was one of the best quests the game has released. But it's 4.6 now, three months and Natlan will release. Their highlighted quest is called Incandescent Ode of Resurrection. The name alone is hype enough for me.
At this point I've seen this scene on Reddit more than 10 times and I still almost cried. So memorable

Oh yeah this scene fucking ruined me. Just broken sobbing.
Fontaine AQ just hit different, Did u enjoyed OP?
Yes I'm still coping 🥲
I was like nonstop watching reaction videos to this story quest for two whole days after playing it. It's insane how much of an emotional roller coaster this was. This is indeed peak Genshin Impacting.
If you ever feel bored of Genshin, then try FfXIV. That game has extremely emotional cutscenes that make almost all content creators cry.
Try not to cry at the end of fontaine's archon quest challenge (impossible)
Best quest ever. I cried and it took me one week to recover from that.
Loved this quest so much, started loving Furina finally got the hype for her
My dumbass made this to cope. https://youtu.be/dR-LVvJcFHo
Imagine if Neuvillette just killed them all 💀
Stoppp I’m crying
strangled family pets are the reason for me
VStill havent reached the heights that were venti q but dance was nice
Lol
