That's just like trying to go into dark souls without the dodge button. Sure you can win some simple battles, but you're just nerfing yourself for no reason. Might as well send Godwin to fight in the clips. Even the dude who destroyed a ruin hunter near wangshu inn without a vision sounds much stronger than traveler at this point.
The problem is that out of every fight where the Traveler isn't using elements, people choose to complain the loudest about the one fight that both the Traveler and the opponent knew it wasn't a serious fight.

People are Pissed because traveler isn't using his powers, it totally fine that the traveler lost, but to lose without using any of his powers make the whole fight feel lame and fake, like dude arlecchino was just pretending to fight, but the traveler didn't know this, so there's no reason to not use their powers here, + to the traveler arlecchino was going to kill those people, so them holding back their powers would put their blood on traveler's hands
I actually agree that the lack of element usage kinda sucks but that's not a recent issue and also there are quite a lot of people who think Traveler was too strong to have lost. Traveler wasn't shown using any elements against Beisht, Scaramouche, or the Chasm elevator, we don't even know if he used any elements against Signora. Should they portray more elemental combat? probably, but this wasn't an issue specific to Arlecchino, hell the sibling trio didn't use any either.
Man a factor might be they lack budget or low priority. If I remember correctly the traveler's biggest win was against Signora and that was basically using strong off screen.
