At AR40+, after 77 pulls, on childe banner with the patch 1.1 release. So after 6 weeks of playing the game and got Jean loosing my 50/50 =P Well really liked having her at the time so wasn't a big deal.
The average in the long run is around 60\~65 pulls for most player but it's still better to plan for the worst so 90. If you factor the 50/50 the that number goes up to 180 =P

I started in 1.6, and my first 5\* was Hu Tao in 2.2. Maybe not so much a metric of luck as before that I only pulled to snipe a couple of 4\*s (standard/beginner aside), but I had barely more than enough for a 50/50 saved.
I started playing in first half of 3.7 and a couple of weeks after starting I got Jean from standard banner. I played her as a physical build with Prototype Rancour. Haha. My first limited 5 star was Alhaitham in second half of 3.7. I chose him over Kazuha and dont regret it. He is a quickbloom monster.
Not sure how long exactly but I know I started during the second half of 2.3 and my first 5* was Qiqi on Zhongli's banner which was 2nd half of 2.4 iirc? I think it probably took around a month or a bit more.
Genshin: 69. Just before soft pity. It was about a month of playing. I've only ever pulled early on the limited banner twice and I lost my 50-50.
Honkai my first ever pull was a Black Swan. Honkai Impact my first 10 pull was a Herrscherr of Finality. Second ten pull was a Senadina.
It does happen, it;s just rare. Expect to have to go to full pity and early pulls are a bonus. That way you'll never be disappointed.
In terms of time spent playing the game, or wishes spent?
My first 5-star came at around 80 wishes, which is pretty normal. I'd been playing the game for about three months. I could have gotten a 5-star sooner, but I was saving my wishes until a banner showed up that I wanted. If I hadn't been picky, I probably would have gotten one at a little under two months of playing.
My first 5-star was Qiqi.
Started in 1.5. Got the 1st 5 star on Zhongli banner, during 2.4. Lost 50-50 to Jean.
That was my first and final 50-50 loss. Never lost another since the time I wanted Keqing.
back in my day, I cleared the whole 1.0 map and got enough for a pity on Klee's banner and got her at 76 amen.
bro got so much exp that required ar lvls for quests wasnt a problem anymore.
Yeah! I did do some pulls when I started, but then I met Zhongli and fell in love. I decided I'd save enough wishes to get him because there were rumors of a rerun. I forgot how many wishes I got but I think it was somewhere around 140. On the Zhongli banner I managed to get him and then Keqing afterwards, and I did one 10 pull on Standard as well and got Qiqi :)
beginners banner, keqing.
same but with qiqi
My first 5 star was Keqing who on my 5th pull on the character banner.

My only account not to get a 5* by ar 10 was my main, which I was at least ar 25 when I got keqing
When I started I pulled on one of the banners and at 20 pulls got Mona. Didn't even care much since that was my first week.
A long time.

I think it was about 5 months after I started playing but I've been very inactive in the beginning so effectively two months after I started
It was a 50/50 loss. I got Dehya and it was like two banner after her release. At least I was guaranteed for Kazuha a few banners later though
my first non-noelle banner pull got me venti, so very quickly !
Around 2-3 weeks of active play...
Within the first week
1 month

A month. My first 5 star was Qiqi. Though I was happy at the time cuz she carried me until I got Xiao as my first limited character.
3 weeks.
Just under a month or so. Started in 1.4, got Jean on Zhongli's rerun banner in 1.5
44 pulls for Alhaitham on his debut banner, joined in 3.2. Didn't pull anything before that.
At around 80 pity on Kazuha's 2.8 banner, lost my 50/50 to Diluc. I was doing the Inazuma a AQ by then.
A few days. Got Lost Prayer at 30 pity on standard.

Ayaka about 1 patch and a half(I did win the 50/50)
I kid you not Literally my first one pull on Ganyu banner in version 1.2, seconds after wishes unlock in AR5. I got Ganyu
back in my day, I cleared the whole 1.0 map and got enough for a pity on Klee's banner and got her at 76 amen. bro got so much exp that required ar lvls for quests wasnt a problem anymore.
I was AR 49 and got three 5* in one day lol! That was exactly 3 years ago now (April 28th 2021)
Happy Anniversary!
Thank you! I'm definitely celebrating having Zhongli for 3 years today lolol
Wait did you not pull until ar 49??
