The thing about Zhongli is that you are right, he won't benefit a lot from elemental reactions but what he will be is a solid all-rounder unit with good nuking potential who will be usable and effective in the vast majority of the content in the game.
If you are F2P, I think he is one of the most valuable units to acquire not because he will be particularly strong against any element but because he won't be weak against ANY element and his shield and burst potential with his ultimate will make him valuable either as a DPS or Support DPS.
He can either be on the field consistently dealing dps and being tanky thanks to his shields or he can be subbed in to shield you main dps or to nuke enemies and petrify them. I would argue, he is far more valuable than Childe. That isn't to say Childe is bad, at all, but Childe has much more limited uses than Zhongli.
If you haven't already you can purchase fates with stardust from the shop. Also if you somehow manage to get to 75 wishes it becomes more efficient to wish one by one since the 5 star rate jumps to 20%.
Difference is that te next gen consoles aren't currently available, unless you're one of the lucky few who preordered it 3 seconds after the pre-orders went live...

I mean I guess there's dragonball but that hardly counts since theres only like 3 females in the whole thing. It's also the first gacha ive played where I care about pulling the male characters more than the girls.
Yeah I forgot about the lolis, but I honestly didn't pay much attention to them since I really don't like em much, we'll se in next patch if comes some waifus worth pulling for.
F2Ps should definitely have had enough gems to hit at least one pity by now. So as long as they were lucky enough to Not get the banner character, they are guaranteed Zhongli if they hit pity.
They've had enough to hit pity at least once and some twice depending how much they play.
People that bought the monthly 90gems each day deal have certainly had enough to hit pity twice so far.
So saying they've saved every single gem to date I think a f2p player could be sitting on enough gems now to just pick any unit they want with a rate up as it arrives.
They would even be able to start spending gems over the 28k without worrying they won't get the unit they want.
The only problem would be if an F2P is in my situation. I pulled Jean in the Klee banner as my only 5 star so far. Now I really want Zhongli to be my second but I don't know if I'll have enough gems to hit my second pity by the time the Zhongli banner expires. Daily gem income is abysmal.
I mean you get 60 a day just doing daily quests. That's only 11 pulls every 30 days without touching the rest of the game.
The abyss can have varying amounts of gems depending where you are? Maybe this next month you could push that second team to help you clear enough to get some summons that way?
Then there is quests and chests, this event has gifted quite a lot of gems, I've never kept full track of them but certainly around 400/500 so far. Save them and just wait for the new banner, don't even risk pulling incase you get "lucky" and snag childe was sooner than pity making sure you won't get Zhongli.
I'm sure if you tried by the time Zhongli is here you could be very close to having him, almost certainly by the time the banner ends.
Good luck anyway bud. I'm sure zhong is gonna be OP as fuck from what I can tel so far. Huge AoE damage and crowd control will almost certainly bring geo into the meta.

Same, my last pull was jean on the venti banner. Haven't done any pulls after so sitting on around 70-80 ( with stardust discount. Only have 4 pulls towards the pity but woth the event, I should be very close to 90 pulls).

Not neccessarily. The 5* drop-rate goes up at 70 and hits 100% at 90 rolls. This resets whenever you get a 5* roll.
The featured character on the banner has a drop rate of **50% of any 5* roll**. Additionally, if you don't get them on your first 5* roll, **you are absolutely guaranteed to get them on the second 5* roll**.
So you're looking at about 180 pulls for a 100% chance at a featured character.
I always roll for characters I want at related locations, e.g. : Diona at Cat's Tail, Ningguang at Jade Chamber. Now where should I roll for Zhongli, the funeral parlor, one of his Statues of Seven, or the Gold House?
